For once, in a meaningful game, things went easy for us. We absolutely crushed Ball State 71-10. Just a romp of a game for us.

Thanks...it was a closer game than I would have liked. But have the group of 4 star, 3 star guys I have in the wings combined with the talent that is growing it will be a great next season. Now if I can only win the next game I do have to say, this game forced me to use depth as players were injured all game, several of them for the entire game.

Finally got my game in last night on the 3rd try. Two power outages killed the first two game attempts. One of them was as I scooped up a fumble and was about to tie the game!
I held off a good ISU team 34-31. An onside kick recovery with about 30 seconds to go sealed the win for me. But it looks like the tie-breakers are not working correctly. There are three teams tied at 6-1 in the MWC. I beat the other two teams, but am currently ranked 3rd.

GG kodos, you took me to the woodshed...Thanks for lightening up there at the end, my defense couldn't stop your offense and when my starting QB went down, the back up stunk. He isn't near as mobile and doesn't have the release the starter has.

GG, Macro. Your boys just weren't making many tackles with the first hit, so that created a lot of big runs for our backs. Then, you were stacking the box so much that I needed to do something to lighten it up a bit. Plus, playaction never works against the computer.

Had an epic game against Fresno State. We were down 38-17 at halftime, after they scored a TD with 6 seconds left. They got the opening kickoff of the second half, but I got a stop. I got to within 7, but threw a pick and they got a TD on the next play at the end of the 3rd quarter. I scored on my first play from scrimmage, got a stop, then tied the game on my next possession. Fresno State quickly regained the lead with a 77 yard run (their RB torched me for 302 yards), and I was able tie the game again. Fresno State moved the ball well, but I forced them to punt with a little over a minute to go. Their punter shanked it, and I took over on my 40. I drove down inside the 20, and kicked a field goal to win as time expired, 55-52.

Great game, Cartman. Your run D sounds a lot like mine. I got up on Tulsa early this week and the cpu essentially abandoned the run. That allowed me to coast to a rare, easy victory. But I've had a lot of weeks where I gave up 200+ yards rushing -- often to backs that weren't that great. Ability-wise, my defense is pretty weak, so I can't complain too much.

Playing on Boise State's blue turf was a new and interesting experience, but our starting RB didn't mind as he had a career game. 28 carries for 260 yards and a few TD's as we cruised to a 41-18 win.

Logjam at the top of the Big East. If Oregon State wins this week, they take the conference and move on up to the top. If they lose and the rest of us win, there will be 4 teams tied at 7-2, and I am 1-2 against the other 3. Should be an interesting tiebreak. Even if they win, there is a good chance 3 of us will be tied for #2, I'll be 1-1 against them, and we'll have to see how the chips fall.
If NC State and Ohio State both lose (unlikely given the opponents) and I beat Hawaii, I move up to the #2 conference, but not to the top.

I was able to download it last night. I clinched the MWC with a 61-28 beat down of Kentucky. The bowl projections have me in the Fiesta Bowl, even though I'm unranked.

Hawaii forgot the "run" part of their run&shoot offense. They put up yards, but not enough consistency to really threaten us much.

Game tied with 2 mins left in the first half and I have the ball AND I get the ball to open the 2nd half. So I'm feeling pretty good.
Cue up a STUPID interception that I should never have thrown for 6 the other way. Then, I fumble on the next drive and give up another TD 2 or 3 plays later. Dammit. I hit a couple of big passes and got one back before the half and scored again to open the 2nd half. I made a couple of adjustments to control the running game and the QB scrambling, and that seemed to work. I pulled out a 35-28 victory. I hate playing Colorado. No matter what team I am playing and how bad they are, I always struggle against them. Does anyone know what the tiebreakers are for conference finish? If Purdue beats Minnesota, which is likely, I will end up in either a 2-way or 3-way tie for 2nd with Mizzou and Colorado, both of whom I beat. I lost to Purdue, so if they lose this week, that turns into a 3- or 4-way tie. I think I should move up this season, but it is unclear at the moment. |

There's something screwy with the way EA does standings. IU and Ball State have the same record in conference, and we beat them head-to-head by a score of 71-10. Not to mention our overall record is superior. How in God's name are they ranked above us in the conference? |

On conference standings, I don't think the website is accurate, in-game does a better job I believe.
On Bowl matchups, #8 in the country, against unranked UConn. Sigh.

I went into the 4th Q down 14-3 and unable to get anything at all going. I went for it on 4th long with about 6 minutes left. My top receiver had a half-a-step on the DB, which usually means that the pass gets blocked; but, unbelieveably, the throw is perfect and I score a TD. The 2-point conversion was good and I found myself down by only 3.
The Buckeyes run it down my throat for the next 3.5 minutes. I hold them to a field goal and get the ball back with 2 minutes left but needing a TD. . For the first time in the game, I am able to put a drive together. It takes me about a minute to drive the ball inside the 10. Unfortunately, I score too quickly on a short pass play that hadn't worked the entire game. The extra point was good, and I had my first lead of the game at 18-17. Ohio State had a minute left and got the ball quickly to midfield. They're down to 1 time out, so they have to throw. The only good players on my defense are the CBs, and they came up big, knocking down a couple of passes. He goes for it all on 4th down, but the receiver is well covered. One kneel-down later, Duke finishes a great comeback victory to secure the AutoZone Liberty Bowl. For some reason I can't figure out, it doesn't make the top 10 all-time games on my list. |

Nice win, chesapeake. I was sweating in my game until I was able to make it 2 scores with just seconds left. I've been burned for big plays too many times to ever be comfortable with just a one score lead.

Thanks, and back at you.
I also get burned for big plays a lot, but 2/3rds or more of them are running plays. Ohio State's first TD in this game was a simple run up the middle where the RB broke 2-3 tackles and was in the clear. I gave up another big run on his last drive for a FG where my OLB and CB missed their tackles on an HB toss play to the right. Fortunately for me, the AI heavily favors the pass when it is behind. As long as I can keep a lid on the QB scrambling -- which I can't always do -- I am OK. |

We ended up third in our conference, so another year in the Big East for us.
We cruised to a victory over UConn in the Belk Bowl, they couldn't really move the ball at all against us. We are now 3-0 in Bowls, and that victory gave us our third straight double-digit win season. But the game doesn't seem to count most of the season victories (it's got all the Bowls) so we'll see if my coach prestige moves at all.

It was a great Fiesta Bowl game between Rice and Purdue. We went into halftime with a 21-7 lead, with one of the scores being a 99 yard TD pass on 3rd and 15. It is one of the uploaded highlights. In the second half, Purdue did a great job of keeping us contained, and cut the score to 21-14 in the 4th quarter. We moved the ball well when we got it back, but the drive stalled just past midfield. Purdue got the ball with about 3 minutes to go. They got a series of first downs and made it to my 35. With about a minute to go, my DB got an interception that put us in a great position to win. On 2nd and 5, we picked up 6 on a run, and that was it. Three straight kneel downs got us the BCS bowl win. We should end the season ranked, and hopefully give us some momentum to land some of the stud recruits in the late recruiting period.

Looking over the Awards list, Rice dominated the All-Americans. The All-American Defensive Line was all human, two Rice players and two USF players. One of those USF players, Chris Fitch, took home the Lombardi and Nagurski trophie. I haven't glanced closely at the rest of the Awards.
