The Impossible Dream (FM15)

CHALLENGE REQUIREMENTS
1.) Manager goes on holiday until November 6. Sir Alex Ferguson was hired at Manchester United on that day in 1986.
2.) The club taken over on Nov. 6 must be sitting next to bottom in the Premier League, as United was when SAF took over.
3.) Stay at this one club for the duration of the career.
4.) Aim to bring in primarily youth players. Build up through potential.
5.) A transfer limit of 8 players per year. SAF never brought in more than 8 players at one time while at United.
6. A spending limit per calendar year of £62 million. That was the most ever spent in a single season transfer budget by the boss.

GOALS
1.) Win a domestic cup within the first 4 years.
2.) Win the league title within the first 7 years.
3.) Win a league and cup double within the first 8 years.
4.) Win the league, a cup and Champions League treble within 13 years.

Let's holiday out and see where we end up!

RESULTS
2014-15: Premier League - 4th, Capital One Cup - N/A, FA Cup - 3rd Round

CRISIS AT LEICESTER?

With just ten matches gone in the 2014-15 English Premier League season, we have seen the first managerial sacrifice. Nigel Pearson, having been with the Leicester City since 2011 and finally getting them back over the hump and into the top flight has been sacked by Aiyawatt Srivaddhanaprabha and the Leicester board. They have cited poor results and resolve among players in the locker room have led to the disposal of Pearson.

Rather than naming Assistant Manager Craig Shakespeare to an interim role as manager, the board has moved quickly to sign managing novice Roger Berisha to the top post at King Power Stadium. Many fans around Leicester probably woke up this morning and looked at the paper wondering who their new manager is, exactly.

Roger Berisha is 37 years old and has been capped 87 times by Switzerland. He was an outstanding midfielder that spent the entirety of his career in France with Paris FC and eventually Racing Strasbourg. He scored 26 goals from midfield in international play with the Swiss and was always tipped for a move to one of the big European clubs, but much preferred plying his trade in France.

Berisha has no coaching chops that can be spoken of. This is his first managerial position at any level of competition. Why the Leicester board went from a manager with decades of experience to one with zero experience is a major question mark that has left supporters scratching their heads. The most confounding aspect of Pearson's sacking is that is only three points out of 14th. The season may be nearly a third gone, but Pearson was showing he can keep Leicester in the fight.

However, it seems that Leicester what guaranteed survival, though hiring an unknown quantity to do that is a rather interesting strategy. However, the chairman has stated heir confidence in the appointment of Berisha, positive that the Swiss manager will be a massive impact on the club and will help them fulfill their ambition of one day challenging for European places. Something they believed Pearson could not do.

It's only 10 matches into the season and Leicester were still very much in the fight for safety. Will Pearson's departure be a mistake or a shrewd decision? The only way to know for sure will be where the Foxes sit in the Premier League table at the beginning of May.

November 9, 2014
Premier League Match Day #11
Spurs and Kane Give Berisha Welcoming Loss
(20) Leicester City 1 – 3 Tottenham Hotspur (8)
Goals:
Foxes: Vardy (22) Spurs: Eriksen (15), Kane (50, 71)
Shots/On Target: Foxes 11/4, Spurs 15/6
Possession: Spurs 52%
Cautions: Foxes: De Laet (54) Spurs: Yedlin (32)
Man of the Match: Harry Kane 8.9

Form: Schmeichel 6.6, Simpson 6.0, Moore 6.6, Huth 6.5, De Laet 7.1, King (sub 58) 6.4, Drinkwater 6.3, Vardy 7.4, Knockaert 7.3, Kramaric 6.5, Schlupp (sub 58) 6.3, Cambiasso (on 58) 6.6, Ulloa (on 58) 6.4

Notes:
We never stood a chance. It looked good when Vardy equalized, his first of goal of the year, but after the break it was the Harry Kane show. Vardy and Knockaert were the clear bright spots on the team. The midfield and defense looked especially suspect here today. We would have liked an easier test to begin our foray with the Foxes, but we can only play the hand we've been dealt.

November 10, 2014
Kramaric Accused of Complacency
Some sections of the media are warning Leicester boss Roger Berisha that forward Andrej Kramaric has seemed increasingly complacent lately. Several commentators are asking whether Berisha has shown too much patience and should tell the player to improve his performances if he wants to keep his place in the team.

Hammond Injured
Central midfielder Dean Hammond suffered a bruised rib after a late tackle in the U21 game against Fulham today. He will be treated by our phyiso and will miss 7-10 days while being treated.

Premier League Match Day #12
Foxes Snag Berisha's First Win
(18) Newcastle 1 – 3 Leicester City (20)
Goals:
Newcastle: Ferrerya (8) Foxes: Drinkwater (32), Ulloa (72), Moore (81)
Shots/On Target: Newcastle 7/3, Foxes 21/11
Possession: Foxes 55%
Cautions: Newcastle: Tioté (45+2)
Man of the Match: Anthony Knockaert 9.0

Form: Schmeichel 7.3, Simpson 7.2, Moore 8.6, Huth 8.4, De Laet 7.3, Drinkwater 8.3, King 6.8, Knockaert 9.0, Schlupp 6.7, Vardy (sub 60) 6.2, Kramaric 7.6, Ulloa (on 60) 7.2

Notes:
Hugely improved performance. Having the international break gave us a week without matches. A huge improvement is shown and we climb to 17th with the win. Anthony Knockaert pulled all the strings in the attacking midfield with two superb assists. The back four was much stronger all the way through. A couple of role changes in midfield made Drinkwater and King that much better. Two weeks in and this might be the first sign of progress. Kramaric is playing well, but still has just one goal in 13 matches.

November 25, 2014
Premier League Team of the Week
GK Schmeichel (Foxes), DL Baines (Everton), DC Jagielka (Everton), DC Moore (Foxes), DR Rangel (Swans), ML Bolasie (Palace), MC Knockaert (Foxes), MC Amalfitano (West Ham), MR Puncheon (Palace), ST Rémy (Chelsea), Agüero (City)

November 27, 2014
Scouts Signed
The club has added Jimmy Hampson (13/17 JPA/JPP*), David Geddis (16/13) and Patrik Andersson (12/15) as club scouts.

JPA is Judge Player Ability, JPP is Judge Player Potential. Scale is 1-20.

November 29, 2014
U18 Group 1 South
Leicester 2 – 1 West Ham

Premier League Match Day #13
Foxes Win Again! Surging Up Table
(18) Leicester 2 – 0 Burnley (14)
Goals:
Foxes: Vardy (10), Moore (64)
Shots/On Target: Foxes 18/9, Burnley 12/5
Possession: Foxes 57%
Cautions: Foxes: Drinkwater (57) Burnley: Arfield (36), Keane (48)
Man of the Match: DC Liam Moore 8.1

Form: Schmeichel 6.8, Simpson 7.2, Moore 8.1, Huth 7.5, De Laet 7.3, King 7.9, Drinkwater 6.9, Knockaert 6.6, Vardy (inj 55), Schlupp 6.8, Kramaric 7.8, Quinn (on 55) 6.7

Notes:
Kramaric isn't scoring, but he continues to find ways to assist on goals for us. Once he starts banging them in we'll be really hard to stop. Another dominating performance on the ball. The club has found their footing and we're already above the relegation places. Vardy scores another goal and picks up a knock, but he isn't expected to miss any time. Liam Moore has been outstanding in the two wins at the back with goals in each game. Someone in each phase of the game is contributing right now. That's outstanding.

Premier League Match Day #14
Stoke Strike Lucky With Stoppage Penalty
(10) Stoke City 1 – 1 Leicester City (14)
Goals:
Stoke: Bojan (pen 90+4) Foxes: Schlupp (79)
Shots/On Target: Stoke 13/7, Foxes 12/9
Possession: Stoke 13/7
Cautions: Stoke: N'Zonzi (86) Foxes: Wasilewski (8), De Laet (43)
Man of the Match: DL Ritchie De Laet 8.7

Form: Schmeichel 6.7, Moore 6.5, Simpson (inj 66) 7.4, Wasilewski 6.9, De Laet 8.7, King 7.3, Quinn 6.7, Schlupp 7.0, Knockaert 6.5, Vardy (sub 61) 6.4, Kramaric 6.7, Morgan (on 66) 6.5, Ulloa (on 61) 6.4

Notes: Heartbreaking. We thought we had all three points and another clean sheet until Wasilewski gave away a penalty deep into stoppage time. Other than that misstep, there were plenty of positives in our play once again. Resolute at the back, sometimes adventurous going forward. We drop a place in the table, but we're not disheartened by this result.

Suspension News
Ritchie De Laet has picked up an automatic one match suspension after collecting his fifth yellow card of the season.

December 4, 2014
Ulloa Wants Out?
Reports are emanating out of King Power Stadium that forward Leonardo Ulloa is unhappy at his lack of playing time and could be looking to agitate a move away from a team he just joined this summer. He's made 11 appearances, but only one start. With Roger Berisha's tendency to favor Andrej Kramaric, Ulloa has been used exclusively as a sub.

Injury News
Danny Drinkwater sustained a bruised thigh after a challenge in training. He'll miss 8-11 days.

December 5, 2014
Mahrez Returns
Winger Riyad Mahrez has returned to full training after missing two months with a hip injury.

Premier League Match Day #15
Tigers Claw Back to Steal Point From Foxes
(9) Hull City 2– 2 Leicester City (15)
Goals:
Hull: Brady (19), Hernández (83) Foxes: Vardy (11), Wood (55)
Shots/On Target: Hull 18/12, Foxes 13/6
Possession: Foxes 55%
Cautions: Hull: Brady (90+2) Foxes: Huth (15)
Man of the Match: WBL Robbie Brady 8.7

Form: Schmeichel 7.0, Simpson 6.8, Moore 6.6, Huth 7.1, Schlupp 6.6, Knockaert (sub 62) 6.5, King 6.8, Vardy 7.1, Kramaric 6.5, Wood 7.8, Cambiasso (on 62) 6.6

Notes: We didn't deserve this one. Kramaric struggled on the left and Knockaert was bad in the middle so our attack never really meshed and worked together. A draw was the likeliest result at that point and here we are.

December 9, 2014
Premier League Team of the Week
GK Given (Liverpool), DL De Laet (Foxes), DC Hangeland (Palace), DC Savic (Liverpool), DR Azpilicueta (Chelsea), ML Sterling (Liverpool), MC Dembélé (Spurs), MC Barton (QPR), MR Zaha (Palace), ST Sturridge (Liverpool), ST Borini (Liverpool)

December 13, 2014
Premier League Match Day #16
Foxes Slyly Sneak Up on Palace
(14) Leicester City 2 – 0 Crystal Palace (13)
Goals:
Foxes: Knockaert (4), King (35)
Shots/On Target: Foxes 15/5, Palace 8/3
Possession: Foxes 57%
Cautions: Foxes: Quinn (46) Palace: Jedinak (15), Mutch (66)
Man of the Match: MC Andy King 9.0

Form: Schmeichel 7.1, De Laet 7.2, Moore 7.0, Huth (sub 71) 6.9, Schlupp 7.7, King 9.0, Quinn (sub 71) 6.6, Vardy 6.6, Knockaert 7.4, Mahrez 7.0, Kramaric (sub 71) 6.8, Morgan (on 71) 6.7, Ulloa (on 71) 6.6, James (on 71) 6.6

Notes:
A very solid win and we're now four points clear of the drop and sitting snugly in 13th at the moment. We're just two points out of 10th! Heady days for Leicester City since the grim start to the campaign. Andy King was excellent throughout and was our best player today, Schlupp was also very strong. We run the rule on possession here as well. We are now unbeaten in five matches.

Upson Returns
DC Matthew Upson has begun full training following his broken ankle.

December 14, 2014
James Concerned About Playing Time
MC Matty James is concerned about his lack of playing time after coming off of a two month injury. Curious. I tell him I'll try and arrange a transfer.

Premier League Match Day #17
Kramaric, 10-Men Foxes Blow Baggies Around
(15) West Brom 2 – 4 Leicester (14)
Goals:
West Brom: Sessegnon (26, 51) Foxes: Huth (20), Schlupp (28), Kramaric (pen 64, 82)
Shots/On Target: West Brom 14/7, Foxes 17/11
Possession: Foxes 53%
Cautions: West Brom: Baird (63), Mulumbu (88) Foxes: Drinkwater (22), De Laet (red 54), Huth (58)
Man of the Match: AMC Stephane Sessegnon 8.8

Form: Schmeichel 6.8, Simpson 7.0, Moore 7.2, Huth 8.3, Vardy (sub 54), King 6.8, Drinkwater 8.7, Knockaert 7.4, De Laet (red 54) 5.7, Schlupp 8.3, Kramaric 8.6, Morgan (on 54) 6.9

Notes:
Drinkwater was a magician in midfield, pulling the strings and Foxes out of hats for two assists. Schlupp has grown increasingly comfortable with the advanced left wing role and is improving all the time. Kramaric finally breaks his goose since I've taken over the club and converts a nice penalty and another effort late on to seal the win. Kramaric had gone 18 matches without a goal. This was his 19th for the club. Despite having ten men, we bullied West Brom around the park. Excellent win as we move into a difficult holiday period.

Suspension News
DL Ritchie De Laet has been suspended for two matches following his red card and sending off against West Brom.

DC Robert Huth has picked up an automatic one match suspension after collecting his fifth yellow card.

Possession: Liverpool 56%
Cautions: Leicester: Moore (10, Knockaert (24), Schlupp (26), Quinn (47), Morgan (85)
Man of the Match: AMC Raheem Sterling 8.6

Form: Schmeichel 6.7, Simpson 6.7, Moore 6.5, Morgan 6.3, Schlupp 6.5, King 6.5, Quinn 6.7, Vardy 6.7, Knockaert 6.3, Mahrez 6.4, Kramaric 6.6

Notes:
Second best throughout. We had some bright spots early on and again when they were in cruise control, but we couldn't even get a consolation goal. Poor performance all around. Liverpool reminds us how far we have to go to be elite.

December 28, 2014
Premier League Match Day #19

(4) Manchester City 3 – 3 Leicester City (13)
Goals:
City: Milner (22), Agüero (30), Jovetic (63) Foxes: Huth (33), Wood (53, 85)
Shots/On Target: City 14/12Foxes 14/8
Possession: City 51%
Cautions: City: Bony (16), Clichy (74) Foxes: Moore (11), Huth (42), Vardy (65)
Man of the Match: ST Chris Wood 8.8

Notes:
An excellent point. Wood plays wonderfully as a fill-in for tired legs with a brace. He's got as many goals as Kramaric in much less time.

Notes:
Hard fought, but a loss to a very strong Chelsea side. We can hold our heads up here. No shame in losing to one of the best teams in the league in their home. Stamford Bridge is an intimidating place. We've been in charge of 9 matches and are fairly safe in the table, 7 points ahead of Newcastle in 18th. We are solidly in mid-table.

Shots/On Target: Foxes 27/14, Watford 6/3
Possession: Foxes 56%
Cautions: Foxes: Simpson (50) Watford: Paredes (56)
Man of the Match: ST Ekstrand 7.2

Notes:
Very unhappy with this result. The boys got the hairdryer treatment after this one. No excuse for losing to a side in the division below us. We're out of a competition we could have made some extra money on. Dominated play, but poor in the final third. Fourteen shots on target without a goal is absurd and unacceptable. Two straight losses to start 2015.

Man of the Match: AMC Jack Wilshere 8.3

Notes:
An awful draw. We had this won with 10 minutes to go and concede two goals in a four minute span. Unacceptable. We'll never go anywhere if we can't close out games against big opponents. Lost opportunity here. That should have been three in the bag. I would have taken a draw if offered before the match, but I would not have dreamed being two up with 10 minutes left.

Notes:
Back on track. It was hairy for a while, but van Anhalt's sending off clinched it for us. The win vaults us to 12th in the league. Kramaric has found his form, even if it is resulting in goals from penalties. He'll take them, so will we. King and Drinkwater have steadied out in midfield. Solid, dependable play every match.

Very good win over a top half team. Hammers had more quality shots, which is disappointing, but we managed a c lean sheet. Simpson was outstanding going forward and at the back. He has blossomed under us

Notes:
Absolutely fantastic result. Kramaric was in the best form we've seen from him since my arrival. Drinkwater was the only outfield performance rating under an 8 and he was a tick below. This was a perfect performance. Everyone at the club should be proud of this victory. We're firmly inside the top 10 now.

Notes:
A great clean sheet against a top five team. We worked well over the last quarter of the match to buckle down at the back and close it out. Excellent work. It's clear we'll need to upgrade at AMC in the summer. Knockaert at least needs some competition for his place.

Notes:
A win over a bottom three club, as we should expect. Kramaric scores again and has become a real force after taking a few matches to find his form under me. We've played like a top half club in recent weeks and our form is deserved with our position and at the moment just 3 points out of 7th. We've achieved what we set out to this year. All we can do is hope to improve bit by bit.

Notes:
We move into 8th over Spurs. What a ride. We're just three points out of a possible Europa League place. The back four was excellent, Schwarzer gets another clean sheet and we beat Spurs, the team that beat us on my debut. Beautiful day at White Hart Lane.

Notes:
A win on penalties is a win either way. Another three points. We have secured safety and surpassed the expectations of the board as we now sit SIXTH in the table. This is a club that was next to last on November 6th. I have not brought in a single player of my own to this stage. This is with the exact team that was here when Pearson was fired and I was hired. We have now won six straight matches, five of them clean sheets.

Notes:
Kramaric now has 20 goals on the year. That's 19 goals since November 6. Bojan's extremely unfortunate own goal happened on a corner with the goal on the Stoke line. He and another player went to clear and unfortunately for Bojan his clearance went the wrong way. Either way, it's a big win as we stay in the running for a European spot.

Notes:
Another excellent defensive performance and we now sit just ONE point out of fourth and a Champions League bid. Unbelievable. Andrej Kramaric now has 22 goals, Riyad Mahrez has close to 20 assists. The pair have been unbelievable as well. We're on a fantastic run with four matches left. Two of them are against Manchester City and Liverpool though...

YES! Away to next to last in the table could have been a trap game, but an unlikely starter in Stephen Quinn and sub-forward Chris Wood score the goals that keep us going. Big win, even if the performance was less than desirable. In the battle for fourth, Everton holds steady, beating Sunderland 3-2.

Well, I'm at work and can't stop thinking about how I'm going to proceed with the club.

I'd like to assume as we get to select our potential league finish for 2015-16, we'll be rewarded with a larger budget for £6.22M. Odds are that I was too good this season and the club will suffer through the new year with the number of games having to be played in the league and Champions League.

We're going to lose a number of players on the roster, most of them are depth or unneeded. Losing Cambiasso's £42K per week salary will be a huge boon.

We need in order: A DC to replace Huth, a DL to start. De Laet is not long-term starting caliber. An AMC to push or replace Knockaert and an AML to push or replace Schlupp. I like Schlupp a lot, but he's much better suited to a ML role, rather than an advanced one.

June 14, 2015
LEICESTER LOAN ATSU
Chelsea AML Christian Atsu has agreed to a season long loan with Leicester City. Atsu immediately becomes our best left winger. This allows Schlupp to play backup at left wing and left back. We'll be able to better use his versatility because of Christian Atsu.

Going to play Januzaj primarily at AMC? Everytime I've had him I usually have a boss AMC ahead of him and I play him everywhere, but would be fun to see him have an extended run at his natural position.

Notes:
A draw with Chelsea is a good result. However, a potential Andrej Kramaric injury is a nightmare. Mahrez was as good as Kramaric, providing both assists, yes, he was taken down for a penalty, so he gets assist credit. Anyway, a good start, all pending the injury...

Possession: Porto 54%

Notes:
Fantastic result. We went down early, but responded magnificently. Marcos Alonso was the star on the day, assisting on both goals. Januzaj scores his first for the club and Kramaric does what he does. Kasunic looked a bit lost on his debut, but it was against a very, very strong Porto side.

Wigan Athletic 1 – 4 Leicester City
Goals:

Shots/On Target: Wigan 12/6, Foxes 14/6
Possession: Foxes 53%

Notes:
We started out slow and when McClean scored the first goal, I got a little worried. However, three goals in a ten minute span for us put the match beyond doubt. Mahrez added an assist to his brace. Kramaric had an assist as well. Giorgi Vock, our prized signing from Grasshoppers added an assist on his debut. For a 16 year-old boy, he looked like a man on the pitch today. Strong result leading into our second leg with Porto.

Possession: Foxes 52%
Cautions: Porto: Maicon (10)
Man of the Match: DM Ruben Neves 8.4

Form: Schmeichel 6.6, De Laet 7.1, Reid (inj 10) –, Moore 7.3, Alonso 6.9, King 6.8, James (sub 72) 6.6, Vardy 8.0, Januzaj 6.9, Schlupp (sub 72) 6.5, Kramaric 6.7, Kalas (on 10) 6.4, Kasunic (on 72) 6.9, Drinkwater (on 72) 6.7

Notes:
We're through! Not a great match for us, but Vardy's late equalizer sealed the advancement of our team. The downside is a potential injury to Winston Reid who had to leave early. Moore played well at the back and Kasunic had a solid sub appearance. Well, we've met the board's expectations on getting to this point. We've made the team a lot of money by getting this far.

Premier League Match Day #3
Teen Sensation: Vock Assists Them All
(3) Leicester City 3 – 0 Bournemouth (19)
Goals:
Foxes: Quinn (19), Mahrez (46), Kramaric (pen 57)
Shots/On Target: Foxes 19/9, Bournemouth 10/2
Possession: Foxes 53%
Cautions: Foxes: Drinkwater (10) Bournemouth: Nugent (57)
Man of the Match: AMC Giorgio Vock 9.0

Form: Schmeichel 7.0, Simpson 7.7, Moore 7.3, Kalas 7.8, Alonso 7.5, Drinkwater (sub 72) 7.0, Quinn 8.7, Mahrez 7.6, Vock 8.0, Atsu (sub 62) 6.9, Kramaric 7.6, Kasunic (on 62) 6.7, Knockaert (on 72) --

Notes:
16 year-old Giorgio Vock sure made an impression on his debut with three outstanding assists, including winning the penalty that Kramaric converted. He is 16 years old and making grown men look silly with his vision and passing. We've got a future star on our hands. I know it's only one big performance, but the talent is there. We will nurture him through the season or two before unleashing him at 18.
