Capturing Live Streaming Video

What's the best way to capture live streaming video, like on WatchESPN? I did this once before, after the fact with some software I bought (Audials I think? It was a couple of years ago), but it was a PITA and the video was somewhat choppy (despite the stream being fairly smooth). There must be a better way. I'm looking to download a stream of a game this afternoon.
