Report: Irsay said Luck's issues were mental, not physical

If Luck's issue is mental then I'm sure that Irsay would have a pill for that.

Either way it's kind of a down time to be a Colt's fan.

Odds he will be traded before next season just went up I think. Because if it wasn't in his head then, it probably is now.

I fell like he's a tough trade. He's had a lot of injuries. He was phenomenal in 2014 and close to that last year, but he's also had 3 seasons that were just good. There's a buyout option on his contract after next year, but does that help or hurt his trade value?

I'm not sure how much I give up for someone who might be damaged goods at this point.

I wonder if Luck decides that management has been incompetent at putting a team around him, and the owner has just thrown him under the bus, and decides to force his way out.

I'd still give up 3 firsts for him if I needed a QB and could talk to him before finalizing the trade.

I wouldn't really hold those "just good" seasons against Luck. No offensive line and a questionable coaching staff are a bad combination. Perfectly valid to question if he could ever reach his ultimate potential after destroying his throwing shoulder for 3 years but I wouldn't be surprised at all to see him leading his next team to the Super Bowl.

Funny how the logical follow-through on this whole line of thinking is that all roads lead to Denver, yet again.

You don't want to take a chance on a QB with a bum shoulder.

Brees' was hurt so bad, he had to lift the trophy with his left arm.

I don't see Denver trying to make that trade unless they whiff on Cousins as a FA. Call it a hunch, but I think that's destination choice #1 for him and is part of why SF went ahead and made the Jimmy G trade.

Eli looks like the other candidate for a change of scenery next season, right? For any of the usual suspect locations.

Jacksonville seems like the obvious one for him, but it would be fun to see him do the same thing as Peyton and get one last SB in Denver.

Al Davis. Won Super Bowls in the 70s. Most powerful owner in NFL. Owner of a marquee franchise. Went kind of crazy. Periodically sued the NFL. Kept his team in the basement for decades until he finally died.

Jerry Jones. Won Super Bowls in the 90s. Most powerful owner in the NFL. Owner of a marquee franchise. Was mad when his team didn't draft Johnny Football. About to sue the NFL. Seems like he's in good health and could stick around for decades.

Have fun through 2030, Cowboys fans.

Is there a way in which releasing Vontae Davis helps the Colts this year? He's surely got his base salary guaranteed. Why do this?

That's unexpected. His play wasn't what it once was but he was still decent. At least let him play through the year (or even put him on IR?) and get a nice compensatory draft pick.

I think because he's a 9 year vet they likely would have been looking at a 2 round downgrade on any comp pick. But regardless even if he gets you a 7th, wtf are you doing.

This Martellus Bennett thing is odd. He's healthy all season and then makes his post about retiring before Green Bay's BYE. After the BYE, he reports back with a "shoulder injury" that is keeping him from practicing - so he sits out last week. Then, on Monday, he said he's going to get a second opinion and comes back on Tuesday saying he still can't play. According to one of the Green Bay reporters, he apparently told the team he should probably go on the IR. So, the Packers feel like something isn't right and release him with the “failure to disclose a medical condition" designation.

Now, he gets claimed by New England and it appears his shoulder is OK. This looks like he realized GB wasn't going to be a Super Bowl contender when Rodgers went down and tried to get out of playing with a mysterious injury. Now that he has a chance at a ring, everything seems to be better. Not sure what GB's recourse is at this point, but the whole thing doesn't really pass the smell test.

Probably because they actually believed him and his agent when they said he had a serious shoulder injury. Plus, you have to take over his non-bonus contract as well. In a weird way, it helps GB that NE claimed him as it saves them $3-4 million in cap space.

Heard on the radio that the motivation was it allowed them to go after recovery of a large portion of his signing bonus. Not sure the details, but the talking head said the release netted them like 9 million

Denver's offense vs New England's defense in prime time. The resistible object vs the movable force.

Still no definitive word on which of the Redskins 23 OL will be inactive today.

Total Bears move. The RB dives for the end zone and is called out of bounds. Fox challenges and it turns out the RB lost the ball before it hit the pilon. So, Fox’s challenge gives the Packers the ball.

Actually, that's not the call. Among the NFL's absolutely stupid, counter-intuitive rules is the pylon rule. The pylon is considered out of bounds. So, when the guy hit the pylon with the ball and it knocked the ball loose, that meant it was a fumble out of the end zone. GB ball.

It's an absolutely terrible rule. Ridiculous. If you want to call the pylon OOB, fine - although that in and of itself is stupid - but if the pylon is OOB, then he's out of bounds the minute he touches the pylon right? So how can the ball being knocked loose by the pylon be a fumble?

PS, I hate the NFL because this is one of a long list of terrible rules that make no sense.

The ball wasn't knocked loose by the pylon. It was already out of his hands.

I think if you block an XP or intercept a 2 point play and return it to the opposite 3 you should walk away with more than zero points.

How about 2 points if you score but you get the option to free kick for 1 10 yards behind the spot where you go out of bounds or are tackled? And to discourage super long free kicks, the ball is live and can be returned for 2 points? Think it would be a fun play

That's not what I read, nor what I saw. But I don't get that game so I didn't see it live, just how it was explained afterwards. And from the gif I saw, he had the ball until it hit the pylon.
