Going to Detroit

So me and couple of buddies are road tripping to Detroit on Thanksgiving for the Pats vs. Lions game. None of us has ever been, and we're not sure if would be better to stay in the city somewhere, or stay outside the city and just drive in on Thursday? Any Detroit people able to help us out? We've heard we want to be careful in where we stay, especially a few podunks from NH wearing Patriot jerseys.

Any help is greatly appreciated.

Welcome to The D!

You really don't have to worry about being careful where you stay. The bad parts of the city (which is the majority of the city) is pretty obvious. If you have a question about a particular hotel or location, I'd be more than happy to let you know. But if you're just generally staying around the small downtown area near the stadium, you'll be perfectly fine. Folks are pretty good natured for the most. It's hard to be an obnoxius fan when your team has been as bad as the Lions have for as long as the Lions have.

Here is a link to a thread from last year when PurdueBrad and some buddies came into town to watch the Steelers-Lions game.

Visiting Detroit - Front Office Football Central

All the info there should still be good and releavant.

The Lions tend to be very good hosts.

So my buddy went ahead and booked a room at the Courtyard by Marriott on East Jefferson Ave. Looks like it's only a little more than half mile from Ford Field. From the other thread it looks like there's a good amount of dining/hot spots around that area, and we should be fine walking everywhere right?

You're totally fine there. It's right across the street from the Renaissance Center (aka The Death Star), which is like a small city onto itself.

My office is like 4 blocks from that hotel and I have never had any issue. You're walking distance to Greek town, the stadium and a bunch of other places nearby. When it comes to nightlife and the like, Detroit is pretty small and you're pretty much right there.
