While awaiting the results of tonight's battle, I must go make use of a small, hot, metal device from which steam issues to eliminate the random and unsightly miniature folds and creases in the attire I intend to don on the morrow.

I really wish we had this information earlier. It suggests that Firebird is who she says she is and Beast is not. Most unfortunate. Most very unfortunate.

Agreed. This changes the complexion of the discussion, and would have been very useful to have this earlier, but the Vision finds pity upon those carbon based life forms who must flail against the frailty of their very bodies. Illness, indeed.

The second week of the seige against the Rebellion shows renewed vigor, with accusations flying early and often throughout the day. The activity level is brisk, with a flurry of attacks coming and going almost quicker than the eye can capture. But in the end there are three combatants who come under intense scrutiny, finding themselves endangered at the end of the day.

Beast is the victim of a number of early attacks. Firebird unloads with a blast of flame that shimmers in shades of red, orange, and white, but hurts all over. That assault is joined by physical and mental attacks from Henry Pym and Cable. Beast lashes out at Firebird and finds that he is further scorched in the process. Kang blasts him away with a futuristic ray. The blue-furred one is down, but is he out for the count???

Firebird also draws suspicion for her claims of ascending to the heavens. Beast's attack is largely ineffective, but ranged attacks from Punisher - who brings out the heavy artillery - and GhostRider's mystical chain deliver more effective damage. Firebird crashes to the ground; it is apparent that this would-be immortal can be harmed. She does not move.

Quicksilver draws the fury of his companions after using Mr.Fantastic's device against him. He is able to run, improbably dodging attacks from Spider-Man, Aardwolf, Hulk, and SilverSurfer. But he can not hide, as he is eventually worn out and falls prey to strikes from the mystical energies of Scarlet Witch and DrDoom. Magneto, Mimic, and Phoenix pile on before Vision unleashes a wicked one-two combination of solar energy and phasing through the body of the speedster. Another man down.

Which of the three combatants rises at the end of the day? Only one, a battered and bloodied Firebird. The other two have raced ahead into the arms of Death. One of them a loyalist, and the other a Rebel.

I am saddened (and weary) at my contribution to Quicksilver's demise. Yet this is a glorious day, for we have our first traitor corpse! I for one am surprised, because I had believed Beast over Firebird's version of events.

I'd be interested in hearing the thoughts of those who attacked Firebird, now that we see the treachery of her foil.
