I am interested in joining but it depends on how many people sign up. I see you need a password to access the league page, any way you can give updates as to how many people joined up?

25% - I was thinking at least 1/2! No way - 100% payout baby. I use to take a little cut when I had to highlight each individual game. One year I had to look after over 100 brackets and had to mark each one "manually" - love technology.

Thanks TLK! Everyone has paid - that's a feat in itself.
Looks like we have 28 players. I think I will pay the top 3: $180 $70 $30 Good luck!

Sort of an interesting mess... the points in hand probably won't tell the real story with this, with the scoring system so heavily weighted toward the later rounds. What really matters is who has lost teams they need to rack up the monstrous late points.
Personally, I'm mid-pack right now, and had 'Nova in my final four, but I suspect the Kansas loss was a net positive for me, and (without detailed research) I think a Kentucky-over-Syracuse final is probably still a route to the top prize. |

Quik, is the Kentucky/Syraucse projection based on:
1.) You think they are the two best teams? 2.) You think they played the best this weekend? 3.) You think they have the best draws to the final at this point? I would be ecstatic to see that championship, based solely on financial motivations. But I'm also a bit worried about how easy it was for both of those teams over the last four days. There is a part of me that thinks teams need to be challenged early in the tournament. Especially a team like Kentucky who saw a collection of patsies in conference play. |

Oh, sorry hoopsguy...I was just talking about *my* path to the final prize. That was my final pairing, and since both teams are still alive (and there are a buttload of points in the final rounds) I took a quick look for anyone else who is already ahead of me and also has that combo in the final game -- and didn't find anyone in my quick looking. I may need to get one more win from Xavier to try to pull ahead in any "tiebreaker" (in this exponential scoring system, the early rounds more or less just serve as tiebreakers among the people who got the last few winners correct...I'm not a fan).

No problem, figured I would ask the question about those teams. The times I've seen gambling-related posts from you they have usually been pretty well considered so I was curious about your final two pairing lining up with mine (different betting pool).

For what it's worth, I don't think there's any reason at all to regret those picks, though if Syracuse doesn't get back Onuaku back, they are going to eventually get into trouble with only six usable players.
From what I have seen, and setting aside the cinderellas a bit for this purpose, the teams who looks to me like they have enough to "win it all" might include the remaining one seeds (though I'm not really sold on Duke, to be honest), along with Kansas State, Ohio State, and perhaps Baylor (I liked a lot of what I saw from them in round two, even when getting tested a bit). |

We have a winner:
Mikey 1st (and last - pretty impressive) for $180 Arlon Rahn & Kevin Boroniec tied for 2nd and had the same amount of points for the tie breaker so will be splitting 2nd/3rd money $50 each.

Any chance to alter the weightings? I strongly oppose the logarithmic setup that they provide as a default, as I think it cheapens the early rounds way too much.
Personally, I go for a really simple 1-2-3-4-5-6 weighting, but if the group desires, I'd go for something in between like 2-3-5-8-12-20. |

I do like the 2-3-5-8-12-20 format. I see both sides of the coin - picking early upsets is "cool" but in the end picking the correct final four and winner is what it all comes down to. IMO - of course.
I don't think I can change the scoring this year due to I already sent the invite with rules attached and some have already filled out brackets. I'm really going to try to remember next year to change it to the later format - but if you remember Quick - give me a heads up reminder before selection Sunday.

So far we have 16 people who have filled in their bracket(s). I know at least 10 more who were in last year that will most likely have a bracket filled by tomorrow.
Feel free to send an invite to whoever you may think would want to play....

I don't know if you noticed Arlie, but post first round, our brackets are very similar. I think we're different on three games. I have Syracuse over North Carolina, Texas over Arizona and Uconn over San Diego state.

I was just looking at this now...
As per the custom rules on CBS's site" Will pay out 1st (75%) and 2nd (25%) We have 35 entries: 1st $262.5 2nd $87.5 Kentucky going to the final four guaranteed me (Bob Roth) a 2nd place finish. I'm in first now with 63 pnts but thats all I can score. Lathum - you're in 2nd with 53 points and no more opportunity to score anymore either. Only one who can surpass us is Brian Cantrell - he has UCONN going to to the championship game. So we're both on Kentucky's bandwagon next Sat Fun side note: last years winner scored 110 pnts and 63 could win this year
