That's why I was asking in this thread - I wanted to get everyone talking about rules/etc as this thread is too quiet. I would like to get the biggest bang for our buck on our two bills today, but I don't want them to get overturned by the supreme court. What are the Republican thoughts on their bill, if you care to share (before we have liasons to make this easier)?

We're busy plotting how to overthrow the governm--I mean, um...picking our leaders and talking about similar things for our seer bill. And my personal opinion is that we want to try to get an extra little something, something that is fundamentally fair and useful, not that is going to give us a huge advantage, because we'll never see that advantage.

If we determine a speaker, they can propose a bill too.

As far as I can tell, only Leaders can propose bills. I don't see where it says the Speaker can.

Anyway, that won't really matter to us today, since we won't have a Speaker until Day 1 is over.

So shouldn't the Speaker be a Republican? I mean seriously, Seer is way more powerful than BG -- we want someone who stands to gain from creating Seers.

While I thank everyone for their consideration as speaker, I don't believe I have the time right now to serve the entire country and will focus on representing my constituents to the best of my ability. I, however, would like to support Chubby's bid for Speaker.

I don't think any of us should know who the Seer/BG is. That is, unless you're looking for a loophole to allow the Wolf Party to easily find out their identity.

It would be a random party member.

A random Republican party member? I think that's a bad idea.

To get our support, you will need to make it a random member of either the Republican OR Democratic parties.

Also, I think that's good strategy as you would be making it harder on the wolves. Otherwise they'd know exactly which party the seer is in - making it easier for them to pick him/her off.

So you're saying that the BG and the seer should both be up as random members of either party?

This is quite true and goes for the bodyguard as well. IF BOTH are up as random, I could support it.

Our bill has been written to ensure the bodyguard is chosen at random from any non-wolf (regardless of Rep/Dem party).

We will be presenting it shortly to the congress.

Making the BG and Seer entirely random -- while excluding the wolves -- makes a ton of sense. We shouldn't give the wolves even a tiny bit of an advantage.

Coming together on a Speaker candidate will be pretty hard in a divided House. Chubby comes from a very moderate district, and I think he will work to try and move moderate proposals from either party. For no other reason than to improve his own chance at reelection. Self-interest is a powerful motivator.

I don't know if you meant to quote me in your post, but I didn't say anything about people knowing who the Seer/BG is.

Why can't we make all the roles democratic, yet announce that they are all given to republicans than let the wolves have at it?

Most of today seems to be related to the Parties organizing themselves. In this forum, the only pending business is voting for a Speaker. At some point today, there should be legislation to vote on, but none has been offered to this point.

As the newly established Leader of the esteemed Democratic Party, I hereby submit the following bill for consideration.

We believe that this is the most important step in ensuring our safety against the wolves and are excited that the Democratic Party is the first party to submit a bill to address the Wolf threat.

NATIONAL WOLF SECURITY BILL

Congressional Sponsorship: PackerFanatic and path12

WHEREAS, our country is faced with a security threat from within in the guise of the so-called "Wolf Party":

BE IT RESOLVED:
The role of Bodyguard is hereby established. The Bodyguard may protect either him or herself or one other member of Congress from harm once per year. The Bodyguard may guard the same person in consecutive years if deemed necessary. The Bodyguard shall notify Chief Rum of who he or she intends to protect prior to passage of the night deadline.

Should the person under the Bodyguard's protection be attacked by wolves, there is a 33% chance that the attacker is killed by the Bodyguard. Should the attacker survive, there is a 33% chance that the identity of the attacker will become known to the Bodyguard.

The Bodyguard will be chosen randomly by divine providence (aka Chief Rum) from among the living Members of Congress who are not wolf party members.

If I am running against St Cronin for speaker then I'd like to appeal to my centrist counterparts in the GOP.

jeheinz72, RendeR, and illinifan999:
As we move forward towards our ultimate goal of eliminating the Wolf Party from being I can ensure you that as Speaker of the House I will do my duty to uphold the responsibility of the position as well as try to get both sides of the aisle to support issues that further us towards our goal of eliminating the Wolf Party. As fellow centrists, it is probably in your best interest to support myself for Speaker as your constituents back home favor moderates vs someone more conservative leaning as St Cronin in.

Your support would go a long way in bringing the two parties together towards a bipartsanship approach to eliminating the wolves. It would also help you get reelected back home. Nobody but the wolves win if you don't get reelected.
