South Carolina State versus Hartford
South Carolina State vs. Hartford
Hartford Starters Ratings Code:
South Carolina State Starters Ratings Code:
First Half Highlights During the first half we came out cold and had our butts handed to us. We shot only .364 from the floor and had 13 fouls. Plus we got out rebounded by 13 in the first half (24 - 11) while they shot lights out. They shot .636 from the field and only committed 7 fouls. If you couldn't guess we were getting trampled in the first half. We trailed by as much as 20 points at the 3:17 mark by a score of 40 - 20. We were able to put together a 10 to 1 run in the final few minutes to narrow the score a tad bit more before half. Halftime Score: South Carolina State 30 - Hartford 41 Second Half Highlights During the second half we started mounting a decent comeback until disaster struck our team at the 10:40 mark. We lost Morris Calton for 60 days due to a broken leg as he went up for a layup and was slightly run into by A. Grube. We will be without Calton for at least 16 games. During the second half both teams turned over the ball by throwing it out of bounds numerous times. The game would have been a well played game if both teams realized they were playing NCAA basketball instead of sandlot football. We made a charge and only allowed Hartford to score 15 points total in the second half and came from behind to win by a score of 64 to 56. I have to give it my team they showed a lot of heart and determination to come back from a 20 point deficit and win after losing Calton. Halloway stepped up in place of the injured Calton and won Player of the Game Honors. Final Score: South Carolina State 64 - Hartford 56 Code:

South Carolina State vs. Jacksonville State

Jacksonville State Starters Ratings Code:
South Carolina State Starters Ratings Code:
First Half Highlights After watching my team play the last couple games, I have determined we have a seriously long way to go to make us a conference championship competitor. We lack depth, we lack defense, and we are very poor shooters as proven tonight. In the first half we shot .310 from the field to Jacksonville's .429. Most stats were pretty similar other than the FG%. Even though we were outshot but a decent margin, we managed to hang in the game. Halftime Score: South Carolina State 37 - Jacksonville State 38 Second Half Highlights If you can this a highlight, we lose our second player in as many games to another broken bone. This time it is PF Branden Gill, which makes us even weaker at the forward position as he broke his hip and will be out for 20 days. During the second half we just got dismantled. We shot decent from the field but so did Jacksonville, and we committed 17 personal fouls in the second half with one player fouling out of the game with 2 minutes to go, Mashburn, leaving us weaker yet at forward. With that said, we put them on the line too many times, had no defense inside and just got blistered in the last 4 minutes to lose. Final Score: South Carolina State 83 - Jacksonville State 93 Code:

November 25th, 2004
Code:
Beat up and battered, we came home for our first game to face Coastal Carolina and took it to them as we took a first half lead 49 - 34 and shot .586 from the field. We also had 4 turnovers to Coastal Carolina's 12. By the end of the game, we had finished strong even with two of our forwards on the injured list to finish the game 87 to 63. We shot .569 from the field, .682 from the charity stripe, .375 from 3 point land, were +4 in steals, +11 in turnovers. |

November 29th, 2004 - Game 4 (Conference Game)
November 29th, 2004 - Game 4 (Conference Game)
Code:
Game Overview We were lucky to be in the game at all the way we played. The one thing that kept us in the game in the first half was the amount of times they fouled us and put us on the foul line. They fouled us 16 times to our 8 which helped, since we shot .333 from the field to their .609. In the second half, we just did not keep our cool. At the 15 minute mark we accumulated 3 fouls and 3 technical fouls in one minute of play, which also landed Streit on the bench for the game due to fouling out. So with two forwards out due to injury and our number one scorer on the bench, we didn't know how to defend Florida A&M, as we accumulated 16 personal fouls to their 2. That was the difference. We shot well in the second half, but we gave them too many points from the chraity stripe to really have a chance at coming back. So we lose our first conference game, and our last game of November. We will getting more home games in the middle of the year since we are so road heavy at the beginning. 6 of our first 8 are on the road. If we can somehow manage to be 4 - 4 or better yet, 5 - 3 by the time we get home court, we will be in good shape. |

We land our first recruit of the year. We have had a very rough year in recruiting so far. We had a couple recruits ready to sign and then left the following month to another team. We lost two great players that way. Fortunately, one SF we really coveted decided to join our program. Code:

Bethune-Cookman (1-4) vs. South Carolina State (2-2) (Conference)
December 4th, 2004 - Game 5 (Conference Matchup)
Code:
Game Overview We came out tough at home against Bethune-Cookman and beat them handedly in the first half by a score of 36 to 18. The biggest key to this mismatch was the first half shooting, we shot .447 from the field as they only shot .250. A couple other determining factors were turnovers where they had 11 to our 5, and only 1 assist to our 8. We passed the ball around well, and didn't make many first half mistakes. During the second half of the game, we cooled in FG%, and they shot better, but yet, the first half deficit was too much to overcome by a obviously weaker Bethune-Cookman team. One big key to their second half comeback, besides their FG%, was the amount of times we fouled them (13) and they shot .655 from the charity stripe to our very poor .364. Fortunately we had a big enough lead in teh first to win the game by a final of 60 - 52. |

South Carolina State (3-2) vs. Hampton (4-3) (Conference)
December 6th, 2004 - Game 6 (Conference Matchup)
Code:
Game Overview The first half of this game was a good game dispite the huge disadvantage we had on the inside and outside. Hampton looks like a conference prestige 3 team as far as ratings on their players. We were able to keep the score at 39 to 33 advantage Hampton by half, regardless of them out rebounding us by 7 and putting us in foul trouble on the inside with 15 first half fouls. One lucky break for us, and not Hampton, Gerald Epps starting PG got injured (fractured hip) at the 6:02 mark. In the second half we just got creamed as the true Hampton team showed up to play ball. Also, we shot bad enough to drop our first half FG% from .423 to .389, while Hampton's went from .433 to .443. Plus, losing our best inside rebounder in Chris Lacy to a bruised hip for 8 days. They dominated us on the boards and inside shooting and took it to us to drop our conference record to (1 - 2). Final, 78 to 59. |

South Carolina State (3-3) vs. Howard (2-3) (Conference)
December 11th, 2004 - Game 7 (Conference Matchup)
Code:
Game Overview Beginning this game, Howard's starting PG was missing due to a "Broken Skull", oouch, now that has to hurt! He will be absent for more than 97 days. We came out of the gates ice freaking cold. We could not hit the ground if we fell out of a plane. Yes it was that bad. We saw Howard go up 11 - 1 to start the game, and 16 - 3 with us only shooting .071 from the field. Then tragidy hit again, for the third time this season, as we lost PF Charles Burns, one of our best shooters for 44 days due to a bulging disc. If we didn't have bad luck, we wouldn't have any at all. With as many injuries as we are having and the lack of defense our realistic goal on the season is .500. After the 16 - 3 run, we were able to keep pace with Howard as we both finished the half with 22 points to move the halftime score to 38 - 25. We shot .273 from the field, .111 from the charity stripe and got out rebounded by 8. In the second half, we shot well and they cooled, but we were in too big of a hole to climb out, especially with our lack of depth inside. Plus, their top player (SG James Josey) who averages 21 points a game hit his average. We just could not keep them off the boards as they racked up 51 rebounds to our 34. We made a small comeback, but could not climb out of the hole. We drop to (1-3) in our conference. |

Thanks mtaystl03.
I have rattled off a few more games since my last post and will get around to posting them tomorrow maybe. Having fun. This is a cool message board to participate in. I do however get bored with things if it doesn't seem like anyone cares. I feel i could play and check things out myself and it wouldn't take as much time to write the dynasty. Thanks for reading, encourages me to continue posting. Tough game, but it sinks its teeth in you once you truely get into it. The programmer did a good job thinking things out, very realistic. |

South Carolina State (3-4) vs. Albany (1-6)
December 14th, 2004 - Game 8
Code:
Game Overview We came out and played well against Albany, but at halftime we were down to a team I feel we are better than by a score of 36 to 33. We shot well from t he field at .500 and .500 from the charity stripe. Albany only shot .391, but .800 from the line and we had 12 fouls in the first half to put them on the line many times. That was the difference in the first half. We come out in the second half with Streit on the bench because of his 3 fouls but have to bring him in for a breather to Henning. Within 1 minute of being in the game, Streit fouls, argues the foul, gets a technical and fouls out by the 18 minute mark. Our man D killed us in this game but decide to stick with it due to its 94 rating and our other defensive schemes rated 50's. We never really had much of a chance in this game with 3 starters sidelined. We are now 0 - 5 in our last 5 road games even though we out shot our oppenents. |

East Carolina (5-2) vs. South Carolina St. (3-5)
December 18th, 2004 - Game 9
Code:
Game Overview We finally get to come home for a game. We are 2 - 0 this year at home, and 1 - 5 on the road. Before the game I gave my old friend a call who now coaches the mighty Navy Midshipman and asked his advice on how to manage a basketball game. His advice proved critical as we dominated East Carolina on the boards. By halftime, the score was 34 - 24. In the second half, we continued taking it to East Carolina as we collected 10 more boards than them (41-31) and shot a below average FG% of .383, but it still was better than East Carolina's .362. Plus, we played our first matchup D of the season due to the advice from my coaching buddy from Navy and proved to be the difference. We fouled less, and played overall better ball. By the 8 minute mark, we hit the breaks and milked the clock for all we could after gaining an 18 point lead. Game ball goes to Holloway and my buddy from Navy! |

Arkansas-Little Rock (2-8) vs. So. Carolina St. (4-5)
December 23rd, 2004 - Game 10
Code:
Game Overview At halftime, we found ourselves losing 31 - 30. We were outshot .444 to .379 and out rebounded by 6. We were able to hang in there because of our turnovers differential of +4 and our ability to sink a free throw at .833 to their .250. We also lost Aldo Mashburn to an injury in the first half because of a broken nose. He will be not be 100% for at least 9 days. In the second half, it was as close as the first half. Arkansas wound up taking an 8 point lead on us with 3 minutes left to go in the game. We had some late heroics from our team though and made a comeback by evening it up with 49 seconds left to go. Even up, we have a free throw attempt by Gill and it is good as we go up by 1. With 40 seconds left, Brandon Gill causes an illegal block and we turn the ball over. Arkansas takes the ball out and goes down court for a shot. Dunkin misses the jumpshot from the free throw line and Lacy snags the rebound. With 4 seconds left and a foul coming with a poor free throw shooter holding the ball we take a timeout to talk things over. Having the full length of the court and a struggle for the ball puts Arkansas at a disadvantage in a comeback bid. The ball is inbounded to Henning as he takes a final shot as the buzzer sounds and it is a miss. Final 68 to 67 the good guys. |

So. Carolina St. (5-5) vs. Maryland-East Shore (6-2)
December 27th, 2004 - Game 11 (Conference Matchup)
Code:
Game Overview We come into this game with a 1-3 conference record and a 1-5 road record. I have to admit, it is not fun this year to play away from home and I am asking my kids to win on the road and in the conference against the team with the best record, two days after Christmas with three starters injured. We come out playing tough but still cannot get the breaks as Maryland shoots .440 from the field, .800 from the line, and .500 from 3 point land. We managed .370 from the field, .571 from the line, and .111 from 3 point land. Our only bright side of the first half was getting their starting center to accumulate 4 fouls in the first 10 minutes. It didn't matter though, because we could not stop their outside game even with a 3 - 2 D, or matchup zone. At half it was 37 to 29. In the second half, we still could not take away their 3 point shot as they continued to roll over us as they shot .491 for the game from the field, .679 from the line, and .462 from 3. We managed to shoot better, but we just could not stop them with our .392 from teh field, .667 from the line, and .267 from 3. The game ended with us unable to to put together any comeback and still unable to stop the 3 as we lost 77 to 66. That is our 4th loss in the conference sending our record to 1 - 4, and we are now 1 - 6 on the road while being 4 - 0 at home. |

January 1st, 2004 - Season Review To Date
Code:
Code:
Recruiting Update We nailed two more recruits that we desperately wanted. Recruits were getting thin and we poured the attention on these two guys this last month to attempt to take them off the market. It seemed to work, because they signed with us. Positions departing in the offseason (*SF - Calton, *PF - Mashburn, SF - Toth, SG - Jurado). We have now nailed three players of need: SF - Joshua Reinhold *** (Last month) SF - Donny Gomez *** (This Month) PF - Harold Lanier *** (This Month) We are gonna attempt to land a SG from the UK this month as we offer him a scholarship and a campus visit costing us $10,000 of our $11,600. Plus we are evaluating a guy who really wants to come to S. Carolina St. and see if he is worth pursuing as a non-scholarship athlete. No other school is offering him a scholarship currently, and we are #1 on his list. So far, i would say I am very pleased with our recruiting class with 3 three star players, but wish Denver Rauch would have signed. Oh well, time to move on as we attempt our first overseas recruit. Our season so far has been marked by disaster with all the injuries and the inability to play good ball on the road, weak zone D, and a front heavy road schedule. We have a very bright recruiting class with a decent core coming back. At least one thing has gone our way so far. Code:
