Lee Hall battered Continental League pitchers all April and wound up taking home the Batter of the Month Award.

"I put in a lot of work, even on the days I might not take the field, and it's always nice when everything comes together for me like it did this last month."

In 27 games, Hall hit .353 with 9 home runs, 19 RBIs and scored 18 runs.

Yorke Wins CL's Best Bat Award
Friday, June 1st, 2198
In the last year of his deal with Leduc, Burl Yorke has created some waves by winning May's Continental League Batter of the Month title today.

He put up a solid .390 batting average with 9 home runs, 24 RBIs and 22 runs scored. He also worked CL pitchers for 7 walks and a .426 on-base percentage.

If he keeps churning out numbers like these, the 28-year-old is sure to draw some attention, when contract time rolls around.

Looking at his season stats, Yorke has compiled a .343 batting average and a .387 on-base percentage, while hitting 9 home runs and driving in 31 runs.

Sousa Takes Best Bat Award in May

Today Hartford's Luis Sousa was named the Republic League Batter of the Month for May. He punished RL hurlers hard all month long, collecting 42 hits in 108 at-bats.

With a .389 batting average, 7 home runs, 30 RBIs and 16 runs scored, he was an easy choice.

Thus far this year Sousa has hit .341 with 11 home runs and 42 RBIs.

Williamson Premier Pitcher in May
Friday, June 1st, 2198
Chris Williamson took home the Continental League Pitcher of the Month honors in May. After all these years playing ball, the 35-year-old veteran still enjoys the game as though he'd just broken camp for the first time a month ago. He's a bit older now with a few more aches and pains, but the old man has reason to celebrate, having gone 5-0 for Cleveland last month and claiming the Pitcher of the Month award.

He tacked up a 1.91 ERA in his 7 starts, tossing 37.2 innings and striking out 31.

So far this year Williamson has a 7-3 record with a 3.21 ERA.

Marlboros Hurler Named RL's #1 Starter
Friday, June 1st, 2198
Despite the number of years he's been in the league, Roberto Ruíz still gets excited when he puts together a quality stretch like he had in May. The 36-year-old starter for Toronto was named Republic League Pitcher of the Month earlier today.

He collected 5 wins and no losses with 26 strikeouts in his 5 starts, putting up a fine 0.84 ERA in 42.2 innings of work.

This season Ruíz has a 8-3 mark in 11 starts with a 2.52 ERA. He has given up 75 hits in 82 innings, struck out 50 and issued 15 walks. Opposing clubs have compiled a .247 batting average against him.

Leduc's Starter Receives CL Pitching Award
Sunday, July 1st, 2198
June's top hurler was Rafael Ortíz of Leduc. He shackled Continental League hitters the entire month and claimed the Pitcher of the Month award with a sparkling 5-1 mark.

The 32-year-old Ortíz added 43 strikeouts in 51.2 innings and 4 walks to his season record and compiled a 0.70 ERA. Other clubs hit .177 against him.

On the season Ortíz has compiled a 8-8 mark with a 2.84 ERA in 21 starts. In pitching 130 innings he has 109 strikeouts and 16 walks while limiting the opposition to a .253 batting average.

Republic League Names #1 Pitcher in June
Sunday, July 1st, 2198
Kevin Merrill nailed down June's Republic League Pitcher of the Month award today, adding pressure on Omaha to get a deal done before the 29-year-old becomes a free agent.

Merrill seems unfazed by the talk. "We get a deal done or we don't," he told reporters, "I'm not worrying about next year. Worrying about next year isn't what wins awards, you know?"

He fashioned a 6-0 record, reeled off 21 strikeouts, worked 42 innings and held batters to a .221 average for the month as he posted a 1.93 ERA.

For the year Merrill has compiled a 8-5 record with a 3.58 ERA.

Mike Morgan Triumphs in CL Rookie Vote
Sunday, July 1st, 2198
Mike Morgan is still a bit shy, but then, who could blame the newest Continental League Rookie of the Month honoree? He hasn't been around the league long enough to fully know the ropes yet, despite the fact that he's putting up veteran-like numbers.

In June the Leduc hitter tagged opposing pitching for a .333 average with 31 hits, 1 home run and 8 RBIs.

Morgan is hitting at a .263 mark this season. His stats show 3 home runs, 23 RBIs and 58 runs scored. He has played 81 games for the Bullets.

Rodríguez Chosen RL's Best Newcomer
Sunday, July 1st, 2198
Youngster Carlos Rodríguez emerged as the latest Republic League Rookie of the Month today. The young man from Atlanta deserved the honor, batting .337 with 8 home runs and 13 RBI. Is the month of June a harbinger of things to come or just a fluke? We'll find out someday, but for now, we'll just let Rodríguez enjoy the limelight.

Currently Rodríguez is batting .316 with 15 home runs and 48 RBIs.

Tobías Tabbed as July's Starter of the Month
Wednesday, August 1st, 2198
When Juan Tobías takes the mound, a Leduc victory is usually the result. At least that's the way it was in July.

He excelled with a 4-0 mark and a 2.06 ERA in 6 starts, tossed 39.1 innings, fanned 41 and held opposing batters to a .220 average.

That's why the Bullets starter was honored today as the Pitcher of the Month by the Continental League.

In 25 starts this year Tobías has recorded a 11-5 record and a 3.69 ERA.

Pitcher of the Month Named in RL
Wednesday, August 1st, 2198
Ray Rose has been around the league long enough to know that relievers are often overlooked. That has never stopped him from doing what he does best -- and he did it extremely well in July and stole away with the Republic League Pitcher of the Month award.

The Riverhawks bullpen ace collected 8 saves and 9 strikeouts in 12 innings, holding the opposition to a .175 average and posting a 0.00 ERA and a 1-0 record.

Currently Rose has 44 relief appearances, saving 21. His record is 4-3 with 42 strikeouts in 50 innings and a 2.88 ERA.

CL Names Rookie Star of the Month
Wednesday, August 1st, 2198
The Continental League Rookie of the Month Award for July goes to Mike Morgan, the center fielder for Leduc. He took the league by storm, hitting .368 and looks like he might just be a legitimate contender for the Benny Myers Rookie of the Year Award.

Morgan tagged 35 hits in 95 at-bats, including 1 home run, produced 5 RBIs and scored 21 times.

This season Morgan is batting .288 with 4 home runs. His totals include 28 RBIs and 79 runs scored.

Martin Moore put up eye-catching numbers in July to earn himself the Republic League Rookie of the Month Award.

The left fielder for the Omaha Bees batted .333 with 8 home runs, 22 RBIs and 20 runs scored as he proved he does deserve to play in the Republic League.

Currently Moore has 16 home runs and a .248 batting average.

Saturday, September 1st, 2198
Bailey Baddeley really strutted his stuff in August with 3 wins and no losses and walked off with the Pitcher of the Month Award in the Continental League. The Brooklyn starter was good news for his club, but bad news for the opposition.

In 39 innings of work, Baddeley limited opposing batters to 25 base hits and a .182 batting average. He totaled 23 strikeouts, issued 5 walks and had a 1.85 ERA.

To date this season Baddeley sports a 14-6 mark with a 2.89 ERA in 26 starting assignments. He has held the opposition to a .216 batting average and has 125 strikeouts in 180.2 innings.

He batted .268 with 5 home runs, 19 RBIs and 15 runs scored.

The 21-year-old is barely old enough to shave, but he could definitely contend for Rookie of the Year if he keeps up this pace.

Gagnon is hitting .227 for the season with 26 home runs, 78 RBIs and 66 runs scored. He has 115 hits in 506 at-bats and played in 135 games.

The game does an awful job with these, just FYI. But I can understand not wanting to go into the main schedule and editing if you're not comfortable with that.

The easiest way to do the MLB rules here (since in real life, the teams get a choice) would be that whichever team has the best head-to-head record against both would play the winner of the other two teams at home.

I have made a note of this suggestion. I'll do it next time for sure.

I figured my pitching would suck, and I presume it did. But it seems like my hitting also took a nap, and that surprised me. Oh well...

Congrats to the playoff teams and good luck tomorrow.

Tough luck there with the playoff, Dan!
