IWS #212: Results
1. Name a song which contains a color in its title.
10 - Yellow Submarine 7 - Purple Rain 6 - Paint it Black 4 - Purple Haze 3 - Back in Black 3 - Blue Suede Shoes 2 - Red, Red Wine 1 - Blue Monday; Pink Cadillac; 99 Red Balloons; It's Not Easy Being Green; White Wedding; Somewhere Over the Rainbow This turned out about how I expected, actually. The only surprise are some of the folks who didn't go with Purple Rain - more on that later. 2. Name a performer or group of performers whose stage name contains a color. 8 - Blue Man Group 8 - Pink Floyd 6 - Pink 5 - Black Sabbath 4 - Green Day 4 - Red Hot Chili Peppers 2 - White Stripes 1 - Scarlett Johansson, Maroon Five, James Brown, Blue Oyster Cult Not a real surprise for me here either - outside of completely forgetting about Pink Floyd. I was thinking musical acts at first before the light bulb went on and I realized "oh right - Blue Man Group". I do feel a little bad for the Godfather of Soul though. 3. Name a species which has a color as part of its common name. 10 - blue jay 7 - great white shark 6 - blue whale 5 - goldfish 3 - bluebird 2 - black bear 2 - red fox 1 - black widow, black mamba, pink flamingo, black panther, blackbird, orange This question also wasn't a great surprise - I'd have gone blue jay - though I expected black/brown bear to do a little better overall. 4. Give the name of a fictional work which has a color in its title. 11 - The Color Purple 9 - Green Eggs and Ham 6 - A Clockwork Orange 4 - 50 Shades of Grey 3 - The Green Mile 2 - Red Badge of Courage 1 - The Scarlet Letter, Red Dawn, Snow White, Red Dragon, Blue Lagoon, Red Oprah wins out. Somehow, I didn't see GE&H coming. When thinking of the question, Red Badge of Courage was one of the examples I thought of first. But, it's a little too old and a little too literature for stupid so I'm not surprised it didn't fare well. 5. Provide a well-known phrase or saying which references a color. 8 - green with envy 5 - feeling blue 3 - caught red-handed 3 - once in a blue moon 2 - silver spoon 2 - pot calling the kettle black 2 - out of the blue 2 - grass is always greener 1 - roses are red, it's not easy being green, hotter than blue blazes, yellow-bellied, white lie, red hot, blue balls, black sheep, black and blue, I do not like green eggs and ham, black and white, black Friday, silver lining, blue in the face THIS was a tough one; it knocked a lot of people out, and in two cases, denied entrants the title. 6. Name someone, real or imaginary, who does not have a color in their name but is strongly associated with one. 8 - Prince 7 - Johnny Cash 3 - Tiger Woods 3 - Kermit the Frog 3 - Satan 2 - Barack Obama 2 - Gandalf 1 - Darth Vader, Moby Dick, Pablo Picasso, Smurfs, BB King, Midas, Lance Armstrong, Ginger (Gilligan's Island), Big Bird, The Incredible Hulk, Manfred von Richthofen, Grim Reaper, Ronald McDonald Another killer question. This was worded as it was because I specifically didn't want to have everyone give the same answer to this as they did 4 - Snow White, Black Beauty, Black Stallion, etc (though those turned out not to be popular choices). Then I thought about it from a character standpoint, and had a damned hard time coming up with anyone besides The Incredible Hulk or plural, the Smurfs. So I opened it up to real people - and immediately thought of the two leaders. Though I have to say, pretty much all of the answers here were inspired and make perfect sense. What I found funny about the eight entries who hit the target with Prince though is that only ONE of them also said Purple Rain (and vice-versa for the seven who chose Purple Rain). Two were correct in opting for Yellow Submarine, and the remainder all chose different songs. ***The Results***
Take it away, Lathum.

Haha that is a very low final score, wow. Congrats.
I thought I nailed it with my "Grim Reaper" answer since I was going through each color, trying to figure out something associated with each one, and couldn't think of anything prominent until I hit black. |

Very low scores so I'll take my middle-of-the-road finish.
My answer for #6 that I didn't think anyone would choose but was brilliant: Arnold Auerbach |

I started to go with Grim Reaper but then felt the Hulk was a better answer.

Scarlett Johansson is one of the hottest chicks drooled over on this board. Can't believe I was on an island with that.

Gah, of course stupid is too stupid to realize that plants are species and the most likely species to be a color is Orange!

You know it was a good IWS when the winner hits lower than 1/6th of the maximum score.
Questions 5 and 6 really destroyed my own chances, especially the last one.

Well I'll be.
I though Green Day and Green Mile screwed me, surprised more people didnt go with that. There is no way I can host one right now. I leave for London in a week and am very busy. I am going to PM Draft Dodger to see if he is game. |

Dammit. I thought I was being highly clever with the Green Eggs and Ham book + I Do Not Like Green Eggs and Ham quote.

Creative answer. I'll give you that. Do normal people know who Blue Man Group even is? It seems like a very Vegas answer. It's been years since BMG even had that Intel spot. |

I thought that someone other than me would pick Midas. Obviously thought wrong. Instead of the Midas touch this game, I had the Hankey touch.

Wow…didn't think I'd do that well. The saying killed me. I just went blank. Didn't even consider green with envy. Heck, didn't consider most of them!
Way to go Lathum! |

Woot, my first top 10 finish. Done in by Red Badge of Courage. Although to be fair, I was debating between that and the Scarlet Letter.

Cash is known as "The man in black", and Tiger always wears red on the last day of a tournament.

I'm sad there was no love for the Red Baron, too.

I thought that was an inspired choice - but wouldn't have thought of it myself.
