I picked Chuck Berry over No Doubt. But it was difficult.
These 2 are 2 of my favorite artists. It was a toss up.

Foreigner vs Chicago... I just saw Foreigner last night and to my surprise they killed (although they're basically a tribute band at this point). I love Chicago. I ended up voting Foreigner based on last nights euphoria but I'm fine with Chicago beating them.

Side note... Cheap Trick played as well. They look like a bunch of 70 year olds trying to hang on.

Those are my boys

But sadly, they are very hit and miss anymore. Sometimes it's 1979 again, others it's like. Guys, everyone loves you, call it a day.

The two singles they've released from the current album illustrate that very well.

The first one was pretty sad.
The second/current one is, well, it's at least tolerable (and helped considerably by being under three minutes IIRC)

So happy RATM tied and advanced. Probably first influential band of my lifetime.

Reason for Beatles having an asterisk next to the name or just a typing error?

There are at least 8,000 Steely Dan songs I'd like to listen to before any solo John Lennon. There's a couple good songs in there, to be sure, but I really wouldn't miss Lennon's post-Beatles work if we had to scrap certain artist's entire catalog for fuel, or something.

On the other hand Steely Dan is the absolute best at hiding sleaze and depravity inside self-indulgent, fake-jazz rock, and I can't get enough of that shit. "Time Out of Mind" for example is a smooth ass jam, complete with Michael McDonald singing background gibberish, entirely about smoking heroin. "The Cuervo Gold, The fine Colombian" etc. Most Steely Dan lyrics are like William Burroughs stories, while the music has been infused with studio magic and worked up to a ridiculously slick shine. They have their own peculiar, unique style, and sometimes it seems like they were just trying to entertain themselves, but I'm sad to see them go down. Steely Dan were also one of the first musical acts that I had to acquire a taste for, as I wouldn't even bother with boring ass crap like that until I turned 21 or around there. I probably still wasn't listening to solo Lennon, though.

Kind of the opposite of heybrad, but I got to see Chicago once, and they were fantastic. Nothing against Foreigner.

Maybe it's the Beatles with Starr instead of their first drummer. Because a Starr is better than Best.

Yeah, agree. I never really listened to the Steely Dan lyrics until maybe the last 5 years... and "Hey Nineteen" is definitely effed up.

No Doubt was my pro-Brexit vote. No chance they would win so I threw them a bone. Thankfully it isn't going to backfire like the real vote.

I can't believe solo Lennon is beating Steely Dan. I mean, I guess I can believe it, but it's BS. Don't get me wrong - I'm a major Beatles fan and Lennon was indispensable in their catalog. But his solo output is a far cry from his time in the Beatles, and doesn't hold up compared to Steely Dan.

Steroids. The hair was to cover up the obvious growth in head size.

Round over and no real tense moments outside of the Steely Dan/Lennon matchup, which closed with a big push for Lennon who pulled away. The one upset can not even really be considered one due to the seeds and general reverence Chicago gets. On to group B.

Without research, I thought Chicago over Foreigner was an obvious choice.

But separately from this tournament I did some digging through the Foreigner catalog last night... and it is surprisingly (to me) good. Lot of great songs in there.
