Switching routers in the house

My god, I feel like this is equivalent to the jump from the Nintendo D pad to the PS3 controller.

Windows 8

Get the new Linksys router, plug the modem into it and can never ever get beyond the "limited" connectivity no matter what I do. Im back on the old router now.

Any common things Id be screwing up? unplug for 2 minutes, order of plugging in. etc?

BTW, I searched the interbews and those things range from advice as stupid as turn on the crap, to stuff involving MAC id's etc which is over my head. Anything in the middle to try?

Its a Cisco EA6500

First thing to try is to try and connect direct to the router with cable. It could be something as simple as an IP conflict. Turn off all the other items that might be connecting to it.

So the router works fine. I would go into the router settings and try and see what IP addresses are assigned and what is connected. Is anything else, or are some things connected and other things not?

You can check and make sure the encryption settings are compatible and so on.

yeah, had to do it again because some sort of setup thing hung it up but this second try might seem to be sticking.
