Unless I am totally missing something here, this rant just seems like the epitome of a privileged star, with nothing better to do than find things to be outraged about.

I completely understand Lovato's battles with eating disorders, eating disorders are a terrible thing and I can't imagine her struggles. But to just selfishly dismiss the health concerns/disorders of others because she thinks labeling something as diet demeans her struggles, really?

So just screw diabetics, those with lactose/gluten intolerance, or those that just want reduced fats, because it should be all about her. Sometimes I feel like I am turning into "get off my lawn" guy, but come on, this is such an affront that you drag the business on your social media platforms?

I am never more socially "on" than during the classic scenario where a new employee is brought from office to office to be introduced to everyone. That should be a super awkward thing, but for some reason, when I know I have a fixed 15 seconds or so to converse, and this person has never heard any of my bullshit before, I am good for at least 2 quality quips. I just need to figure out how to conduct all of my socialating in similar 15 second bursts.

She probably asked for some free stuff, got told to do one, and this is her revenge

She's working hard at being the poster child for batshit crazy, this is probably just a calculated step toward that end.

On the other hand the LA shop couldn't buy better publicity.

Caught all 3 on TV tonight.

Jason Bourne (Bourne) vs Robert McCall (Equalizer) vs Bryan Mills (Taken).

If you could only pick one to help you take revenge, who would you pick? I'd have to go with Bourne, younger and cooler moves.

But if we added John Wick, no question it would be John but he's "not real".

I remember reading Ludlum's "Bourne Identity" in the 80's (long before the series). Never read any of the others. I may have to re-read it again.

This has not been a good last 12 months for my family health-wise. From my mom's pancreas surgery, to my uncle's mysterious debilitating episode, to me getting COVID, to my dad's surprise quad bypass. Now my mom is back on the clock.

She's been having hearing problems out of one ear recently. Doctor did some checks, and saw she had something past her eardrum that was likely causing issues. Went to a specialist, and the diagnosis was "CSF otorrhea". Apparently the multiple ear infections she's had over her life weakened a bone in the roof of her inner ear, and it finally dissolved away and is now leaking spinal fluid into her inner ear.

He was a little (lot) more nuanced. Which, duh, it's a novel. And yeah, it's set in the 80's, unlike the films. And a lot more mentally damaged, especially in the 2nd book. The books have Bourne as a lot more of a spy/infiltrator.

There's been a bald eagle hanging around our neighborhood for the last couple of weeks. It's kindof funny/sad to watch people on local Facebook who would normally be indifferent/complain about/burn it with fire about the usual local animals fall all over themselves to talk about how majestic it is (it's always "majestic", too, or spectacular or something really over the top).

I remember when I was living in Alaska, the best place to see lots of bald eagles congregate together was the landfills. That was an interesting contrast.

Eagles absolutely loved when we spread manure on the farm. Bonus points if a dead cat or three were in the manure pit when it got pumped out!

I just decided that if I could live in a 10 second loop forever it would be as Barry Gibb with my jacket over my shoulder singing "you can tell by the way I use my walk, I'm a woman's man, no time to talk" in the Bee Gees video for Stayin' Alive. Damn he's fly in that.

I used to choose a Clint Eastwood cowboy clip, but points off for not having a beat playing behind him.

I think it was in this thread a couple of months ago I posted about how outrageous car rental prices were. Well, I saw a GMA story yesterday that explained why it's an actual thing and not just my poor ability to find deals.

Thanks to Covid, no one needed a rental car last year, so rental companies started selling off their fleets (up to 50% in some cases). This was further accelerated by the fact that used car sales went up, presumably because many people weren't exactly flush with cash to buy a new car. So rental stock was way down coming into 2021. Now that we can all travel again, more people than normal are looking to drive, rental companies are scrambling, BUT their ability to buy new car fleets has been stymied by slower new car production because of supply chain issues.

Hence, trying to rent an SUV for 9 days in August, I get prices routinely over $2K. So, I guess we'll be driving our own SUV and rationalizing it as still being fewer miles on the car after the trip than if Covid had never happened. In the meantime, I'll keep checking because who knows, maybe by late July prices will be better.

Non political question. Are they any other "Insert Group" Lives Matter flags?

I have seen the ones with the thin blue line and the thin red line before. I saw one with a thin yellow line the other day and got kind of nervous as to what that meant. I now know and if you did not know before that this is for tow truck drivers.

https://www.amazon.com/Emergency-Dis...s%2C288&sr=8-3

Upon further reflection on the site, I guess there are thin lines for other occupations. Who knew.

As we were heating up the oven (walled, 2 oven combo) last night for texas toast, some heating element coil (?) sparked, glowed and the oven started smoking. 1.5 small fire extinguishers later, it was put out.

The extinguishers left a lot of crap all over (but fair trade-off for sure) the kitchen area. Wipe, sweep, mop, tossed out some open food stuff lying around, did a couple loads in the dish washer, couple loads in the clothes washer (mats). Ended up eating soup vs spaghetti. Fun evening.

Going to check out at new ovens or maybe even an appliance 4-piece package so we can get a matching set (resale value). And buy new fire extinguishers.

My suggestion, have at least a couple fire extinguishers around. I'm not sure what would have happened without them handy.

Wow! You were lucky.

Great point about fire extinguishers. I've got one and it's about 20 years old, so perhaps useless. And although it can't be hard, I'd be wasting precious seconds trying to figure out how to use it while my house burns.

It was essentially pull out this plastic ring and then point and squeeze. Maybe buy a couple replacements (we bought 2 replacements for $25 and 1 bigger one for $50 at Home Depot) and then practice with your old one in the parking lot.

Small kitchen extinguishers are only good for about 15s of discharge. The medium ones a bit longer. As long as there's a charge they will work, but I think people underestimate how long they will spray.

Just got a call from my dad. He met with the heart surgeon today, and he's been cleared for any cardiovascular related activity he wants to pursue. Still isn't supposed to lift/pull/push much with his arms for a few more weeks until the breastbone finishes healing. Amazing that it has been just over one month since the quad bypass.

Fire extinguishers are pretty simple: PASS.
Pull the pin
Aim the nozzle (at the material that is burning, NOT the flames)
Squeeze the trigger
Sweep the nozzle back and forth.

Man it really sucks to be a Detroit pro sports fan these days.

I'm pretty sure the Tigers, Red Wings, and Pistons are all DFL right now in their conferences.

It's bad when the rebuilding Lions are gonna have to be the bright spot.

There was a neighbor lady when I was young that would always be the one to stop in with news of somebody dying. Whenever her van pulled in the driveway, the news would always be grim.

The 21st century version is now this woman's daughter. I think her Facebook page is almost all obituaries. She even posted news of my uncle's passing a month back. I'm pretty sure she never met my Uncle as he left the area before she was born.
