Plantana's Sekine Collects April Batting Honor
Monday, May 1st, 2090: Seasoned by several years of professional experience, 26-year-old Tokaji Sekine put together a solid offensive month for Plantana and was crowned April's top batter in the Continental League.

He batted .324 with 6 home runs, 18 RBIs and 22 runs scored.


RL's Premier Batter Picked
Monday, May 1st, 2090: Roberto Trevino battered Republic League pitchers all April and wound up taking home the Batter of the Month Award.

"I've been around FOOL-X long enough to know you really have to work hard day in and day out to be able to put up this kind of consistency," the 28-year-old Trevino told reporters. "I put in a lot of work, even on the days I might not take the field, and it's always nice when everything comes together for me like it did this last month."

In 25 games, Trevino hit .368 with 9 home runs, 22 RBIs and scored 22 runs.

CL's Best Starter is Quiñones
Monday, May 1st, 2090: Sergio Quiñones has made fans throughout FOOL-X take notice over the past month with an exceptional 6-0 record. No pitcher in the Continental League threw better in April, garnering him the Pitcher of the Month award today.

In 7 starts Quiñones compiled a 1.08 ERA, putting up a 6-0 record, striking out 44 and tossing 41.2 innings.


Delgado RL's #1 Pitcher in April
Monday, May 1st, 2090: Bartolo Delgado hasn't been around the big leagues long enough to know that youngsters shouldn't be winning Republic League Pitcher of the Month. But when you put up numbers like his, you're going to get some notice.

In April the New York starter earned a 4-0 mark in 6 starts. He threw 42 innings, struck out 37 and compiled a solid 2.57 ERA.

Randy Shelley Triumphs in CL Rookie Vote
Monday, May 1st, 2090: Randy Shelley earned Rookie of the Month honors in the Continental League for his exemplary performance in April.

The Manchester first baseman racked up 26 hits, clubbed 6 home runs, drove in 17 runs and tacked on 14 runs scored for good measure.

Monday, May 1st, 2090: The most productive Republic League rookie in April was Maricopa's center fielder Sam Jackson.

Last month he played in 26 games and hit .289 with 9 doubles, no triples, and 3 home runs. Jackson also scored 7 times and drove in 18 runs.

St Cloud's Hernández Top CL Batter in May
Thursday, June 1st, 2090: Raúl Hernández of the St Cloud Raindrops stood out in May with a .395 batting average against Continental League pitchers to land him the Batter of the Month award.

The 26-year-old second baseman totaled 8 home runs, 18 RBIs and 23 runs scored. He also chipped in 15 walks for a .467 on-base percentage.

In his season totals, Hernández has 11 home runs, .356 BA, .419 OBP, 26 RBIs and 40 runs scored. He has played in 53 games.


Super Month Nets Trevino #1 Batter Prize in RL
Thursday, June 1st, 2090: It's official. BNN writers have voted Roberto Trevino of the Waikiki Beach Boys the Republic League Batter of the Month award for May.

During the month he recorded a .355 average with 9 home runs, 27 RBIs and 23 runs scored.

Thus far this season in 51 games Trevino is batting .362 with 18 home runs, 49 RBIs and 45 runs scored. He has 77 hits in 213 at-bats.

Continental League Names #1 Pitcher in May
Thursday, June 1st, 2090: Raúl Peña nailed down May's Continental League Pitcher of the Month award today, adding pressure on Washington to get a deal done before the 30-year-old becomes a free agent.

Peña seems unfazed by the talk. "We get a deal done or we don't," he told reporters, "I'm not worrying about next year. Worrying about next year isn't what wins awards, you know?"

He fashioned a 5-0 record, reeled off 35 strikeouts, worked 38.1 innings and held batters to a .241 average for the month as he posted a 2.11 ERA.

In 11 starts this season, Peña has recorded 6 wins and absorbed no losses. He has pitched 64 innings, allowed 58 hits, struck out 57 and has a 2.67 ERA.


May's Starter of the Month Goes to Yi
Thursday, June 1st, 2090: Veteran Sang-hyuk Yi put together quite a successful stretch in May for the Cleveland Naps, earning himself the Republic League Pitcher of the Month award.

Yi racked up a 4-1 record in 6 starts, posting a 3.00 ERA over 42 innings and striking out 29.

Up to now Yi has recorded a record of 5-4. In 11 starts he has fanned 40 batters in 72.2 innings with a 3.84 ERA.

Continental League Names Rookie of Month
Thursday, June 1st, 2090: Ramiro Morán was toddling around on his tricycle when some of the guys he's playing against were in their prime, but the 24-year-old first baseman definitely knows how to get to first, second or beyond. Today he was chosen May's Continental League Rookie of the Month for his remarkable month of hitting.

In 29 games Morán batted .272 for London, slapping 28 hits in 103 at-bats with 4 home runs, drove in 16 runs and scored 9 times.

So far this season Morán is hitting .233 with 4 home runs.


RL Selects Rookie Star of the Month
Thursday, June 1st, 2090: A veritable toddler to the Republic League, Jeffrey Frost just sewed up the Rookie of the Month trophy for May.

Over the past month the 24-year-old right fielder for Waikiki hit .264 with 28 hits, 7 home runs and 23 RBI. He also logged 6 walks and compiled a .301 on-base percentage.

This year Frost is hitting .260 with 52 hits, 11 home runs, 39 RBIs and has scored 35 runs.

June's CL Batter of Month Award Announced
Saturday, July 1st, 2090: Washington third baseman Mario Tapia took home the Continental League Batter of the Month Trophy for June.

He put up some solid numbers, including a .352 batting average and .452 on-base percentage with 37 hits, 1 home run, 14 RBIs and 22 runs scored.

On the year Tapia is hitting .317 with 101 hits, 3 home runs, 24 RBIs, .416 OBP and has scored 60 runs.


Mercado Brings Home RL Batter of Month Honor
Saturday, July 1st, 2090: When guys like Cleveland's António Mercado win Batter of the Month awards, it just makes you feel good. In a productive June, the longtime Republic League veteran toyed with opposing pitchers all month long, collecting 41 hits in 110 at-bats.

The veteran center fielder hit for a .373 batting average and collected 9 home runs, 26 RBIs and 23 runs scored.

In his 2090 season totals, Mercado has 12 home runs, .283 BA, .357 OBP, 44 RBIs and 51 runs scored.

CL Pitcher of the Month Goes to Théorêt
Saturday, July 1st, 2090: It was a very good month for Léo-Pier Théorêt in June. The 37-year-old veteran starter for the Manchester Terriers outpitched everybody -- young and old -- to claim the Continental League Pitcher of the Month award earlier today.

Théorêt ran up a 5-1 record in his 7 starts during the month. In 41.1 innings he fanned 37 and recorded a 3.05 ERA.

In 21 starts this season Théorêt has chalked up a 8-5 record and a 4.22 ERA.


June's Pitcher of the Month Goes to Delgado
Saturday, July 1st, 2090: It's official!
Bartolo Delgado of the New York Legends is the Republic League Pitcher of the Month. In June he dominated the league with 3 wins and no losses in 6 starts. In 36.1 innings of work Delgado chalked up 33 strikeouts, 7 walks, a 2.48 ERA and held opposing hitters to a .219 batting average.

In 18 starts this season Delgado has recorded a 10-3 record and a 2.68 ERA.

Morán Picked CL's Top Newcomer
Saturday, July 1st, 2090: Ramiro Morán's eyes seem to light up whenever he sees the baseball. The young London first baseman has been hitting everything in sight for the better part of a month.

In June he was voted the Rookie of the Month Award.

During the month he hit .247 with 3 doubles, no triples and 1 home run. Morán also scored 4 times and drove in 9 runs.

Batting .238 to date, Morán has 5 home runs and 32 RBIs.


Las Vegas Center Fielder June's #1 Rookie
Saturday, July 1st, 2090: Randy Noel is still a bit shy, but then, who could blame the newest Republic League Rookie of the Month honoree? He hasn't been around the league long enough to fully know the ropes yet, despite the fact that he's putting up veteran-like numbers.

In June the Las Vegas hitter tagged opposing pitching for a .298 average with 25 hits, 3 home runs and 9 RBIs.

For the year Noel is batting .249 with 62 hits and 6 home runs. He has scored 31 times and driven in 24.

CL Best Hitter Award to St Louis's Chester Ford
Tuesday, August 1st, 2090: Beach balls were coming in at Chester Ford in July and he banged, bashed and blasted them all over the park, putting up a .406 batting average and hauling in the Continental League Batter of the Month trophy.

The 30-year-old St Louis third baseman collected 41 hits last month in 25 games. He put up 5 home runs, 13 RBIs and 31 runs scored. Ford also drew 15 walks and compiled a .500 on-base percentage.

This season Ford is batting at a .327 clip with 15 home runs and 55 RBIs.


Bungay Crowned Batter of the Month in July
Tuesday, August 1st, 2090: In July, Ann Arbor Wolverines third baseman Vincent Bungay claimed the Republic League Batter of the Month award.

The 30-year-old swung with confidence, hitting .336 with 4 home runs, 20 RBIs and 23 runs scored.

For the season, Bungay is hitting at a .276 clip with 14 home runs, 61 RBIs and has scored 68 runs. He has 113 hits, 54 walks and a .371 on-base percentage.

Tuesday, August 1st, 2090: Ramiro Morán earned July's Rookie of the Month honors in the Continental League for last month's performance. The boyish London first baseman might be wet behind the ears, but he's proving that he has what it takes to play at this level.

Morán hit .264 with no home runs, 16 RBIs and 9 runs scored this past month on his way to winning the award.

Morán is hitting .244 in 2090 with 48 RBIs and 5 home runs.


Silva Voted July's #1 Newcomer
Tuesday, August 1st, 2090: Youngster Rafael Silva emerged as the latest Republic League Rookie of the Month today. The young man from Ann Arbor deserved the honor, batting .333 with 2 home runs and 9 RBI. Is the month of July a harbinger of things to come or just a fluke? We'll find out someday, but for now, we'll just let Silva enjoy the limelight.

Estrada Snags CL Batting Honor in August
Friday, September 1st, 2090: In the last year of his deal with St Louis, Ángel Estrada has created some waves by winning August's Continental League Batter of the Month title today.

He put up a solid .324 batting average with 9 home runs, 29 RBIs and 21 runs scored. He also worked CL pitchers for 17 walks and a .416 on-base percentage.

If he keeps churning out numbers like these, the 33-year-old is sure to draw some attention, when contract time rolls around.

Thus far this year Estrada has hit .274 with 25 home runs and 88 RBIs.


RL's #1 Batter Announced
Friday, September 1st, 2090: Tsuyoshi Yamada of the New York Legends certainly made a resounding impression on the Republic League pitching corps in August and today reaped the reward as the league's best batter for the period.

The first baseman put up some good offensive figures as he hit .327 with 10 home runs, 25 RBIs and 21 runs scored.

Friday, September 1st, 2090: Eric Pederson was on top of the world in August, capping it off with the Continental League Pitcher of the Month honors.

The St Louis starter was superb in 6 starts with 5 wins and 1 loss, 42.1 innings pitched, 32 strikeouts and a fine 1.70 ERA.

This season Pederson has a 11-10 record with a 3.08 ERA in 27 starts.


Rivera Voted Best RL Pitcher in August
Friday, September 1st, 2090: A 5-0 record with a 3.13 ERA is a pretty good month for most any pitcher. The Republic League thought it was worthy of an award and named Vicente Rivera, starter for the Ann Arbor Wolverines, August's Pitcher of the Month.

He also held the opposition to a .296 average while posting 33 strikeouts in 37.1 innings.

This season Rivera has 11 wins and 8 losses and a 4.15 ERA.

Friday, September 1st, 2090: This month Randy Shelley bashed, belted and battered just about every Continental League pitcher in his path as he put up some substantial numbers to win the Rookie of the Week honors.

Day in and day out throughout August, the Manchester first baseman punished opposing teams with base hits, finishing with a .255 average. Shelley went 25-98 in 27 games with 4 home runs, 17 RBIs, and 14 runs scored.

This year Shelley is batting .222 with 18 home runs. He has scored 68 runs and driven in 67.


August Sensation RL's Best Rookie
Friday, September 1st, 2090: In August Jim Bater swatted his way to the Rookie of the Month Award in the Republic League by putting up a .281 batting average.

The Maricopa Rattlers second baseman also racked up 27 hits, 2 home runs, 10 RBIs and scored 13 runs.

Hubbard Takes CL's Best Bat Award
Sunday, October 1st, 2090: Emerson Hubbard capped off a fine September by being named the Continental League Batter of the Month today.

Washington's center fielder hit .368 while collecting 6 home runs, 24 RBIs and scoring 22 runs. He also drew 7 walks to post an OBP of .400.

For the year Hubbard is batting .289 with 34 home runs, 140 RBIs and 108 runs scored.


Dana Barrett Named Best RL Batter in September
Sunday, October 1st, 2090: To survive in the bigs, you've got to be a scrapper like Dana Barrett. It never pays to take a day off from the batting cages or to shrug off the advice of the hitting coach. It all paid off today as Spring's designated hitter pinned down the Republic League Batter of the Month trophy today.

He hit .336 in September collecting 8 home runs, 25 RBIs and 25 runs scored.

This year Barrett is hitting .298 with 38 home runs.

Freedom Hurler Named CL's #1 Starter
Sunday, October 1st, 2090: Hipólito Serpa really tore up the Continental League this past month. He went 3-1 in September and won the Pitcher of the Month award.

In 6 starts he struck out 30 in 40.1 innings with a 1.34 ERA.

In 32 starts this season Serpa has registered a 13-12 record and a 3.61 ERA.


Shaffer Collects RL Pitching Award
Sunday, October 1st, 2090: Doug Shaffer was the anchor in the Portland bullpen last month and snatched up the Republic League Pitcher of the Month honors for September. The 27-year-old is in the prime of his career and pitching like he intends to stay around baseball for quite some time to come.

He threw 18 innings over 15 relief appearances and collected a 2-1 record with 20 strikeouts and 9 saves while etching his 2.00 ERA.

Running the numbers on Shaffer for the year, he has made 70 relief appearances, recorded 39 saves and compiled a 6-8 won-lost mark with a 2.36 ERA. In pitching 80 innings, he has totaled 87 strikeouts and 21 walks.

Davis Picked September's Best Newcomer
Sunday, October 1st, 2090: Manchester's John Davis was voted September's Continental League Rookie of the Month by baseball officials after putting together a fine month-long performance.

The 26-year-old center fielder really attacked the baseball, putting up 30 hits, 4 home runs, 14 RBIs and a .259 average while playing in 28 games.

For the season Davis is batting .246 with 164 hits and 16 home runs. He has scored 82 times and batted in 74.


RL Rookie Hittin' on All Cylinders in September
Sunday, October 1st, 2090: Jeffrey Frost wreaked havoc on Republic League pitching last month and led the charge for the Rookie of the Month Award.
