1965 Expansion Draft

St. George folded and St. Louis was retired.

Two franchises, Seattle and St. Petersburg (FL) will be taking their place in the RL for the 1966 season. A 35-round expansion draft (each team gets one pick per round) will take place now, on October 1, 1965 in-game.

No team may lose more than 6 players in the draft.

Dark Cloud will be taking over St. Petersburg. Seattle is an AI team for right now.

No shock. I hope Seattle signs him to a big contract. He is a FA to be (BTW, not sure if the AI takes that into consideration--although I don't know if you would want to go onto the AI team and sign him to an extension).

I will miss having him in the lineup. And DC, you must be pissed. lol

I'm downright irate. I don't know if the AI will bother to resign him, might be a wasted pick for them. Oh well. Screw them. Lemme get this show on the road...

Heh...

Yeah, as for signing him, I was just thinking this might be a situation where you want to protect the AI from itself, as of course he would be re-signed by normal GMs, but not sure if the AI does a "renegotiate" check at this point of the offseason.

Not that I would mind him being out there, of course...

I can't see the available list, of course, but that seems like a solid pick. Pales next to Darby, but not much to do about that.

Yeah, I think I will protect them from themselves, just for the sake of consistency and such. I extended him for another year at the same rate as this year.

Now Darby's pissed. He wanted a 3-year, $40 M deal.

BTW, I actually like the Sexton pick better than the Wallace pick, not that it matters back to back.

That said, 30 players was a good number. Decent talent out there, but nothing so overwhelming to where it's almost not even fair.

Corfield is solid. Christian is the first prospect taken.

And a solid free agent class with the St. Louis and St. George players out there and a lot of cap room. Yeah, it's a solid way to start as a franchise.

Speaking of which, have you tried posting a message in OT to see if anyone was interested in taking it over?

I hadn't done that yet. I wanted to get the team built first, mostly for simplicity purposes. Two humans doing an expansion draft might be a disaster unless coordinated perfectly. But I think after this is over, I'll go in and see if anyone might want to jump in head first right now with us. Especially now that the game is out...

C prospect with defensive ability. Seattle picks its cleanup hitter. Evans has 31, 31, 27 and 21 HRs the past four seasons. He and Darby are a nice pair in the middle of the lineup.

Walker is close to ready for the bigs. NY's #6 overall prospect.

Nakamura is also a AAAA guy who is close to ready. Probably shouldn't start this year, but maybe next year. Three from Ann Arbor already. #10 ANN prospect.

No suprise with Evans. I couldn't re-sign him as he wanted 10 mil a year. Guess he won't be getting that money regardless now

Chuck Allen is solid. Didn't break into my top prospects, but a good pickup still. Wow, three from my squad now.

Ann Arbor gets hit again, #4 now. Lopez is decent, but is probably long term just a low grade starter or a career backup. #9 ANN prospect

Ah, you're Valdosta, Alan? I forgot. I am sure DC will sign Evans to a one-year holdover deal, too.

Yeah, that is what I meant about Evans not getting the money he wanted. If I could have signed him to a 1 year hold over I would have. No way I could afford 10 mil for him.

Armstrong is a good power hitter and he's ready now. #5 NY prospect.

Gonzalez is a better prospect than Allen. Also didn't break into Boston's prospect list. He has control issues that will keep him in the minors until that develops, but he could end up a solid #2 or #3.

Yup, same with me and Darby. I guess if St. Pete does well, the new owner owes us.

For real. This team is really sweetened up for someone to take it. They're expansion in name only.

Murphy is an interesting prospect. Not sure if I like the dual okay CON and POW, but GAP is through the roof, he can defend decently well, and he can run. Second player from HAR, didn't make muns' prospect list.

Dinsdale is the first player from LBI. 12-13 last year, 3.38 ERA, 244 K in 233 IP. That's the good. The bad? His ratings, 84 STU, 50 MOV, 50 CON. Look out batters!

Seattle take's Valdosta's starting 3B, probably with Alan's blessing. Decent player, terrific GAP ability. .263-9-62 last year.

St. Pete takes my cleanup hitter, as I planned. I now I have money available for spending in free agency. I also have a huge hole in my lineup. Gibbs is one of the best (even at $13 M per year). 90 HRs the past four years--and I think he underachieved. Fourth player from COL.

Decent speed and defense, but Shields is a fringe major league with maybe moderate power. Horrible pick for St. Pete. NY's third player.

Huge contract, huge ability. Roberts is one of the league's best. Boston probably left him open for salary relief like I did with Gibbs. Second Boston player. Roberts had an awful year last year (by his standards), but he hit .280-33-90 two years ago.

heh, I got it switched around. You're St.P and the AI is SEA. Okay, then you owe Alan and me big.

And, yeah, one year is nothing too bad to go with, especially with an open cap of roster to fill.
