Chicago Comets- St. Petersburg Pelicans Trade

Chicago Comets send SP Bob Halpin and SS Hector Martinez

For

St. Petersburg Pelicans 3B Nick Paul, 1B Ben Gibbs, 2B Marvin Shields, SP Matt Ladner, SP Cullen Mitchell and CF Greg Reid.

Chicago's new guys:

1b Ben Gibbs- is the corner stone to the deal and should be the clog in the middle of Chicago's newly formed offense. Loved the pick up here.

2nd- Marving shields is an ok guy to have on the ML roster and should be a good glove coming off the bench.

3B- Nick Paul- This guy should be able to come in and win a starting job. Can hit for average and has a good golve at both 3rd and SS.

CF- Greg Reid. Reid given full time status is an interesting guy. Has the potential to hit 25 bombs and drive in 80 runs.

SP- Matt Lander- Had a decent year in AAA last season and should be able to compete for a starting spot in the rotation.

SP- Cullen Mitchell- Had a decent last year in Baltimore but I think he has over performed. I dont think he will factor much this year.

St. Petersburg Pelicans New guys:

SP Bob Halpin is a good young pitcher that should be a 15 game winner year in and year out for a good number of years. Easy to see why he was the main piece for the Pelicans.

SS- Hector Martinez- With the Pelicans needing INF help Hector was thrown in the mix. He has had 2 back to back decent seasons hitting 269 and 278 respectively and and has a good glove at first, 2nd 3rd and SS. Good pick up.

Overall I thought that the deal was good for both teams with the slight edge going to Chicago simply because they havent done a whole lot and here they gained 4 decent players that should start/ play a ton right away.

St. Petersburg on the other hand sheds some salary picks up infield help and gets a Young good Starting Pitcher in return.
