CL Presents Batter of Month Trophy to Nakai
Sunday, May 1st, 2089: Yoriyuki Nakai picked up the top batter prize in the Continental League for April.

The Oshawa right fielder hit .329 with 8 home runs, 22 RBIs and 14 runs scored. He also drew 11 walks to post an OBP of .412.


Gonzáles Takes Best Bat Award in April
Sunday, May 1st, 2089: There's nothing like putting up good, solid numbers in the last year of your contract. Today Félix Gonzáles helped his contract negotiations by nabbing April's Republic League Batter of the Month honors.

The Waikiki first baseman put together a .368 batting average with 8 home runs, 22 RBIs and 18 runs scored.

Someone will surely be opening up the vault this offseason if Gonzáles continues at this brisk pace.

Continental League Names #1 Pitcher in April
Sunday, May 1st, 2089: Veteran Larry Richter put together quite a successful stretch in April for the St Louis Hops, earning himself the Continental League Pitcher of the Month award.

Richter racked up a 3-0 record in 5 starts, posting a 2.37 ERA over 30.1 innings and striking out 30.


RL Announces Best Pitcher for April
Sunday, May 1st, 2089: Bryan Jennings hasn't been around the big leagues long enough to know that youngsters shouldn't be winning Republic League Pitcher of the Month. But when you put up numbers like his, you're going to get some notice.

In April the Cleveland starter earned a 3-0 mark in 6 starts. He threw 39.2 innings, struck out 26 and compiled a solid 1.13 ERA.

CL Selects Rookie Star of the Month
Sunday, May 1st, 2089: Jorge Reyes was toddling around on his tricycle when some of the guys he's playing against were in their prime, but the 23-year-old left fielder definitely knows how to get to first, second or beyond. Today he was chosen April's Continental League Rookie of the Month for his remarkable month of hitting.

In 23 games Reyes batted .313 for St Louis, slapping 30 hits in 96 at-bats with 2 home runs, drove in 14 runs and scored 20 times.

Sunday, May 1st, 2089: A veritable toddler to the Republic League, Dan Iverson just sewed up the Rookie of the Month trophy for April.

Over the past month the 22-year-old third baseman for Spring hit .302 with 29 hits, 5 home runs and 13 runs batted in. He also logged 5 walks and compiled a .340 on-base percentage.

Sekine Claims CL Batter of the Month Award
Wednesday, June 1st, 2089: Seasoned by several years of professional experience, 25-year-old Tokaji Sekine put together a solid offensive month for Plantana and was crowned May's top batter in the Continental League.

He batted .470 with 10 home runs, 16 RBIs and 24 runs scored.



This year Sekine is hitting .377 with 81 hits, 19 home runs, 35 RBIs and has scored 38 runs.


RL Best Hitter Trophy Goes to López
Wednesday, June 1st, 2089: Juan López battered Republic League pitchers all May and wound up taking home the Batter of the Month Award.

"I've been around FOOL-X long enough to know you really have to work hard day in and day out to be able to put up this kind of consistency," the 28-year-old López told reporters. "I put in a lot of work, even on the days I might not take the field, and it's always nice when everything comes together for me like it did this last month."

In 29 games, López hit .361 with 9 home runs, 26 RBIs and scored 21 runs.

This season López is hitting .341 with 16 home runs.

Reliever Hernández Chosen May's Best in CL
Wednesday, June 1st, 2089: Anastasio Hernández has been around the league long enough to know that relievers are often overlooked. That has never stopped him from doing what he does best -- and he did it extremely well in May and stole away with the Continental League Pitcher of the Month award.

The Banana Sluggers bullpen ace collected 9 saves and 19 strikeouts in 17.1 innings, holding the opposition to a .143 average and posting a 2.08 ERA and a 2-0 record.

This year Hernández has 16 saves in 26 relief appearances with a 4-1 record and 2.54 ERA.


Pitcher of the Month Named in RL
Wednesday, June 1st, 2089: It's official!
Michael Odom of the Spring Lions is the Republic League Pitcher of the Month. In May he dominated the league with 4 wins and no losses in 6 starts. In 34 innings of work Odom chalked up 40 strikeouts, 14 walks, a 2.12 ERA and held opposing hitters to a .179 batting average.

So far this season, Odom has logged a 6-1 record with a 2.91 ERA. He has started 11 games, hurled 65 innings and registered 76 strikeouts and 26 walks.

CL Rookie Star Shines
Wednesday, June 1st, 2089: Youngster Jorge Reyes emerged as the latest Continental League Rookie of the Month today. The young man from St Louis deserved the honor, batting .324 with 1 home run and 10 RBI. Is the month of May a harbinger of things to come or just a fluke? We'll find out someday, but for now, we'll just let Reyes enjoy the limelight.

In his season totals Reyes has 3 home runs and a .319 batting average.


Yoshida Named RL's Best Rookie
Wednesday, June 1st, 2089: Mushanokoji Yoshida earned May's Rookie of the Month honors in the Republic League for last month's performance. The boyish Portland left fielder might be wet behind the ears, but he's proving that he has what it takes to play at this level.

Yoshida hit .308 with 1 home run, 14 RBIs and 19 runs scored this past month on his way to winning the award.

This season in 51 games, Yoshida has hit at a .310 clip with 72 hits, 1 home run, 22 RBIs and 38 runs scored.

Friday, July 1st, 2089: June's Batter of the Month has been chosen by the Continental League. This month's trophy was awarded to the Havana catcher, Shinsui Kono.

He starred by hitting .333 with a .408 on-base percentage, totaled 28 hits in 84 at-bats, 6 home runs, 24 RBIs and 17 runs scored.

This season Kono is hitting .280 with 75 hits, 17 home runs, 53 RBIs, scored 51 runs and played in 73 games.

Friday, July 1st, 2089: Though his face is weathered and his hands are calloused, António Mercado can still get it done in FOOL-X. In fact, the 35-year-old left fielder for Cleveland was named the Republic League Batter of the Month today after putting up an impressive performance at the plate.

In June he batted .337 with 7 home runs, 27 RBIs and 21 runs scored.

So far this year Mercado is hitting .329 with 15 home runs.

CL Selects Little June's Top Starter
Friday, July 1st, 2089: There was nobody finer on the mound in June and Pat Little cruised to the Continental League Pitcher of the Month award today.

He was 5-1 with a 2.37 ERA while piling up 28 strikeouts in 38 innings and holding opposing hitters to a .178 batting average.

In 16 starts this season Little has fashioned a 11-3 record and a 4.04 ERA.


RL Picks June's Top Pitcher
Friday, July 1st, 2089: Garland Graves's been around the league long enough to appreciate the honor he received today. After going 5-0 in June, the 32-year-old New York hurler has been named Republic League Pitcher of the Month.

He fanned 27 in 47.1 innings, logged an ERA of 1.52 and allowed opponents to hit .229 against him.

This year Graves has posted a record of 10 wins and no losses with a 2.54 ERA. He has appeared in 17 games and struck out 81 in 120.1 innings.

Friday, July 1st, 2089: Jorge Reyes is still a bit shy, but then, who could blame the newest Continental League Rookie of the Month honoree? He hasn't been around the league long enough to fully know the ropes yet, despite the fact that he's putting up veteran-like numbers.

In June the St Louis hitter tagged opposing pitching for a .358 average with 39 hits, 1 home run and 11 RBIs.

Reyes is batting .332 this year with 4 home runs, 35 RBIs and 61 runs scored. He has 105 hits in 316 at-bats.


RL Names Newcomer of the Month
Friday, July 1st, 2089: Mushanokoji Yoshida's eyes seem to light up whenever he sees the baseball. The young Portland left fielder has been hitting everything in sight for the better part of a month.

In June he was voted the Rookie of the Month Award.

During the month he hit .325 with 8 doubles, 2 triples and 1 home run. Yoshida also scored 12 times and drove in 14 runs.

So far this season Yoshida has hit .315 with 2 home runs, 36 RBIs and and scored 50 times.

St Cloud's Saucedo Acclaimed Best CL Hitter
Monday, August 1st, 2089: Juan Saucedo received the Continental League Batter of the Month trophy earlier today for his efforts at the plate this last month.

"He might be getting older," St Cloud's manager told reporters, "But he's been around long enough to know what it takes to put a stretch such as this together... and he doesn't keep that to himself. He's always talking to the younger guys in the clubhouse helping 'em any way they'll let him. Juan's value to our team goes farther than the numbers he puts up on the field."

To win the honor Saucedo put up a .305 batting average, 7 home runs, 22 RBIs and scored 19 times in July.

This season in 102 games, Saucedo has hit at a .282 clip with 98 hits, 19 home runs, 72 RBIs and 67 runs scored.


RL's Premier Batter Picked
Monday, August 1st, 2089: Gary Sisson was declared the Republic League Batter of the Month today. Maricopa's first baseman stroked 32 hits in 86 at-bats for a .372 average in July.

He also hit 9 home runs, drove in 27 and scored 17 runs.

Sisson is hitting .242 this year with 20 home runs, 65 RBIs and 46 runs scored. He has 84 hits in 347 at-bats, 18 walks and a .290 on-base percentage. Sisson has played in 105 games.

Meinertzhagen Is July's Top Starter
Monday, August 1st, 2089: The best pitcher this past month in the Continental League was Brian Meinertzhagen of the Havana Banana Sluggers. He really razzle-dazzled league hitters, finishing July with a standout 4-0 record and 2.61 ERA.

The Banana Sluggers hurler made 6 starts and surrendered 34 hits in 41.1 innings. He struck out 25 and walked 12.

On the season Meinertzhagen has compiled a 10-7 mark with a 4.40 ERA in 21 starts. In pitching 131 innings he has 100 strikeouts and 46 walks while limiting the opposition to a .261 batting average.


RL Top Pitcher Award for July to Romero
Monday, August 1st, 2089: Júlio Romero was the anchor in the Cleveland bullpen last month and snatched up the Republic League Pitcher of the Month honors for July. The 28-year-old is in the prime of his career and pitching like he intends to stay around baseball for quite some time to come.

He threw 14.2 innings over 11 relief appearances and collected a 2-0 record with 17 strikeouts and 8 saves while etching his 3.07 ERA.

In 46 relief appearances this season Romero has chalked up 26 saves with 67 strikeouts in 52 innings, 5-4 won-lost mark and a 2.94 earned run average.

CL Names Rookie of the Month
Monday, August 1st, 2089: In the month of July Jorge Reyes hit the ball hard, often and with authority and was honored as the Continental League Rookie of the Month.

He did it in standout fashion as the St Louis's left fielder hit .281 with 3 home runs and 11 RBIs while scoring 15 runs.

In 100 games this season Reyes is batting .320 with 132 hits and 7 home runs. He has scored 76 runs and driven in 46.


Yoshida Named Newcomer of the Month
Monday, August 1st, 2089: Mushanokoji Yoshida of the Portland Axemen captured the Rookie of the Month honors for July in the Republic League.

Posting a .333 average last month, he collected 44 hits, 1 home run, 10 RBIs and 19 runs scored.

So far this year, Yoshida is batting .320 with 3 home runs and 46 RBIs.

August's CL Batter of Month Award Announced
Thursday, September 1st, 2089: Claudio Salamanca earned August's Batter of the Month honors in the Continental League by reeling off a .424 average, going 42 for 99 with 7 home runs, 22 RBIs and 18 runs scored.

The soon-to-be free agent was hitting with great urgency in an effort to bolster his asking price in the Manchester clubhouse and around the rest of the league.

Thus far this season Salamanca is hitting .310 with 24 home runs, 71 RBIs and 90 runs scored. He has 141 hits in 455 at-bats and has played in 126 games.


Ben Bradley is August's #1 Hitter in RL
Thursday, September 1st, 2089: August's Batter of the Month has been announced by the Republic League. This month's trophy was presented to the Ann Arbor right fielder, Ben Bradley.

He starred by hitting .297 with a .363 on-base percentage, totaled 33 hits in 111 at-bats, 12 home runs, 30 RBIs and scored 26 runs.

In 133 games Bradley is hitting .285 this season with 147 hits, 32 home runs, 90 RBIs, 45 walks, .344 OBP and has scored 81 runs.

Banana Sluggers Starter Wins CL Pitching Award
Thursday, September 1st, 2089: Whether Eric Pederson stays in Havana beyond this season remains to be seen, but while he's here he's making the most of it. In August the 33-year-old certainly pulled out all the stops by winning the Continental League Pitcher of the Month award.

He put up some fancy numbers with a 4-2 record and and an ERA of 2.23. In 44.1 innings he struck out 33, surrendered 30 hits, 9 walks and proved to be a solid performer in 6 starts last month.

This year Pederson has compiled a 12-8 record with a 3.62 ERA.


Silva Wins RL Top Pitcher Honors
Thursday, September 1st, 2089: The Republic League announced today that Claudio Silva has been chosen the league's Pitcher of the Month. The Ann Arbor starter had everything working for him last month as he glided to a 6-0 record.

In August Silva chalked up a 1.47 ERA in 43 innings with 33 strikeouts and 8 walks.

In 26 starts this season Silva has registered a 11-11 record and a 3.80 ERA.

Curry Selected August's Top Newcomer
Thursday, September 1st, 2089: Craig Curry was named the top rookie in the Continental League for his outstanding performance last month.

In August, the St Cloud third baseman posted a .362 average while racking up 38 hits, 6 home runs and 21 RBIs.

This season Curry is batting at a .243 clip with 20 home runs and 74 RBIs.


Great Month Gets RL Top Rookie Trophy
Thursday, September 1st, 2089: José Flores of the Las Vegas Wildcats has been selected the top Rookie in the Republic League.

In August he had 31 hits, 10 home runs, 19 RBIs, and 21 runs scored. He hit .304 with a .372 OBP.

Flores is presently hitting at a .234 pace with 29 home runs and 55 RBIs. He has played in 119 games and scored 76 times.

Hubbard Wins CL Prize, Named Best Hitter in September
Saturday, October 1st, 2089: Emerson Hubbard of the Mullets hit .408 in September with 16 home runs, 36 RBIs and 32 runs scored to capture a majority of votes for the Continental League Batter of the Month trophy.

The 26-year-old is in the last year of his contract and will undoubtedly use these numbers to try and bring in a huge pay raise.

Currently Hubbard has 35 home runs and a .274 batting average.


Flores Wins RL's Best Bat Award
Saturday, October 1st, 2089: Today Raúl Flores was voted Republic League Batter of the Month for October. During the month the 30-year-old Maricopa left fielder compiled a .531 batting average.

Most importantly for the Rattlers though, he also posted 5 home runs, 28 RBIs and 23 runs scored.

So far this season Flores has 12 home runs and a .394 batting average.

Reliever Claims CL Pitching Award
Saturday, October 1st, 2089: Edgardo Martínez was pure magic coming out of the Freedom bullpen in September. For his outstanding performance, he picked up the Continental League Pitcher of the Month award.

Martínez posted a 3-2 mark and a 2.12 ERA in 13 relief appearances. In 17 innings, he allowed 16 hits, totaled 7 saves with 18 strikeouts and 2 walks.

For the year Martínez has nailed down 40 saves. In 84.1 innings he has fanned 102 batters and walked 16. His record is 4-8 with a 2.56 ERA and the opposition is batting .271 against him.


Naps Romero Wins RL Best Hurler Honor
Saturday, October 1st, 2089: The elite pitcher in the Republic League this month was Cleveland reliever Júlio Romero. He won the league's Best Pitcher Award for September by saving 8 games in 10 save opportunities.

During the period Romero also had 3 wins and 1 loss. The Naps relief specialist had 17 strikeouts and 6 walks in 17.1 innings, permitted 13 base hits and compiled a 3.63 ERA.

Season-to-date in 73 relief appearances Romero has rung up 43 saves. He has 97 strikeouts and 18 walks in 81.1 innings while registering a 3.10 ERA and a 9-6 won-lost record. Opposing teams have hit .210 against him.

Reyes Grades Out as September's Top Rookie
Saturday, October 1st, 2089: The Continental League made the official announcement today. The Rookie of the Month award went to Jorge Reyes of St Louis. He was named the best rookie in September.

Last month the 24-year-old Hops left fielder played in 25 games and hit .371 with 11 doubles, 1 triple and 1 home run. Reyes also scored 23 times and drove in 10 runs.

Thus far this year Reyes has hit .315 with 10 home runs and 68 RBIs.

Saturday, October 1st, 2089: In September, Ken Little had an exceptional month at the plate and hit his way to the Republic League Rookie of the Month award.

Last month the 26-year-old Waikiki third baseman played in 25 games and hit .313 with 3 doubles, no triples and 9 home runs. Little also scored 18 times and drove in 21 runs.

Little is batting at a .216 pace this season, picking up 108 hits in 501 at-bats with 35 home runs, 83 RBIs and 64 runs scored.

File is up. We'll do the playoffs tomorrow morning. The file is a bigger one but I figured out why. Manchester gave me the new jerseys and all his players are included. Plus a couple good FA moves in last few seasons. We should be back to normal size next week.
