CL's Top Hitter Announced
Tuesday, May 1st, 2164: When guys like Cleveland's Craig Ray win Batter of the Month awards, it just makes you feel good. In a productive April, the longtime Continental League veteran toyed with opposing pitchers all month long, collecting 39 hits in 109 at-bats.

The veteran right fielder hit for a .358 batting average and collected 11 home runs, 27 RBIs and 26 runs scored.


Rodríguez Takes Best Bat Award in April
Tuesday, May 1st, 2164: Seasoned by several years of professional experience, 28-year-old Tomás Rodríguez put together a solid offensive month for Colorado and was crowned April's top batter in the Republic League.

He batted .427 with 5 home runs, 21 RBIs and 26 runs scored.

April's Top Starter is Hamada
Tuesday, May 1st, 2164: Veteran Tomiji Hamada put together quite a successful stretch in April for the Noblesville Millers, earning himself the Continental League Pitcher of the Month award.

Hamada racked up a 4-2 record in 6 starts, posting a 3.03 ERA over 38.2 innings and striking out 30.


RL Selects Guzmán April's Top Starter
Tuesday, May 1st, 2164: Gabriel Guzmán's been around the league long enough to appreciate the honor he received today. After going 4-0 in April, the 33-year-old Hammersmith hurler has been named Republic League Pitcher of the Month.

He fanned 11 in 35.2 innings, logged an ERA of 1.77 and allowed opponents to hit .234 against him.

Continental League Names Rookie of Month
Tuesday, May 1st, 2164: Jim McDermid earned April's Rookie of the Month honors in the Continental League for last month's performance. The boyish Cleveland second baseman might be wet behind the ears, but he's proving that he has what it takes to play at this level.

McDermid hit .429 with 7 home runs, 16 RBIs and 22 runs scored this past month on his way to winning the award.


RL Selects Rookie Star of the Month
Tuesday, May 1st, 2164: Dave Miner was toddling around on his tricycle when some of the guys he's playing against were in their prime, but the 23-year-old center fielder definitely knows how to get to first, second or beyond. Today he was chosen April's Republic League Rookie of the Month for his remarkable month of hitting.

In 18 games Miner batted .345 for Hammersmith, slapping 29 hits in 84 at-bats with 2 home runs, drove in 12 runs and scored 13 times.

McDermid Takes CL's Best Bat Trophy
Friday, June 1st, 2164: For a rookie just breaking in, Jim McDermid certainly put together a successful month. It was good enough to win the CL Batter of the Month award for May.

The 24-year-old second baseman for the Cleveland Cyclones hit .438 with 9 home runs, 24 RBIs and 22 runs scored.

So far this season, McDermid has recorded a .433 batting average with 81 hits, 16 home runs, 40 RBIs, 44 runs scored and a .476 OBP.


Republic League Selects May's Best Batter
Friday, June 1st, 2164: Ramón Morín battered Republic League pitchers all May and wound up taking home the Batter of the Month Award.

"I've been around Front Office Offseason League long enough to know you really have to work hard day in and day out to be able to put up this kind of consistency," the 28-year-old Morín told reporters. "I put in a lot of work, even on the days I might not take the field, and it's always nice when everything comes together for me like it did this last month."

In 26 games, Morín hit .340 with 8 home runs, 23 RBIs and scored 27 runs.

This season Morín is batting .350 with 11 home runs.

Winter Wolves Hebert Named CL's Best Pitcher
Friday, June 1st, 2164: George Hebert took a much-deserved turn in the spotlight earlier today as he accepted the Continental League Pitcher of the Month award for May.

The 25-year-old Winter Wolves starter is a relative newcomer to the league, but nonetheless racked up an impressive 4-0 won-lost record in 5 starts. This month he fanned 31 batters in 35.2 innings and compiled a 3.79 ERA.

This year Hebert has a 6-2 record and a 4.22 ERA.


Trevino Wins RL Top Pitcher Award
Friday, June 1st, 2164: António Trevino is at the zenith of his career and today he was selected as the Republic League Pitcher of the Month for May.

He made 10 relief appearances for Toronto last month, throwing 15 innings and collecting 4 saves, a 4-0 record, 19 strikeouts and a 2.40 ERA.

Trevino has collected 10 saves for the year with 30 strikeouts and 5 walks in 24.1 innings while registering a 2.22 ERA and a 5-0 won-lost record.

McDermid Selected May's Top CL Rookie
Friday, June 1st, 2164: Youngster Jim McDermid emerged as the latest Continental League Rookie of the Month today. The young man from Cleveland deserved the honor, batting .438 with 9 home runs and 24 runs batted in. Is the month of May a harbinger of things to come or just a fluke? We'll find out someday, but for now, we'll just let McDermid enjoy the limelight.

Currently McDermid is hitting .433 and has collected 16 home runs, 40 RBIs and scored 44 times, while playing in 51 games.


Terwilliger Top of His Class in May
Friday, June 1st, 2164: A veritable toddler to the Republic League, Richard Terwilliger just sewed up the Rookie of the Month trophy for May.

Over the past month the 22-year-old catcher for Hartford hit .372 with 29 hits, 1 home run and 7 runs batted in. He also logged 3 walks and compiled a .386 on-base percentage.

This season Terwilliger is swinging the bat at a .329 rate with 49 hits in 149 at-bats. To date he has hit 3 home runs, scored 20 runs and driven in 15.

Moreno Crowned Top CL Hitter in June
Sunday, July 1st, 2164: It was a good month for Napa Valley Winemakers third baseman Luis Moreno, June's Continental League Batter of the Month.

Moreno starred by hitting .347 with a .415 on-base percentage. He totaled 33 hits in 95 at-bats, 10 home runs, 18 RBIs and scored 21 runs.

This season Moreno is batting .281 with 20 home runs. His totals include 35 RBIs and 49 runs scored.

Sunday, July 1st, 2164: Tomás Rodríguez had quite a month with the bat in June and the Colorado left fielder was crowned Republic League Batter of the Month for his outstanding efforts.

To win the honor, he batted .402 with 43 hits, 4 home runs, 24 RBIs and 18 runs scored. He also drew 6 walks to post a .438 on-base percentage.

Rodríguez has a .393 average and a .438 on-base percentage for the year. He has picked up 127 hits, 14 home runs and driven in 64 runs.

CL Selects Crawford June's Best Pitcher
Sunday, July 1st, 2164: It was a monstrous June for the Continental League Pitcher of the Month award winner, John Crawford of the Brooklyn Brownstones. He put up some mighty scary numbers.

Crawford recorded 4 wins and no losses in 5 starts. Throwing a total of 35.2 innings, he yielded 20 hits, mowed down 28 on strikes, gave up 14 walks and put up a solid ERA of 1.01 in a stellar month on the mound.

Checking out his stats for the year, Crawford has racked up 7 wins and 3 losses in 14 starts, 3.96 ERA and struck out 73 batters in 91 innings.


RL's Premier Starter is Oprel
Sunday, July 1st, 2164: Despite the number of years he's been in the league, Reginald Oprel still gets excited when he puts together a quality stretch like he had in June. The 37-year-old starter for Colorado was named Republic League Pitcher of the Month earlier today.

He collected 3 wins and 2 losses with 27 strikeouts in his 5 starts, putting up a fine 1.55 ERA in 40.2 innings of work.

This year Oprel has recorded a 7-6 mark. In 16 starts he has fanned 74 batters in 116.2 innings with a 3.86 ERA.

CL Chooses Rookie of the Month
Sunday, July 1st, 2164: Ed Roberson is still a bit shy, but then, who could blame the newest Continental League Rookie of the Month honoree? He hasn't been around the league long enough to fully know the ropes yet, despite the fact that he's putting up veteran-like numbers.

In June the Noblesville hitter tagged opposing pitching for a .255 average with 24 hits, 5 home runs and 17 RBIs.

In his stats this season, Roberson has posted a batting average of .284 with 81 hits in 285 at-bats, 17 home runs and 58 RBIs. He has also scored 54 runs, walked 29 times and compiled a .360 OBP.


Marquee Month for Martínez, Top RL Rookie
Sunday, July 1st, 2164: Juan Martínez's eyes seem to light up whenever he sees the baseball. The young Chico catcher has been hitting everything in sight for the better part of a month.

In June he was voted the Rookie of the Month Award.

During the month he hit .333 with 7 doubles, no triples and 4 home runs. Martínez also scored 15 times and drove in 12 runs.

A look at his season totals shows Martínez with 11 home runs, .288 BA, .332 OBP, 29 RBIs and 28 runs scored.

Wednesday, August 1st, 2164: Ernesto Rodríguez, the Baltimore Gothams catcher, certainly made his name known to Continental League hurlers over the last month. He consistently introduced himself with hit after hit and came away with July's Continental League Batter of the Month award.

He slashed and bashed his way to a .395 batting average while tallying up 7 home runs, 18 RBIs and 18 runs scored. He also worked CL pitchers for 7 walks and a .467 on-base percentage.

Posting a .286 batting average to date, Rodríguez has 16 home runs and 53 RBIs.


Hartford's Moreno Top RL Batter in July
Wednesday, August 1st, 2164: Víctor Moreno put his mark on the Republic League this July by putting together some award-winning numbers. Hartford's right fielder took home the Batter of the Month award on the strength of his .336 batting average.

July's Best Starter Named in CL
Wednesday, August 1st, 2164: The hottest hurler in the Continental League last month was José Garza Jr. of the Baltimore Gothams. He caught the attention of everybody in the league with some eye-catching stats, good enough to win the CL Pitcher of the Month.

In July, Garza Jr. starred with an impressive 5-0 record. In 5 starts he gave up 25 base hits and struck out 31 in 40 innings with a 1.80 ERA.

This year Garza Jr. has worked 156 innings with 118 strikeouts en route to a 13-6 record and a 2.88 ERA.


Hernández Picked as July's Pitcher of the Month
Wednesday, August 1st, 2164: When Rafael Hernández takes the mound, a Ann Arbor victory is usually the result. At least that's the way it was in July.

He excelled with a 4-0 mark and a 1.10 ERA in 4 starts, tossed 32.2 innings, fanned 21 and held opposing batters to a .246 average.

That's why the Winged Lingerines starter was honored today as the Pitcher of the Month by the Republic League.

Saturday, September 1st, 2164: Cleveland starter Tony Heard really put the chill on opposing teams in August and today was acclaimed the Continental League Pitcher of the Month.

He excelled with a 3-0 mark and 1.70 ERA in 7 starts. In 37 innings, he fanned 36 and walked 8.

Monday, October 1st, 2164: There was little doubt around the Continental League that Gustavo Gareia would be awarded Pitcher of the Month honors for September. Today, they made it official, naming the 24-year-old Napa Valley Winemakers starter the latest honoree.

He thoroughly dominated the hitters who stood in against him, holding them to a .207 batting average while fashioning a 1.71 ERA in 7 starts. His record for the month was 3-1 in 42 innings of work.

This year Gareia has fashioned a 10-11 mark, 3.80 ERA and pitched 213.1 innings. Opposing clubs are batting .259 against him and he has logged 143 strikeouts.


Hartford Starter Named RL's #1 Pitcher
Monday, October 1st, 2164: As Andrés Torres hoisted up the Republic League Pitcher of the Month trophy for September, rumors have already begun to swirl about whether he will leave Hartford once his contract is up at the end of the season.
