+1

I've used spots for years, even in this league and this is what happens.

I'm around. Just working on my team. I'm probably still going to write up a preview.

So anyway, the spot starter(s) always pitch in place of the 5th starter.

Ahhhh...I always thought the spot starter was added onto the end of a rotation, and not in place of a pitcher...For example if you use a 4 man rotation, and a spot starter at 50%, then every 2nd time through the rotation, the spot starter would throw after the #4 man....sort of to ease the burden on the staff. I never used the feature...just assumed thats how it went...
Personally i think having a "days rest" function would be smartest. For example, if you have it set at "4 days rest" the game will use a 5 man rotation on full weeks, but only a 4 man rotation if the team has an off-day....Pehaps i am asking for too much from the 9th version of a game

i always assumed spot starter was just inserted in the times when the next pitcher due up to pitch was still tired or something. like instead of the AI just throwing a tired guy out there, it'd put the spot starter in so that everyone else can resume on normal rest. wacky idea, but the last thing i would've thought was a replacement pitcher for the #5 guy.

I am actually wondering if everything's okay. It's unusual for DC to be this behind and not let us know ahead of time if something might get in the way.

He's moving this weekend isn't he or something? Probably just got held up or slowed down more than expected.

Quick question for everyone around:

Something that I haven't mentioned yet, but as a part of the BOD, I'm thinking about writing up some sort or rulebook/guide called "A Guide for the FOOL". Do people think this would be a worthwhile task for new and old owners?

Simming will start slow. Folks sent me instructions and I want to do that junk and get it out of the early, so I don't have to remember it later.

As a newer member, it definitely couldn't hurt. It has been quite a process trying to get myself up to speed.

If anyone can share my pain, it's a Braves fan.

But your teams were equal opportunity chokers, losing to anyone in the postseason. We have a very specific Bostonian affliction.

But at least we both have a WS championship.

Just for future reference, if you offer contracts to a guy before the season starts and you want him on your roster, you HAVE to leave space open for said player. Meaning, you have to start the year with 24-man or whatever else you're trying to do. That's the gamble with doing that. Otherwise, I can't make moves for you with your late signings (opening day signings...)

I thought that was understood, but I'll have to add that to the rules thread.

Even if you leave pretty easy instructions about who to drop to AAA?

If you're talking to offers I made, I knew that rule and didn't take the gamble with the understanding they would be left off my team since that rule was published before.

If not talking about me.. then nevermind!

Yeah, that's unfortunate, as I didn't recall seeing that rule. Of course, I have never made an offer to a guy like this before.

My team will be fine, but I have to admit I am disappointed if something as simple as I set it up can't be followed. Even the holes in the system are set up to accept the changes.

No no. It's not you. I'm talking Atlanta and Columbus. I'll happily make changes, the issue here is that by technicality, if I move a player from the active roster to AAA DURING the season, it violates the integrate of the rule that says, you can only have 25 players on the roster, the same 25 all season.

It's a slippery slope. I don't wanna be "that guy" but...if I do it once, then we'll have to do it forever and well...that's just...well, you know. Not good and stuff.

So I guess I have "that guy."

Its not like my team's 1 ring of collective 130 or 140 something years worth of futility is anything great. The Chicago Bears more than make up for my Falcons.. and don't even compare my Hawks to the Bulls.

My futility as a fan goes so far that my hometown hockey team left 27 years ago and now is only rooted for by people who live in some eskimo land!

No, I understand. I just wish that rule was more well advertised. Maybe Turner is on to something with respect to the rulebook/guide.

But, hey, even if I don't get my target guy on the big league squad, I'll still take him. Just stick him in AAA, and I'll deal with him next year.

I really didn't know that rule existed, as this is the first time I've had cap room to attempt this. Another reason I'd like to work on a guide/rulebook.

That is what I was aiming for myself.. but based on these comments, I'm guessing I won't get either of the guys I bid on.

I know. It's not anyone's fault, it's an obscure FOOL rule. Sorry, didn't mean to be a buzzkill.

Ok, now it's run time for reals.

Nah, he's in AAA. That's where they go by default. (That is, DC default. Not in-game default.)

Well, with the Angels' largely successful recent run, and the Ducks and UCLA basketball as good as they are, I admit my teams have had at least some success. And if I were of a mind to, I have the Lakers and Dodgers around, too (no, I don't have USC, I can't stand them).

But I am a Clippers fan first (in basketball), and everyone knows about them. I was a diehard Rams fan before they betrayed us fans here, so I have that negative. And UCLA football is huge for me, and they are constantly in a state of suck.

So it's not all golden.

Oh yeah, on my Galaxy can't even win with Beckham, and my Boro in the EPL can't seem to compete with the big boys.
