Welcome to Cow Pasture Field!
And in a moment we'll be ready
for the game between
Old Timers and FOFC
The ump shouts "PLAY BALL!"
We're ready to go here in Old Timers
Barrett Blade to lead it off for FOFC
Keefe will try to get Blade to go fishing
as the 0-2 pitch heads towards the plate
There's a towering fly ball hit by Blade
Thompson sprints over, and makes the catch
Keefe retires the first batter to
face him in the top of the 1st

FOFC left fielder, Stan Gunner, is up next
Gunner grips the bat handle
Waiting for the pitch is Gunner
The fans want the "K"
Tim winds and comes in
with the 0-2 pitch
Strike three swinging!
With an 0 and 2 count, Keefe threw
it on the outside corner
Gunner had to go after it
Tim did a good job
of pin-pointing that ball
It was too close to let go by...
but not good enough to hit
Two down
Ewing asks for a new ball
He calls time and trots out to the mound
A conference going on between
Ewing and Keefe

FOFC sends the right fielder,

So here we go...the show down
match up between the
FOFC and Post Nationals.
It's been talked about for weeks
and only a half a game
separates the two teams
This is going to be huge in
the determination of who will win
the National League

We are ready to go and...

He walked him, ball four
The lead-off batter gets on here
in the top of the 1st

The All Stars try the hit and run!
Tucker gets under this one
It's popped high in the air to second
Morgan is waving everybody off
Tucker is retired
One down for FOFC
Persimmon Pflaggstettler is still
in the on-deck circle
and Jeeberoni Potpie is looking
for a bat in the dugout

Pflaggstettler watches a roundhouse
curve all the way in
Strike Three called!
That one started out right at Persimmon,
In fact, he started to bend back
out of the way
Gibson just delivered a sweeping curve
that just caught
the inside corner of the plate
And there's two away

Bouncer up the middle
Past Joe Morgan... base hit
into center field!
Blade makes the turn at second
Third base coach Dick Howser
tells him to keep a-comin'
Runners at first and third

There's a foul behind behind the plate
Roy is after it
Digging hard...
Not in time!
Too shallow of a pop-up for Campanella
to reach it in time
Another chance for Hays
. . . Hays back in the box
And here comes the next pitch
Hays gets a good cut at it...
He lifts it high and deep toward left
Aaron is heading back...
At the ivy
And he makes the catch for the out!
Gibson breathes a sigh of relief
Bob Gibson holds FOFC scoreless
in the first inning

Slider, over the inside corner...
Lashed hard out into center
It's in for a base hit...
Tucker quickly racing over...
Fields it smoothly, fires it
in behind the runner...
Morgan dives back into the bag...
SAFE!!
Credit Morgan with a single

It is a high hard one...
Clemente goes on a fishin' trip
Strike three swinging!
That one sailed up out of the strike zone
but Clemente couldn't hold back
One gone for NL Post WWII

Mays will try the hit and run!
Here's the change up...
Waiting on it...
Mays drives one over Tucker's head...
Tucker backing up quickly...
He's got his legs twisted...
But he rights himself in time
Tucker recovers and makes the grab

Aaron sits on the change up
He lofts a fly ball towards Gunner
Gunner gliding under it...
Appears to lose sight of it
Has it again...
And makes the catch in medium left
NL Post WWII is out of here
in the bottom of the 1st
This game is coming to you from Big
League Field in NL Post WWII
After 1 inning
NL Post WWII has no runs,
one hit and no errors
While FOFC has no runs,
one hit and no errors

Gunner tries to hold up, but can't
He pops one into short right
Clemente is coming in hard...
Morgan is racing with his
back to the infield
And neither is going to get it!
Gunner is on with the "excuse me" single!

Palmer hits it deep towards the gap
Clemente is back to the warning track...
To the ivy...
He leaps against the wall...
He can't get it!
Palmer is at third, with a triple
Gunner scores from first

The batter checks his swing
Here's the appeal
Nights held up, and draws a walk
Gibson isn't happy at all with that call

Sharp slider, catches the outside corner
Nielsen swings at it...
Hammers a hard grounder right at second
Picked up smoothly...
Throw to first...
IT'S OFF THE BAG!!...
Musial grabs it, turns back to the bag
NOT IN TIME!
Nielsen is SAFE!
That'll be an error on that play
Score It: E4
Palmer scores from third!
Nights takes second
Nielsen to first

Blade fouls off the bunt attempt
The count goes to 1 and 2, we'll have
to see if they keep the bunt play on

Blade dribbles one toward Joe Morgan
He scoops it and fires to first...
Close play
OUT, says the umpire
The first base coach is having a tizzy fit
And there's one away

Swung on and missed...
Tucker is down on strikes
With that putout
Gibson only needs one more out
to get out of this inning
But 2 runs already across for FOFC

Swung on...
And Pflaggstettler got
a little piece of it
But Campanella held on to
the tip, strike three
Three away in the top of the 2nd
FOFC on top 2 to 0
Let's go to the ticker
And see how everyone else is faring

Negro League II leads AL Post WWII 3 to 2
Left Outs and AL Pre WWII
have yet to score
Dead Ball Era is on top of
Japanese League 2 to 0
NL Pre WWII is on top of Old Timers 2 to 0

And here comes the next pitch
Ernie Banks swings
He hits a long drive
This one may be out of here...
Back, back, back...
CAUGHT!
That one looked like it was gone
That ends the inning
After 2 innings, FOFC leads by 2

Potpie gets wood on the hard slider
It's a bouncer hit past the mound...
And PAST Banks into the outfield...
Base hit for Potpie

Hit to third... and right at Schmidt
He juggled that ball a bit, but held on
Hays is out

Low and inside
It hit him on the foot!
Gunner tried to dance out of the way
But it got him

Curve, up high...
Palmer rips it to left...
Gibson hung that breaking ball
However, Deacon got under it just a bit
Aaron started back on it
Now he's coming in...
He's under it and makes the easy catch
"Can of Corn"
That's out number two
Post-Nationals' pitching
coach, Johnny Podres,
is out to talk with Gibson

And Nights will be trotting to first
They've put him on intentionally
That sets up a force at any base
and brings up Rob Nielsen next

Nielsen swings and lifts one toward right
Clemente drifts over slowly...
He is under it now...
And makes the easy catch...
That's out number three
Nielsen leaves the bases loaded
So for FOFC, No runs, one hit, no
errors and 3 men left on base

Sinking fastball...
Tailing away...
Swung on...
Campanella hits a deep fly to left-center
Back to the ivy
Gunner is at the warning track

Here's the throw...
It's a rope...
The slide...
SAFE!!
Two-base hit for Campanella

Gibson squares
He bunts it . . .
Fielded by J.Potpie
the throw to first...
Out
Gibson gets the job done.
With one down, up next is Joe Morgan
To be followed by Roberto Clemente

There's a hard roller down at Palmer
He's in front of it...
It rolls right between the wickets!
Error on Deacon Palmer as he
didn't get his glove down
Maybe a bit too easy for him
That scores Campanella

The runner goes with the pitch!
It's the hit and run!
Clemente misses the pitch!
The steal attempt...
Hays fires it down...
Good throw...
The hard slide...
And Morgan is outta there!

Breaking ball...
It darts down and out
as Clemente swings way over it
He was fooled completely
Hays loses it momentarily,
but now finds the handle and tags
Roberto as he was heading for the dugout
That's all here in the bottom of the 3rd
But the Post-Nationals get on the board...
They bring in 1 run
It's now All Stars 2, Post-Nationals 1

A low bouncer to Schmidt
It bounces off his chest...
But he keeps it in front of him
Over to first...

Shows the importance of good positioning
That's one away

Roberto Clemente picks it up
Fires it to the infield
Tucker holds with a single

He walked him, ball four
The lead-off batter gets on here
in the top of the 1st

Hit and run...
Slow curve, up high...
Tucker sends a hard grounder to first
Musial takes it on one hop
Fires to Banks for one
Back to first...
The throw is wide, A. J. is safe
With one down, up next is Persimmon
Pflaggstettler
To be followed by Jeeberoni Potpie

Here's a high fastball, at the letters...
Pflaggstettler raps a hard
grounder toward third
Mathews takes two steps to his left
Scoops it up...
Flips over to second for one...
The throw to first...
Not in time!
Score it a force play
Speed on the bases helped FOFC there
Two gone for FOFC

It's a rainbow shot toward center
Mays reaches up
Makes the catch!
Didn't have to move an inch
That wraps up the inning for FOFC
By the way, FOFC is 7 and 3
in their last ten games

Morgan cuts on a curve that
misses in the dirt
That ball is trapped nicely by Hays
Morgan was badly fooled by Babson's
big breaking curve
STRIKE THREE!
Joe was a little overanxious
One out
Due up next is Roberto Clemente

Long fly to left
Gunner has a long run...
He's there and hauls it in
Clemente is retired on a fairly deep fly
Two down
Brian Babson retires
the first two batters in a row

It's a routine fly into right
Pflaggstettler ranges over and reaches up
This should do it...
And Pflaggstettler grabs it for the out
1-2-3, nothing across...

Curveball, inside corner, low...
Swung on...
And lined to left for a base hit
No chance to get that one

Palmer connects on the curve...
This one is really smoked...
Clemente starts back...
Now he just stops to look
Palmer got all of this one....
See ya, It's a home run!
Hays scores in front of him

Lifted in the air, back this way
The catcher, Bench, will
take it for the out
So Perry retires Gunner
Jeff Nights will be up next for FOFC
2 runs across here in the top of the 2nd

Swung on...and it's in the
air to the left side
Backing just a bit is Aaron
And he pulls it in
FOFC ahead 2 to 0 with
two away this inning

Breaking ball...
It darts down and out
as Babson swings way over it
He was fooled completely
Bench loses it momentarily,
but now finds the handle and tags
Brian as he was heading for the dugout
That wraps up the inning for FOFC

Strike three swinging!
That one sailed up and

Perry couldn't hold back
Babson needs one more out
to get out of this jam

Drilled on the ground to second
Taken by Blade
Over to Potpie
Got him!
Score It: 4-3
So that wraps it up here in

He is obviously upset with himself
We'll be back in just a minute...

Fastball, a beauty...
Steee Rike THREE!
And there's one away

A. J. Tucker offers at the curveball,
but checks his swing
Oh, Tucker couldn't get the

Fastball, just inside...
Looked very close...
Marichal's obviously peeved at that call
But Barrett tends to get those calls
He has a great eye and doesn't mind
taking the free ride to first

The hit and run is on!
Tucker sends a hot smash to first
Musial takes it on one hop
Fires to Banks for one
Back to Stan Musial...
A. J. beats the relay
One gone for FOFC

Pflaggstettler swings and misses
Strike three
Pflaggstettler didn't have
a good cut at that pitch
Two down
Campanella asks for a new ball
He calls time and trots out to the mound
A conference going on between
Campanella and Marichal

Fastball... down and away...
NO! It's called a strike
And Potpie is outta there
Juan Marichal holds FOFC scoreless
in the first inning

Another hook for strike three!
Morgan just stood there looking
One down for NL Post WWII
Roberto Clemente is still
in the on-deck circle
and Willie Mays is looking
for a bat in the dugout

There's a hard bouncer to Palmer's left
He's over...
Makes the pick-up...
Over to Potpie...
Clemente is out!
A sparkling glove hand pick-up
by Deacon Palmer!
Two down

Swung on...
And there's a high fly ball into center
Tucker is under it, waits...
He's got it
Al Mighty holds the Post-Nationals
scoreless in the first

There's a high foul pop behind the plate
Campanella goes back to the screen
Nice play
Just before it goes into the seats
One up, one down

Stan takes a vicious cut
But only creates a breeze
He was guessing on that one
Wrong guess!
Gunner has been striking out a lot in 1900
And he is batting only
.250 in 288 at bats
That's two away
Banks comes over from his shortstop
position to say a few words to Marichal
Deacon Palmer will be next up...

Swung on and hit on the nose to left
Aaron picks it up on one bounce
Flips it to second...
Palmer is on with a sharply hit single
He hit a curve ball...
and he was just waiting on it

Nights hits a pop into short right field
Out goes Musial and Morgan
In comes Clemente
Morgan waves his hands in the air
He makes the catch over his shoulder
Pretty play by Joe
So that's it for FOFC
They fail to score against Marichal
In the top of the 2nd for FOFC
No runs, one hit, no errors
and one man left on base

Slow ground ball
Nights is charging it
He fires it to first
He's OUT
One out
Due up next is Stan Musial

A wave and a miss!
Strike Three!
Musial is down on strikes
Number 2 here today for Mighty
Two down
Mighty retires the first two
NL Post WWII batters

Curveball in the dirt
Swung on and missed...Strike three
Hays fumbles it,
but quickly recovers to tag Schmidt
That wraps up the inning for NL Post WWII
By the way, NL Post WWII is 7 and
3 in their last ten games

Fly ball to right
Clemente is under it
He makes the grab
That's the first out of the inning
Two more to go

It's a high fly to deep center
Mays is on his horse
It is carrying to the ivy
Willie jumps...
Leaping catch... No, it
pops out of his glove
Blade will get a two-base hit

Off speed pitch on the way...
And Tucker watches it go by
for the third strike
We're scoreless with two away
Let's check some other scores as well

AL Post WWII leads Negro League II 1 to 0
Ryan and Mathis currently dueling
Left Outs is on top of AL Pre WWII 5 to 3
Japanese League and Dead Ball
Era are all knotted at 1
NL Pre WWII and Old Timers
are all knotted at 4
Caribbean is on top of Turn
of Century 2 to 0
Garcia and Mathewson currently dueling
Negro League I is giving
it to Late 20th 6 to 1
Lloyd has hit his 7th homerun
for Negro League I

Fastball, belt high, away...
Pflaggstettler goes after it...
There's a fly ball to Mays
Mays is gliding under it...
He flags it down on the run
That ends the inning
FOFC threatens but does not score
here in the top of the 3rd

Lined to third
Tough chance for Palmer
He grabs it for the out
Score It: 5

Swing and a miss
Struck him out
Number 158 on the season for Mighty
And there's two away

Sinking fastball...
Marichal swings...
Raps a hard ground ball
right at Nights...
He snares it easily, throws to first...
Out by a step
That's all for the Post-Nationals
After 3 innings in NL Post
WWII this afternoon,
No score

Potpie swings...
Hard groundball, left of third
It's by Schmidt and skips out to Aaron
Potpie rounds first
The left fielder is after it.. cuts it off
and fires it in quickly to second
Potpie returns to first
as Hank gets a nice throw in to Morgan

It is a high hard one...
Hays goes on a fishin' trip
Strike three swinging!
That one sailed up out of the strike zone
but Hays couldn't hold back
That's one away

A slider by Marichal
Gunner gets good wood on it...
Mays back-pedals quickly...
Up with his glove...
Out!
That's the second out of the inning

Grounded towards the sack
Schmidt grabs it
Over to first
In time!
Score It: 5-3
So ends the top of the 4th
For FOFC
No runs, one hit, no errors
and one man left on base
After 3 and a half innings,
We're scoreless

High heater...
Morgan goes after it...
Rips a line drive into the gap
That looks like an easy two-bagger
A. J. Tucker races to the ball
Cuts it off, spins and fires it in
Blade takes the relay
Fires to Nights...
The slide...
Safe at second
Morgan has himself a double

There's a bouncer down to Palmer
He fronts it...
And muffs it!
Error on Deacon Palmer
He was just eaten up by that ball!

Clemente stretches his lead
Clemente takes his lead...
Mighty fires it to first...
Clemente dives back...
SAFE!
WOW! That was a real belly whopper!

In there, called strike three
Mays didn't like it
So we have one out now for NL Post WWII
2 runners on board
as Hank Aaron rubs his bat with
the pine tar one last time

He chases the hook...
Aaron hits a deep fly ball...
Tucker moving under the ball...
He makes the catch...
And uncorks the throw...
SAFE!...
As the ball trickles away from Hays
He was unable to handle the throw
Two down
Due up next is Stan Musial
Having quite a year so far
He brings a lot of power
to the Post-Nationals

Base hit to right for Musial
Third base coach Bill Russle
thinks he can make it...
Here comes Clemente...
The throw is cut off...
That holds Musial at first

Bounced past the mound
Fielded nicely by Blade
Over to Potpie
Got him!
Score It: 4-3
That wraps up the inning for NL Post WWII
So After 4 innings
NL Post WWII has one run,
2 hits and no errors
While FOFC has no runs,
3 hits and one error
NL Post WWII has left 2 stranded
FOFC has failed to bring home 4

9/4 Radio Broadcast Continued

Ground ball to the left side...
Banks scoops it up
Over to first for the putout
One away here in the top of the 5th
NL Post WWII ahead 1 to 0
While we have time, let's
check the scoreboard

AL Post WWII is edging Negro
League II 1 to 0
Left Outs is in front of
AL Pre WWII 8 to 5
Japanese League and Dead
Ball Era are tied at 1
NL Pre WWII with the lead
over Old Timers 7 to 4
Hornsby has hit his 25th homerun
for NL Pre WWII
Caribbean and Turn of Century
are tied at 2
Keeler has hit his 4th homerun
for Turn of Century
Negro League I is crushing
Late 20th 11 to 1
Paige and Negro League I
are on cruise control

Hot shot grounded to the mound
Marichal comes up with it
His throw to first
GOT HIM!
Score It: 1-3
Two down
Marichal retires two in a row

Sinker, at the knees...
Swung on...
Blade hits it into the hole
on the right side
Morgan ranging to his left...
Scoops it up...
Throws on the run...
And Blade is out by a step at first
That's all she wrote
A three up, three down inning
So After 4 and a half innings
NL Post WWII on top, 1-0

Slider, over the inside corner...
Lashed hard out into center
It's in for a base hit...
Tucker quickly racing over...
Fields it smoothly, fires it
in behind the runner...
Banks dives back into the bag...
SAFE!!
Credit Banks with a single

Campanella just gets a piece of it
He 'nubs' it to second
Blade races in quickly...
Barehands it...
Over to first
Just in time!
The runner moves up easily...

Struck him out on a terrible pitch
That was right over the
heart of the plate
with no movement on it...
and Marichal swung right
over the top of it!
Lucky Mr. Mighty!
Two away now for NL Post WWII
They're ahead by 1
The Post-Nationals have 3
hits on the afternoon

Morgan jack-knifes out of the way
But it's in there!
Morgan was really fooled
on that strike three
That retires the side...
Morgan fails to come through in the clutch
For NL Post WWII, No runs, one hit, no
errors and one man left on base

Changeup down low...
Tucker makes contact and
hits one out to center
Willie Mays is drifting over...
Now he's under it...
Easy out for Marichal

Hot shot grounded to short
Banks comes up with it
Over to first
In time!
Score It: 6-3
Two down
Juan Marichal retires
the first two batters in order

Curve, a beauty...
Strike three looking!
Marichal punches him out!
Marichal retires the side in order
Here in the top of the 6th

Clemente hits one on the ground
to the left side
Roberto, who moves well,
is motoring to first
Nights wings it quickly to Potpie...
OUT by a step
One up, one down for NL Post WWII

Strike three called
A slider that broke over
Number 8 for Al Mighty today!
162 on the year
Two down
Al Mighty retires
the first two batters in a row

Curve ball...
Aaron swings and misses by a mile
The bottom dropped out of that one!
A wicked pitch!
That's all for the Post-Nationals
After 6 full innings,
they lead by 1

Fastball, STRIKE THREE!
Hays was frozen on that
fastball by Marichal
High and on the inside corner
He was looking for an off-speed pitch
So Hays is set down
And that's 7 for Marichal today
And there's one away

There's a fly ball to Willie Mays
Mays circles under it...
He makes the play
That's two down for Marichal
FOFC will need to do better than that
They are running out of time

Here's a curve...
Not a good one!
Palmer turns on it a BIG WAY...
Forget it, that one is long
gone... a home run!
Number 10 for Deacon on the year
He also has 53 RBI's now

Nights lines one just to
the right of Musial
It's past him into right field!
Clemente hustles over
and fires it back into second
So Nights is on with a
line single to right

Nights inches slowly away from the bag
Marichal looks the runner back

He rips a grounder to second
Morgan grabs it
Over to Musial
Got him!
Score It: 4-3
That does it in the top of the 7th
Now a brief message from our hosts
This is the Strat-O-Matic Broadcast System
We are pleased you joined
us for today's ballgame
Now back to baseball where
After 6 and a half innings,
We're all tied up at 1

It's time for the 7th inning stretch!

Right down the middle... strike three
Musial must have been looking
for something else
He just froze on that pitch
NL Post WWII with one away
Rodney steps off the mound as
he waits for Mike Schmidt to
come to the plate

Schmidt pulls one into left field
Hooking away from Gunner
Stan is there
He's got it for the out
That's two away

A hot shot on the ground to Nights
He's got it cleanly on one hop...
Over to first and Banks is out
That is the third out for
NL Post WWII here
in the last of the seventh
The attendance has just been
announced at 45344

Slider, down at the knees...
Blade swings and lifts one deep to right
This one has a chance...
Clemente is at the warning track...
Bye, Bye Baby!!...
Number 4 on the year for Barrett Blade

Swung on and foul tipped
Campanella hangs on to it
Strike out for Marichal
Number 8 on the day
With one gone
FOFC will have Persimmon Pflaggstettler
coming up
A dangerous hitter, no doubt about it

Ground ball through the middle
Banks ranges behind second
Nice pick up...
Twists and fires it
OUT!
That's two gone for FOFC here
in the top of the 8th
Let's take ten seconds for
station identification
This is the Strat-O-Matic Broadcast System
Your four sports network...

Fastball... down and away...
NO! It's called a strike
And Potpie is outta there
That's it for FOFC
Here at Big League Field, After
7 and a half innings,
FOFC has 2 runs, 6 hits and one error
While NL Post WWII has one run,
3 hits and no errors
FOFC has left 5 on base
NL Post WWII has stranded 3

The batter checks his swing
Here's the appeal
Campanella swung, that's strike three
Campanella isn't happy at
all with that call
FOFC gets the first out
here late in this contest

Up for the Post-Nationals will
be Eddie Mathews...
He'll pinch hit for Juan Marichal
Joe Morgan is due to follow

Mathews dribbles a roller to Jeff Nights
Nights comes up with it and throws
It's in the dirt
Potpie can't come up with it
That'll be a throwing error on Nights
That's error number 2 of the game for FOFC

Time is called by NL Post WWII
Here comes Lou Brock out of the dugout
He is heading toward first base
And Eddie Mathews starts off the diamond
Tommy Lasorda wants more
speed on the bases

Brock takes his lead
The runner can't seem to get a good lead

Good slider, inside part of the plate
Morgan gets the bat on it...
Slams a sharp grounder to the right side
Blade grabs it...
To second for one
Over to first...
OUT!
Smooth "DP" by FOFC
Three away in the bottom of the 8th
FOFC leads 2 to 1
Let's see how NL Post WWII
is doing of late...
Well, NL Post WWII is 7 and
3 in their last ten games
Phil Niekro will be coming on
to pitch for NL Post WWII
Phil has appeared in 64 games this season
He has a record of 10-4
in 99 innings
His ERA stands at 4.08

Letterhigh, hard slider...
Swung on...
It's a line drive belted toward Banks
It's by him...
Aaron comes in...
Plays it off his chest
Recovers quickly, throwing into second
Good defensive recovery
Keeping Hays to a single

The runner is off with the pitch
Hit and run!
Smashed to second
Taken by Morgan
Throw to second for one
They might turn it . . .
Double Play!
Score It: 4-6-3
Two men gone, nobody on
FOFC leads by 1

There's a towering fly ball hit by Palmer
Mays sprints over, and makes the catch
Three down for FOFC
Still a 1 run deficit for NL Post WWII
Let me point out that
coming in to today's game
FOFC is 33 and 18 in one run games
NL Post WWII has a 27 and 24 record
in these tight contests

Sammy Knowles in to pitch...
Hanging curve...
Swung on...
Clemente turned that one
around in a BIG WAY...
Forget it, that one is long
gone... a home run
Tucker didn't even move
That ties it up...

Willie Mays steps to the plate
Letterhigh fastball...
The ball game is over
That had to carry at least 420 feet
NL Post WWII wins 3 to 2
And just like that the FOFCers
potential 2.5 game lead with 4
games to play is gone, and they sit
on just a half game cushion.
This was a crushing blow for the
All-Stars and Sammy Knowles.

Niekro gets credit for the win
Knowles takes the loss
The hitting star for NL Post WWII
was Roberto Clemente
He was 1 for 4 with a homerun
And that wraps things up
So long from NL Post WWII.

Manager Update

That was a tough loss. We got away from what we do best when we tried to make the tough play at the plate rather than take the easy out at first. Typically, we realize the other teams are going to score and we'll let a run cross to eliminate the big inning. But in the heat of the moment at this point in the season, late in the game, clinging to a half game lead, when the opportunity presented itself Jeebs tried to get the out at home rather than geting the out a first...and not only did we not get the out at the plate then Palmer did the same thing with the very next batter and we ended up giving up an extra run. When that happens and you lose by 1 run, you just shake your head at your poor luck...

Manager Update

So here we sit. We are a half a game back, and the NL Post team has only 1 game left. If they win tonight then we can't win the division outright no matter what we do, the best we can hope for is a 1 game playoff.

Come on Carribean All-Stars...

I had the pleasure of meeting
the fine author
Robert Creamer last night
He told me a funny story about Babe Ruth

Seems he was at an elegant dinner party
A rather splendid asparagus
salad was served
Babe played with it for a moment
then pushed it aside
The hostess asked politely
"Don't you care for the salad, Mr. Ruth?"
"Oh it's not that",
was his courteous reply
"It's just that asparagus
makes my urine smell"

Gunner swings and lifts one toward center
Duffy drifts over slowly...
He is under it now...
And makes the easy catch...
FOFC on top 3 to 2 with

And in our contest FOFC ahead 3 to 2

Swung on and chopped down
the third base line
Fouts stabs at it
He's got it!
Over to first...
GOT HIM!
What a nice play

Extra base hit to center for Wagner
A. J. Tucker is trying to get to it
This one is rolling to the wall...
This might be stretched into an
inside the park homerun!
He's going to try for it!
Here's the play...
He's Out!!!!

They tried to tie it on an inside
the park homerun can came up just a step
short...

That play keeps the FOFCers hopes alive
as they remain half a game back with
1 to play...

So I screwed up getting the box score for the game. I've rebuilt it best I can from the play-by-play and I'll post it tomorrow. But not everything in it will be accurate and it will be formatted differently...

Pflaggstettler is over to pick it up
He tosses it back to second
Keeler will hold with a clean single

Keeler takes a three step lead
Keeler does not get a good lead

There goes Keeler...
And it's ball four...
Keeler pulls up and walks into second

It's right down the pike!
Strike three looking!
Rodney crossed Lajoie up that time

Base hit to left for Wagner
Dode Criss will send the runner home...
The throw is cut off...
And that allows the run to score

Taking his lead is Kelley
Kelley is going on the pitch!
It's a fastball at the knees...
Bullock firing from his knees...
Low throw into the dirt...
Bouncing off the bag and
out into leftfield...
Gunner is charging in...
Crawford gets up and heads for home...
The long throw home...
NOT IN TIME!!...
Credit Kelley with a stolen base
and a run scored on the error

Crawford flies out to center
Dode Criss is windmilling
the runner home...
Here's the play at the plate...
Wagner scores!

Collins drives one into right
Persimmon Pflaggstettler sprints
over to make the play
The Centurions go down in
the bottom of the 8th
After 8 innings at Yellowstone Park
here in Turn of Century,
Turn of Century ahead 7 to 5

Here's a slider over the inside corner
Swung on...
It's a bouncing ball past
Collins at third...
Wagner moving to his right...
Makes a great backhanded stop...
He spins in the air
Firing to first from the outfield grass...
Fouts beats the throw easily
That was a great pickup by Wagner
But, he didn't have a chance
And should have hung onto the ball

There's a grounder right at Nap Lajoie
This should be two
The throw to second...in time
To first
Out of there, a double play!
Two down, All Stars at bat
in the 9th inning...
FOFC trails the Centurions by 2
The All Stars are down to their final out
Jeff Nights is due up
Bresnahan takes a trip out to the mound
He wants to discuss something with Wood
Now Bresnahan trots back

Nights smashes a wicked ground
ball towards third
Collins dives to his left...
Snares it in front of Wagner
He's up
Powerful throw to first
OUT!
Beautiful play!
And that will do it for FOFC
There dreams of the post
season end with a thud...
after jumping to an early
3 - 0 lead they can't hang on.

Turn of Century wins 7 to 5
Wood gets credit for the win
Rodney takes the loss
The hitting star for Turn of Century
was Jimmy Collins
He was 1 for 4 with a homerun
And that wraps things up
So long from Turn of Century.

Dynasty Update

Well, sorry for the anti-climatic ending. I will continue this dynasty through the World Series between the Negro League 1 and NL Post Nationals. I'll also post the league leaders, team stats and announce the award winners over the next several days...

WORLD SERIES PREVIEW

"So we have the match up in the World Series that many predicted before the start of the season - The Post Nationals and the Negro League 1s...it wasn't as easy as many thought, as the upstart FOFC All-Stars gave the Post Nationals all they could handle. Taking it down to the last game of the season, and more accurately the last couple of innings before finally falling off the pace. They deserve a lot of credit for their efforts and we hope they will be back next season to give it another run, they were a fun team to watch...," Hack Jobb states.

"However, our focus tonight it to compare these two great teams that will be starting to play for the championship tomorrow. They are both dominating on a lot of levels and we are going to take a peek at the different aspects of the teams to try and determine who has the edge..."

"We'll start by looking at the pitching, as pitching is always so important in the post season, and both of these pitching staffs are strong. To help me break it down, I've brought in former pitching great Jim Kaat to get his opinion on the situation. So Jim, lets start by comparing the rotations of these two teams...the Negro Leaguers will probably rollout...

- S.Paige 3.51 15 /12
- L.Day 3.73 13 / 4
- H.Smith 3.81 15 / 7
and if they elect to use a forth starter it will most likely be
- B.Rogan 4.22 15 / 9

And the Post Nationals will counter with...

- T.Seaver 3.06 16 / 2 - who looks like a front runner for the Most Valuable Pitcher in the NL
- S.Koufax 3.30 14 / 3 - who pitched good enough to win a Most Valuable Pitcher award in most seasons
- B.Gibson 4.64 12 / 8
And if they go with a fourth...Gaylord Perry or Juan Marichal, not sure which they would choose."

"Now Jim, on the surface, the starting pitching edge appears to go to the Post Nationals. In fact, It almost looks impossible to beat Seaver and Koufax twice and the Negro Leaguers will undoubtedly face them both at least 2 times and maybe 1 of them 3 times."

Kaat, "Very true. I mean, in total over the entire season those two pitchers only lost 5 times, hard to think they are going to lose 4 games with those 2 guys pitching 4 or 5 of the games in the series, but there are some interesting things to consider. If I'm the Posters, I'm setting up my rotation for Koufax to go first, with the Negro Leaguers being such a lefty heavy lineup...and I mean a lefty heavy, he stands the best chance of dominating. But the rest of that rotation is all right handed pitching, and that might bode well for the American League representatives. Those lefties on the Negro League team can really hit and they could give the Gibsons, Seavers, Perrys trouble..."

"Hard to believe anyone could give Seaver trouble this year..." Hack Jobb quips..."what about the other way around."

We'll the Nationals are a bit more right handed than left, with Aaron and Banks, both MVP possibilities, teaming up with Mays, Clemente, and more...but you have to be careful, because if you get too righty happy, Musial and Matthews will kill you...all that said, I believe Paige will do great in this series, and the rest of the rotation is good enough to win, but if you put me on the spot I'm giving the rotation edge to the Nationals."

"What about the pens?" Jobb follows up.

"Now that is a different story. The pen for the Negro Leaguers is deeper led by Bill and Rube Foster and MacDonald. The Nationals, have good arms, but they really lack a closer. Bunning served in that role must of the season, but he got killed a bunch. He gave up 25 more hits than innings pitched and he walked a batter every other inning. The edge here, clearly goes to the Negro Leagues..."

"Is the pen disparity big enough to give the pitching edge to the Negro Leaguers?"

"Probably not, but if I'm a Post Nationals fan, and it's tight late, I'm holding my breath for sure."

"Jim, thanks for the insight, and before I let you go, is it true that you have been approached about being on a team in this league next time around?"

"There have been some discussions floating around about the league expanding, and I've been contacted to gauge my interest. Not sure where this will lead at this point, but I'm open to having the conversation."

"Thanks again Jim...and after the break, we will look at the defenses and then we'll finish up with the lineups..."

WORLD SERIES PREVIEW

"So when we look at the defenses of these two teams, you get an idea why they are both here. I doubt there is a team in the league that can claim to have a better defense than these 2...maybe as good, but certainly not any better." Jobb explains. "To go over these defenses we've brought in Dick Allen..."

"Why the hell did you bring me in here to talk about defense?"

"Well, you played a lot of positions..."

"Yeah, played them like crap...defense was a waste of time. It was something I did between at bats. They didn't pay me to play defense...they paid me to rake, and man could I rake. Now a days, I'd be a DH and I'd be so good at it, they'd have put my ass in the Hall of Fame and I'd be playing in this league rather than talking to some stupid shit like you...You and your producers are dumbasses if you thought I could break down defenses...I'm leaving..."

"Um...we'll, yes...that was, um...interesting...we will be back shortly..."

"We're back after the very awkward session with Dick Allen, and with me now to talk about the defenses of the two World Series participants is Dwight "Dewey" Evans, an 8 time gold glove winner...Dwight, how do you access the defenses of these two teams?"

"We'll Hack, both of these defenses are very good...you have gazelles in the outfield...Mays, Aaron, Clemente, vs Charleston, Bell, and Torriente...I don't think there has ever been to outfields with more range. It will be difficult to find gaps out there during the series. Both teams have great catchers with good arms, and excellent defense up the middle of the infield. The only areas where I think there is an advantage it at third, where when the Post Nationals use Eddie Matthews they give up a little on defense."

"Of course they get 48 homeruns on offense..." Jobb counters...

"Oh sure, and you'd and anyone else would take that trade off every day of the week, but from a defense only perspective that is a ding. Also Banks, and I know 50 Homers...isn't as good defensively as Lloyd."

"So your overall opinion..."

"The Negro Leaguers are better on defense..."

"Thanks, Dewey...and before we let you go...I have to ask like I did to Kaat, we here you name as a possible member or an expansion team in this league. Is that true?"

"Not sure, there are a bunch of good outfielders that are being mentioned like Murphy, Parker, Frank Howard, Bernie Williams, and I'm honored to be included in the conversation. We'll just have to see how it all breaks down..."

"Up next what most of you have been watching for...a breakdown of the offenses...."

World Series Preview

Hack Jobb smiles as the camera zooms in, "Finally, we are going to take a look at the offenses of the two league champions, and to help me with that we have Gil Hodges. Gil, on the surface the better offense seems pretty obvious, but is it?"

Gil nods as he replys, "Well, it is pretty hard to argue with a team that has one 50 Homerun guy, three 40 homerun guys, and 3 or 4 more 20 home run guys...not to mention players like Mike Schimidt who only hit 14 but did it in just over 150 ABs...When a team has that kind of fire power it is awfully difficult to beat."

"Just ask the FOFCers about that," Jobb chimes in.

"Exactly, The FOFCers had a good offense. In some ways very reminicient of the Negro League team, with power, average, speed...but launching bomb after bomb the way the Posters can, just make it so tough to beat them."

"Your really think the FOFC Offense was similar to the Negro Leaguers?"

"Oh sure, and I think if you look at it closely the numbers will bear that out. The Negro Leaguers have a bunch of guys that can hit. Cool Papa Bell is a terrific table setter, and while Gibson was disappointed with his season, for a catcher it was extremely good. Charleston is tough, so is Leonard and Torriente. Also, if you look at the middle infield, most teams would kill to get the production the Negro Leaguers got from DiHigo and Lloyd, but when you compare the NL Posts, it isn't close. The one wildcard I'll give the Negro Leaguers offensively is speed. Almost everyone on that team can scoot...and if they get on base enough, they could make things happen, force the issue, maybe force the Posters to make a few mistakes, and they might be able to steal the series..."

"Do you think they will steal the series," Jobb asks?

"No, I don't. I think the Post Nationals are too strong, and I think they'll win in 5."

"Your prediction, is very similar to our other guests so far. Kaat said NL Posts in 6, Evans said in 5, and Dick Allen told me to go screw myself, but in a much more vulgar way..."

"We hope you enjoy the series..."
