Damn, sorry to hear this. I loved hearing about what he did post-football as well. He was an all time great on and off the field.

I only saw bits and pieces of Sayers in old clips so can't fully appreciate him.

Made me ask the question - who is the greatest RB that I've seen play (a somewhat substantial number of games).

Payton, Sanders, Dickerson. I know Emmitt should be in the mix but he just didn't seem to have all those flashes of brilliance (vs a good old reliable work horse).

Think of a cross between Dickerson and Sanders and you have Gale.

The clips I have watched of Sayers show how sick his running ability was. Just give me 18 inches of daylight, is one of my favorite quotes. He could have set all kinds of records as a running back and returner. If only the doctors would have known back then what they know now.
