Playing players out of position
*Decided to edit this to TLDR and get to the real question here: Is it better to change positions than to play out of position? Interested in peoples thoughts on that mostly.
In the OSFL I have 2 really good RBs both of which are really good receivers. RB 1: Ty Ward 5'11 213lbs 63 rated RB 69 rated FL (maintains 80% so ~55 rated FL) RB 2: Jeff Owens 6'1 225lbs 52/66 rated RB 33/66 rated FL (maintains 83% so ~27/55 FL) both have 90+ route running as RBs My thinking going in to this season is that I want to keep these players on the field as much as possible, so I decided to throw one in at X while the other is at RB. And in general manufacture the playbook to target them more at X and at A. After 2 games the offense, which averaged 27 points per game last season, has scored 33 points total (16.5ppg). My RBs have gone 4/13 for 39yds and 6/9 for 36yds receiving respectively, no TDs. My QB: 6'1 210lbs 62 rated QB 1st year with the team High SR, Deep Pass, Short Pass, around 50 to 60 everywhere else, 40 timing is the lowest stat over 7 seasons average QBR is 65.2 52TD 80INT, 22-71 record as starter This season so far: 35/63 255yds 1TD 0INT I thought maybe in the right system this QB could thrive. My questions are: Is it really bad to play RBs at WR? lol probably, But these guys? Does anyone know exactly what is the penalty that my guys are currently working with? Does the game factor their current ratings with a penalty or their ratings after the position switch and then maybe a penalty on top of that? Is the problem here my QB?

So my thoughts are, if you position switch you take a degradation to ratings at the new position as well as the old. Therefore, it's almost never advisable to switch positions because you can just play out of position and at least maintain your ratings at the original position.
After skimming through some older posts it seems that no one knows exactly how the game penalizes playing out of position. Maybe it's mostly just the penalty for being outside the average height and weight.
