For no reason I can identify, I'm flipping back and forth between "Diners, Drive-Ins, and Dives" and "My 600 Pound Life."

I don't particularly like either show, but somehow I can't turn away.

Also, watching the people tweet about the show....man, people are cruel, and I guess they're more cruel when there is some sort of anonymity. I mean, I can't personally understand how people can get to that size, but I do know there are usually multiple issues involved.

I hope that the people on this show get counseling as well as surgery. Same thing with Fat Chef and the other shows like it, I really hope that they get offered counseling to help with everything they're going through so publicly...

I went to Barnes and Noble at about 1pm to get the latest Baseball Prospectus. I saw they wanted like $26 for it when I knew it was half that on their website or on Amazon so I passed on it. Then I looked through the rest of the Sports section. I then proceeded to check out the bargain section. Then the Biography section. Then the Current Events section. Then the History. World War II. Civil War. Magazine. Fiction/Literature. Science Fiction/Fantasy. Classics.

I then realized it was 5pm and left empty-handed because I decided my 40+ unread books that I already had at home was enough.

I love book stores.

Wow, this woman's mom is not helping her (My 600 Pound Life). I guess she probably thinks it's "tough love" but it's just brutal.

My grandfather's sister was well over 400 lbs when she died. I wasn't alive yet, but I hear that the weight shifted & my uncle buckled dropped his part of the casket. CRASH!

I think it's a pretty telling commentary on our society when an Ohio high school gets shot up and it doesn't get posted here. Seems like when this board was first started, these things would be big news. Now, it's just another shooting and doesn't require a thread - unless the death toll is huge.

I always find with books like that (ie, reference type), it is better to get them on physical form than ebook form.

I don't normally buy this book, so I decided to try it out cheap.

Was flipping through channels and found T3 on, while not that good of a movie, it's rekindled my love of Claire Danes. Rawr.

i think another factor is that I don't really think anyone here lives in that area. There's maybe one or two Cleveland people that even post here, and Chardon is maybe 20-30 minutes away from there.

I actually noticed how relatively blase the coverage has been on this one myself.

It's currently 6th among today's headlines at AJC.com and hasn't really been a top story there all day, actually getting less play than the coroner's ruling of homicide in the case of the fight between the 10-11 year old girls in California. It's actually been mentioned by exactly one person on my FB friend's list all day, also somewhat unusual.

I think at this point these incidents at least feel so commonplace that they aren't particularly shocking anymore.

Leap Day is like extra time in a shitty soccer match that everyone wants to be over. Or like ending a meaningless football game on an untimed down cause a game can't end on a defensive penalty.

So, my boss mentions today that he's going to take tomorrow off because they only pay him for 365 days per year not 366. I think he was joking, mostly.

My wife is salaried and her text was something to the effect of "I figure I'm paid every year for 365.25 days and this is just the year I have to actually work that day"

I'm paid salary, but my paycheck specifically says I get paid $xx.xx an hour... So I should raise a stink that I'm not getting that pay...

I always love when someone brings a payment request on a Monday and says "We need this by Friday", then comes back on Tuesday and says "do you have it ready yet?".

Celebrate on the 28th.

Also, in the U.S. most legal documents (i.e. driver licenses) that are tied to a date of birth expire on the 28th in a non-leap year.

Or they use the term ASAP. So 'As Soon As Possible'? What if the soonest possible is 3 Fridays from now?

Exactly. What if the printer ink isn't scheduled to arrive until the 27th of March? I can't even keep count of how many times I've had to remind people that ASAP, does not equal, right away or immediately.

Feeling guilty because in the span of an hour I signed up for MLB.TV, MiLB.TV, MLS Live, and got a lifetime Play-On license. Tax season is good for something at least.

The first couple of paragraphs especially.

Unfortunately, this is not hard at all to believe (and can probably be proven by countless FO...internet argument threads).

Watching CBS News and they are interviewing the family of one of the kids that died in the school shooting in Ohio. Absolutely devastating watching this poor family.

But, the lady giving the interview. I'm paraphrasing here, because about halfway through the question blood rose to my head and I blacked out I think from anger/frustration/?

"Did you ever think you'd be at a funeral home preparing your sons funeral?"

God damn, whenever I hear these types of fucking questions I just want to scream. THESE ARE NOT HARD HITTING QUESTIONS THAT NEED TO BE ASKED. THE ANSWER IS OBVIOUS.

The Bobcats have four wins in the first half of the season. As much as Isaiah Thomas gets ripped on for his GM type skills, I'm surprised Jordan doesn't get ripped on more.

I'm hoping this is good. Especially since Ridely Scott is directing.

This is why I've all but stopped watching TV news. Even READING the news is painful these days, but with TV news (ESPECIALLY local news though national's getting pretty bad, too), they feel a need to say things. And they're never things that need saying.

I'm the same way TK. Very rarely watch any news on tv anymore. They have about the same talent level as reality tv stars do.

Since college, I've been of the belief that there are 4 levels of knowledge (from bottom up):
1) Low competence, low confidence: Ignorant
2) Low competence, high confidence: Overconfident
3) High competence, low confidence: Overwhelmed
4) High competence, high confidence: Master

You start out completely ignorant on a topic but early on, you learn enough that you think you know enough about a topic to get by (up to level 2). However, that's when you're most dangerous as you think you know a lot but clearly don't. Sometimes gradually, sometimes all at once, you gain more knowledge and reach that point where you're staring down the rabbit hole and realize just how ignorant you were. At that point, you finally have a grasp on the scope of the issue/topic and explore it fully until you reach subject mastery.

Got a call from a friend today... A few hours later I'm looking at him in the hospital, recovering from a heart attack & quintuple bypass. When he said he had a heart attack, even though he sounded weak as hell I had to ask WHO had a heart attack.

38-year-olds should NOT be having heart attacks. WTF!

Over the weekend a 42 y/o cop died of a heart attack in the little town I used to live in. At the time he was talking to his wife about on the phone about going back to the E.R. to get checked out again (he'd been earlier but was released after an exam for chest pains didn't turn up anything more than elevated b.p.)

Not that big a jump from 38 to 42, I think heart attacks are just getting to be a younger & younger thing.
