So I danced with a hot 18 year old girl tonight

Normally this would be a case of dancing banana time, but I was drunk enough to realize that it doesn't matter anymore. I'm too fucking old. I'm 26, almost 27 and have accomplished very little in my life.

I'm the epitome of a loser.

I could expand more, but really, who gives a fuck? I'm just some random guy on the internet who 90% of you think is queer anyway so it doesn't matter, kind of like how I don't matter.

So yeah and stuff.

I try not too give too much unsolicited advice, but you might want to get back on your meds and not mix alcohol with them. I hope you feel better soon.

No, there's different levels of drunkeness. While on a normal night when I drink (the few nights that I do drink) I get drunk enough to achieve a state of motor impairment, tonight I've been drinking hard liquor steadily since around 5 pm. This allows me to transcend the normal state of drunkeness to a higher level, the stage of inebriation where I'm able to perceive truths normally inacessible to me in my sober state.

I went off my medication long enough so that it's passed out of my bloodstream. I don't mix medication and alcohol. The one time I did, several years ago, I felt like such shit the day after that I swore never to mix them again.

I never black out. I may fall asleep occasionally, but in those instances I'm always consciously aware that I'm falling sleep.

My last bit of unsolicited advice: Many psychiatric medications don't work nearly as well when you restart them if you stop them for a few days for any reason, including taking a break to drink alcohol. Anyway, I really do hope you feel better soon.

Thanks, though you've no doubt encountered bipolar patients in your profession and so you know we're never wholly better. We just have days where the roller coaster is kinder to us than others.

See, you never rid yourself entirely of a mental disorder. It'll always be there... the only thing you can learn to do is control it.

Alcoholism and co-dependancy are entirely different kettles of fish from something like bipolar disorder.

The first two are behaviour-based, the latter is chemically based.

Yeah, dude, you should just put an end to it all now. What good are you?

Sheesh, man, you're 26!!! Do you have any idea how much life is still ahead of you? There's a whole lot of it. But even what there is of it, you shouldn't waste bitching and moaning about the past and what you have (or have not) done so far with your life.

Live every day for that day and the ones ahead. Fuck the past.

I just wanted to say thanks guys for the indirect encouragement. I'll admit that because of the social circles in which I travel, 26 to me seems really old, so that causes me to lose perspective sometimes.

As odd as this may sound, the fraternity life helps me immensely. It gives me a social group, networking opportunities for future employment, and provides people that I can turn to outside of my family and the Internet if I'm having problems with things. Without the fraternity, I'd be holed up in that offcampus apartment all the time, never doing anything, never going anywhere, and being envious of people.

Hell, just the fact that I'm in the fraternity gave me the courage to ask this really gorgeous girl to Formal. She said yes and although she later had to cancel due to a very close friend's having a 21st birthday dinner party last night, the fact that a girl that incredible said yes was still a confidence booster. Without the fraternity, I wouldn't have had the balls to ask her, nor would I have had a formal to ask her to.

This is just my .02, because I'm in a similar situation (27 in April...) and while I can't say that I have a lot of the same issues, but I would think that part of feeling "old" is because you're hanging out with so many kids who are under 23. I won't stereotype the fraternity lifestyle (despite wanting to...) but I will say that its really hard to get some perspective.

These kids can't relate to your life, where you are and what your goals might be. In some ways, sure. But it's really a huge disconnect and it makes it really difficult for someone at this age. (Which incidentally, isn't that old.)

My dad always says "you're not old, but not that young either." Which totally means that you just need to keep things in perspective about what you want to do and where you want to be.

I mean, hanging out with girls who are young and stuff might be where you are right now. But as someone who wasn't exactly the social butterfly in HS, it can be alluring to be part of "something". But I would submit to you that there are plenty of other more constructive ways to do that, certainly more than paying to hang out with kids who ultimately aren't in the same place in their lives -- whether it seems that way or not -- that you are.

Here's a thought. If you weren't brothers with these folks (or wearing said letters on your shirts) would these people be the ones that you could hang out with otherwise?

I mean, it's not my business. But this is a public forum, you post here and so, I just figured I'd give my .02, because I can relate.

Nobody likes me, everybody hates me,
Guess I'll go eat worms,
Long, thin, slimy ones; Short, fat, juicy ones,
Itsy, bitsy, fuzzy wuzzy worms.

Down goes the first one, down goes the second one,
Oh how they wiggle and squirm.
Up comes the first one, up comes the second one,
Oh how they wiggle and squirm.

Nobody likes me, everybody hates me,
Guess I'll go eat worms

I could expand more, but really, who gives a fuck? I'm just some random guy on the internet who 90% of you think is queer anyway so it doesn't matter, kind of like how I don't matter.

So yeah and stuff.
You could tell her about your amazing Crusader Kings dynasties...those made me like you, maybe it would work on her too

Hell, I'm 21 and I feel somewhat apprehensive about dancing with 18 year olds.
