John Somers Winner in Continental League

Seasoned by several years of professional experience, 28-year-old John Somers put together a solid offensive month for Brooklyn and was crowned April's top batter in the Continental League.

He batted .343 with 5 home runs, 15 RBIs and 17 runs scored.

Torrid April Gets Hernández RL #1 Batter Trophy

Ramón Hernández battered Republic League pitchers all April and wound up taking home the Batter of the Month Award.

"I've been around Front Office Offseason League long enough to know you really have to work hard day in and day out to be able to put up this kind of consistency," the 25-year-old Hernández told reporters. "I put in a lot of work, even on the days I might not take the field, and it's always nice when everything comes together for me like it did this last month."

In 27 games, Hernández hit .383 with 4 home runs, 21 RBIs and scored 23 runs.

Javier Hernández has made fans throughout Front Office Offseason League take notice over the past month with an exceptional 3-0 record. No pitcher in the Continental League threw better in April, garnering him the Pitcher of the Month award today.

In 6 starts Hernández compiled a 1.48 ERA, putting up a 3-0 record, striking out 31 and tossing 42.2 innings.

Manchego Is April's Best RL Hurler

Ricardo Manchego's been around the league long enough to appreciate the honor he received today. After going 4-1 in April, the 32-year-old Tokyo hurler has been named Republic League Pitcher of the Month.

He fanned 35 in 47.1 innings, logged an ERA of 1.52 and allowed opponents to hit .198 against him.

Continental League Names Rookie of Month

A veritable toddler to the Continental League, Ramón Fuentes just sewed up the Rookie of the Month trophy for April.

Over the past month the 24-year-old center fielder for Napa Valley hit .262 with 22 hits, 8 home runs and 12 RBI. He also logged 13 walks and compiled a .374 on-base percentage.

Ángel Rea is still a bit shy, but then, who could blame the newest Republic League Rookie of the Month honoree? He hasn't been around the league long enough to fully know the ropes yet, despite the fact that he's putting up veteran-like numbers.

In April the Hartford hitter tagged opposing pitching for a .279 average with 31 hits, 6 home runs and 24 RBIs.

Dickson Awarded May's CL Top Bat Prize

When Bruce Dickson stepped up to the plate in May, he did it with confidence and today he was honored with the Continental League Batter of the Month award.

The young Noblesville left fielder posted a .360 batting average with 8 home runs, 30 RBIs and scored 15 runs. Dickson also worked pitchers for 7 walks to post a .385 on-base percentage.

This season Dickson is hitting at a .317 pace with 16 home runs, 60 RBIs and has scored 37 times.

Justin Buckley Named Best RL Batter in May

Nobody was better with the bat in May!
Justin Buckley caught everyone's attention with some hot hitting and today he came away with the Batter of the Month award.

Ann Arbor's center fielder put together a solid month with a .345 batting average, 8 home runs, 17 RBIs and 27 runs scored.

On the year Buckley is hitting .335 with 74 hits, 13 home runs, 34 RBIs, .413 OBP and has scored 46 runs.

CL Picks May's Top Pitcher

"The kid had it all working last month," a veteran teammate told reporters. "He keeps up those kind of numbers, we might have to start inviting him out with us after the games."

Wen-huan Lian put together a very solid month to take home the Continental League's top pitching honor in May.

The 24-year-old reliever threw like a veteran. In 16 relief appearances he raked in no saves and 25 strikeouts in 21.2 innings as he put together his 6-0 record and 2.08 ERA.

This year Lian has chalked up 32 relief appearances, worked 37.1 innings, struck out 40 and issued 12 walks. He has no saves with a 3.13 ERA and a 6-0 won-lost mark.

Ann Arbor's Starter Receives RL Pitching Award

Despite the number of years he's been in the league, Dani Gómez still gets excited when he puts together a quality stretch like he had in May. The 33-year-old starter for Ann Arbor was named Republic League Pitcher of the Month earlier today.

He collected 5 wins and no losses with 22 strikeouts in his 6 starts, putting up a fine 1.67 ERA in 37.2 innings of work.

In 12 starts this season Gómez has gathered 7 wins while suffering 1 loss. He has pitched 71.1 innings, allowed 62 hits, struck out 54 and has a 2.27 ERA.

May's Best Rookie Named by CL

Miguel Vargas's eyes seem to light up whenever he sees the baseball. The young Apex second baseman has been hitting everything in sight for the better part of a month.

In May he was voted the Rookie of the Month Award.

During the month he hit .257 with 8 doubles, 2 triples and 4 home runs. Vargas also scored 15 times and drove in 11 runs.

Currently Vargas is batting .227 with 46 hits and 11 home runs. He has knocked in 23 runs and scored 27 times.

John Burns earned May's Rookie of the Month honors in the Republic League for last month's performance. The boyish Colorado first baseman might be wet behind the ears, but he's proving that he has what it takes to play at this level.

Burns hit .330 with 4 home runs, 13 RBIs and 13 runs scored this past month on his way to winning the award.

For the year Burns is batting .310 with 58 hits and 9 home runs. He has scored 24 times and driven in 29.

Gracía of Leduc CL Batter of the Month

A hot-hitting Sixto Gracía punished CL pitchers in June, hitting .421 in 27 games while racking up 7 home runs, 19 RBIs and 16 runs scored.

With those numbers it came as no surprise that Leduc's 25-year-old catcher earned Continental League Batter of the Month honors.

A look at his current stats shows Gracía with a .370 average, 11 home runs, 35 RBIs and 36 runs scored. He has played in 81 games.

Rodríguez Grabs RL Best Batter Award for June

Though his face is weathered and his hands are calloused, Carlos Rodríguez can still get it done in Front Office Offseason League. In fact, the 35-year-old first baseman for Atlanta was named the Republic League Batter of the Month today after putting up an impressive performance at the plate.

In June he batted .424 with 7 home runs, 24 RBIs and 23 runs scored.

Rodríguez is hitting .379 for the season with 12 home runs, 56 RBIs and 47 runs scored. He has 106 hits in 280 at-bats and played in 81 games.

Hernández Stands Out, Choice for Best Pitcher

June's top-rated pitcher was Pablo Hernández of Halifax Winter Wolves. He demoralized Continental League hitters in posting a 5-1 record and captured the Pitcher of the Month award.

In 6 starts, Hernández limited opposing batters to a .188 average. He rang up 30 strikeouts in 41.2 innings of work, issued 13 walks, and crafted a 2.59 ERA.

In 17 starts this season Hernández has crafted a 10-2 record with a 2.85 ERA.

RL Selects García June's Best Starter

As Jesús García hoisted up the Republic League Pitcher of the Month trophy for June, rumors have already begun to swirl about whether he will leave Tokyo once his contract is up at the end of the season.

García put pressure on the Catfish to keep him around by posting a 4-0 record and an ERA of 1.93 over 42 innings last month. He also rolled up 27 strikeouts, increasing his value both to Tokyo and to every other team in the league.

In 18 starts this season García has registered a 7-4 record and a 3.40 ERA.

Great Month for CL Rookie

Youngster Kuniyoshi Sato emerged as the latest Continental League Rookie of the Month today. The young man from Noblesville deserved the honor, batting .313 with 10 home runs and 20 runs batted in. Is the month of June a harbinger of things to come or just a fluke? We'll find out someday, but for now, we'll just let Sato enjoy the limelight.

Thus far this year Sato is batting .279 with 19 home runs, 54 RBIs and 45 runs scored.

Burns Snags Rookie of Month Trophy

In June Colorado first baseman John Burns was named Rookie of the Month in the Republic League.

Last month Burns posted a .343 average with 35 hits, 8 home runs and 24 RBIs.

Looking at his present stats, Burns has compiled a .322 batting average in 70 games with a .342 on-base percentage, while hitting 17 home runs and driving in 53 runs.

Villanueva Named CL Batter of the Month

Felipe Villanueva really put on a show in July, earning the Batter of the Month Award in the Continental League!

The Leduc center fielder batted .358 with 6 home runs, 22 RBIs, 15 runs scored, along with 8 walks to compile a .404 on-base percentage.

Presently Villanueva is batting .267 with 18 home runs and 66 RBIs. He has played in 106 games and scored 45 times.

Marsh Earns July's Top Batter Prize in RL

The Republic League has made it official -- Elliott Marsh is the winner of the Batter of the Month trophy.

In July, the Hartford first baseman starred with a .400 batting average, 9 home runs and 30 RBIs. Marsh also had 4 walks, posted a .439 on-base percentage and scored 16 times.

For the year Marsh has hit .295 with 21 home runs, 82 RBIs and scored 62 runs.

Marchand Top CL Starter in July

Harry Marchand really put his best foot forward in July with 5 wins and no losses and walked off with the Pitcher of the Month honors in the Continental League. When he got the start for the Brooklyn Brownstones, it was good news for his club, but bad news for the opposition.

In 33.2 innings of work, Marchand limited opposing batters to 29 base hits and a .227 batting average. He notched 31 strikeouts, issued 1 walks and had a 1.60 ERA.

Marchand has started 25 times this year, pitched 153.1 innings, fanned 142 batters and walked 20. His current record is 10 wins and 2 losses with a 2.29 ERA.

Werner RL's #1 Pitcher in July

The Pitcher of the Month Award has been announced and the Republic League winner is Omaha hurler, Ray Werner. For his standout performances in July he has been named the league's best pitcher.

During the month, Werner excelled with a 2.16 ERA and 4 wins and 1 loss. In 41.2 innings he struck out 29 and gave up 32 hits and 9 walks.

This year Werner has recorded a 7-9 mark. In 21 starts he has fanned 84 batters in 130 innings with a 4.85 ERA.

Noblesville Catcher July's Best Rookie

Kuniyoshi Sato made quite a few headlines in July. The 23-year-old earned Rookie of the Month recognition in the Continental League by putting up a strong numbers from start to finish.

Last month he compiled a .305 average with 29 hits, 2 home runs, 8 RBIs and 17 runs scored.

In 105 games this season Sato has batted at a .285 pace with 114 hits and 21 home runs.

Ybarra Honored by Republic League
Wednesday, August 1st, 2210
Octávio Ybarra had a fine July against Republic League pitchers and was acclaimed the league's Rookie of the Month today.

The Toronto right fielder walloped the opposition with 30 hits, 5 home runs, 13 RBIs and 15 runs scored. He compiled a .337 average and .362 on-base percentage.

This year Ybarra has hit at a .299 pace and produced 41 RBIs, 13 home runs and scored 48 runs.

Bruce Dickson of the Noblesville Millers swung a mean bat for the last 30 days and was acclaimed the Continental League Batter of the Month for August.

The 25-year-old left fielder slapped out a .359 batting average, 7 home runs, 25 RBIs, 24 runs scored and a .419 on-base percentage.

In his 2210 season totals, Dickson has 29 home runs, .322 BA, .371 OBP, 116 RBIs and 89 runs scored.

Veteran José Gonzáles put together quite a successful stretch in August for the Brooklyn Brownstones, earning himself the Continental League Pitcher of the Month award.

Gonzáles racked up a 4-0 record in 7 starts, posting a 0.55 ERA over 48.2 innings and striking out 35.

Season-to-date Gonzáles has rung up 13 wins and 9 losses in 33 appearances. He has an ERA of 2.47 and has fanned 163 batters in 196.2 innings.

Salas Gets RL #1 Pitcher Trophy

Lorenzo Salas certainly found a groove in August. The Hammersmith starter posted 5 wins last month to easily claim the Republic League Pitcher of the Month.

During the month Salas was 5-0 with a 0.74 ERA. He made 5 starts, tossed 36.2 innings and had 30 strikeouts.

Looking at his season stats, Salas has won 11 and lost 7, collecting 137 strikeouts and 15 walks in 183.2 innings with a 2.45 ERA.

Kuniyoshi Sato certainly made his presence felt in the Continental League in August. The gifted catcher for Noblesville ripped opposing pitchers for a .298 batting average and was the top votegetter for the Rookie of the Month trophy.

He won it by going 31-104 in 28 games with 6 home runs, 17 RBIs and 16 runs scored.

Presently Sato is batting .288 with 145 hits and 27 home runs. He has knocked in 79 runs and scored 78 times.

Fernando Gómes earned top rookie honors in the Republic League with a solid performance last month.

In August the Omaha second baseman posted a .293 average while racking up 27 hits, 2 home runs and 14 RBIs.

In 125 games this year Gómes has posted a .256 average and put up these numbers: 16 home runs, 61 RBIs and 59 runs scored.

Wen-huan Lian put together a very solid month to take home the Continental League's top pitching honor in May. The 24-year-old reliever threw like a veteran. In 16 relief appearances he raked in no saves and 25 strikeouts in 21.2 innings as he put together his 6-0 record and 2.08 ERA. This year Lian has chalked up 32 relief appearances, worked 37.1 innings, struck out 40 and issued 12 walks. He has no saves with a 3.13 ERA and a 6-0 won-lost mark. The young Apex second baseman has been hitting everything in sight for the better part of a month. In May he was voted the Rookie of the Month Award. During the month he hit .257 with 8 doubles, 2 triples and 4 home runs. Vargas also scored 15 times and drove in 11 runs. Currently Vargas is batting .227 with 46 hits and 11 home runs. He has knocked in 23 runs and scored 27 times. May's Premier Rookie Named by RL Friday, June 1st, 2210 John Burns earned May's Rookie of the Month honors in the Republic League for last month's performance. The boyish Colorado first baseman might be wet behind the ears, but he's proving that he has what it takes to play at this level.
