IWS #83 Results
Interesting bunch. Lets get to the questions.
1. Name a baseball player that played with one team his entire pro MLB career. Cal Ripken, Jr. 17 Ted Williams 6 Tony Gwynn 3 Mickey Mantle 3 Mike Schmidt 2 Craig Biggio 1 George Brett 1 Joe Dimaggio 1 Lou Gehrig 1 Barry Larkin 1 Kirby Puckett 1 Alex Rodriguez 1 Cy Young 1 This one was close, until the final seven submitted answers all had Ripken, helping him run away with this. 2. Name a football player that played with one team his entire pro NFL career. John Elway 13 Barry Sanders 9 Dan Mario 7 Walter Payton 4 Lawrence Taylor 2 Troy Aikman 1 Jim Brown 1 Darrell Green 1 Steve Young 1 Much like Q1, Elway grabbed home the last 5 to pass Sanders as the most common answer. 3. Name a basketball player that played with one team his entire pro NBA career. Larry Bird 16 Magic Johnson 8 Michael Jordan 7 David Robinson 2 John Stockton 2 Julius Erving 1 Patrick Ewing 1 Bill Laimbeer 1 Reggie Miller 1 This was a two horse race between Bird and Magic, but Bird got 7 answers late while Magic got none, and also Michael Jordan wraps up 7. People, Jordan played for 2 teams. I hope you know this. 4. Name a company that makes TVs. Sony 29 Magnavox 3 Panasonic 2 RCA 2 General Electric 1 Sharp 1 Toshiba 1 I didn't really see this coming but in hindsight I shouldn't have asked this question as Sony beat the competitors all over the place here, in a huge landslide. 5. Name a movie Brad Pitt was in. Fight Club 19 Troy 11 Se7en 6 Ocean's Eleven 2 Troy got plenty of answers I'm thinking because it's his latest big release. What, no Snatch? True Romance? Meet Joe Black!??! 6. Estimate how many unique visitors there are at Google every day. 1,000,000 14 100,000,000 4 1,000,000,000 3 4,000,000 2 10,000,000 2 20,000,000 2 0 1 50,000 1 100,000 1 250,000 1 1,200,000 1 2,000,000 1 3,000,000 1 5,000,000 1 6,000,000 1 25,000,000 1 34,200,000 1 50,000,000 1 The smart people put their money on 1M and turned out to get the most common answers. Zero was clever but no one else thought of that. The Results Are In! The following did well, but did not place. Code:
In third place... TOKEN ASIAN GUY - 17x9x16x29x11x14 for 10,932,768 Token Asian Guy was the first to submit, and in his very first IWS comes out in 3rd! Nice job. And in a tie for 1st... QUIKSAND AND SOLECISMIC 17x13x16x29x11x14 for 15,791,776 (57.9%) Questions now linger about the identity of one QuikSand, who gets the exact same answers as the genius we know as Jim Gindin. Are these two one in the same? All I know is that they both have won! So congratulations. Last edited by korme : 08-26-2004 at 04:00 PM. |

I think the Snatch crowd and the Fight Club crowd are one in the same, and it seemed obviouisthat Fight Club would be the more popular answer between the two. I am suprised that not a single person said it though.
Good questions, and, at least I beat Oliegirl this time. Grats Jim/Quik! |

The Wizards aren't really an NBA team so that time doesn't count on his record.

Wasn't Elway drafted by the Colts ? That's why I didn't submit him but Marino... As for the NBA question, shame on me for missing the great 80s guys...
EDIT, Of course Elway was drafted by the Baltimore Colts, but didn't play for them... http://football.about.com/cs/legends/p/johnelway.htm Born: June 28, 1960 Drafted: • First pick overall of the 1983 NFL Draft by the Baltimore Colts. • His rights were traded by the Colts to the Denver Broncos on May 2, 1983, for QB Mark Herrmann, the rights to OL Chris Hinton, and a first-round pick in the 1984 NFL Draft. Years Played: 1983-1998 Position Played: Quarterback Played For: Denver Broncos Last edited by Alf : 08-26-2004 at 04:47 PM. |

I just think you misinterpreted it then. Because as the question suggests, name a player that played his entire career for one team. Technically, while John was drafted by the Colts he never stepped onto the field as a Colt, only as a Bronco. That's also why I added the word pro, "pro MLB career", for example, because as most know in baseball minor leaguers get shuffled around quite a bit, and I'm sure some listed here weren't drafted by the team they played their entire career for. |

I would have tied to if not for the last question..
fwiw.. I do not like that type of question for IWS, seems more like an guesstimates question... but, no hard feelings... i seem to have done this a bit lately... all top answers but one bottom answer...

Those two last questions saved me from a bottom dweller finish.

I figured Tony Gwynn would have gotten more love than just 3. I guess I was alittle biased though because he was my one of my favorite players growing up.

I really thought I had the top answer on each question. I can't believe I went with Troy over Fight Club. I can't count how many times someone on here has quoted Fight Club. I also went with Ted Williams. Cal Ripken never occurred to me, and I actually thought about that question for a while. Not a bad showing, so I can't be too upset.
