Why make the post at all if you're tagging on the "I could be wrong tho" bit?

You think it is going to be a blowout? Stand up and proclaim it. If it ends up that way, you can say you called it during the first half. If it doesn't, you can take the heat.

Luc Longley? Does that mean that every basketball player from Australia is named some variation of Luke? Is Luk Dundee far behind?

Some of the things people on this board come up with on a moments' notice kind of scares me sometimes.

I count 5 Lukes out of 80 names (6.3%). Assuming that Luke is a popular name in Australia for girls as well as boys (which I don't think is too far-fetched) there should be around 1,264,125 Lukes in the country.

That my friends, is a helluva lot of Lukes.

I wonder why Tech didn't start fouling earlier? That little guy started nailing the threes...they got it to within 5.

If we had a few of those shots fall in the first half rather than waiting for the last two minutes, we might have had something there.

We had a guy in high school who was a Aussie exchange student and I think his name was Luke.

He came over just to play basketball in the US and hopefully get a scholarship to a school.

Yeah. At least most 'experts' were predicting a double-digit loss, so they did one better than that.

I'm disappointed with the way they played tonight, but not about the season. If UConn had lost, they would have been looked at as failures, but Tech still comes out a winner. They were picked to finish 7th in the ACC at the beginning of the season...UConn was a preseason #1, as I recall.

They might have had a chance if they didn't keep brain-cramping at the offensive end. Both Jack and (crap, name left me, the Arizona transfer) were out of control for most of the game it seemed like.

I also wonder why Hewitt didn't order fouling sooner. I kind of begrudge the double-bonus rule because of things like this. It gives teams who are weak on free throws an out. IMO, the rule should change to one-and-one through 14 fouls, then the team getting fouled gets the choice of two shots or one shot and the ball (perhaps no choice, just two shots and the ball). It should at least speed up the game (the intent of the double-bonus), but also makes the weaker FT shooting teams work a bit more.

That would make things UGLY, though - since that's already the penalty for an intentional foul; there's no reason not to really hack a guy on a breakaway.

Anyone read Jason Whitlock's article this morning? He insists on shitting on the college game and says UConn and Okafor aren't anything special. He basically goes as far as saying UConn is terrible and anyone can dominate the college game today using 'Melo, a freshman, as an example. Did Whitlock also miss the fact that Carmelo is also scoring 18+ in the pros?

I suppose that's true. I'm trying to think of a way to penalize both poor FT shooting teams and teams who unnecessarily try to extend the game (the original reason for the double-bonus). How about over 7 fouls is one-and-one, except in the last two minutes where it's two shots unless the fouling team has less than 10 (14?) fouls at that point, in which case it's still one-and-one. As it stands, the double-bonus hasn't really prevented teams from hacking away at the end and I think lengthens the game because two shots are guaranteed rather than make one to get another, which a miss on the first will start the clock sooner.

Dude, it's Whitlock. The only surprising thing is that he didn't have an article opposite Posnanski finding every cloud surrounding the silver lining from yesterday's Royals game.
