IWS #51 - Results
Results for IWS #51:
1. Name the worst quarterback who currently has a starting job in the NFL. With 14 different answer, including six 1's and three 2's, this one eliminated a lot of people early. Oddly enough, the leading vote-getter was someone who isn't actually starting these days. Kordell Stewart - 12 Danny Kanell - 5 Kyle Boller - 5 Donovan McNabb - 4 Jay Feidler - 3 Chris Chandler - 2 Kurt Kittner - 2 Quincy Carter - 2 Jake Delhomme - 1 Jon Kitna - 1 Vinny Testeverde - 1 Jeff Blake - 1 Doug Johnson - 1 Tommy Maddox - 1 2. Name the team that will win the Stanley Cup this season. Another eliminator question, since if you didn't pick one of the top two you didn't score very well in the contest. Apparently the Stanley Cup is heading west this year, as all but one vote went to teams from the Western conference. The consensus expert pick, Ottawa, got only one vote. And not one of you could throw me a bone and pick the Leafs. Screw all of you. Detroit Red Wings - 19 Colorado Avalanche - 17 Anaheim - Ducks - 2 Vancouver Canucks - 1 Ottawa - Senators - 1 St. Louis Blues - 1 3. Past or present, name a professional wrestler other than Hulk Hogan. This was probably predictable, given recent publicity over his movie. I was a little surpised at how few votes Ventura received. The Rock - 17 Andre the Giant - 5 Ric Flair - 5 Randy Macho Man Savage - 3 Stone Cold Steve Austin - 3 Jesse Ventura - 2 Undertaker - 2 Bret Hart - 1 Bill Goldberg - 1 Jerry "The King" Lawler - 1 Hawk - 1 Name the best current offensive lineman in the NFL. Ugh. Another one that turned into a two-answer race, with both answers ending up so close that it didn't make much difference to the overall score. We could probably draw some conclusions from how many of these guys are veterans. I guess it takes time to build a reputation when you're a lineman. Jonothan Ogden - 16 Orlando Pace - 15 Larry Allen - 3 Willie Roaf - 3 Tarik Glenn - 1 Matt Birk - 1 Olin Kreutz - 1 Kevin Mawae - 1 5. Name the greatest sports movie of all time. Lots of possibilities here, including some that didn't star Kevin Costner. Oddly enough, of the four people who answered "Rocky" to this question, only one also picked Rocky (aka The Rock) in the wrestler question. Draw your own conclusions. I got nothing. Field of Dreams - 13 Bull Durham - 6 Rudy - 4 Rocky - 4 Hoosiers - 4 The Natural - 3 Major League - 2 Caddyshack - 2 Raging Bull - 1 The Longest Yard - 1 Jerry Maguire - 1 6. Name a sport that gets a lot of attention, but that you honestly couldn't care less about. Several people nominated leagues like the WNBA instead of sports. Since the question said "name a sport", I grouped those answers together. One interesting note on this question was the number of people who felt the need to mention that they didn't actually agree with their own answer, but were trying to guess what the majority would think. That may have contributed to the pretty even spread on this one. Soccer - 9 WNBA/basketball - 8 NASCAR/Auto racing - 6 Hockey - 6 Baseball - 6 Golf - 4 Boxing - 1 Tennis - 1 |

Those were some good questions - no research needed, and still got even distributions.

I have to admit I was wrong about a first-time winner. On a first look, I thought that Shorty had won it. But in doing the final list, one person charged past to take the crown.
Top score would have been 7,255,872. And the winner is... Code:

OK, SkyDog, you know what to do.
I am, of course, referring to the mandatory banning of the four who named "Rudy" as best sports movie ever.

If I had chosen Ogden or Pace in the OL question, I would have won this damn thing. Damn.

So it's actually a good thing that Kittner didn't get many votes. |

It's worth pointing out that we had 41 entries (one of the highest numbers ever), and yet nobody had the same score. No ties at all. Weird.

I've actually tied for a win, too. How easy we forget.

In that case, I'm glad I'm the only other person who picked Kittner, but I really hope to win one of these some day. |

Hit-and-miss on this one. Got half right and the other half horribly wrong. Ugh.

I was perfect on 4 out of 6. Only missing the obvious QB call and on the meaningless 2nd wrestler...
Great questions. Easy to answer, but still difficult enough ! |

Yeah, but I was one of those people that fit under Maple Leafs description of "One interesting note on this question was the number of people who felt the need to mention that they didn't actually agree with their own answer, but were trying to guess what the majority would think." SI

I'd really love to host another IWS, but I just don't have time this week (as odd as that sounds) as another wonderful project is due in my data structures class. So, if panerd or Shorty would like to, it's all theirs. It's just that I tend to take a couple of hours trying to come up with questions that will be fun and people will actually participate in (c'mon guys- if you have to google, it's just not fun- participation numbers bear this out) and that have a theme and I just don't have that time this week.
SI

Go ahead Shorty, it's all yours. But you need to limit the number of Cincincinati questions.
