Now, we host a 1-2 Washington State team that is below average on offense and bad on defense.

They elect to kickoff to us. The 1st play of the game, Corp underthrows a man deep and their linebacker picks it off. On 4th and 3, our linebacker nails their HB, he fumbles, and Maiava picks it up and returns it to their 20. Fisher drops a 3rd down pass. Our kicker hits the upright on a 38 yard FG attempt. 0-0 still. Watson picks off a pass that was poorly thrown on 3rd and 16.. he returns it to the 7. We get stuffed on 3rd and goal from the 2. Our young offensive line is struggling quite a bit today. We kick the short FG to make it 3-0.

1st pass of their next drive, Pauly, our freshman picks it off. He returns it to their 12. 2 plays later, Corp throws it to Franklin for a 4 yard TD. 10-0. 3 and out. They punt away from my returner. We go 3 and out and punt. Our next drive, Garrett with a tough catch over the middle to convert 3rd and 16.

End of 1: 10-0, we lead.

Defenses dominate the early part of the 2nd quarter, as we settle for a FG and then stop them. However, on their next drive, they complete 3 big passs including a 11 yard TD pass to their TE. 13-7. We should be blowing them out. Corp gets one last shot to lead us to a TD before Cole gets some PT.

Hawthorne returns the kickoff to their 40. 1st play Corp throws a beautiful rainbow bomb that Roland Johnson catches in stride at their 20. Johnson takes it in for a TD! 20-7. Our next drive, Corp throws a little flair to the FB, Moss that bounces off his hands into a linebacker's hands and the linebacker takes it for a TD. 20-14. Wright with a 43 yard FG to make it 23-14. 2 minutes left in the half. We stop them on 4th and 1 with 19 seconds left on our 24. Edwards with a huge run. 9 seconds left and we are on their 31. Cole is in the game for this drive. Cole with a 13 yard pass to Cornelius Johnson. With 2 seconds left, we kick the 35 yard FG. 26-14 at the half.

On 3rd and 10, their QB chucks it into double coverage. Marshall Jones with the pick and he returns it 44 yards for a TD. 33-14. We stuff their HB on 3rd and 2. Cole will get a bit more PT with the 1st team. Cole scrambles to his right and then delivers a perfect pass to Ronald for 32 yards. On 3rd and 8, Cole with another great pass to Ronald Johnson for 30 yards. Now, we are on the 5. On 2nd and goal, Cole with an option pitch to Edwards for a 5 yard TD run. 40-14.

On 3rd and 1, we pop their HB and he fumbles. Jamaal Miller recovers it. We let Corp get in for one last drive. Corp leads a 12 play 48 yard drive that ends with a Edwards 1 yard TD run. 47-14.

End of 3: 47-14.

Their returner fumbles the kickoff and Jimmy Lynch picks it up and runs it in for a TD! 54-14.

Our 2nd team offense comes in for our next drive, and during Supersim, Cole leads a very nice drive ending with a 14 yard TD pass to Fisher! 61-14. Their next drive, we knock their QB out of the game with a spraine ankle. Cole with a sick option play fake to juke one defender and then he pitches it the back before the other man hits him and it leads to a 27 yard TD run by Hawthorne. 68-14.

Robinson picks off their backup QB's 1st pass that was a very weak out throw. He returns it to their 18. Hawthorne fumbles on their 2 and they recover. Pauls picks off their 2nd pass attempt and returns it for a TD. 75-14. Their backup QB is one of the worst throwers I've seen in this game.

Wow, their HB fumbles again. We recover again. 2:18 to go and I just want to run out the clock.

Game over. 75-14 win.

Corp: 13 of 20 for 169 yards with 2 TD's 2 INT's.

Cole: 6 of 10 for 139 yards with 1 TD 0 INT's.

Hawthorne: 14 carries for 126 yards and a TD.

Cole: 2 carries for 13 yards.

Ronald Johnson: 5 catches for 156 yards and a TD.

Cornelius Johnson: 3 catches for 25 yards.

Now, time to catch up to the Eagles on my DVR.

This week, there are multiple undefeated teams high in the polls facing off including Florida and LSU. Meanwhile, we are traveling to play a Washington team that is 3-1 behind a high powered offense. However, their defense is below average. It is cold and sunny up here in Washington. Corp was leading a good drive until he threw a pick to their linebacker inside the 20. They miss a 30 yard FG as it hits the upright. However, I'm concerned how easily they moved it against us.

End of 1: We are up 7-0.

Their WR fumbles a reverse inside our 20, and we recover. 8 plays covers 77 yards including a 14 yard TD pass to Ronald Johnson. 14-0.

Their next drive, their HB fumbles inside the 20. 4 plays later, Edwards runs it in for a TD from the 6! 21-0. Our next drive, Corp hits Cornelius Johnson in stride on a corner route and he breaks a tackle and takes it down the sideline for a 48 yard TD. 28-0.

Their HB, Nate Williams, has been a key to their offense all game, but we just knocked him out of the game with a big hit from Everson Griffen. Coleman recovered a fumble earlier, and now he picks off the QB inside the 20 to save a TD.

As the half is ending, Corp finds Edwards for a 12 yard TD pass to make it 35-0. Corp has had an outstanding first half.

Halftime stats for Corp: 14 of 17 for 203 yards with 3 TD's 1 INT.

After forcing a 3 and out, our first play is a simple run up the middle in which Edwards breaks a tackle by a linebacker, then runs over a safety, and then surprisingly beats everyone down the field for a 55 yard TD!!! 42-0.

They miss a 50 yard FG attempt, and we have great field position. His last drive of the game, Corp remains nearly perfect and he scrambles for a 5 yard TD. 49-0. Marshall Jones picks off a deep pass.

Cole will get a drive with the 1st team. Cole throws a pick on his 2nd play. They take advantage of the short field with a 4 play 29 yard TD drive. 49-7.

Cole comes out with the 2nd team. 1st play is a PA pass that hits Randy Fisher in stride for a 84 yard TD!!! 56-7. After they stop us on our next drive, our punter pins them on the 1. We get a safety the next play. 58-7. A grind it out drive ends with a 4 yard TD run by Cole. 65-7. Archie picks off their next deep pass. Morris just kept gaining yardage and he ends up running it in for a TD on a 4 yard run. 72-7.

Game over. 72-7 win for us.

Corp: 19 of 23 for 257 yards with 3 TD's 1 INT.

Cole: 5 of 13 for 149 yards with 1 TD 1 INT.

Edwards: 18 carries for 129 yards and 3 TD's.

Corp: 6 carries for 53 yards and a TD.

Cole: 6 carries for 23 yards and a TD.

Hawthorne: 5 carries for 35 yards.

Patrick Morris: 2 carries for 5 yards and a TD.

Cornelius Johnson: 6 catches for 117 yards and a TD.

Ronald Johnson: 4 catches for 35 yards and a TD.

Fisher: 2 catches for 101 yards and a TD.

Timbers: 1 catch for 13 yards and 2 drops.

Bryan Burrell: 8 tackles, 3 for a loss.

Ronnie Fouch: 16 of 31 for 208 yards with 4 INT's.

Nate Williams: 15 carries for 55 yards.

I screwed up and lost a long game summary, but the brief version is this:

Today, we played Stanford at home with a big time WR visiting. I wanted to emphasize the passing game and Corp came out on fire in the first half. He played so well all game long that I never put Cole in the game. Stanford's pass offense was surprisingly effective with a lack of quality WR's, but a senior veteran QB that was very smart. In fact, he didn't thorw a pick all game long, a first for this game in a long time, until the very end of the game when he threw a desperation pass towards the endzone. Corp's high efficiency led us to an easy win.

42-19 was the final score.

Corp: 27 of 36 for 273 yards with 5 TD's 1 INT.

Corp also ran it 8 times for 51 yards and a TD.

Edwards: 28 carries for 119 yards.

4 receviers had at least 1 TD: Timbers, Cornelius Johnson, Ronald Jognson, and Terrance Franklin.

Ronald Johnson had 5 catches for 50 yards with 2 TD's.

Cornelius Johnson had 5 catches for 55 yards and a TD.

Edwards had 5 catches for 66 yards.

Burrell: 12 tackles, 4 for a loss.

Griffen had 1 sack early in the game which set an all time USC record.

Our lone pick at the end of the game was by Marshall Jones.

Stanford's Senior QB Kellen Kiilsgaard: 23 of 35 for 292 yards with 2 TD's 1 INT played very well.

Chike Amajoyi: 25 carries for 39 yards.

We lost out on one of the top tackles in the nation this week, as he chose to stay in his homestate and play for Texas. Freddie Gordon is a 6'6 300 pound 5 star Tackle.

However, we have a soft verbal from one of the most versatile athletes in the nation. He is a 5 star 6'5 200 pound CB/WR with speed from Pennsylvania who is considering USC, Pitt, and Penn State.

This upcoming week, #5 Georgia faces off against #9 Florida in an attempt to remain undefeated. Also, #3 Iowa (5-0) facs off against #7 Ohio State (6-0).

We play at a very good 5-1 ND team. They have a strong running attack and a QB who doesn't make many mistakes that has led their offense to 30th in the nation at 32 ppg. Their defense is spectacular with a great run defense and an even better pass defense. Still, they haven't faced many tams like ours and I think we can put a hit on this stats.

They have several top recruits visiting including a QB that I'm trying to get, and I'd love to ruin their visit.

The blitz gets Corp on 3rd and 3 and we go 3 and out. A great punt starts them on their 3. We stop them 3 straight plays, force a punt from the 1 which we block for a safety. 2-0. Good return starts us on their 47.

First play is a off tackle in which Edwards breaks two arm tackles and then runs over the safety and then takes it 47 yards for a TD!!! 9-0. They fumble the kickoff and Thomas recover for us! It is reversed upon review and ND keeps the ball. Maiava intercepts the 2nd pass of the drive.

Moss catches a PA pass, bowls over a linebacker, and takes it 28 yards to get inside their 13. But, they stop us the next few plays and we settle for a short FG. 12-0.

ND responds with a 14 play 62 yard drive that stalls at our 10. They kick the FG to make it 12-3. They stop us on a drive, and then fumble around midfield on their next drive. We take advantage with a 8 play 48 yard drive ending in a 6 yard TD pass to the TE. 19-3. Marshall Jones picks off their QB's 1st pass of the drive. 3 plays later, Corp runs it in for a TD from the 3. 26-3. Their cornerback returns the kickoff 99 yards for a TD. 26-11. We have a 13 play 81 yard drive that ends in a 10 yard TD run by Edwards. 33-11. Only 1:40 left in the half. They barely miss a 54 yard FG attempt and we get th ball on the 37 with 50 seconds left. 1st play is a PA pass in which they blitz 3 linebackers. Ronald Johnson is wide open and Corp throws it to him just before getting creamed.. 63 yard TD as Johnson outruns the defense! 40-11. They get a long pass to be complete before the half, but time runs out as the player runs inside our 20. No harm except to our stats.

Halftime: 40-11, we lead.

They kick a FG midway through the 3rd to make it 40-14.

End of 3: 40-14, but we are inside the 10.

1st play of the 4th, Corp scrambles for a 9 yard TD run. 47-14. That will be Corp's last play of the game. Another great game for him, but time for Cole to come into the blowout.

A FG early in the 4th makes it 50-14 after a ND fumble that gave us the ball on their 25. Against our 2nd team defense, they march down the field in just 5 plays including a 33 yard TD pass. 50-21.

Cole leads us on a 8 play 49 yard drive that ends in a FG. 53-21. 4:45 to go. It takes them 12 plays this time, burt their QB leads another TD drive against our 2nd team defense. 53-28. Cole drives us inside the 5, before we just take a knee and run out the clock.

Game over. 53-28 win.

Corp: 15 of 21 for 205 yards with 2 TD's 0 INT's.

Cole: 5 of 9 for 61 yards.

Edwards: 21 carries for 112 yards and 2 TD's.

Corp: 7 carries for 46 yards and 2 TD's.

Cole: 5 carries for 25 yards.

Ronald Johnson: 4 catches for 94 yards and a TD.

Franklin: 3 catches for 48 yards and a TD.

Moss: 2 catches for 33 yards.

Burrell: 13 tackles, 3 for a loss.

Jared McDaniel: 25 of 36 for 336 yards with 2 TD's 2 INT's.

Christian Montgomery (sophomore RB): 31 carries for 110 yards.

Florida beats Georgia to end their undefeated season in a defensive battle that ends 10-3. Georgia is now 7-1 and 10th in the polls. Florida is now 6-1 and 7th in the polls.

Ohio State won 24-14 over Iowa. Iowa is now 9th in the polls at 5-1. Ohio State is now 4th in the polls with a 7-0 record.

Top 10 Coaches Poll

1. USC (38) 7-0
2. FSU (22) 7-0
3. LSU (1) 7-0
4. Ohio State 7-0
5. Texas A&M 7-0
6. Louisville 7-0
7. Florida 6-1
8. Oklahoma 7-0
9. Iowa 5-1
10. Georgia 7-1

BCS Top 5:

1. USC
2. Florida State
3. LSU
4. Texas A&M
5. Ohio State

Stephen Gorman, the top QB in the nation who was visiting ND has now given USC a soft verbal. We'll try to wrap him up in the next week. Gorman is a 5 star QB who is 6'1 194, very mobile, but with a very big somewhat accurate arm.

We did lose out on a FB that we were lightly recruiting. Eric Powell, the #1 FB in the nation and 48th overall, a 4 star athlete went to LSU. He is from Clinton, MS. Auburn and Alabama were his other top choices.

In week 9, we have a bye. No big matchups this week.

During the bye week, we wrap up 2 of our biggest recruits, but we lose out on 2 that I wanted.

First the good news:

5 star top QB Stephen Gorman gave us a hard verbal and is now a Trojan. He is 6'1 194 and runs in the 4.4 range with good acceleration. He has a big arm with decent accuracy, but that is clearly an area that he needs to improve on. He is the top QB out of a weak class this year and will be in the mix to replace Corp next year. He chose us over Ohio State and Wisconsin. He is from Richmond, CA.

Nigel Franklin, the #2 player in the nation, a 5 star athlete from Coatesville, PA signed with us. He is 6'5" 196 pound athlete who is most natural at WR but could play corner very effectively as well. He has blazing speed, spectacular catching ability, and the most sure hands I've ever seen in a freshman receiver. I wouldn't be surprised if he starts for us next year, particularly with the departure of Ronald Johnson to the NFL. Besides, having great hands, he is very good at beating the press and already runs decent routes, but surely can improve in that area. He also has amazing leaping ability.

Now, the bad news:

We lost out on our number 2 HB choice. Charles Hopkins is a 5 star HB from Weiser, ID who chose OU over LSU and USC. He is ranked 32nd in the nation and he has a nice balance of speed ad power at 5'11 202 pounds. He also is good at picking up the blitz.

We also lost the 2nd best TE in the nation who weren't going after too hard, due to Timbers, and our current group. John Gipson is a 5 star 6'6 240 pound TE from Ada, OK. He chose Missouri over Oklahoma and Nebraska. He is a poor blocker, but a very dangerous receiver with WR type speed.

Only a few changes to the Coaches' Poll this week:

Florida lost to Kentucky 24-17 and drops down to 18 in the polls.

Iowa lost to Penn State 27-20 and drops down to 14.

Oklahoma is now 7th, Penn State is now 8th, Goergia is 9th, and Texas at 7-1 jumps to #10.

Our next game is at a 3-4 Oregon team that is struggling. They lack a good QB and he has thrown a lot of picks this year and he isn't making much yardage either. Their running atack and defense are just ok. We should blow them out.

Their HB goes down on the 1st play of the game, but he should come back later in the game. We sack their QB on the 2nd play. We stop the screen for a 2 yard loss on 3rd down. A short punt starts us on their 40. Corp throws a pick on his 2nd play after being sacked on 1st down. Their #2 HB goes down for a half on his 1st carry. We force a 3 and out. A very bad punt starts us on our 33. 1st play is a PA pass to Moss, he picks up a block from Franklin, and gains 34 yards. 10 yard pass to Cornelius Johnson for another 1st. 24 yard TD pass to Ronald Johnson. 7-0. Their 3rd string HB fumbles on his 1st carry and we recover on their 19. 15 yard pass to Franklin. 3 yard sack followed by a 7 yard TD run by Edwards. 14-0. Tony Watson with a pick on their 34 on the next drive. On 3rd and 10, Ronald Johnson catches an underneath crossing pattern, breaks a tackle, and takes it 34 yards for a TD! 21-0.

End of 1: 21-0.

After exchanging defensive stops, we run it well on our next drive which is a 4 play 65 yard drive ending in a 40 yard TD run by Edwards. 28-0. Our next drive is more balanced, but just as effective ending in a 2 yard TD run by Edwards. 35-0. They fumble on the 1st carry of their next drive. We have it on the 22 and we quickly take it in for a score ending in 1 yard TD run by Edwards. 42-0 midway through the 2nd. Our next drive is a 5 play 66 yard drive that ends with a 16 yard TD pass to Fisher! 49-0.

We force another 3 and out. 1:45 left in the half and we are on our 30. After a 18 yard pass to Franklin, the 2nd play is a 30 yard pass to Edwards in which he breaks a tackle by their safety and takes it 52 yards for a TD. 56-0. Coleman picks off the 1st pass of their next drive. We are on the 18 with 1:04 to go. A holding call negates a TD run, but Corp finds Cornelius Johnson alone in the back of the endzone as the half expires to make it 63-0.

Halftime: 63-0 and the 1st team offense is done for the day.

On the 2nd play of the half (a 2nd and 14 after they stuffed Hawthorne on 1st down), Cole sees the blitz coming, throws a perfect pass to Garrett in stride who beats the defense down the middle of the field for a 91 yard TD! 70-0. Their 1st string HB is back in the game now.

Hawthorne just had an amazing 77 yard punt return for a TD that I'll have to show in a highlight. Now 77-0:

They beat our cornerback with a deep fly route for a big gain to get to the 21. If they score, I'll put in the 2nd team defense. Midway through the 3rd, they kick a FG to make it 77-3. Late in the 3rd, Cole makes a bad pitch on the option and Oregon recovers it and runs it in for a TD. 77-10. Cole with a 19 yard scramble in which he should have gone out of bounds, but instead he tries to juke the corner. He is drilled and fumbles. Oregon recovers at midfield. We stop them on a 3 and out.

During the supersim, in the 4th quarter, Cole throws a 47 yard TD pass to Jimmy McDonald. 84-10. Our next drive, a FG makes it 87-10. Cole is hurt on the next drive, and Huston comes into the game. A great punt puts them at their 1 with 1:51 to go.

Game over. 87-10 win.

Corp: 18 of 23 for 306 yards with 5 TD's 1 INT.

Cole: 3 of 4 for 152 yards with 2 TD's 0 INT's.

Edwards: 21 carries for 116 yards and 4 TD's.

Hawthorne: 15 carries for 68 yards.

Cole: 5 carries for 24 yards.

Ronald Johnson: 4 catches for 87 yards and 2 TD's.

Edwards: 3 catches for 74 yards and a TD.

Cornelius Johnson: 3 catches for 33 yards and a TD.

True Freshman Joe Garrett: 2 catches for 105 yards and a TD.

McDonald: 1 catch for 47 yards and a TD.

True Freshman Randy Fisher: 1 catch for 16 yards and a TD.

Sophomore DT Darren Coleman: 5 tackles, 5 for a loss, 3 sacks.

Most of his yards came against our 2nd team defense, Thomas Edmonds: 11 of 30 for 153 yards with 3 INT's.

Charles Neal: 21 carries for 59 yards (despite missing most of the 1st half.)

Our next game (probably will be played tomorrow) is hosting a struggling 2-6 Oregon State team. Oregon State's defense is just terrible and we should blow them out. We'll have several big recruits there including the top HB in the nation. We are outside of his top 3, but I'm hoping we can change his mind.

A computer glitch cost me a long post, but we had a surprisingly hard time scoring on Oregon State. Or at least, we didn't score as much as I expected we would. We settled for 3 FG's and 4 TD's as we won 37-6.

Corp: 20 of 29 for 312 yards with 3 TD's 2 INT's.

Edwards: 22 carries for 73 yards with a TD.

Ronald Johnson: 7 catches for 121 yards and a TD.

After the game, we got good news as 3 recruits gave us firm verbal committments. We also lost out on 1 recruit I really wanted and 1 that was just a backup plan.

First the guys we lost out on:

QB Jesse Downs from New Orleans, LA was a backup option. He is a fast option style QB who has decent arm strength but some serious accuracy issues. He chose OU over Nebraska and Texas.

DT Tyrone Clark is a 5 star DT from Elmwood Park, IL. I wanted him and was pursuing him aggressively. The 6'4 300 pound DT is a true run stuffer. He chose Ohio State over UF and USC.

The 3 that gave us firm verbals:

Doug Henshaw is a 4 star C who was one of the top centers in the nation. He is ranked 190th overall. He is from Downey, CA. He is 6'5 290 pounds and is an impressive pass blocker with room to grow as a run blocker.

Maurice Washington was the #1 pure WR in the nation. He is from Farmville, NC. He is 5'11 175 and he chose USC over Georgia and FSU. He is a 5 star WR and is ranked 17th overall. He doesn't have elite speed, but he has incredible elusiveness, agility, acceleration, and good hands. He also runs very disciplined routes.

TE Donald Rogers is the #1 TE in the nation and number 3 player overall. He is the perfect compliment to Timbers. He is 6'3 230 pounds and is a poor blocker, but has blazing speed for a WR, good hands, and is able to make the tough catch over the middle. We now have the #2 and #3 player in the nation committed and we are working hard on the
#4 player, a CB.

No big changes in the top 10 in the polls.

Now, we have our last big hurdle to the National Championship Game. An away game at Cal. They are 8-1 and 14th in the polls. Their QB is streaky and he has thrown 25 TD's vs 18 INT's this year. If we can rattle him, this could be a blowout. They have a strong running game and a good defense to compliment him and this will be a tough battle if we don't rattle him and he gets hot.

Cal comes out rotating their backs, one is very elusive, and one is a powerful back. Together, they ran it very effectively and hardly passed at all on a 15 play 71 yard drive that ends in a 6 yard TD run. 7-0.

A good drive ends when Corp throws a pick in the endzone on 3rd and goal from the 8. He was trying to get it to Franklin, but the linebacker made a perfect play.

They come out attempting to pass, and we force a 3 and out. Ronald Johnson with a good punt return in which he almost broke it for a TD. Instead, he gets it to their 36. Corp throws his 2nd pick in the redzone when he tried to force a pass to Ronald Johnson and the safety undercut it.

End of 1: Down 7-0.

Midway through the 2nd, while it is still 7-0, Corp is hit just after throwing it, and he is down. His leg is clearly severely broken. His season is done. Time for Cole to save the day..

First play is a 3rd and 12, Cole jukes two tacklers and makes a 20 yard run. Next play is a 7 yard scramble by Cole. Next play is a 8 yard pass to Franklin. Then, he throws a simple out to Cornelius... Cornelius shakes a defender and turns it into a 32 yard TD! 7-7.

Our next drive, Cornelius Johnson suffers a hamstring injury and he is going to miss a week or two. Cole played brilliantly until we got into the redzone where he threw a bad pick. He had been scrambling so well, too including one amazing 12 yard run where he spun away from two tackles. 36 seconds left in the half.

Halftime: 7-7 tie.

We get the ball to start the 2nd half. 1st play, Cole throws a good pass that bounces off Fisher's hands into the defender's hands for a pick. Their running game was doing well, but on a 3rd and 10 on our 30, Everson Griffen DRILLS their QB forcing a fumble that Holland picks up and returns all the way for a TD!! 14-7. Our next drive, the running game is very effective led by Edwards and Cole and the drive ends with a 8 yard TD pass from Cole to Fisher! 21-7.

We stop a fake punt on 4th and 5 at midfield as we tackle the upback a yard short of a 1st.

End of 3: Up 21-7.

Our next drive, we get a good punt return and have the ball on their 35. We cover the 35 yards in 4 plays including a 10 yard TD pass to Fisher! 28-7. They go for it on 4th and 3 on their 32 and fail to convert. We cover the 32 yards in 5 plays ending with a 13 yard TD pass to McDonald! 35-7. On 4th and 15, their QB just heaves it up and Burrell picks it off. Next play, Cole throws a pick to their safety. 35-10 after a 40 yard FG.

Our 1st play of the next drive, Cole makes a bad pitch on the option and their DE recovers it and returns it for a TD. 35-17. Cal recovers the onside kick! Marshall Jones with an interception that should allow us to put it away.

Game over. 35-17 win. However, Corp's injury will hurt as I think Cole might have troubles in a big atmosphere like the National Championship Game.

Corp: 8 of 13 for 96 yards with 2 INT's.

Cole: 12 of 20 for 133 yards with 4 TD's 3 INT's.

Edwards: 25 carries for 104 yards.

Cole: 10 carries for 59 yards.

Hawthorne: 2 carries for 25 yards.

Corp: 1 carry for 6 yards.

Edwards: 5 catches for 22 yards.

Cornelius: 4 catches for 98 yards and a TD.

Ronald Johnson: 3 catches for 42 yards.

Fisher: 3 catches for 19 yards and 2 TD's.

McDonald: 2 catches for 16 yards and a TD.

Griffen: 10 tackles, 2 sacks, 1 FF.

Darren Coleman: 6 tackles, 4 for a loss, 3 sacks.

Brock Mansion: 11 of 30 for 135 yards with 2 INT's.

Shane Vereen: 28 carries for 141 yards.

Shaun Lawson: 8 carries for 40 yards and a TD.

We lose out on another recruit that I was actively pursuing. 4 star DT Anthony Daugherty from Vandalia, OH chose Penn State over USC and Michigan. He is a 6'2 260 pound fast DT with some good pass rushing moves.

The good news is that the #1 running back in the nation, the 11th overall best player HB Kelvin Johnson from Murfreesboro, TN has given a soft verbal to USC! He isn't quite as spectacular as the back I lost out on last year, but he is a very quick, agile, and has good acceleration. He is 6'2 197 pounds. He doesn't catch it quite as well as I'd like, but otherwise is a great back. We'll keep him #1 on our list until we get a firm verbal committment.

Boise State is now 11-0.

FSU is 11-0 and facing a 9-2 Florida team this upcoming week.

An 11-0 Ohio State team faces a 10-1 Michigan team this upcoming week.

No changes in the polls this past week.

Boise's QB is getting a lot of Heisman Hype. Last week, he threw for 551 yards and 8 TD's in a 73-40 win over Idaho.

I had been waiting for the patch to pick this up again, but I'm jonesing for college football with the regular season over, so I'm picking this up now. Not to mention, while Madden's gameplay is better than NCAA's, since it has the patch, I just can't get into Madden's dynasty.

We are 10-0 and now we face 4-5 Arizona State at their stadium. Arizona has a mediocre offense and we should be able to beat them without too much trouble, but we are without our starting QB. Cole will have to come up big for us the rest of the way. Huston will be ready to step in if he falters.

We are up 14-10 at the end of the 1st quarter thanks to a TD pass by Cole and a TD run by the athletic Cole. So far, the kid is playing a great game. Our only turnover is a fumble by our starting HB, Edwards. Arizona State hasn't turned it over at all and are playing a smart game so far.

Early in the 2nd quarter, Watson gets our first interception of the game. We take advantage with a 5 play 52 yard drive including a great 22 yard TD pass to Ronald Johnson who had 1-1 coverage with the CB. That is Johnson's 2nd TD catch of the day. 21-10.

The next drive Watson gets his 2nd INT of the game and sets a USC career Interception record with 21.

Under pressure on 3rd down, Cole throws a bad pass and they pick it off. We might have had a FG if he hadn't turned it over. Instead, they put together a nice 6 play 60 yard drive that only is stopped by time running out. They kick a short FG to end the half and make it 21-13.

Cole's halftime stats: 10 of 13 for 151 yards with 2 TD's 1 INT. He is also our leading rusher with 3 carries for 30 yards and a TD. Edwards has 10 carries for 26 yards and a fumble.

Arizona State's Samson Szakacsy his 14 of 24 for 153 yards with 2 INT's at the half. Their leading rusher is Raymond Walters with 33 yards on 7 carries.

We get the ball to start the half.

A good balance of running and passing on our first drive of the 2nd half ends with a 1 yard TD run by Edwards. 28-13.

They catch us on a blitz on 3rd down and hit their WR, Coe, for a 66 yard TD! 28-20.

Cole throws his 2nd pick, again on 3rd down, and we are in a bit of trouble. They are at midfield. We stuff the run on 4th and inches on our 10. They force a 3 and out, but their punt returner fumbles it and we recover at midfield.

We are up 28-20 at the end of 3 and we are driving inside their 20.

2 plays later Cole squeezes into Garrett, the freshman for a 16 yard TD! On review it is spotted a foot outside the endzone. Edwards runs it in. 35-20. After we get a stop, we put together a time consuming drive that ends with a bruising 6 yard TD run by Edwards. 42-20.

They put together a strong drive, but a pass bounces off their WR's hands and into our cornerback's hands for a pick. With 1:38 to go, we should be able to run out the clock.

Edwards has run much better in the 2nd half as their defense has appeared worn out. We win 42-20.

Cole wins player of the game. His stats are: 16 of 24 for 232 yards with 2 TD's 2 INT's. 10 carries for 92 yards and 1 TD.

Edwards finishes with 26 carries for 84 yards and 3 TD's.

Franklin was our leading receiver with 5 catches for 64 yards. Ronald Johnson had 4 catches for 93 yards and 2 TD's.

Bryan Burrell, our stud sophomore MLB, had 10 tackles, 3 for a loss, and 1 sack. Jimmy Lynch had the last interception and Tony Watson had the first 2.

Samson Szakacsy finished with 24 of 40 passing for 338 yards with 1 TD 3 INT's. He also ran it 6 times for 36 yards.

Raymond Walters finished with 8 carries for 35 yards.

Tyler Coe, a senior WR, had 9 catches for 151 yards and a TD. He set the record for Arizona's single season receptions this game.

After the game, Kelvin Johnson, the #1 HB in the nation gives us a firm committment. The 5 star player should be a star for us.

We did lose out on 3 top recruits including a 5 star WR from El Centro, CA named Timothy Smith who went to Michigan. He was also considering Cal and USC. We also lost a 5 star OLB from Connecticut who chose Michigan over Nebraska and USC. Scott Smith is undersized but has incredible speed for a linebacker.

We have 7 big recruits coming to the UCLA game which will end our season. If we win that, we'll go to the National Championship.

The top 8 in the BCS right now:

1. USC 11-0
2. LSU 12-0
3. Texas 11-1
4. Florida State 11-1
5. Boise state 12-0
6. Michigan 11-1
7. Georgia 11-1
8. Florida 10-2

We'll finish out the regular season later today.

UCLA is 9-2 and 24th in the polls. They are a talented team and could be difficult if we make too many mistakes. Cole will need to be careful with the football. Chris Forcier, their QB, has had a great year with over 2700 yards passing and 32 TD's. However, he is out injured this game and a mediocre backup n Michael Webster will start

Our first drive is 10 plays and 59 yards but it stalls inside the 10. We kick the short FG to make it 3-0. We stop them short of midield and start on our 29 after a decent punt return by Ronald Johnson.

Our 2nd drive ends when Cole throws a pick to their corner after trying to force it into double coverage. They start on their 41. Defensive pass interference negates a Webster pick and they keep the ball on our 41. A few plays later Lynch does get a 3rd down interception which he returns 38 yards to their 33.

This drive ends when they stuff Edwards on 3rd and 1. We kick a 33 yard FG to make it 6-0 early in the 2nd quarter.

We force a 3 and out. Ronald Johnson with an excellent punt return of 21 yards to start at our 41. Cole gets fooled by a zone blitz and throws a pick to their safety who dropped back to intercept the pass intended for Timbers, our 2nd TE.

On 3rd and 1, they run a QB sneak, but he fumbles it and Marshall Jones recovers for us. Our first play is a long pass to McDonald who is tackled by a shoe string and fumbles it! They recover.

On 3rd and inches, Burrell stuffs their running back to force a 3 and out, except they do a fake punt run for a 2 yard gain that gets them the 1st!

On 3rd and goal from the 6, they run it in for a TD. 7-6, they lead with 3:10 to go in the half. Hawthorne with some great blocking and a few nice cuts to get a 64 yard kickoff return to their 35.

A 5 play 35 yard drive ends with a 2 yard TD run by Edwards. 13-7. 1:52 to go in the half. Marshall Jones with an early pick in their drive gets us the ball back at midfield..

We end up having to punt. With 8 seconds left, they try a hail mary pass which Lynch picks off. We are up 13-7 at the half.

Cole's halftime stats: 7 of 11 for 127 yards with 0 TD's 2 INT's. 8 carries for 33 yards.

We kick off to start the 2nd half.

We force an early stop and Ronald Johnson has a 22 yard punt return to start us on their 43. Cole with another pick. The kid is killing us with bad reads. I'll tell him to start running more if the guy isn't wide open.

Everson Griffen with a sack on 1st down ad he sets a USC sack record! UCLA ends up making us pay for Cole's mistake as they go the length of the short field ending with a 18 yard TD pass. 14-13. Midway through the 3rd.

The 2nd play of our drive, Cole rolls out to his right hits Ronald Johnson in stride, Johnson gets a block and goes the distance for a TD!! Cole gets stopped inches short of the 2nd point conversion. 19-14. That was a 65 yard TD pass.

Lynch with yet another pick and he returns it to their 27 on their first pass of the drive. We fail to move the ball, but our kicker drills a 45 yard FG! 22-14 late in the 3rd.

We force a 3 and out as we get tremendous pressure on their QB. Ronald Johnson returns it 54 yards for a TD, but a holding call brings it back to their 34.

We are up 22-14 and on their 10 as the 3rd expires.

A holding call negates a 10 yard TD run by Edwards. They stop Cole on the 3 yard line after a 9 yard run on 3rd down. We kick the short FG. 25-14.

Lynch with another pick! That was Webster's 5th pick and I think it is Lynch 's 4th? It is. What a game for the star sophomore CB. Edwards fumbles his first carry and they recover. We had a chance to put them away for sure and Edwards blew it.

We get a stop, put together a short drive, and end it with a 49 yard FG by Wright. 28-14. 2:26 to go.

On 3rd down, Webster chucks it up and Marshall Jones picks it off. That was Webster's 6th INT of the game. Ugh, Cole throws a 4th pick as I was trying to make it a 3 TD lead rather than just running out the clock.

We force a turnover on downs and run out the clock. 28-14 win in a turnover plagued game.

Cole's final numbers: 11 of 20 for 211 yards with 1 TD 4 INT's. 14 carries for 78 yards.

Edwards had 22 carries for 41 yards and a TD.

Ronald Johnson had 3 catches for 88 yards and a TD.

Bryan Burrell had 18 tackles, 5 for a loss, and a sack.

Jimmy Lynch was the player of the game with 8 tackles, 4 interceptions, and 2 passes defended.

Michael Wester completed 22 of 39 for 178 yards with 1 TD and 6 INT's.

Jayson Thompson had 21 carries for 87 yards.

Danny Abrams, their junior TE, had 7 catches for 63 yards to lead the team.

Perhaps the strong defensive performance over our rivals played a part in 2 key defensive players giving us a firm committment today!

Allen Williams is a 5 star CB from Granite City, IL. He chose us over Illinois and Nebraska. He is 6'1 183. He is one of the fastest players in the nation wit excellent zone coverage ability and good man coverage ability. He is a very agile athlete with great acceleration and outstanding awareness. He has decent hands. He should be a star for us. He is the 4th ranked player overall in the nation.

Steven Turner is a 5 star SS from Dolton, Ill. He chose us over LSU and Michigan. He is 5'10 175 and is the 6th ranked player overall. He has good speed, is a solid tackler, has excellent awareness, and is a good zone coverage player. He should be an excellent player with some time to develop.

We lost out on Chaz Wilson, a 5 star CB from Tennessee who chose to go to Tennessee. We were his 2nd choice.

We also lost out on Jason Barclay, a 5 star DE who looks like he'll be a great pass rusher. He is from Ocoee, FL. He chose Florida over FSU and USC.

Finally, we lost out on a massive guard that I really wanted. Thomas Bean is 6'6 360 and is a 5 star player from DeSoto, TX. He chose Nebraska over Texas and USC.

In the Conference Championship week, 12-0 LSU plays 11-1 Georgia. The winner of that game is our most likely opponent in the National Championship Game. Other conference championship games feature:

11-1 VT vs 11-1 FSU.

9-3 Houston vs 8-4 Southern Miss.

10-2 Nebraska vs 11-1 Texas (who could sneak into the NC game if Georgia beats LSU.

8-4 Central Michigan vs 10-2 Ohio.

Georgia beat LSU 35-16 and knocked them out of the National Championship Game. However, Texas beat Nebraska 35-7 and they will be our competition in the National Championship Game. I'm not sure why I thought Georgia was higher, but looking back Texas was in 3rd place in the BCS the last few weeks and was the natural choice to slide up to #2.

FSU beat VT 38-17. Southern Miss beat Houston 28-21. Central Michigan beat Ohio 21-7.

After the regular season:

Kellen Moore of Boise State won the Heisman. He completed 240 of 382 passes for 3571 yards and 53 TD's. He had 2031 points and 521 of the 1st place votes. He only had 9 INT's and was by far the most efficient passer in the nation. He led Boise State to a 12-0 record and they will face Michigan in the Rose Bowl.

Patrick Witt of Nebraska came in 2nd with 1412 points and 162 1st place votes. Nebraska finished with a 10-3 record. Witt finished with 262 of 450 passes completed for 3797 yards with 38 TD's and 8 INT's. He also ran it 115 times for 425 yards and 5 TD's. Logan Gray of Georgia came in 3rd with 611 points and 53 first place votes. He completed 211 of 351 passes for 2769 yards with 35 TD's vs 11 INT's. He also ran it 80 times for 470 yards and 4 TD's.

Marc Edwards of USC came in 5th with just 158 points and 11 first place votes. Edwards was well below the leaders in rushing as he only had 1189 yards on 292 carries (4.0 avg.) However, his 22 TD's lead the nation this year. His longest run of the year was a 55 yard run.

We finished 5th in 3rd down conversions at 52%. We scored 76% of the time in the redzone with 81 trips, 47 TD's and 15 FG's. Defensively we allowed the opposition to score 61% of the time they are in the redzone with 17 TD's and 9 FG's in 42 trips. That 61% is 4th best in the NCAA.

Our plus 9 turnover margin was 14th in the NCAA. Michigan is 1st with a plus 30 margin.

The BCS Bowls:

Michigan beat Boise State 31-7 in the Rose Bowl. They outgained Boise 611 yards to 295. Michigan's QB M. Calhoun completed 23 of 39 passes for 393 yards with 3 TD's 0 INT's.

In the Orange Bowl, FSU beat Louisville 31-24. FSU's J. Lawson completed 20 of 33 passes for 232 yards with 3 TD's 2 INT's.

In the Fiesta Bowl, LSU beat Texas A&M 43-24. Jarrett Lee completed 25 of 45 passes for 369 yards with 2 TD's 2 INT's.

In the Sugar Bowl, Georgia beat Ohio State 38-7. They outgained them 511 to 258. Gray got hurt but Michael Dargan, a sophomore, came off the bench to complete 19 of 26 for 218 yards with 3 TD's. Dargan has a great arm and should be the starter next year as Gray will be graduating.

I'll play the national championship against Texas tomorrow, but here is a preview:

Texas has had injuries which have forced a QB controversy between Tom Bonds, a junior with a good but not great arm vs G.J. Kinne, a senior who is more mobile and has a bit better arm but not as much of the intangibles. Kinne has completed 92 of 168 passes for 1081 yards with 11 TD's vs 6 INT's. Bonds has had the better year and will be the likely starter. He has completed 140 of 253 yards for 1999 yard with 23 TD's vs 6 INT's. Neither of the QB's are great and both can be rattled.

Their is no doubt who will start at RB. Ryan King is one of the best backs in the nation with a great combo of speed, acceleration, elusiveness, and decent power. His 1514 yards is one of the highest totals and we'll have to work hard to contain him.

Their receivers should struggle against us as they don't have any burners. However, Roshawn Higgins has some of the best hands in the nation and he does have enough speed to give some problems if we get a slower CB on him. He led the team with 56 catches for 678 yards.

Keenan Robinson is injured and will miss this game and he is their best linebacker and the heart of a nasty defense when he is there. His absence will put pressure on MLB Justin Cox to have a big game. Cox is capable but at least one dangerous player won't be on the field. Aaron Jackson is another excellent OLB and if all 3 were healthy, this would be the best group in the country. As it is, it is a still strength of the team. Ben Wells leads a dangerous secondary and he is 1st on the team with 6 INT's. He has tremendous speed and coverage abilities. As a result, going deep will be a challenge in this game. A.J. Perkins is a shut down corner who we'll have to be careful of as well. This defense is simply one of the best in the nation and they will be a challenge.

The statistics back up their talent as they are 2nd in overall defense, 11th against the run, and 1st against the pass. Cole will have to avoid mistakes and pressure them with his speed. It should be a great game and I'll play it tomorrow. If we win, this will be our 3rd national championship. My goal after this year will be to win the Heisman twice (which I haven't done at all.) Of course, I'll try to win the NC in both years as well. Once I do that, I'll probably retire this career and take on a challenge of trying to build up a 1 star team or working my way up the ladder from starting with a 1 star team.

Texas chooses to defer after winning the coin flip.

Ronald Johnson returns it to the 32 to start the game. The first play from scrimmage Edwards breaks through an arm tackle and has a 42 yard run before a cornerback catches him from behind.

On 3rd and 4, Cole rolls away from pressure and finds Cornelius Johnson for a 1st on his first throw of the game. On the drive, we only throw it twice and we run it 5 times including a 3 yard TD run by Edwards. 7-0.

Texas starts on their 26 for their first drive. The first play Everson Griffen sacks their QB for a 4 yard loss! King runs it for 5 on 2nd and 14. On 3rd and 9, Holland sacks Kinne! 3 and out!

We start on our 35 after a short return by Ronald Johnson. On 2nd and 7, they sack Cole for a 9 yard loss. One of their great DT's got him. On 3rd and 16, Cole throws it despite a blitz getting in his face and finds Ronald Johnson for 17 yards on a simple post route! On 3rd and 9, Cole scrambles for 8 and a half. We decide to go for it on 4th and 1 on their 26.. Edwards runs for 6. A few plays later (after a 15 yard pass among others) Edwards runs it in from the 3! 14-0. Edwards just set a USC single season rushing TD record with 24.

King with a 6 yard run to start their next drive which started on their 34. On 2nd and 4, they go for a PA pass deep and Lynch picks it off. He returns it to their 37. They stop us on 3 consecutive plays. Reggie Wright barely makes the 50 yard FG attempt as it hits the bar and bounces over. 17-0 at the end of 1.

We stop them short of midfield and they punt it into the endzone. They force a 3 and out with very good pass defense and a dropped 3rd down pass by Moss.

Kinne with a few key 3rd down scrambles, some big throws, and a few runs by King gets them inside our 10... King runs it on 1st down for 2 yards. 2nd and goal from the 8: Kinne scrambles for 7 to get to the 1. We stuff King inches short of a TD. They are going for it... We stuff King short!!! Of course, we are now on our 1/2 yard line.

First play, Edwards fumbles it.. Cole recovers but it is inside the endzone. Safety. 17-2 now. They start on their 38. After running for minimal gain on 1st and 2nd down, they throw it on 3rd and 7 for a 21 yard gain. They run it 3 straight times including a 6 yard gain on 3rd and 4. A 1st down pass gets them to our 12. We stop them the next 3 plays including 2 passes. They kick the short FG to make it 17-5. 1:18 to go in the half.

Starting on our 32, I want to at least get in FG range, but we'll be conservative. A 15 yard pass to Timbers who bowled over 2 defenders to gain 8 of them after the catch. Cole with a 16 yard scramble to get inside their 40. 23 seconds left. Incomplete pass. Incomplete pass. Cole scrambles for 6. Time runs out before we get a timeout called.

Halftime: 17-5.

Cole's halftime stats: 7 of 11 for 70 yards with 0 TD's 0 INT's. 4 carries for 31 yards.

Edwards has 13 carries for 63 yards and 2 TD's.

At the half, Kinne has completed 7 of 11 for 96 yards with 1 INT.

Kinne has run it 3 times for 18 yards. King has carried it 12 times for 24 yards. We are playing good swarming defense.

We kick off to start the half.

2 runs for 2 yards each to start the drive. On 3rd and 6, we sack Kinne! Johnson with a short punt return starts us at our 33. They force a 3 and out and we punt it right back. A good punt return starts them at their 36.

On 1st down, we swarm around King and strip the ball! Pauly recovers for us.

We come out with a HB pass that works for 31 yards, but holding negates the big gain. Darn, Edwards actually threw a decent ball on that play. Cole scrambles for 16 to get us back into 2nd and 4. Cole with another evasive move in the backfield and then he scrambles to their 6. Cole almost throws a pick on 3rd down, but they drop it. Reggie hits the short FG to make it 20-5 late in the 3rd.

King is running much better on this drive and they are moving the ball well as a result. A 1st down PA pass gets them to our 35 after a 8 yard run by King on the play before. Another PA pass gains them 34 yards to get to our 1. We stop a PA pass on 1st down. We stuff the QB sneak on 2nd down. We stuff the HB dive on 3rd down. They go for it on 4th... A PA pass to Isaiah Rogers, their Sophomore WR is low and away but he dives and catches it for a TD. 20-11. They go for 2. They throw it to King on a screen but we stop him inches short as the 3rd quarter ends.

20-11 at the end of 3.

Hawthorne starts us at our 25. Edwards with a 8 yard run to start the drive. A 2nd down PA pass fails, but on 3rd, Moss runs it for 4 and the 1st. They go for a pick on an out pattern and misplay it, Corenlius Johnson gains an extra 15 yards after the catch as a result. The next play, Cole drops back, see Ronald Johnson wide open and hits him stride for a 38 yard TD!! I have no idea why he was so open, but that was the most open I've ever seen a receiver. 27-11. Watching the replay, the cornerback missed his jam and fell down. The safety was shading towards the other side of the field.

King finally busts a 21 yard run on 3rd and 2. That was his first big play and he almost took it the house. Marshall Jones was the last defender to beat, but he made the tackle.

On 3rd and 4, their QB throws a lob that leaves King exposed in the flat... Marshall Jones drills him and breaks King's leg. He held onto it for the 1st though. The backup HB, Brandon Randle, is elusive too and he has 4 carries for 20 yards to get them inside the 5. Then, Nate Johnson runs it in from the 1 for a TD. 27-17. Of course, they go for 2.... We stuff Randle in the backfield. 27-17 with 4:18 to go.

We prepare for an onside kick, but they kick it away. We call a PA pass but Cole throws it flat and they pick it off! I guess I should have just gone conservative with the run.. They are on our 23 after the return.

Randle is much more elusive than King it seems. He is dodging guys well and gets a 5 yard run. Randle with a 8 yard run. I'm glad we didn't knock King out sooner... Randle with a 10 yard TD run in which he evaded two tackles and ran over another. 27-23 as they hit the upright on the XP!!!

Hawthorne with a good return to get to our 33. They stuff the run on 1st down for a 3 yard loss. Cole fumbles after scrambling for 6 but Cornelius Johnson dives on it! 3rd and 8... Cole is tackled a yard short.. We punt with 2 minutes to go.

We don't allow much yardage and they start on the 17. Incomplete pass on 1st down as Kinne overthrows his man. We stuff Randle for a loss of 2 on 2nd down. A 6 yard pass on 3rd down. It's now 4th and 6. Sheesh, our DB tips a deep pass and their great hands man catches it off the top for a 40 plus yard gain! They are now on our 34.

Incomplete pass on 1st down. 58 seconds left...

Bryan Burrell had it him in the hands on 2nd down, but he didn't catch it. 11 yard pass completion on 3rd down. Randle with a 4 yard run but only 40 seconds left.. They call timeout. 3 yard run and another timeout. Kinne scrambles for 2. On 4th and 1 with time running, they no huddle.. a pass competion down to the 5. 17 seconds left...

Marhshall Jones with a game saving tackle of their TE. Lynch bats down the pass but could have picked it off. 7 seconds left...

The freshman Pauly picks off the pass in the endzone!!! Pauly saves the day!! He takes a knee in the endzone. 1 second left. We run out the clock.

27-23 win. If they hadn't missed that XP, that INT by Cole would have been a disaster as they surely would have tied it up with a FG.

Cole finished with 10 of 18 passing for 130 yards with 1 TD 1 INT.

He ran it 10 times for 75 yards.

Edwards finished with 20 carries for 65 yards and 2 TD's.

Ronald Johnson had 3 catches for 55 yards and a TD.

Burrell had 13 tackles, 4 for a loss.

Pauly and Lynch each had a pick. Everson Griffen had 2 sacks.

Reggie Wright was 2 of 2 on the FG's that made the difference.

Kinne finished 18 of 29 for 231 yards with 1 TD 2 INT's.

Ryan King had 23 carries for 63 yards.

Brandon Randle finished with 9 carries for 51 yards and a TD.

Kinne had 6 carries for 21 yards.

Isaiah Rogers was their leading receiver. The sophomore had 6 catches for 95 yards and a TD.

MLB Charles Swan finished with 10 tackles, 3 for a loss.

This was my #1 all time greatest game. Whew. Cole made it closer than I expected at the end, but we pulled it out. Next year, I'm hoping Cole will be the clear best QB as I think his dual threat ability gives me the best chance of getting one of my QB's the Heisman. Of course, I'll give the job to whoever looks the best in camp.

We actually won Back to Back Championships now and I get a notice of recognition for that.

I get offered several jobs including ND and WVU. I turn them all down.

The following players are leaving the school:

Going Early: DE Blake Holland, HB Michael Edwards, and FS Tony Watson.

Graduating: WR Ronald Johnson, SS Marshall Jones (now rated 99 overall), LT Charles Williams, DE Everson Griffen (also rated 99), LG Martin Coleman, FB Jason Clark, LG Anthony Schroeder, LT Andre Andrews, DE Bryson Richardson, DT Anthony Crenshaw, QB Aaron Corp, OLB Jordan Maiava (also rated 99), and TE Rhett Ellison.

In our 1st week of recruiting, we get a nice haul as we steal several people from other schools:

OLB Charles Hansbro is the best player in Hawaii. He is from Napili-Honokowai, HI. He chose us over Ohio State and Oregon. Ohio State was his top choice coming into this phase of recruiting. The 5 star OLB is ranked 22nd in the nation overall. He is a 6'0 220 pounds. He has the speed to track down most linebackers, he is a solid tackler with good coverage abilities. He has excellent awareness and acceleration. He takes excellent angles to the ball carrier.

Isaac Kelly is a great 4 star athlete from Columbus, NE. He has top flight speed and is a natural halfback but could easily convert to corner or WR our coaches think. He is 6'0 195 pounds. His speed and accleration are his best assets. He is elusive and smart as well. He was ranked 124th overall nationally. Coming into this week, he was leaning towards Michigan but we convinced him otherwise. He was also considering Ohio State.

Luke Wright is a 4 star athlete from Ocean Springs, MS. He is ranked 139th overall. He was considering USM but we convinced him otherwise. He also considered UL. He is 6'2 181 pounds with very good speed. He is a natural at DB and is excellent in zone coverage. He'll play somewhere in the defensive backfiled for us.

DT Corey Baker is a 4 star DT from Winchester, Nevada and he fills a huge need. He is 6'2 290 pounds. He was ranked 90th overall. He is very powerful at the point of attack and is a solid run stuffing DT.

We did lose out on a HB that we were lightly pursuing. He is from Medford Oregon and is ranked 21st overall but is a JUCO. He chose Texas over Tennessee and Oregon.

I promised Hansbro and Baker that I would not redshirt them this 1st year.

With an already excellent recruiting class secured, I decide to go for so more interesting projects while working on the last 3 of the current batch of recruits that I had picked at the beginning of the season. One of the interesting prospects I decide to pursue is a QB who is much lower ranked than many of the QB's who want to come to USC, but he intrigues me because he is 6'5 255 pounds and he is mobile. With pictures of my own Tim Tebow dancing in my head, I decide to put forth a heavy amount of time pursuing the 3 star QB who isn't as highly touted as many of the options who want to come here.

After week 2, we get one more recruit to sign as backup option Darius Scott signs. He is 6'4 300 pounds and he is a 3 star DT from Medford, NY. He chose us over UF and Iowa. He is ranked 340th overall. He doesn't excel at anything but he'll give us another big body.

Unfortunately, we lose out on the mammoth QB Shannon Williams from Redondo Beach, CA. I went after him hard but too late. He chose UNLV over USC and Stanford. I'll keep track of him from time to time if I remember.

We also lose out on a few very good players who I had been pursuing all season. 4 star FS Josh Hines chooses UCLA over USC and ASU, 4 star Athlete Bobby williams from MS choses Texas over LSU and USC, Tackle Trey Bowling from Highland, CA chooses Tenn over Cal and USC.

Darn it, I just looked and we lost out on more than I thought. UCLA signed the other QB who I was pursuing who is ranked 105 overall. Isaiah Smith is from Hayward, CA. He is small but very fast and should be a good dual threat QB. We also lost 6 other players who I went after late and never made their top 5's.

We don't end up signing any more recruits until the last week when we get 3 more very solid recruits:

Juan Brown is a 6'1 177 pound 4 star athlete from Center Line, Michigan. His natural position in HS was HB but I suspect he may convert to DB for us. We'll see. He does have good speed and accleration but average moves as a back. He is ranked 167 overall and was also considering Michigan and Ohio State.

Stanley Ford is a 6'3 223 pound mobile QB from Henderson, Texas. He has good speed, agility, and acceleration - nothing special like Cole but still good. He has a lively arm that has decent accuracy. He is ranked 241st overall. He was also consdering Auburn and Penn State.

Joe McGee is a 6'1 229 pound 4 star DE from Kaneohe Station, HI. He is ranked 164th overall. He is undersized but has excellent speed for a DE and some decent finesse moves.

This is our best class yet, I think. A quick summary:

We signed Stephen Gorman, the #1 QB in the nation ranked 36th among all positions. Gorman has good speed, agility, acceleration, a strong but inaccurate arm, and excellent awareness.

We signed Kelvin Johnson, the #1 HB in the nation ranked 11th overall. He has top flight speed, juke moves, acceleration, and very good agility. I suspect I can make him into a Heisman candidate after he has had a year or two to develop.

We signed Maurice Washington, the #1 WR in the nation. He is 5'11 175 and is ranked 17th overall. He doesn't have blazing speed, but he does have excellent acceleration, very good agility, and runs very good routes.

We signed Donald Rogers, the #1 TE in the nation. He is ranked 3rd overall. He is 6'3 227 pounds. He has WR type spee and very good hands. He has excellent accleration and agility and will be a very tough matchup for linebackers. He is a barely passable blocker, but as a receiver he'll be great.

We struck out at guard and tackle, but we got the #1 Center in the nation. He is ranked 190th overall. Doug Henshaw is 6'5 287. He is an excellent run blocker and a very good pass blocker.

Corey Barker is the #2 DT in the nation and ranked 90th overall.

Charles Hansbro is the 3rd best OLB in the nation and 22nd overall.

Allen Williams is the #1 CB in the nation. He is ranked 4th overall. He is 6'1 181 pounds. He has all of the physical tools, great acceleration, agility, speed, excellent hands, good man coverage and very good zone cverage abilities. He'll be a shut down corner by his 2nd or 3rd year at the latest.

Steven Turner the #1 SS in the nation and ranked 6th overall. Although, he is undersized at 5'10 175 he is a solid tackler with excellent coverage ability and very good speed.

Nigel Franklin, the #1 athlete in the nation and #2 overall. He is 6'5 196 with blistering speed and catching ablity. He runs good routes and could easily switch to DB as well. We have a ton of WR's, but I think this kid will probably remain on the offensive side of the ball.

Overall, we signed the 2nd, 3rd, 4th, 6th, 11th, and 17th best players in the nation. We have 2 more in the top 50. A great class that I expect to get some Heismans.

Although Nigel would become our 2nd best cornerback and we need help there, he'd also be our 2nd best WR. So, I decide to keep him at his natural WR. Joel McCoy, a sophomore WR can convert to CB well and will do so for some depth. Same for WR Jimmy McDonald who just isn't catching on at WR. Nigel comes in at WR as a result and is immediately one of our best rated freshman ever at the position.

After spring ball the players who have shown the most growth are:

QB Brandon Cole - Much better awareness, better accuracy on his passes,

QB Derrick Huston - Senior QB improved his speed and now has good mobility in the pocket (not nearly as good as Cole of course), his accuracy, and his arm strength. He has the best arm on the team and if I was just worried about winning, he'd be the clear starter. I think Cole's dual threat gives him the best chance to win the Heisman though. Also, our OL is somewhat mediocre this year. We need a mobile QB to avoid the pressure.

HB Dusty Hawthorne has improved his ability to break tackles. He is the best combo of speed and agility. John Tyler is a good power back but not enough of a home run threat. Patrick Morris combines speed and power well but isn't that elusive.

Lance Moss took a huge stride forward at FB. He's much better at catching it and breaking tackles. He should have a huge year for us.

None of the WR's took a huge step up. Ditto for TE's.

RS Freshman Jon Allen improved at LT which is good since he'll be starting. His technique is still only average but he is tremendously strong and his technique did improve a lot this year. If he makes these strides the next year or two, he'll become one of the best LT's in college football.

DE Damien Swain and DT Darren Coleman both took a nice step forward.

Bryan Burrell took huge strides forward and is now one of the most complete MLB's in football.

Tyrone Overstreet has now become a great cornerback.

We redshirt both of our freshman QB's, both of our freshman HB (I didn't promise I wouldn't with Kelvin and while he is already rated 82, we have 3 backs rated at 90), WR Maurice Washington (he is already rated 82 but Nigel is an amazing 88 and will be the starter and our two sophomores will be the 3rd and 4th WR's), center Doug Henshaw, DE Joe McGee (he needs to put on weight anyway), freshman CB/Athlete Juan Brown, freshman athlete/FS Luke Wright, freshman SS Steven Turner (he'll be great one day, but he needs to learn a bit.)

A look at our Starting Roster and 2nd team:

QB Brandon Cole (89), Derrick Huston (96) - I do feel bad that Huston never got his chance, but for the purposes of trying to win the Heisman as well as dealing with our OL's relative weakness, Cole is the best choice.

HB: Dusty Hawthorne (90), John Tyler (90 - more of a power back)

FB: Lance Moss (91 with insane speed for his size - 90 speed), Michael Dawson (87)

WR: Cornelius Johnson (92), Nigel Franklin (88 - by far the best freshman I've ever seen and with his 6'5 height he should be a terror on jump balls), Randy Fisher (85), Joe Garrett (83), Mike Duren (80)

TE: Terrance Franklin (91), Donald Rogers (84 - next best true freshman that I've ever seen), Big Bobby Timbers gets pushed back to 3rd on the depth chart but will likely be our #2 again next year after Franklin graduate.

LT: Jon Allen (82), NAte Smith (83 - but more of a RT)

LG: Melvin Curtis (75), Andrew Carrington (78 but backup at RG)

C: Daniel Harris (83), Rudy Russell (82)

RG: Erik Williams (83), Andrew Carrington (81)

RT: Nate Smith (83), Derrick Smith (83)

LE Josh Wade (86), Noah Davis (85)

RE: Damien Swain (92), Courtney Larkin (81)

DT: Darren Coleman (93), Harvey Mikulec (88), Corey Baker (77)

LOLB: Jamaal Miller (91), Ed Keyes (90)

MLB: Bryan Burrell (99), Kyle Thomas (85)

ROLB: Charles Hansbro (82 - but I think his potential will be best served by giving him the start as he is close to the 2nd option), Michael Carter (83)

CB: Tyrone Overstreet (96), Allen Williams (87 - 2nd best freshman I've ever seen), Brian Lambert (87), Joel McCoy (86 and has great hands as a former WR - just barely edging out Lynch who will be the 5th WR.)

FS: Greg Archie (86), George Robinson (82)

SS: Eric Coleman (88), Kevin Lewis (82)

K Reggie Wright (79)

P Chase Hardy (87)

KR Tyrone Overstreet and Cornelius Johnson will return kicks.

PR Blake Brown will be the primary, Overstreet will be the 2nd option.

For our schedule, I decide to go easy in the first two games:

Week 1: Navy
Week 2: Temple
Week 3: Open
Week 4: #20 Cal
Week 5: at Arizona
Week 6: at Washington State
Week 7: Washington
Week 8: Arizona State
Week 9: Open
Week 10: at Oregon State
Week 11: at Stanford
Week 12: Oregon
Week 13: #12 ND
Week 14: at #23 UCLA

Now, time to catch up to football on the DVR. I might play our first game later tonight.

DT Darren Coleman, MLB Bryan Burrell, CB's Jimmy Lynch and Brian Lambert, and K Reggie Wright are all on the pre-season All-American Team. Funny that neither of those CB's will start for us.

None of my players come into the season with any Heisman Hype. I'm hoping a big game against Navy can start changing that.

We force an easy 3 and out to start the game.

Blake Brown with a long punt return to get back to their 18.

1st play is a 18 yard TD pass to Fisher in the back corner of the endzone. 7-0.

On 3rd and 16 they throw it across the middle.. Archie picks it off and returns it 42 yards for a TD. 14-0.

We stop them short of midfield and a long punt goes into the endzone. On the 7 play of our next drive, Nigel Franklin is 1 on 1 with their cornerback and Cole floats a deep high pass which Franklin goes up and gets for the long TD!! 21-0. This true freshman is going to be a deep threat all year I think.

We force another 3 and out. This is going to get ugly quickly, although I won't be able to run it up too much against Navy.

Oh my, Franklin just had another highlight 1 handed catch deep in the back of the endzone on a 38 yard fly route TD! This kid is having an incredible debut. 28-0 as the 1st ends. He has a combination of acceleration/speed like we haven't seen since when Reggie was here.

Our next drive starts on the 12... Franklin is wide open down the middle of the field but Cole overthrows him. Cole has problems with accuracy and we get stopped on the 50.

Our next drive, Cole leads us on a 5 play 70 yard drive ending in a 3 yard TD scramble by Cole. 35-0.

An option pitch goes awry and Swain recovers it. We are on their 34. They stop us and we settle for a 34 yard FG. 38-0 late in the 2nd quarter.

Cole leads a very good 2 minute drive to cover 58 yards in 11 plays ending in a 39 yard FG with 3 seconds left in the half. 41-0.

Halftime: 41-0 lead.

Cole's halftime stats: 18 of 29 for 303 yards with 3 TD's 0 INT's.

He's also run 5 times for 32 yards and a TD.

True Freshman WR Nigel Franklin's halftime stats: 6 catches for 152 yards and 2 TD's!

We get the ball to start the 2nd half.

We'll air it out for one last drive and then go for a more conservative time eating drive as to not run up the clock further.

This drive ends with a 12 yard TD pass to Terrance Franklin. 48-0.

Our next drive is strictly runs and most of them were by the HB but 2 were by Cole including a 17 yard option keeper for a TD. 55-0.

Yet another 3 and out gets us the ball right back. We'll stick to the 1st team and running it, but soon we'll get our 2nd team skill players in there. They force a 3 and out for the first time all game.

End of 3: 55-0.

Brown returns his 2nd punt of the game (he had been fair catching them) and he takes it 68 yards for a TD. 62-0.

We put together a very long drive on our next drive that covers 64 yards in 15 plays. They finally stop us on 18. We kick the FG to make it 65-0.

We win 65-0.

We held them to 38 yards of total offense while racking up 549 yards of total offense.

Cole was the player of the game. He completed 23 of 34 passes for 382 yards with 4 TD's 0 INT's. He also ran it 9 times for 69 yards and 2 TD's.

Hawthorne ended up with 24 carries for 107 yards, mostly in the 2nd half.

John Tyler had 4 carries for 21 yards.

Nigel Franklin had a spectacular debut. He had 7 catches for 185 yards and 2 TD's. He would have had a 3rd long TD if Cole didn't overthrow him.

Dusty Hawthorne had 5 catches for 25 yards. Randy Fisher had 4 catches for 61 yards and a TD. Terrance Franklin had 3 catches for 48 yards and a TD. Moss had 3 catches for 58 yards.

Bryan Burrell led our defense with 11 tackles, 3 for a loss. In his freshman debut, Hansboro had 7 tackles, 2 for a loss, and a sack.

Jeremy Marshall their senior QB was 6 of 14 passing for 49 yards with 1 INT.

We held their main FB to -7 yards on 18 carries. Their HB had 7 carries for -5 yards. Their QB had 6 carries for -2 yards.

Still no Heisman Hype, but Brandon Cole did win the national player of the week award for offense.

Interestingly, I'm trying to recruit a 2 star 6'4 265 pound QB with mobility and he is not even the slightest bit interested in us and he gets angry when I call. Maybe it is because he figures he'd never play at USC? Or maybe he just wants to remain close to home in Louisiana?

Anyway, our next game is hosting Temple and that should be another big blowout and chance for Cole to shine.

Seeing you update this caused me to play my first game of 2008 in months. Had a whale of a game, MD beating VA, 28-21 on a kickoff returned for a TD with no time left. Only one interception in the game and it was completely my fault.

I'm crossing my fingers on the patch.

Keep up the dynasty, it's been an interesting read.

If Franklin is that good as a frosh, and was #2 in the nation, what did the kid who was #1 turn out to be?

Thanks Craig. I'm keeping my fingers crossed too. If the patch tones down INT's even a bit, I think this will be back to being my most played game for a while. As it is, I expect to play more this weekend.

Blade, Nigel is insane. 97 speed, high 90 acceleration, high 90's in jumping, high route running rating, and with his height I think he is going to set records for me. I'll have to see if I can track down the #1 kid and see what his deal is, unfortunately, I don't think the game lets you see their HS rankings once the new season has started.

Here goes the first post patch game. We are playing against Temple and with the better loft, I expect a huge passing game between Cole and Nigel. Temple's defense is rated even worse than Navy's was and their offense is rated the same. This should be a huge blowout.

Our first play of the game, Cole throws a pick that was the result of a very athletic play from their linebacker.

We force a 3 and out and they punt from our 42. Our first play of our 2nd drive, Cole throws to Terrance Franklin, our TE, on a deep out, he breaks a tackle and then takes it the distance for a 80 yard TD! 7-0.

Cole throws a beautiful lob across the middle but Terrance Frankin is drilled, it pops up into the air and their safety picks it off. He returns it 51 yards for a TD shrugging off a tackle attempt by Cole in the process. 7-7 and this game isn't going at all how I expected. Cole needs to stop throwing picks.

Surprisingly, they force a quick punt on our next possession as a 3rd down pass was dropped by Moss. Coleman, our SS, with a pick on a deep 3rd down pass to get us the ball back at their 40. We cover the 40 yards in 7 plays including a 2 yard TD scramble by Cole. 14-7, late in the 1st.

First play of our next drive, Cole makes a bad pitch (that was new to the patch maybe?) and they pick it up and run it in untouched for a TD! 14-14.

We respond with a 5 play 67 yard drive that includes a 23 yard scramble by Cole and a 24 yard pass to Terrnance Franklin. The drive ends with a 1 yard TD run by Hawthorne. 21-14.

We force a 3 and out and start on our own 30 this drive. We cover 70 yards in 8 plays including a 18 yard scramble by Cole and a 9 yard TD pass to Terrance Franklin. Big game for the TE. 28-14.

Archie picks off a lazy pass across the middle after an otherwise successful drive. We start at our 40. We run it well but the clock forces us to kick a FG from the 20 with 3 seconds to go. 31-14 at the half.

Halftime stats: Cole is 10 of 18 for 171 yards with 2 TD's 2 INT's. He also has 13 runs for 102 yards and a TD.

Nigel Franklin has been covered well and they have knocked down 3 passes intended for him. Terrance Franklin, our TE, has 4 catches for 118 yards and 2 TD's at the half.

We force a 3 and out as we stuff the run on 3rd and 1. We start at the 12.

Oh my, Nigel Franklin is wide open on a PA pass and Cole throws a long rainbow that Franklin runs under and runs into the endzone! 38-14 on the 66 yard TD pass.

Our next drive, Cole gets hit hard and has the wind knocked out of him.. Huston comes in for a few plays. Even though he is more than capable, we run it all 3 plays before Cole comes back in. A few plays later, Cole gets hit as he is throwing it and underthrows Nigel as a result. Their corner picks off the deep pass as a result. If he threw it long, Nigel had his man beat.

We are up 38-14 at the end of 3. On 4th and 13 they throw a desperation pass that they fail to complete. Turnover on downs. We cover the short field quickly ending in a 19 yard fade route to Nigel Franklin who catches it 1 handed in the back of the endzone! 45-14.

We get the ball back at our 38 after forcing a quick punt. This will be Cole's last drive. On 3rd down, Cole finds Terrance Franklin in stride for a big gain, but he fumbles it after being drilled by 2 defenders. They recover. Their QB throws a pass on 3rd down as he is being hit and he throws a lame duck very high that Archie picks off.

One last drive for Cole since the last one ended so prematurely. Darn. Cole throws another pick when he tries to throw it to a wide open Terrance Franklin across the middle but the linebacker makes a very good play on the ball and picks it off. Lambert picks it off to get it right back for us.

Cole leads us on a quick 5 play 43 yard drive ending in a 5 yard TD run by Cole on a naked bootleg. 52-14.

Temple with a PA Pass to their bigger WR who breaks a tackle and gains 33 yards before our other corner can catch him. Williams with the 1st pick of his career gets us the ball back with 1:40 to go. We put in Huston and will run out the clock if we can.

We win 52-14.

Cole was the player of the game despite throwing 4 picks. He completed 17 of 29 passes for 322 yards with 4 TD's 4 INT's. He also ran it 22 times for 153 yards and 2 TD's.

Hawthorne ran it 20 times for 100 yards and a TD.

Terrance Franklin led all receivers with 6 catches for 151 yards and 2 TD's.

Nigel Franklin had 2 catches for 84 yards and 2 TD's.

Burrell led the team with 7 tackles, 2 for a loss.

Archie led the team with 2 INT's. Lambert, Coleman, and Williams each had 1.

Temples Patrick Merrick finished with 13 of 30 passing for 100 yards with 0 TD's 5 INT's.

Robert Bryant led them with 10 carries for 30 yards.

I wonder if the big yardage and 6 total TD's will overcome the 4 INT's in the quest to get Cole some Heisman hype.

Despite the 4 picks, Brandon Cole is starting to get some early Heisman Hype. I'd love to play another game tonight, but I know I shouldn't. Looking forward to playing more tomorrow even though the patch doesn't seem to have done much at all to reduce INT's. I do like that it has made lobs much easier and the CPU seems to lob it now too.

During our open week, we got our first recruit. J.T. Meeks accepted immediately upon first contact as we offered him a scholarship. J.T. is a 4 star athlete from South Gate, CA. He is 6'0 180 pounds and is a natural WR but could easily transition to DB. He has excellent speed, tremendous agility, and very good hands. He is a very heady player who runs good routes. He is ranked 220th overall.

Our next game is hosting Cal who are 2-0 and 17th in the polls. We've dropped to #2 after our open week. Cal has an explosive offensive and a good defense and should be a good matchup. Their offense is 19th in passing yardage, 85 in rushing yardage and is 72nd overall. Their total defense is 9th, their run defense is 7th, and their pass defense is 11th. Of course those numbers are influenced by their having had an open week already.

Cal starts the game receiving the ball.

Tyrone Overstreet picks off the first pass of the game and returns it 42 yards for a TD. 7-0. Their next drive is a 12 play 66 yard drive that we stop on the 9. They kick the short FG to make it 7-3. Their QB was nearly perfect on that drive.

After two good runs by Hawthorne, Cole tries to force one deep to Nigel and it is overthrown and intercepted by their SS on the 5 yard line. We stop them short of their own 30 and force a punt.

A strong drive ends with a 4 yard TD pass to Nigel Franklin the back left corner of the endzone. 14-3, early in the 2nd quarter.

The first play of our next drive, Moss catches a 18 yard pass, breaks a tackle, avoids another tackle, and takes it 31 more yards before he is caught. However, the promising drive ends when we go for it on 4th and inches inside their 15 but get stuffed.

Cal with a strong 13 play 68 yard drive that we stop at the 13. They kick the 30 yard FG to make it 14-6.

With 1:40 to go, we put together a 3 play 62 yard drive starting with a 18 yard pass to Nigel Franklin on a crossing route, followed by a 17 yard pass to Terrance Franklin on a deep in, and then ended with a 27 yard TD pass to Nigel Franklin on the fly route as he skied above the defender and pulled it down in the endzone. 21-6.

Halftime: 21-6.

Cole's Halftime Stats:

6 of 7 for 124 yards with 2 TD's 1 INT. 5 carries for 35 yards.

We get the ball now.

Overstreet returns the kickoff almost to midfield.

Our opening drive consists of 54 yards in 8 plays ending in a 6 yard TD scramble by Cole. 28-6. They miss a 49 yard FG on their next drive to give us the ball back.

Cole with another perfect drive including 2 great passes to Nigel, a few underneath passes to the backs, and a TD pass to Terrance Franklin. 35-6.

We force a 3 and out, but a great punt starts us at our 14.

End of 3: Up 35-6.

A good drive for us ends when a pass to Hawthorne bounces off his hands into the hands of the safety for a pick.

We exchange turnovers as Hawthorne fumbles it, but their QB throws a pick on the next play. That was his 2nd of the day. Late in the 4th, we settle for a FG to make it 38-6 with 1:48 to go.

We win 38-6.

Cole finishes 24 of 28 for 326 yards with 3 TD's 2 INT's. He also rushed 13 times for 68 yards and a TD.

Hawthorne had 15 carries for 90 yards with a fumble.

Nigel Franklin was the leading receiver with 7 catches for 98 yards and 2 TD's.

Terrance Franklin had 5 catches for 59 yards and a TD.

Hawthorne had 5 catches for 53 yards and Cornelius Johnson had 3 catches for 32 yards.

Burrell had 9 tackles to lead the team, 2 for a loss, and a sack.

Brian Lambert and Tyrone Overstreet each had a pick.

Cal's Carl Moore was 19 of 31 for 205 yards with 2 INT's.

Joe Smith their HB had 17 carries for 52 yards.

Today, we face a 3-0 Arizona Team at their stadium. Their offense is very good but their defense is below average. We will be unveiling our new offense today which features more spread plays.

Their first drive, we force a 3 and out as they throw a short pass on 3rd and 1 to their WR but we tackle him behind the line of scrimmage.

Our first drive covers 65 yards in 7 plays including a 24 yard pass to Nigel Franklin and a 2 yard TD scramble by Cole. 7-0.

Our second drive, Nigel Franklin is hurt trying to leap for a spectacular catch on a deep pass in the endzone. Two plays later, Cole throws a pick to their linebacker while attempting to hit the slot receiver across the middle.

We force our 3rd 3 and out of the game. Nigel is back in the game now.

Early in the 2nd quarter, Cole throws his 2nd pick of the day as they jump a WR screen. A few plays later Williams gets a pick to get us the ball back. I think that might have been his first of his career. We take advantage with a 5 play 52 yard drive ending in a 4 yard TD scramble by Cole. 14-0.

The new offense isn't working so well as Cole throws his 3rd pick on our next drive. He needs to run with it more and not try to throw it in tight spaces.

Arizona takes advantage with a 39 yard TD pass 3 plays later. 14-7.

Cole with a tremendous scramble for 20 yards, but he fumbles on their 1 and they recover.

Halftime: Up 14-7. Cole needs to do much better: 13 of 20 for 177 yards but 0 TD's 3 INT's. 7 carries for 58 yards with 2 TD's and a fumble.

At least, we get the ball this half.

On 4th and 1 on their 33, Cole shakes off a tackle in the backfield and scrambles for 6.

A few plays later, Cole throws his 4th pick of the game - this time on a post route that their safety covered well. Sheesh, our next drive, Cole throws a 5th pick. I guess the passing game hasn't become too easy for me after all.

Another promising drive ends when Cole is sacked and fumbles it inside their 20. They recover. I wonder if this game will end his chances at the Heisman.

Sheesh. This time, Cole just makes a terrible throw on our next drive that is way over the TE's head and right into their safeties hands. 6 INT's, 2 fumbles, and we are in danger of letting them tie it up..

Fortunately, they miss a 45 yard FG attempt and we are still up 14-7 with 3:30 to go. We fail to run out the clock and punt with 1:27 to go. They start on their 20 after a touchback.

Overstreet intercepts their first pass and that should end the game.

Cole with an option keeper run for a 7 yard TD to make it 21-7 with 40 seconds left.

Burrell with a pick of a 3rd down pass. He returns it to their 20. We run out the clock.

21-7 win that was very ugly.

Cole was 22 of 38 for 254 yards with 0 TD's 6 INT's.

He ran it 17 times for 95 yards and 3 TD's. He fumbled it twice.

Hawthorne ran it 16 times for 45 yards as he didn't do as well in the spread formation.

Nigel Franklin had 6 catches for 95 yards.

Allen Williams, the true freshman defended 3 passes and intercepted 1. Overstreet and Burrell also each had a pick.

Lester Dukes was 15 of 31 for 145 yards with 1 TD 3 INT's for Arizona.

Taylor McGuire had 15 carries for 60 yards.

Not surprisingly, Cole's Heisman hype has dropped down quite a bit, but he is still being mentioned just not as highly. He is now considered the 5th est candidate behind a very good QB for Oklahoma State, Nate Wise (the HB I wanted who went to LSU instead), and a very good QB from Florida.

The top 10 in the polls:

1. USC (41) 4-0
2. Texas (20) 3-0
3. LSU 5-0
4. Georgia 4-0
5. Florida 5-0
6. Ohio State 4-0
7. Penn State 4-0
8. Michigan 4-1 (lost last week to Iowa 31-27) to drop from #1 in the poll)
9. Iowa 4-0
10. Nebraska 5-0

Our next game is at Washington State who are 0-3. Their offense and defense are bwlow average and their QB has thrown 3 TD's to 6 INT's on the season. We should roll over them and I expect a much better game from Cole.

A great start to the game: 17 yard run by Hawthorne, 16 yard run by Hawthorne, 2 short passes for 6 yard gains, and then a simple out where Nigel broke a tackle, evaded another, and took it 25 yards for a TD. 7-0.

Our next drive goes even better as the 1st play, Nigel breaks press coverage and beats his man deep. Cole throws it a bit too far, but Nigel lays out and catches it in full extension for a 62 yard gain. If Brightcove was still accepting new videos, I'd add it to this thread. The next play Hawthorne runs it in for a 8 yard TD. 14-0.

Williams with a pick to get us the ball back at midfield. Nigel catches a short hook on the 1st play, breaks a tackle and takes it an additional 17 yards for a 21 yard gain. The next play, Cole has a wide open field on the right, he rolls out and then scrambles. Two good blocks by WR's down the field spring him for a 29 yard TD! 21-0.

Our next drive ends when Cole throws his 1st pick of the game. He tried throwing it on the run and it was wildly inaccurate. They return it to our 13. 2 plays later, they run it in from the 6. 21-7.

An option pitch goes astray and they recover it on our 31. I definitely think that happens more often post-patch.

We are up 21-7 at the end of 1, but they are inside our 20. They end this drive with a 6 yard TD pass. 21-14.

Cole with a 42 yard run on a spread play where he got two good blocks down field from his WR's. That set us up within the 10 and he threw it to Garrett for a TD on the next play. 28-14.

On 3rd and 10, we get the QB under pressure and he throws off his backfoot and we pick it off. Cole with his 2nd pick of the day gives it right back and they run it all the way to the 5. Williams with a pick in the endzone gets us the ball back and returns it to our 32.

Halftime: 28-14, we lead.

Cole's halftime stats: 9 of 14 for 136 yards with 2 TD's 2 INT's. 11 carries for 96 yards and a TD.

Lambert gets us a pick 6 with a 58 yard return to start the 2nd half. 35-14.

At the end of 3, we are up 35-14.

Cole finally has another very nice drive in which he goes 5 of 5 including a TD pass to Garrett. 42-14. First play of their next drive, Overstreet gets a pick to give us the ball back on their 22.

3 plays later, Cole throws a 12 yard TD pass to Hawthorne. 49-14. Our next drive, Cole runs it in from the 2. 56-14 and I'm about to pull Cole who has had a good day despite the 2 INT's in the first half.

Overstreet with another pick ends the game. We'll run out the clock.

56-14 win.

Cole finished 19 of 33 for 236 yards with 4 TD's 2 INT's.

Cole also had 20 carries for 181 yards and 2 TD's.

Hawthorne had 19 carries for 92 yards and a TD.

Nigel Franklin finished with 6 catches for 123 yards and a TD.

Hawthorne had 5 catches for 38 yards and a TD.

Joe Garrett had 2 catches for 9 yards and 2 TD's.

Burrell after only having 5 tackles last game, returned to his usual form with 12 tackles, 2 for a loss. Overstreet had 3 interceptions.

This dynasty has been on life support, but with another new patch out for the 360, we are going to see if it can be resurrected. If the CPU interceptions seem toned down, it will live again at least until I complete my Heisman dreams.

Now onto our next game. We host the 3-2 Washington Huskies. We have 2 big recruits visiting today, a MLB and a S. The Huskies are 0-2 in the Pac-10 and have a paper thin defense. We should score in bunches against them and I expect a big game from Cole. We are going to go back to our more traditional playbook which offers a more balanced offense, but Cole's natural athleticism should still allow him to rack up plenty of rushing yardage.

Nevermind -

2 picks in the 1st few minutes of the 1st quarter. No difference noticed from this patch as far as the main issue in my mind. Back to college hoops which is more realistic and therefore more fun to me.
