World Poker Tour Finals

The finals are on The Travel Channel right now. (at least in central time zone)

Poor Phil Ivey. Again.

And the Russian dude was crazy there at the start of the heads up. Glad it bit him though. That strategy shouldn't work all the time

I don't get the Travel Channel, but watched a touch of this last weekend in a hotel. Mrs. Q and I fell asleep before it ended, but in that round, it was down to "Devil Fish" and Phil Ivey, with Devil Fish having a large chip advantage.

From the presence of Phil in the finals, I'm guessing he won that round. Can anyone confirm? Did he win with a big gamble - going all in with a shaky hand and paying off, or did he just grind Devil Fish away?

Actually "Devil Fish" won the tournament, from what I gathered watching last night. For the championship, all of the prior winners were given buy-ins, and were in the field with the other 100 or so players. None of the previous winners made it through to the finals, but Phil did. I was a little surprised that was how they had it set up, I had been under the assumption that there was going to be an event with ONLY the previous winners, but I guess the "Championship" was just another tournament with a higher payout.

FWIW, I think this is great for poker, ESPECIALLY low-limit players. It'll get newbies involved in the game (definitely a plus), and many of them will think they're immediate experts (another plus).

Additionally, it just increases awareness for the game, which is a good thing, IMO. There's no reason it needs to be 'underground'.

On top of that, it's enjoyable (for me) to watch every week and just see how some of these guys play. Some of the reads they make are incredible.

It's amazing to watch somebody bet $250K (or more) on a stone bluff, and get away with it.

I certainly hope that they come back for a 2nd season, and I believe they will. The camera view of the hole cards is neat, and the poker facts and definitions help. I love the fact that they tell you straight up that "this person has a 2% chance of winning the hand", so you are YELLING at him not to bet, and when he does, you feel crushed, and then elation when he pulls off the bluff

It's made me think about heading to Foxwoods and try some Texas Hold-Em myself.

I think it has already been re-signed for a second season.
