As expected, these rounds will now only get tougher.

Dark Knight Rises made it to round 2? That's such a shitty movie.

It beat Spotlight in the first round, which is a rather unfortunate result.

That said, I don't think it's a shitty movie, just nothing special.

There are going to be some tight contests in this round. 4 matchups within 2 votes at this point.

How are tiebreakers determined?

I settled on the following in the first round;

1. IMDB Rating (not the rank). So if one movie is an 8.4 and the other movie is an 8.3, the movie rated 8.4 wins. Now, if both movies have the same rating, for instance both are rated an 8.4...

2. Number of rating votes.

So for instance, The Shawshank Redemption is rated a 9.3 with 1,776,485 votes.

Having said that, I was thinking instead of using the rating and votes only for the 30-44 male demographic, as found here. Am I wrong to assume most voters are in this demographic? If I were to do this, it would impact at least one first round tie.

Two questions for everyone then...
1. Should I use just the stats (rating and votes) for 30-44 year old male voters?
2. Should I apply it retroactively to the first round (ie. the match was played in protest and overturned on appeal)?

Fuck, I read that as "The Dark Knight", not "The Dark Knight Rises". Princess Mononoke easily gets my vote of Rises, but looks like my mistake won't matter.

I actually made the same mistake.

Now this is what I'm talking about. What a round! A bunch of my picks are going to lose and I'm fine with the loss on them.

American History X and Snatch are two of my all-timers, One Flew/Casino another great battle, Apocalypse Now/Clockwork and finally Memento/Taxi Driver. Wow.

Seriously, and this is only the first of 8 brackets. The third round will be insane.

Yeah, as a group we will have to eventually vote against every single movie save 1.

Dola, tough draw for Judgement at Nuremberg. It's a great movie, and it seems unfair it is getting blown out so badly. Even though Goodfellas is a better movie IMO, and my favorite Scorsese film.

Interesting comeback by Taxi Driver in the lone Scorsese vs. Christopher Nolan match-up, in what is really a Scorsese/Nolan dominated bracket. Hard to believe that out of Memento, Interstellar and Dark Knight Rises, it is the latter that is the only one likely to advance. Though it would setup Taxi Driver vs. Goodfellas in the next round.
