Winnemucca is in a weird spot right now, because you have to understand that in the franchise's 21 years of history, they've missed the playoffs only 4 times. That's 16 playoff appearances in 20 years and 5 titles. And that's despite the fact that they're on their 3rd owner.
It's a long season though, but it's insane looking at the standings and seeing them somewhere other than 1st or 2nd. |

For the newcomers, the playoffs are Top 3 in each league (two division champs, 1 wild card.) The Conditional Playoff Rule (CPR) only comes into effect when a division champ finishes 4th or 5th in the overall league standings of their league, when that happens, we expand the post-season to the top 5 teams in each league.
So far, looking at both league standings it doesn't look like their league has a "weak" division champ. |

Props to Brendan Good, a one-star guy that I inserted at catcher over the incumbent the past few years Melvin Rugama because Rugama hasn't really been hitting and I thought at his age, he might be able to go to the minors and develop a bit more. Good is on pace for 37 HRs and 114 RBI this year, not bad for a dude who has already surpassed his career highs for single season HRs (17) and RBI (52) before mid-season.

How about the ageless one Eusebio Salavisa being productive at the top of the lineup, and 42 years old. He has a .396 OBP, 17 HRs, and has played in every single game this season. He's 5th in runs with 72, and 3rd in BB with 73. He's 39 hits from his 4000th, and he hit his 600th HR which makes him tied for 4th place all time.
I'm confused about one thing, he has 14 HR's in 1843, but there is no team listed. He has been given credit for these 14 HR's in the record book, although his career stats don't give him credit for those 14 as ML Level HRs.

In '43, he was in college. This was before STREP, though, so those aren't 14 ML HRs. It's crazy that he's so good though. |

Ok, that makes sense, but I wonder why he's getting credit for those HR's, and I wonder if there's others whose totals might deserve an asterisk.

By default, the game shows all stats including minors (and in our case, STREP) and majors. You have to filter it to show only ML stats and then it'll show you his actual totals. |

Yeah, on his page, but on the league history he's getting credit for those 14. Without those, he's at 593.

Wow, you're right. Just added that up and it's only 593. I wonder why the game is giving him credit for those 14 HRs. Must be a bug associated with when the league went from OOTP12 to OOTP13. I have no clue why it'd do that, though. But good catch!

So Winnemucca's streak of 11 straight playoff appearances is all but over.
The AL East battle could be a dogfight to the end, with the loser having to duke it out with Las Vegas for the AL Wild card, since St. Louis has already clinched their third straight AL West pennant and #1 seed in the AL. In the NL, there's all sorts of drama. If resurgent Carolina manages to keep winning and the NL West teams beat each other up, we could have five teams in the playoffs in both leagues for a 2nd straight year. If the season ended today, we'd be at 3, but...it's going to come down to the wire and it'll be a matter of how good the NL West wants to be down the stretch. |

The most wins in a season list reads like this:
1859 Winnemucca (121) 1857 Winnemucca (115) 1856 Carolina (113) 1858 Winnemucca (112) 1855 Brooklyn (108) 1855-59 was quite an era, apparently. St. Louis has a chance to enter that cabal depending on how their September goes. |

As it turns out, 1865 St. Louis actually tied that Brooklyn team for 5th all-time, that's just not good enough to crack the AL's top 3 all time (all three spots belonging to Winnemucca)

As of 9/16: Brooklyn (87-73) has clinched the NL Wild Card, meaning that the NL West title is the last thing up for grabs in that league.
In the AL, Las Vegas (91-69) clinched the AL Wild Card, leaving the AL East race as the only one in doubt. AL EAST ----- Cuyahoga 89-71 -- Memphis 87-73 2GB Chicago 87-73 2GB NL WEST ----- Kauai 83-77 Columbus 83-77 Denver 82-78 1 GB Here's the hitch. Carolina (83-77) is currently out of the NL East race and the NL Wild Card race obviously. But they have an incentive to win, because if they finish the regular season with a better record than the NL West champ, then the playoffs in both leagues will expand to five. In the AL, that's easy as there are only 5 teams with winning records. In the NL, there are six teams with winning records and only five spots would be available. |

Today is the last day of the regular season. Carolina's loss last night means that the best they can do is tie the NL West champ in record, meaning they've eliminated themselves from post-season contention and the Conditional Playoff Rule will not going into effect.
So that means three teams in the NL West duking it out for that pennant and the only spot left in the post-season. Cuyahoga's win clinched the AL East title for them and so, they'll take on Las Vegas in the AL Elimination Series (best of seven). |

Today, Denver is at home against Wyoming. Meanwhile, Columbus takes on Kauai at home. A Columbus win would clinch them the NL West title outright. A loss by Columbus and we'd have a tie for the NL West title and need a tiebreaker. If Denver wins and Kauai wins, we'll have a THREE way tie for the NL West title.

Columbus 4, Kauai 3 (11 innings)
Wyoming 5, Denver 3 (11 innings) Columbus wins and clinches the NL West title. Kauai and Denver deprive me of another year of testing out all of the playoff possibility scenarios I've worked out in the off-chance we ever need them! |
