2011 US Open (Tennis)

Quad Cities native Madison Keys who is all of sixteen years old is going HAM right now at the Open against 27th seeded Lucie Safarova of the Czech Republic in the 2nd round of the tournament.

She's up 5-1 in the 1st set. We'll see if she can keep it together, but she's the next big American phenom on the women's side no matter what happens here in this particular match.

Keys won her first round match against 37-year old Jill Craybas and she's the lowest ranked woman in the field at 455th in the world.

Keys wins the first set 6-3. She was pressing a bit to get that thing done, but she managed to slow it down and hold serve to finish it out. She's in control of this match though.

did you know the son of famed pole vaulter Sergey Bubka is actually a tennis player? He made it past the first round after going through qualifying where he recorded an unofficial serve (because it was a fault) of 156 mph? That would have been a record serve for the whole sport had it not been a fault.

He gets seeded Jo-Wilifred Tsonga in the next round so the dream likely ends there, but I'm certainly curious to see how he plays.

Didn't know that, but that's pretty cool.

Ga Tech alum Irina Falconi just knocked out the #14 seed (Cibulkova). Down 3-0 in the third set, she chipped her way back to a 2-6, 6-3, 7-5 win.
