Text Based Horseracing Management Game?
In the spirit of the boxing sim query, does anyone have any recommendations for a horse racing management game? Rival Stars seems to be an option for mobile, but that was only after an hour of googling. Curious to hear any first hand reports of any in the genre for mobile or PC.
TIA! |

I was driving thru Kentucky earlier today and I was thinking about horse racing games too. I think it would work well as a micro transaction type game. Because let’s be honest, money rules that sport.

Starters Orders is pretty much the best option from what I can recall. Or if you can find an arcade cabinet of Derby Owners Club.

Rival Stars exists on PC without all the typical mobile microtransactions.. I didn't enjoy it much either way.

Sadly I gave up on coding a horse racing game (a bucket list thing). It proved to be way more difficult than I expected. I have played two or three different versions of Starters Orders, the last being SO6. It's a good game but really geared toward UK racing. SO6 had a mod that helped a bit with US racing, and I would guess that SO7 has something similar. It's really the only game in town.

I've been searching for an online multiplayer horse racing game like Derby Owners Club that doesn't cost a fortune to play. Anything people here would recommend that comes close to being like that?
Thanks! |

Years ago, I played SIM Horse racing. It was pretty interesting, and might be what you are looking for.

It's just been forever, seemingly, since there was any answer better than "well, I guess the best we have out there is _______."
I got Rival Stars on iOS and gave it a try, but... haven't gotten hooked. |

I tried Starters Orders 7 recently and TBH I gave up because I could never get a horse to finish in the money let alone win a race. It became unfun really fast.

Starters Orders goes along like that for awhile until it switches to the opposite issue (at least with the USA schedule): big money races with only 2-3 entrants that you can enter any chump horse into. It's been dealing (or rather, not dealing) with the same issues for like 20 years running now.

Rival Stars sucks too. It's very linear. You have level 1 horses until you can race and buy enough feed/barn/training upgrades to have level 2 horses until you can race and buy enough feed/barn/training upgrades to have level 3 horses, etc. etc.

I played SO7 and it was OK. My two favs were The Racing Breed and Hooves of Thunder. It's a shame no one has advanced those lines.
