Crusader Kings II best features - According to 5 devs:
5 of the Crusader Kings II devs were asked about their favorite feature in the game. Here is what they answered: Doomdark - Henrik Fåhraeus – Project Leader & Lead Designer. "I love the opinion system in Crusader Kings II. In the first game, you had a whole slew of overlapping concepts: stability, loyalty, "badboy", friends, rivals, and relations between countries. When you think about it, these are all basically the same thing: the views that characters have of each other, i.e. opinions. The new system unifies all of these concepts very nicely. You can see exactly why characters feel the way they do about each other, and it has a clear effect on the gameplay. It is unilateral, meaning your character can love another character, while that character still hates your guts. Needless to say, I am pushing for a similar system in our future games... " Captain Gars – Niklas Strid – Historical Researcher & Content Scripter "One of the game mechanics I like the most is plots. To be able to secretly plan for the demise of a hated enemy, or presenting your liege with a demand when you know you have the military power behind you to back it up is very enjoyable. Plots also help making AI characters come to life, as it gives them personal goals which they will pursue rather ruthlessly. Plots were introduced in Sengoku and was my favourite feature there as well, but with CKII I think we have managed to take them to another level. It's definitely a game mechanic I hope to see in more of our games from now on." Johan Lerström - Programmer "I love it when I notice that some random character in the periphery does something interesting or has something interesting happen to him or her. I sometimes keep track of what characters do their entire lives, following them around as they marry their hunchback niece and murder their brothers in an effort to reach their goals. Keeping an eye on your neighbors is not only an interesting distraction but also a great way to figure out who is vulnerable and who might become vulnerable with some nudging in the right direction." Kallocain – Linda Kiby – Associate Producer "Walking around in the office and hearing what people discuss during playing sessions. The situations can become so bizarre and weird. "I have too many sons, I can't give them all land! I'll need to marry them off or kill them I guess." Gives a certain flair to the conversations nowadays." Tegus – Fredrik Zetterman – Programmer "My favorite feature about CK2 is the succession wars. There you are, running your kingdom, everything is going great. Then BOOM - your ruler dies, half of your kingdom rises in rebellion when the evil twin brother tries to wrest the crown from your heir. It makes the game really interesting, because you really need to think about which titles you give to whom. You can't really overpower your heir too much either, since he might actually try to take the crown _before_ the current king dies " |

The new CB system certainly felt pretty limiting when playing as a small realm in the demo, but I'll wait for the full game to pass judgment I guess. I'm sure it's more realistic but in three 20 year play-throughs as Powys wasn't able to go to war once

That's right. I had twins in the one demo. A boy and a girl. I thought that was a very nice touch.

I do wish that it was released at the same time across the globe and not at a set certain time, depending on where you live

I like it actually. It means you've got to put some work in to get a CB one way or another, and there are several different ways. I've managed to get involved in a number of wars so far in various demo games, and of course there will always be infidels to attack if you need to. |

So I preordered on Steam a couple weeks ago. It says it unlocks in about 16 hours so that's noon central standard time? I was hoping it would unlock at midnight. Also I don't see a preload option, I guess it has to be a pretty major release to get that treatment?

Just had all three of my sons nab the homosexual trait. The third one I married off to a Muslim girl with high stats who was also homosexual. I figured I might as well get use out of them since I'm not getting kids

I've never seen the homosexual trait in any of the demo games I played.

Thanks DT!! 1 hour for it to be unblocked in Spain, will try to play a little bit before going out for dinner with wife.
What a weird choice of date to release a game, will cost more than one marriage.

Looking forward to trying this game out. Never played before, but I've always been fascinated by the time period.

I went to my games and selected download from there. Just played a four plus hour game in Ireland. Only three more countries to go before I've united the Island. Waited for my original character to die (lived to be 73) before making myself King with the son. I really miss the succession law where the strongest son inherits the highest title. |

That succession is called Turkish Succession now, I think, and is only available to Muslims. The tradeoff is that females can never inherit if you play a Muslim.

Someone just posted that it's rumored to be coming in DLC. If that's the case, that's fine. I'd pay for the ability to play Muslims and pagans, as my first dynasty idea is related to that.
I'll just fiddle around with a count without dynasty until then.

I just finished to watch today's chapter from the Spanish TV serie "Toledo" about the king Alfonso X when Toledo, my city, was the capital of the Spanish empire (year 1270) and was full of intrigues etc in the king's court.
Nothing better to put me in the mood to play the game

I played about 25 years yesterday as Duke Dirk of Holland, the cliff notes :
- came off age after 4 years - married a norwegian princess (who is right now princess of England and for a little while was first in line for succession. Question : What would have happened then to me ?) - had 2 sons and 3 daughters, the first son came off age pretty decent after education him, great military mind. - took over the land/area of Sticht next to me (but can´t do much on the other lands surrounding me even with claims, as no common liege or sth like that) now i´m more or less cruising along looking for sth to do, not sure how long i´ll keep it going. Questions : How do you gain support for law changes ? The Kaiser keeps offering me a spot as chancellor, what does that do for me ? Also i still can´t install a mod, could someone dumb it down for me, a lot maybe ? Last edited by whomario : 02-15-2012 at 04:35 AM. |

The game is very slow paced. I also play slower than most because I try to role play my position.
Becoming the chacellor gives you a monthly prestige bonus. Prestige = points and political power. For any item, if there is a greyed "?" button you can hover over the button and it will tell you the requirements for it. For many laws, you need to be ruler for X years. |

So, looks like I'll have to wait for my video card to come back. |

Also, I find the Duchy level to be the most fun. Being King can be great at times, but I find it more fun working my way up than being at the top. I start at the Count level, and it takes a good hundred years, maybe more for me to build up to a Duchy.

Start up Crusader Kings 2. When you get to the main screen, the in game store is one of options. Go there and log in with GG or Steam account. Chancellor means he has favor towards you and you help his kingdom out. Specifically? I'm not sure, but it probably is a paid position where you get money/prestige. Hover your mouse over the offer, it probably says what it does for you. It also makes you and him like each other more. Law changes need your vassals to approve and not revolt. You also can only make one law change per reign. To gain claims, you need to send your chancellor to another demise and fabricate the claim. Make sure you don't go to war over your Baron's claim unless you want him to have the land you conquered. I find myself hovering my mouse much more this time around. Early, non patch reviews are that if you have parents educate your child, they come off pretty good. The more green traits and the less red traits are good because your child could very well inherit those. Or just look for the best courtier to educate your child. Stats don't mean everything if they are going to get a bunch of future rebellious traits. You probably would have been King of England although residing in Holland still. Depending on your succession laws, it could have been your oldest son as the "playable" heir of England and owning your original province and the younger son possibly being the Duke of York et al. Your daughters could have also gained some land as countesses as well. Or it could have only gone to your oldest son. If you pick the inheritance where only the oldest (son or family member) inherits, get ready for lots of awful family reunions where everyone but the heir hates you. |

This is me with Paradox games. They look really appealing and I like the idea of what they seem to be trying to do. But once I install the game and begin playing, I get lost trying to figure out what I should/could be doing. At least for me, they don't seem to be particularly noob friendly. I want to like their games, but struggle every time I begin to fire one up. I neither want nor expect Paradox games to be easier in terms of their challenge or difficulty, but they could be easier in terms of figuring out what one is supposed to do. |
