Formula 1 to return to the US in 2012

And the location...

Austin, TX. Apparently they are going to build a new F1 racing arena from scratch.

This could revolutionize the way virtually no one in the US gives a fuck about F1.

Maybe they just need to promise it as the next generation of NASCAR ... now with two directions of turning?

Ten years ago I would have been excited. Today? Not so much.

This. I used to love F1, now there’s going to be a race 3 hours from my house and I could care less. I was actually getting excited about the USA team they were trying to put together, but that looks like it’s dead now.

About the only thing F1 has going for it is that it’s still better then Nascar. At least when an F1 driver gets to the end of a straight, he has to make a decision.

I honestly didn't think they raced again after 2005.

I just don't see this being profitable. They would have to pay Bernie the goon just a $20 million a year fee for the race, then spend at least $200-$300 million (I believe the track in Shanghai cost $500 million, and the track in Abu Dhabi neared a $1 billion) on a track that meets F1 standards (Indy is the only track in the U.S. that meets those standards). I also think this maybe a ploy to try to get Indy to come to the table and discuss hosting the race.

I'll go. I haven't followed it in over five years(is that when Schumacher left?), but it would be a good life experience since I will probably never make one overseas.

Dola...

I guess I haven't been paying attention as Michael Schumacher is driving for Mecredes this year. Maybe he'll be good again by 2012 when he gets to Austin.
