BBCF Fictional Dynasty: Columbus State Cougars

Thanks to digamma for the idea of editing Indy Temple to create a small college in Georgia. I have created the Columbus State Cougars. I edited them down to give us the lowest prestige in all of the NCAA.

PRESTIGE: Very Low
SOS: 59th
CONF PROJ: 4th
EXPECTATIONS: “Try to win a few games and not completley embarass us.
BEST OFFENSIVE PLAYER: QB Andrew Veals (55/55) is a pretty good touch passer.
BEST DEFENSIVE PLAYER: DE Deron Dolbin (64/64) looks like he could be pretty good at stopping the run and rushing the passer.
INITIAL OFFENSIVE PHILOSOPHY: Balanced
INITIAL DEFENSIVE PHILOSOPHY: 3-3-5
RIVAL: Syracuse (just left it, rather than trying to edit this. Arlie said it could be risky.)
STADIUM: Veterans Memorial seats 13,000 these days. It used to seat around 25K when Ga-Auburn played there, I think.

QB controversy to begin the career. With four guys so close to each other in abilities, I'm thinking that I want to go with the youngster, Wike, since I'm trying to build something here. I'll see if I can get Mowatt to re-shirt, along with Caster, of course.

Woodcock is the clear #1 tailback, and Hatchette gets the red shirt tag. At FB, I'm going to go with Domanick, who looks like the best blocker of my FB optoins.

I like the AI's picks of Owen and Perriman to start. Soph Settle will get the nod at WR3. Schafrath will red shirt, but I'm not expecting that much out of him...

T Brendon Leo looks like a very solid player for the future, and G Scrabis ain't exactly chopped liver. The rest of this unit, though, ain't too impressive looking.

I'm a 4-3 kind of guy, so we'll be switching this year. At DE, although Viger and dolbin are the starters, Kelcher should see some significant playing time this year, while Hiipple red shirts. Jarrett and Schubert will hold down the middle.

Wow. Hartings looks like a legit cover corner. I'll start Lougheed, with his nice potential, at the other corner. Bech and McCardell get the nod at safeies, and I'm hoping that Petitbon can live up to his potential eventually.

I budget a little more on offense than defense, and focus heavily on the southeast in recruiting. I don't expect to be able to recruit very far from home anyway, so why bother spend money there?

I leave offensive philosophy at balanced, and change defensive philosophy to 4-3.

Wow. You nearly took out Virginia. All Brooks Perriman does is catch touchdowns.

No kidding. 23 catches, 6 TD's.

OK, at the halfway point, I've updated my team HTML and player cards (and fixed the style sheet issue--player cards should look much nicer now).

MIDSEASON COMMENTS
Well, so far, despite having the worst prestige in all the land, we're not the worst team around. We've won a game, and we had a chance to win another, against a Top 25 team, no less. QB Wike has been erratic at times, but my main goal this year was to get the sophomore on the field to help him improve. WR Brooks "Big Play" Perriman has definitely been a bright spot, and Jr. G Erik Scabis has been lights-out on the LOS. We'll make sure to run behind him a little more the rest of the way.

2005 SEASON-END COMMENTS
We actually were a little more competitive than I would have thought we'd be. Still, we suck. I'm looking forward to being 3-4 seasons into the career when the team becomes "mine" from signing my own recruits. G Erik Scrabis was a clear bright spot on the team, and he was named 1st Team "All Independent." I am excited that he and RB Woodcock return. I'd like to see Woodcock put up 1,500+ yards next season. It remains to be seen whether or not QB Wike can be a viable option to lead the team.

BEGIN 2006 OFFSEASON
 • No job offers.
 • No one from CSU potentially going pro. (big surprise on those first two)
 • $1.73M budget
 • $26K per week recruiting budget
 • No coaches retiring/leaving
 • All new coaching staff. Bright spot is defensive coordinator Pervis Gessner, who is particularly good at scouting and developing linemen.
 • No one has interest above "Low" in transferring to CSU (another shocker), so I abstain from spending $$$ on that.
I'm not going to report week-by-week on recruiting, rather I'll just give a summary at the end.

My dad played football for Columbus State many years back and we both love the school. I now live in Texas, but still visit with my dad atleast once a year. I know I am probably not even on your radar right now, but I would love to visit Columbus State and meet with you and the team.

I am currently playing Outside Linebacker and think I could really help out your team next season. I know you have a limited number of scholarships, but my dad was a staple at Columbus State a few years back and I'd like to continue the family name there. So, I hope you will consider me in your recruiting.

Sincerely,

Will McDowell

I will, however, report on McDowell. The 2-star player will be the only out-of-region guy I pursue initially.

RECRUITING, WEEK 8
OK, so a brutha IS allowed to change his mind, isn't he? Starting in on the process, I decided that it might be fun (and useful) after all to chronicle my thoughts each week.

I have 15 schollies to give, and really no position appears to be locked up for the future, so I'll try to sign the 15 best guys I can get my hands upon. With a weekly budget so low, I will focus my efforts for at least the first several weeks in Georgia only, trying to find diamonds in the rough among the 1 and 2 star players, and making the occasional stab at a 3-star guy if the Dawgs and Jackets don't show him some love. For this season, and probably next, I'll only go after guys still in high school. No JUCOS yet, unless something weird happens.

This week, my goal is to scout a handful of players at each position. I don't think I'll “recruit” anyone except maybe a 3-star QB from in-state. That money can be spent later. For now, I just want to figure out who to target.

QUARTERBACKS
3-star prospect Monroe Schifino (Interest: 4), a kid outta Rome High, gets an immediate scholly offer. All of his preferred schools are in-region, so I decide to take a stab in the dark with full effort and “Location” as the pitch. There are six one-star guys in state, all with 9 or 10 interest. I decide to scout and watch list two of them: Washington's Jarret Pitts (47.0%, 5.2ypc at higher prestige hs), Forest Park's Jarius Hasty (best completion pct among the one-stars: 56.0%, 4.8ypc). I must say that it is rather humorous to see white QB's at Forest Park and Washington.

RUNNING BACKS
Oh man. This is hard to resist. There are two 5-star RB's in the state, and based on their lists of schools, both appear to highly value location. One has “5” interest in us. I just gotta pursue him, at least for a few weeks. His name is Koren Kirkland, a star at Albany with his 4.45 speed. I don't spend money on scouting him, just the “location” pitch and the scholly offer. There are also two 1-star guys in the state, with 9 and 10 interest. I scout 'em both this week.

FULLBACKS
Having overspent at QB and RB, I only scout the strongest one-star FB in the state, Calhoun's Darryll Jauron.

WIDE RECEIVERS
Dang, does Arlie need to add even MORE recruits? There's nary a one-star WR in Georgia, and only 1 2-star ones. However, there are 5 3-star guys. None of them have interest greater than 5, but four of those five look like they may heavily value location (interest levels of 4 and 5 in CSG). I scout those four, hoping that Tech and UGA won't pursue all four of 'em.

TIGHT ENDS
Another situation where I can hope to steal one. There are three 3-star TE's who look like location might be a key. I scout all three, plus a 1-star guy.

OFFENSIVE TACKLES
Not much hope of getting anyone good here. Three one-star guys are the only ones who look viable. I scout all three.

OFFENSIVE GUARDS
Hmmm...interesting situation here. The state has two 4-star guards, and a 3-star one who might be location-sensitive. If UGA and Tech can split the two big-timers, maybe I can land Chestatee High's Rudi Sutherland. I also scout a one-star guy with 10 interest from Cedar Shoals High.

CENTERS
No less than 16 D-1 prospects at center in Georgia this year, and six have interest in me of 8 or better. The 2-star guy among that group, Chad Harbaugh from Lincoln County, is a no-brainer for a closer look. I also scout Houston County's Marshall Northscutt, the strongest of the one-star guys.

DEFENSIVE ENDS
Two 4-star DE's are in the state, so I scout the 2 3-star guys, Apalchee's Ladell Claitt, and Brookwood's Mario Counts.

DEFENSIVE TACKLES
Thin year at DT in Georgia. No one better than 1 star. Mt. Zion's Zek Day stands out physically among them all, so he's the only one I scout this week, and I also go ahead and offer him a scholly.

INSIDE LINEBACKERS
10 2-4 star ILB's in-state this year, and most are interested in UGA and GT. I set my gaze on three of the 3-star guys, Effingham County's Ivory Turntine, Vidalia's Delvin Roach, and Colquitt County's Marlon Rudney. (ADDENDUM: After discovering that there are no SS's for me to really pursue this year, I spend some money recruiting Turntine, with location as the pitch.)

OUTSIDE LINEBACKERS
Good in-state depth here as well, so I scout a 3-star guy and a 2-star guy.

CORNERBACKS
Not a deep class at the corner, but a 2-star guy has 8 interest. I scout him, along with a 4-interest 3-star guy.

FREE SAFETIES
Due to the presence of two four-star FS's in the in-state pool, I go after the two 3-star guys, Darnerian Duhon from Tucker, and Greg Zukauskas from Augusta Butler.

STRONG SAFETIES
No in-state guys with interest >4, and I've got two SS's on the roster, neither of whom are seniors, so I abstain here, and go back and put the remaining $1,000 into recruiting ILB Ivory Turtine. I go ahead and offer him the scholly.

RECRUITING, WEEK 9

QUARTERBACKS

Quote:
QB Monroe Schifino: 2 other teams interested, 3 total offers on the table.
Quote:

Stop pursuing this guy. You have no chance at Schifino right now and I doubt that will change anytime soon. Continuing to waste time and effort with this guy would be a big mistake.

QB Jarius Hasty: 2 other teams interested, 0 total offers on the table.

We recommend going hard after this guy as you stand a great chance at landing Hasty. I would also offer him a scholarship ASAP.

QB Jarret Pitts: 0 other teams interested, 0 total offers on the table.

We recommend going hard after this guy as you stand a great chance at landing Pitts. I would also offer him a scholarship ASAP.

Schifinos' interest remains at 4, and it turns out that while Location is very important to him, Team Prestige is even more so. I'm outta here on him. My scout tells me that Hasty is better than Pitts, and that is affirmed by the fact that more teams are showing interest in him. I go ahead and make the scholly offer to Hasty, and I pitch Playing Time to him, which it has been revealed is very important. Based on the rest of my roster talent, he'd have a shot at starting as a red-shirt freshman, so it seems worth a shot.

RUNNING BACKS

Quote:
RB Koren Kirkland: 6 other teams interested, 2 total offers on the table.
Quote:

RB Artose Woods: 0 other teams interested, 0 total offers on the table.

We recommend going hard after this guy as you stand a great chance at landing Woods. I would also offer him a scholarship ASAP.

RB Chuck Joyce: 0 other teams interested, 0 total offers on the table.

We recommend going hard after this guy as you stand a great chance at landing Joyce. I would also offer him a scholarship ASAP.
Kirkland's interest remains at 5. I'll keep pursuing him for another week or two, I guess. My scout says that Joyce is better than Woods, so I put a minimum effort on Joyce this week as well.

FULLBACKS

Quote:
FB Darryll Jauron: 0 other teams interested, 0 total offers on the table.
Quote:

We are really struggling over what you should do here. Jauron likes your school, but you are not a top option for him given what we hear. Move forward with caution. At this point, a scholarship offer might be wasted on him. Still, you may sneak in if other teams get better options.
Jaurson looks pretty solid to me. I offer the scholly, and put 1250 effort into him.

WIDE RECEIVERS

Quote:
WR Marty Kreutz: 0 other teams interested, 0 total offers on the table.
Quote:

We are really struggling over what you should do here. Kreutz likes your school, but you are not a top option for him given what we hear. Move forward with caution. At this point, a scholarship offer might be wasted on him. Still, you may sneak in if other teams get better options.

WR Clendon Kinnebrew: 1 other teams interested, 0 total offers on the table.

Stop pursuing this guy. You have no chance at Kinnebrew right now and I doubt that will change anytime soon. Continuing to waste time and effort with this guy would be a big mistake.

WR Aveion Trufant: 2 other teams interested, 1 total offers on the table.

We can't see you landing this guy in all honesty. Things may change as different teams find other options. Still, Trufant has numerous better options and your efforts may end up being wasted here.

WR J.T. Bivins: 2 other teams interested, 1 total offers on the table.

We can't see you landing this guy in all honesty. Things may change as different teams find other options. Still, Bivins has numerous better options and your efforts may end up being wasted here.
Given the scouting of the players, and the comments above, I decide to heavily pursue 2-star WR Marty Kreutz, a kid outta Marietta High scouted 53 in catching. I go with the “Location” pitch.

TIGHT ENDS

Quote:
TE Randy Vines: 2 other teams interested, 2 total offers on the table.
Quote:

We can't see you landing this guy in all honesty. Things may change as different teams find other options. Still, Vines has numerous better options and your efforts may end up being wasted here.

TE Bradford Saffer: 0 other teams interested, 0 total offers on the table.

This is a tough call. You are on the outside looking in with Saffer, as some other teams are ahead of you. Still, we recommend keeping up an effort at landing him. If have an open scholarship, you may want to use it on him if there are no better options.

TE Tony Heinrich: 4 other teams interested, 1 total offers on the table.

Stop pursuing this guy. You have no chance at Heinrich right now and I doubt that will change anytime soon. Continuing to waste time and effort with this guy would be a big mistake.

TE Spec Shelton: 2 other teams interested, 1 total offers on the table.

We can't see you landing this guy in all honesty. Things may change as different teams find other options. Still, Shelton has numerous better options and your efforts may end up being wasted here.
My scouting tells me that Spec Shelton could be the real deal. I'm going to pursue him for a bit, with a scholly offer and a playing time pitch, as he says that location is somewhat important.

OFFENSIVE TACKLES

Quote:
OT Na Pritchard: 1 other teams interested, 1 total offers on the table.
Quote:

We are really struggling over what you should do here. Pritchard likes your school, but you are not a top option for him given what we hear. Move forward with caution. At this point, a scholarship offer might be wasted on him. Still, you may sneak in if other teams get better options.

OT Riall Clancy: 1 other teams interested, 1 total offers on the table.

You appear to be in his final group, so we recommend that you keep recruiting Clancy. I would consider offering him a scholarship if you can spare it.

OT Alvin Burkett: 0 other teams interested, 0 total offers on the table.

We recommend going hard after this guy as you stand a great chance at landing Burkett. I would also offer him a scholarship ASAP.
Of the three guys I scouted, Burkett appears to be the best, and considering the comment above, he gets the scholly offer, and a 1250 pitch for now.

OFFENSIVE GUARDS

Quote:
OG Rudi Sutherland: 2 other teams interested, 0 total offers on the table.
Quote:

Stop pursuing this guy. You have no chance at Sutherland right now and I doubt that will change anytime soon. Continuing to waste time and effort with this guy would be a big mistake.

OG LaDairis Laskey: 0 other teams interested, 0 total offers on the table.

You appear to be in his final group, so we recommend that you keep recruiting Laskey. I would consider offering him a scholarship if you can spare it.
Man, Sutherland is a good-looking prospect, and has no offers. Playing time is very important to him, so I pursue him all the way, with that pitch, and a scholarship offer.

CENTERS

Quote:

C Chad Harbaugh: 1 other teams interested, 1 total offers on the table.

We recommend going hard after this guy as you stand a great chance at landing Harbaugh. I would also offer him a scholarship ASAP.

C Marshall Northcutt: 0 other teams interested, 0 total offers on the table.

We recommend going hard after this guy as you stand a great chance at landing Northcutt. I would also offer him a scholarship ASAP.

Despite being a one-star guys as opposed to Harbaugh's two, Northcutt is scouted as a better blocker, and his workout numbers are better, too. I go after Northcutt, with 1,500 effort and Location (very important) pitch.

DEFENSIVE ENDS

Quote:
DE Mario Counts: 1 other teams interested, 0 total offers on the table.
Quote:

We are really struggling over what you should do here. Counts likes your school, but you are not a top option for him given what we hear. Move forward with caution. At this point, a scholarship offer might be wasted on him. Still, you may sneak in if other teams get better options.

DE Ladell Claitt: 2 other teams interested, 1 total offers on the table.

We can't see you landing this guy in all honesty. Things may change as different teams find other options. Still, Claitt has numerous better options and your efforts may end up being wasted here.
Claitt is scouted as a stud, and has Playing Time as “Very Important.” He certainly could play early for us, so I pursue him all the way, hoping his 5 interest increases.

DEFENSIVE TACKLES

Quote:
DT Zek Day: 3 other teams interested, 2 total offers on the table.
Quote:

We recommend going hard after this guy as you stand a great chance at landing Day.

I pursue him hard and heavy.

INSIDE LINEBACKERS
ILB Ivory Turntine: 2 other teams interested, 2 total offers on the table.

Stop pursuing this guy. You have no chance at Turntine right now and I doubt that will change anytime soon. Continuing to waste time and effort with this guy would be a big mistake.

ILB Delvin Roach: 3 other teams interested, 1 total offers on the table.

Stop pursuing this guy. You have no chance at Roach right now and I doubt that will change anytime soon. Continuing to waste time and effort with this guy would be a big mistake.

ILB Marlon Rudnay: 0 other teams interested, 0 total offers on the table.

We are really struggling over what you should do here. Rudnay likes your school, but you are not a top option for him given what we hear. Move forward with caution. At this point, a scholarship offer might be wasted on him. Still, you may sneak in if other teams get better options.
1I take the advice and stop pursuing Turntine, and set my sights, for now, on Rudnay. He's scouted as being a pretty solid player.

OUTSIDE LINEBACKERS

Quote:
OLB Will McDowell: 0 other teams interested, 1 total offers on the table.
Quote:

We recommend going hard after this guy as you stand a great chance at landing McDowell.

OLB Darnay Coates: 3 other teams interested, 1 total offers on the table.

Stop pursuing this guy. You have no chance at Coates right now and I doubt that will change anytime soon. Continuing to waste time and effort with this guy would be a big mistake.

OLB Ndukwe Reich: 3 other teams interested, 2 total offers on the table.

Stop pursuing this guy. You have no chance at Reich right now and I doubt that will change anytime soon. Continuing to waste time and effort with this guy would be a big mistake.
Legacy McDowell has some pretty solid scouting numbers, so I continue to pursue him

CORNERBACKS

Quote:
CB Emmitt Mahe: 3 other teams interested, 1 total offers on the table.
Quote:

Stop pursuing this guy. You have no chance at Mahe right now and I doubt that will change anytime soon. Continuing to waste time and effort with this guy would be a big mistake.

CB Tank Boso: 4 other teams interested, 0 total offers on the table.

This is a tough call. You are on the outside looking in with Boso, as some other teams are ahead of you. Still, we recommend keeping up an effort at landing him. If have an open scholarship, you may want to use it on him if there are no better options.
Boso is scouted as being fairly decent. I go after him.

FREE SAFETIES

Quote:
FS Darnerian Duhon: 2 other teams interested, 1 total offers on the table.
Quote:

Stop pursuing this guy. You have no chance at Duhon right now and I doubt that will change anytime soon. Continuing to waste time and effort with this guy would be a big mistake.

FS Greg Zukauskas: 3 other teams interested, 1 total offers on the table.

Stop pursuing this guy. You have no chance at Zukauskas right now and I doubt that will change anytime soon. Continuing to waste time and effort with this guy would be a big mistake.
With no schollies left to offer and no solid prospects, I remove both of these guys from my watch list. I probably won't pursue any safeties this year.

QUARTERBACKS

Looking good for Jarius Hasty. Only offer.

RUNNING BACKS
Kirkland's interest remains at 5. I'll keep pursuing him for a bit. Joyce has strong interest in us, UGA and Tech, and those are the only three on his list.

FULLBACKS
Looking good for Jauron.

WIDE RECEIVERS
We've got the only offer on the table for Kreutz. Say away, Dawgs and Jackets! Stay away!

TIGHT ENDS
Turns out that playing time is not important to Spec Shelton. Time to cut bait. I put 1500 effort into Bradford Saffer, and scout the other one-star TE in the state, Lawrence Bullard from Callaway High in Hogansville.

OFFENSIVE TACKLES
Still looking good for Alvin Burkett.

OFFENSIVE GUARDS
Sutherland still has no other offers, and it turns out that the Playing Time pitch I offered him is most important to him. He's staying on the list.

CENTERS
Marshall Northcutt is looking very likely to come over to the Fountain City.

DEFENSIVE ENDS
Ladell Clait's interest remains at 5, despite me nailing the Pitch (Playing Time). C'mon, Ladell, you can start as a freshman at this joint!!!

DEFENSIVE TACKLES
I continue to heavily pursue Zek Day. Got his pitch correct, too.

INSIDE LINEBACKERS
I continue to pursue Colquitt County's Marlon Rudnay. His interest, however, is only at five currently.

OUTSIDE LINEBACKERS
Will McDowell, a legacy player from Texas, is looking like he's coming east.

CORNERBACKS
Tank Boso's interest in the Cougars shoots up to 10! Nice.

Hey, it was worth dreaming about, but as with most dreams, it came to an end: 5-star RB Koren Kirkland commits to Clemson this week.

QUARTERBACKS

Still looking good for Jarius Hasty. Only offer.

RUNNING BACKS
With Kirkland out of the picture, I drop down to my league, Emmanuel County Institute's one-star RB, Chuck Joyce, gets his first scholarship offer. There's also a random 3-star guy from Cali who suddenly has 9 interest in the CSG, so I offer Manch Sapolu a scholly, sight unseen.

FULLBACKS
Looking good for Jauron.

WIDE RECEIVERS
Still the only offer here for 5-interest Marty Kreutz.

TIGHT ENDS
Bradord Saffer from Hawkinsville is muling over my offer—the only one he has.

OFFENSIVE TACKLES
Still looking good for Alvin Burkett.

Marshall Northcutt is looking very likely to come over to the Fountain City from Houston County High.

DEFENSIVE ENDS
Ladell Claitt's interest stays at five yet another week. I'm not giving up, though (although maybe I should). He has one other offer—I'm guessing from Tech.

DEFENSIVE TACKLES
I continue to heavily pursue Zek Day. Got his pitch correct, too.

INSIDE LINEBACKERS
Marlon Rudnay's interest remains at five, but with no other offers.

OUTSIDE LINEBACKERS
Will McDowell, a legacy player from Texas, is still looking like he's coming east.

CORNERBACKS
Tank Boso's interest in the Cougars remains at 10. Let's keep it there, Tank!

RECRUITING, WEEK 13

I'll list only changes/commitments/updates from here on out...

Only four of the guys I have offers in to have more than one offer: RB Sapulo, G Sutherland, DE Claitt, and DT Day, but I continue to pursue all four of them, too. Also, forsome reason OLB McDowell's interest in me has plummetted to one. My best guess as to why is that I haven't done any pitch to him in my recruiting. It has just been general, as I haven't been able to afford to scout him. If this is the case, then good. The kid ought to make me come see him at SOME point.

RECRUITING, WEEKS 14-15

No changes of note Week 14....

Week 15, we see movement.

QUARTERBACKS

Jarius Hasty commits to us this week.

RUNNING BACKS
Sapolu's interest quickly fades, as it looks like he has an offer from out west. Still looking good for Chuck Joyce, who has no other offers.

FULLBACKS
Looking good for Jauron.

WIDE RECEIVERS
STILL the only offer here for 5-interest Marty Kreutz. C'mon, Marty. Get over your “Very Important” prestige pride and come on down to the C-S-G.

TIGHT ENDS
Bradord Saffer from Hawkinsville is muling over my offer—the only one he has.

OFFENSIVE TACKLES
Still looking good for Alvin Burkett.

OFFENSIVE GUARDS
Rudi Sutherland commits to 'Bama. 11Th-hour jerks. I scout some guys across the country with no offers and a new interest in Columbus State.

CENTERS
Marshall Northcutt is still looking like a very likely commitment.

DEFENSIVE ENDS
Ladell Claitt's interest stays at five yet another week. I'm not giving up, though (although maybe I should). He has two other offers now.

DEFENSIVE TACKLES
Zek Day from Mt. Zion High commits.

INSIDE LINEBACKERS
Marlon Rudnay's interest remains at five, but with no other offers.

OUTSIDE LINEBACKERS
Darnay Coates, a three-star player from Irwin County, has fallen through the cracks up to now and has some interest in coming to Columbus. I recruit him hard and heavy.

CORNERBACKS
Tank Boso's interest in the Cougars remains at 10. Let's keep it there, Tank!

RECRUITING, WEEK 16

RUNNING BACKS

I was right about Sapolu. He commits to Idaho. Chuck Joyce is my #1 choice at this point.

FULLBACKS
Still looking pretty good to land Darryll Jauron.

WIDE RECEIVERS
Said this last week, it still applies: “STILL the only offer here for 5-interest Marty Kreutz. C'mon, Marty. Get over your “Very Important” prestige pride and come on down to the C-S-G.”

TIGHT ENDS
Bradord Saffer from Hawkinsville is mulling over my offer—the only one he has.

OFFENSIVE TACKLES
Still looking good for Alvin Burkett.

OFFENSIVE GUARDS
A kid outta Cedar Choals named LaDairis Laskey looks like he could be a half-decent option here at the 11th hour, so I make him an offer..

CENTERS
Marshall Northcutt is still looking like a very likely commitment.

DEFENSIVE ENDS
I may struggle to sign anyone here. More money will be spent next week.

INSIDE LINEBACKERS
Marlon Rudnay's interest remains at five, but with no other offers.

OUTSIDE LINEBACKERS
A kid from Colorado now has 10 interest. I make him an offer.

CORNERBACKS
Tank Boso's interest in the Cougars remains at 10. Let's keep it there, Tank!

On offense, the plan is to run more than pass, with Noland Woodcock running over LG Erik Scrabis a LOT. Defensively, since our secondary is the strength, we'll blitz a ton and play mostly M2M.

FIRST HALF REPORT
(a little less detail this season)

WEEK ONE (vs. Maryland, +20)
We have a semi-respectable game against the Terps, losing 28-7, although we gave up 550 yards of offense. Brights spots on the day were RB Woodcock (17 carries, 85 yards, 1 TD), Scrabis (3 pancakes, 1 KRB) and TE Gillette (4 catches for 103 yards). QB Mowatt threw 3 INT's, but was 14 of 25 for 204 yards.

POSTGAME INJURY REPORT
WR Kordell Settle will not be playing this week because of his Groin (Pulled). We are making good progress, though, so keep monitoring him over the next few weeks.
OT Brenden Leo is saddled with an injury to his Foot (Complete Ligament Tear). His performance would certainly suffer if you played him so we recommend letting have a little more time to get back closer to 100%.

OT Alvin Burkett is out a couple months with his Elbow (Complete Ligament Tear). We will do what we can to get him back into action as soon as possible, but we can't make any promises at this point.

WEEK TWO (at Virginia, +24)
UVA seems to have remembered last year's close call in Columbus, 'cause this time they put us over their collective knees. 44-10 Cavs. Woodcock rushes for 102 yards, though, and Scrabis gets a couple more pancakes and KRB's. I can't wait to see what these guys do against weaker competition.

POSTGAME INJURY REPORT
WR Kwame Lytle is recovering from an injury to his Knee (Inflammation). He seems to be progressing well and we recommend playing him this week.
WR Kordell Settle is saddled with an injury to his Groin (Pulled).

OT Brenden Leo will not be playing this week because of his Foot (Complete Ligament Tear). We are making good progress, though, so keep monitoring him over the next few weeks.

CB Saleem Lougheed is really hampered by an injury to his Forearm (Torn Tendon). He could play as an absolute last resort, but we would strongly advise against it.

WEEK THREE (vs. 0-2 Troy, E)
Well, we outgained Troy on the day, but are undone by two turnovers and a punt return TD for a 24-7 loss. Mowatt sucks. Her went 12 for 30 against this weak competition. We're going in another direction next week, probably back to Jermane Wike. Woocock (28x130) continues to impress.

OFF WEEK FOUR

WEEK FIVE (vs. 3-1 Ultimate Evil, +28)
PREGAME INJURY REPORT
QB Erric Mowatt is out a couple months with his Patella (Broken). We will do what we can to get him back into action as soon as possible, but we can't make any promises at this point. Good riddance.
OT Alvin Burkett is out a couple months with his Elbow (Complete Ligament Tear). We will do what we can to get him back into action as soon as possible, but we can't make any promises at this point. Continues to sit.

DT Zek Day is trying to play through an injury to his Heel/Achilles (Strain). He seems willing to give it a go, but we would recommend giving him another week to recover. He hasn't done much this year anyway. I sit him in favor of Antwaan Nobis)

CB Saleem Lougheed is really hampered by an injury to his Forearm (Torn Tendon). He could play as an absolute last resort, but we would strongly advise against it. Sits.

CB Riall Hartings is recovering from an injury to his Foot (Torn Tendon). He seems to be progressing well and we recommend playing him this week. Starts

We get waxed 37-0 at home, as we give up 622 yards of offense. Wike is 5 for 21 for 187 yards. I'll give him one more shot next week before trying my #3. Woodcock was held to 22 carries and 76 yards for the day.

WEEK SIX (at 3-1 FIU, +4)

PREGAME INJURY REPORT

QB Erric Mowatt is out a couple months with his Patella (Broken). We will do what we can to get him back into action as soon as possible, but we can't make any promises at this point.

**FB O.J. Howry is recovering from an injury to his Lower Back (Slipped Disc). He seems to be progressing well and we recommend playing him this week. Will play.

OT Alvin Burkett is out a couple months with his Elbow (Complete Ligament Tear). We will do what we can to get him back into action as soon as possible, but we can't make any promises at this point. Continues to si.

**OT Elvin Primus is recovering from an injury to his Nose (Laceration). He seems to be progressing well and we recommend playing him this week. Will play.

DT Zek Day is really hampered by an injury to his Heel/Achilles (Strain). He could play as an absolute last resort, but we would strongly advise against it. Sits again.

CB Riall Hartings is recovering from an injury to his Foot (Torn Tendon). He seems to be progressing well and we recommend playing him this week. Starts again

CB Saleem Lougheed is really hampered by an injury to his Forearm (Torn Tendon). He could play as an absolute last resort, but we would strongly advise against it. Sits again.

**--represents new injuries this week.

DT Ki-Jana Jarrett is declared academically ineligible for the next grading period, our first academic casualty this year.

Great day in the morning. Our QB's STINK. Wike earns himself a spot on the bench once again with a 17/37 3 Int performance in a 24-9 loss. The Pride of Kendrick High, Jerame Caster, will start the next one. Woodcock has another strong game:18 carries, 100 yards.

WEEK SEVEN (at 1-4 Idaho, +3)

PREGAME INJURY REPORT

QB Erric Mowatt is out a couple months with his Patella (Broken). We will do what we can to get him back into action as soon as possible, but we can't make any promises at this point.

OT Alvin Burkett is out a couple months with his Elbow (Complete Ligament Tear). We will do what we can to get him back into action as soon as possible, but we can't make any promises at this point.

DT Zek Day is saddled with an injury to his Heel/Achilles (Strain). His performance would certainly suffer if you played him so we recommend letting have a little more time to get back closer to 100%.. His replacement has outplayed him, so he is in the depth chart as a backup the rest of the way.

CB Riall Hartings will not be playing this week because of his Foot (Torn Tendon). We are making good progress, though, so keep monitoring him over the next few weeks. Guess I shouldn't have kept playing him, huh?

CB Saleem Lougheed is really hampered by an injury to his Forearm (Torn Tendon). He could play as an absolute last resort, but we would strongly advise against it. Still sitting.

**CB Cie Finks is struggling with an injury to his Foot (Laceration). He is able to play this weekend, but I don't think he would be anywhere close to 100%. The smart move would be to let him sit and check again next week. In depth chart as backup only.

**CB Priest Nance is recovering from an injury to his Shoulder (Frayed Labrum). He seems to be progressing well and we recommend playing him this week. Plays this week.

**SS Damien McCardell is really hampered by an injury to his Elbow (Bone Chips). He could play as an absolute last resort, but we would strongly advise against it. Backup only

Different QB, same freakin' result. Caster goes 10 for 26 for 125 yards, but with no INT's. Still, we fall 33-10 due to a 20-point fourth quarter explosion by Idaho. OT Rohan Monroe insures that he'll never start again by giving up FOUR sacks on the day. Woodcock just rambles along: 23 carries for 109 yards.

MIDSEASON THOUGHTS

1. I gotta find a quarterback
2. Noland Woodcock is a stud.
3. I gotta find a quarterback.
4. Erik Scrabis is a stud, too.
5. Unless I win some games, I'm not going to get any better recruits. I gotta find a quarterback.
6. Did I mention that I gotta find a quarterback?

OK. Sorry, but reports are going to have to bee less frequent for a while. My router went kaput. Normally I play the game on the desktop, and write the reports as I go on the laptop. I won't have that luxury until I get the situation resolved, and when you get used to a semi-luxury, anything else is very annoying (especially in a full-screen game). I'll do HTML beginning and half-season reports for now, and copy and paste recruit e-mails with commentary, I think.

BEGIN 2007 OFFSEASON

 • No job offers.
 • No one from CSU potentially going pro. (big surprise on those first two)
 • $1.68M budget (-$50K)
 • $25K per week recruiting budget (-$1K).
 • All new coaching staff. I decided to way overspend here to try to scout/develop some guys.
 • No one has interest above "Low" in transferring to CSU (another shocker), so I abstain from spending $$$ on that.

Oh I'm right with you on that. I'm struggling rebuilding Arkansas, myself, and loving it.

Good luck, I'll be checking in on you.

I agree. This might take longer than Savanah State.
