Vincent Wins CL Batter of the Month
Friday, May 1st, 2144: Patrick Vincent of the Noblesville Millers stood out in April with a .374 batting average against Continental League pitchers to land him the Batter of the Month award.

The 27-year-old left fielder totaled 5 home runs, 19 RBIs and 22 runs scored. He also chipped in 15 walks for a .491 on-base percentage.


Edwards Crowned Batter of the Month in April
Friday, May 1st, 2144: When Bob Edwards stepped up to the plate in April, he did it with confidence and today he was honored with the Republic League Batter of the Month award.

The young Ann Arbor left fielder posted a .381 batting average with 5 home runs, 17 RBIs and scored 21 runs. Edwards also worked pitchers for 12 walks to post a .459 on-base percentage.

April's CL Top Pitcher is Gothams Torres
Friday, May 1st, 2144: Despite the number of years he's been in the league, Ignacio Torres still gets excited when he puts together a quality stretch like he had in April. The 35-year-old starter for Baltimore was named Continental League Pitcher of the Month earlier today.

He collected 4 wins and no losses with 18 strikeouts in his 5 starts, putting up a fine 2.52 ERA in 35.2 innings of work.


Mena Nets RL #1 Pitcher Award
Friday, May 1st, 2144: Veteran Carlos Mena put together quite a successful stretch in April for the Chico Rebels, earning himself the Republic League Pitcher of the Month award.

Mena racked up a 5-0 record in 5 starts, posting a 2.63 ERA over 41 innings and striking out 21.

Chad Rodríguez is May's #1 Hitter in CL
Monday, June 1st, 2144: Chad Rodríguez battered Continental League pitchers all May and wound up taking home the Batter of the Month Award.

"I've been around Front Office Offseason League long enough to know you really have to work hard day in and day out to be able to put up this kind of consistency," the 30-year-old Rodríguez told reporters. "I put in a lot of work, even on the days I might not take the field, and it's always nice when everything comes together for me like it did this last month."

In 24 games, Rodríguez hit .336 with 4 home runs, 16 RBIs and scored 18 runs.

So far this season Rodríguez has 7 home runs and a .268 batting average.


RL Honors Sandoval, Best Hitter in May
Monday, June 1st, 2144: May's Batter of the Month has been chosen by the Republic League. This month's trophy was awarded to the Ann Arbor first baseman, Héctor Sandoval.

He starred by hitting .341 with a .396 on-base percentage, totaled 30 hits in 88 at-bats, 11 home runs, 23 RBIs and 18 runs scored.

Sandoval is currently batting .331 with 15 home runs, 39 RBIs and 31 runs scored. He has 55 hits in 166 at-bats.

CL's Premier Starter is López
Monday, June 1st, 2144: Mario López took a much-deserved turn in the spotlight earlier today as he accepted the Continental League Pitcher of the Month award for May.

The 23-year-old Brownstones starter is a relative newcomer to the league, but nonetheless racked up an impressive 4-1 won-lost record in 6 starts. This month he fanned 19 batters in 40 innings and compiled a 2.02 ERA.

On his stats sheet for the year López shows a 4-4 record, 10 starts, 57 innings, 30 strikeouts and a 4.11 ERA.


RL Top Pitcher for May Picked
Monday, June 1st, 2144: Whether Tony López stays in Chico beyond this season remains to be seen, but while he's here he's making the most of it. In May the 31-year-old certainly pulled out all the stops by winning the Republic League Pitcher of the Month award.

He put up some fancy numbers with a 4-1 record and and an ERA of 0.23. In 39.2 innings he struck out 32, surrendered 27 hits, 7 walks and proved to be a solid performer in 5 starts last month.

López has made 10 starts so far this year and put up a 6-3 won-lost record with a 1.65 ERA. In 76.1 innings he has allowed 61 hits, walked 16 and struck out 59.

CL Chooses Rookie of the Month
Monday, June 1st, 2144: Jorge Fernández earned May's Rookie of the Month honors in the Continental League for last month's performance. The boyish Baltimore second baseman might be wet behind the ears, but he's proving that he has what it takes to play at this level.

Fernández hit .246 with 3 home runs, 7 RBIs and 10 runs scored this past month on his way to winning the award.

This season Fernández is batting .259 with 3 home runs. His totals include 22 RBIs and 30 runs scored.


Rookie Reaps Reward This Month
Monday, June 1st, 2144: What a fantastic May it was for Héctor Sandoval! The Ann Arbor first baseman battered Republic League hurlers for a .341 batting average as he easily claimed the Rookie of the Month Award.

He tallied 11 home runs, 23 RBIs and 18 runs scored in the month-long assault. Sandoval also had 7 walks for a .396 on-base percentage.

If he continues to outpace the rookie class like this, he could very well be the 2144 Benny Myers Rookie of the Year Award winner.

So far this season Sandoval is batting .331 with 15 home runs, 39 RBIs and 31 runs scored. He has 55 hits in 166 at-bats, 18 walks and a .396 OBP. Sandoval has played in 44 games.

CL Best Hitter Award to Noblesville's Pung-cho Kim
Wednesday, July 1st, 2144: In June, Pung-cho Kim was the toughest out in the Continental League and that is the prime reason he was voted the Batter of the Month.

The Noblesville first baseman rapped out 41 hits in 97 at-bats for a .423 batting average, hit 3 home runs, drove in 13 runs and scored 19 times.

So far on the season Kim is hitting .384 with 9 home runs, 39 RBIs and 48 runs scored. He has 114 hits and played in 76 games.


RL's Best Batter Picked
Wednesday, July 1st, 2144: June's Batter of the Month has been chosen by the Republic League. This month's trophy was awarded to the Hartford first baseman, Bryan Huff.

He starred by hitting .404 with a .431 on-base percentage, totaled 44 hits in 109 at-bats, 9 home runs, 35 RBIs and 18 runs scored.

This year Huff is hitting .350 with 19 home runs.

Valdéz Takes CL #1 Pitcher Trophy
Wednesday, July 1st, 2144: Félix Valdéz is at the zenith of his career and today he was selected as the Continental League Pitcher of the Month for June.

He made 15 relief appearances for Baltimore last month, throwing 13 innings and collecting 9 saves, a 3-1 record, 15 strikeouts and a 2.08 ERA.

For the season Valdéz is 4-and-1 with 21 saves and a 1.46 ERA. He has given up 27 hits in 37 innings with 41 strikeouts.


Lugo Tabbed as June's Starter of the Month
Wednesday, July 1st, 2144: Jorge Lugo's been around the league long enough to appreciate the honor he received today. After going 6-0 in June, the 33-year-old Los Angeles hurler has been named Republic League Pitcher of the Month.

He fanned 32 in 48 innings, logged an ERA of 1.50 and allowed opponents to hit .225 against him.

So far this season Lugo has 10 wins and 3 losses and a 2.13 ERA.

Haney Grades Out as June's Top Rookie
Wednesday, July 1st, 2144: One of the bright young starters in the Continental League, Dane Haney is living up to the potential that Brownstones scouts thought might be there.

As a starter for Brooklyn, Haney paced his team with a 4-0 record in June to earn himself Rookie of the Month accolades.

He made 5 starts, tossed 34.2 innings, struck out 19 batters and allowed the opposition to hit .213 against him.

This year Haney has a 7-4 record and a 2.72 ERA.


Rookie First Baseman Honored by RL
Wednesday, July 1st, 2144: Youngster Larry Blakeney emerged as the latest Republic League Rookie of the Month today. The young man from Ann Arbor deserved the honor, batting .289 with 4 home runs and 16 RBI. Is the month of June a harbinger of things to come or just a fluke? We'll find out someday, but for now, we'll just let Blakeney enjoy the limelight.

Thus far this season in 78 games Blakeney is batting .266 with 15 home runs, 45 RBIs and 55 runs scored. He has 82 hits in 308 at-bats.

Tokyo's Solano Top CL Batter in July
Saturday, August 1st, 2144: Though his face is weathered and his hands are calloused, Juan Solano can still get it done in Front Office Offseason League. In fact, the 34-year-old left fielder for Tokyo was named the Continental League Batter of the Month today after putting up an impressive performance at the plate.

In July he batted .422 with 9 home runs, 25 RBIs and 22 runs scored.

This year Solano has hit 20 home runs and posted a .362 batting average.


Morales Wins Best Bat Award in July
Saturday, August 1st, 2144: On the heels of a very productive July, Víctor Morales received Republic League Batter of the Month recognition today.

The battle-tested center fielder hit .369 for the Chico Rebels and racked up 6 home runs, 25 RBIs and 16 runs scored.

Morales is currently hitting at a .327 pace with 20 home runs, 70 RBIs and has scored 51 times.

Pate Earns CL Top Pitcher Trophy
Saturday, August 1st, 2144: Butch Pate had an outstanding July -- so good that the Continental League presented him with the Pitcher of the Month Award earlier today.

"There's no way to know where the Winemakers would be without Pate," one fan is quoted as saying.

In July Pate dominated the competition, running up a 4-0 record, a 1.01 ERA and 23 strikeouts in 35.2 innings.

This season Pate has a 10-7 record with a 2.77 ERA in 21 starts.


Toronto Starter Named RL's Premier Pitcher
Saturday, August 1st, 2144: In July, when the name of Félix Román appeared on the Toronto lineup card it was a virtual lock on a victory. He started 4 times and chalked up 4 wins and no losses. With those stats it was a also a virtual lock that he would be named the Republic League Pitcher of the Month.

Román shackled opposing batters on 21 base hits and a .223 batting average. He rang up 22 strikeouts in 26.2 innings of work, surrendered 8 walks and fashioned a sparkling 2.03 ERA.

This season in 20 starts Félix Román has a record of 12-6 with 103 strikeouts in 131.2 innings and a 3.35 ERA.

CL Batter of the Month Honors to Popoca
Tuesday, September 1st, 2144: Free agent-to-be Juan Popoca has inflated his asking price over the past 30 days by winning the Continental League Batter of the Month.

In August, the 31-year-old Brooklyn left fielder hit .344 with 4 home runs and 20 RBIs.

If he keeps putting numbers like that up, he could be hauling in a big wad of cash at this time next year.

This season Popoca is batting .297 with 129 hits and 22 home runs. He has scored 69 times and has 77 RBI.

López Best CL Starter in August
Tuesday, September 1st, 2144: When Mario López takes the mound, a Brooklyn victory is usually the result. At least that's the way it was in August.

He excelled with a 4-0 mark and a 1.17 ERA in 5 starts, tossed 38.1 innings, fanned 21 and held opposing batters to a .234 average.

That's why the Brownstones starter was honored today as the Pitcher of the Month by the Continental League.

To date this year in 25 starts, López has crafted a 11-7 mark with a 3.58 ERA.

CL Announces Best Batter Award
Thursday, October 1st, 2144: When guys like Apex's Ron Caldwell win Batter of the Month awards, it just makes you feel good. In a productive September, the longtime Continental League veteran toyed with opposing pitchers all month long, collecting 32 hits in 83 at-bats.

The veteran catcher hit for a .386 batting average and collected 3 home runs, 14 RBIs and 8 runs scored.

For the season Caldwell has produced 137 hits in 531 at-bats for a .258 average with 17 home runs and gotten on base at a .353 clip.

A look at the Playoff Contenders

The Hartford Harpooners return to defend their title after beating Halifax last year in game 9, but that was their first Championship in 19 years. They are going for their 19th title. Maybe they should win with a score of 19-0.

The Halifax Winter Wolves are still licking their wounds out of their fur from last year. They still think somehow a scoring error was made and they actually won. Going for a modest 7th Classic title and they think they have the staff to do it again. Their last win was 5 years ago and since have returned to the playoffs 4 times.

The Baltimore Gothams are looking to regain the glory that was their threepeat (fee paid to Pat Riley) just 8 years ago.Since then, things have been abysmal, especially their 4 year stint at 5th and 6th. Could they now have the rookies to crush the league all over again? Looking for their 22nd title.

The Colorado Rancheros last won a Classic in 2110. It is now 2144. Do the math. No team here is more "due" than this team. In fact they've only had 2 wins in 89 years. Now they are going for their 14th title.
