2500 Hits for Weng
Tuesday, April 29th, 2138: It was a banner day for Hiang-ta Weng, who collected his 2500th hit in the Baltimore 10-5 win over Tokyo. Weng went 1-1 in the game as both Gothams and Cyclones fans cheered Weng, when he reached base after his hit.

"It feels great to get #2500," Weng said afterward, "especially since we won the game."

Weng is batting .273 lifetime with 2500 hits, 530 doubles, 58 triples, 386 home runs, 1496 RBIs to date. He has also scored 1516 runs.

Cornock Wins CL's Best Bat Award
Thursday, May 1st, 2138: Daryl Cornock is in the final year of his contract with Baltimore and today added a timely piece of hardware to his trophy case. Playing in 23 games in April the 33-year-old left fielder ripped Continental League pitchers for a .381 batting average, nabbing him the Batter of the Month award.

He also rang up 8 home runs, 27 RBIs and 18 runs scored.

If Cornock keeps up this pace, he'll cost someone a lot of money.

Great April Gets Noda RL Best Hitter Award
Thursday, May 1st, 2138: Toshikazu Noda, the Hartford right fielder, certainly made a name for himself this past month. He banged out a .377 batting average with 40 hits, 9 home runs, 16 RBIs and scored 24 times.

That kind of hitting earned him the Republic League Batter of the Month honors for April.

Brownstones Hurler Named April's Top Starter
Thursday, May 1st, 2138: In April, Martín Lozano tore through the Continental League like a seasoned veteran -- quite impressive for a player only 20 years old.

The young Brooklyn starter posted a 5-0 mark and an ERA of 1.00 to earn the Pitcher of the Month award. In 36 innings he collected 16 strikeouts while limiting the opposition to a .181 average.

Reliever April's Best Hurler in RL
Thursday, May 1st, 2138: The Republic League announced the winner of the Pitcher of the Month Award. It went to relief ace Travis Thompson of Hammersmith for his outstanding work on the mound.

During the month, Thompson stood out with 6 saves in 6 save opportunities, a 0.00 ERA and 1 win and no losses. In 9 innings he struck out 10 and gave up 4 hits and 1 walks.

The young Brooklyn starter posted a 5-0 mark and an ERA of 1.00 to earn the Pitcher of the Month award. In 36 innings he collected 16 strikeouts while limiting the opposition to a .181 average.

Rookie Wiz Gets April Award in CL
Thursday, May 1st, 2138: He's only in his debut season, but Martín Lozano performed more like a veteran on the hill for the Brooklyn Brownstones and walked away with April's Continental League Rookie of the Month Award in the process.

Last month this young hurler recorded 5 wins and no losses in 5 starts. He threw 36 innings, giving up 8 walks, fanning 16 and compiling a 1.00 ERA.

RL Selects Rookie Star of the Month
Thursday, May 1st, 2138: Youngster Victor Messer emerged as the latest Republic League Rookie of the Month today. The young man from Los Angeles deserved the honor, batting .277 with 4 home runs and 12 runs batted in. Is the month of April a harbinger of things to come or just a fluke? We'll find out someday, but for now, we'll just let Messer enjoy the limelight.

CL's Best Batter Selected
Sunday, June 1st, 2138: Prospective free agents love to have hot streaks and Daryl Cornock is no exception. The Baltimore left fielder capped off a fine month by hauling in Batter of the Month honors in the Continental League.

In May Cornock hit .372 with 7 home runs, 18 RBIs and 32 runs scored.

On the season, Cornock is batting .376 with 15 home runs and 45 RBIs. He has played in 50 games.

Chico's Ramos Top RL Batter in May
Sunday, June 1st, 2138: Juan Ramos of the Chico Rebels had a field day with Republic League pitchers last month and was crowned the Batter of the Month as a result.

During May he compiled a .418 batting average, drove in 24 runs and scored 26 times. He also managed to pick up 8 walks to post a .484 on-base percentage.

This year Ramos has hit 9 home runs and posted a .376 batting average.

Robinson CL Winner, Top Hurler in May
Sunday, June 1st, 2138: Despite the number of years he's been in the league, Lane Robinson still gets excited when he puts together a quality stretch like he had in May. The 29-year-old starter for Napa Valley was named Continental League Pitcher of the Month earlier today.

He collected 4 wins and 1 loss with 29 strikeouts in his 7 starts, putting up a fine 3.17 ERA in 48.1 innings of work.

In 13 starts this season Robinson has rung up a 7-1 record and a 2.72 ERA.

May's #1 Starter Named in RL
Sunday, June 1st, 2138: No doubt about it!
Los Angeles starter Jorge Lugo earned his Republic League Pitcher of the Month award.
He made that very clear as he mowed his way through league hitters in May.
During the month Lugo chalked up a 5-1 record with a 4.07 ERA.

The Bruins star made 6 starts and surrendered 41 hits in 42 innings. He struck out 27 and walked 5.

In 10 starts this season Lugo has chalked up a 6-3 record and a 3.36 ERA.

May's #1 Rookie Named by CL
Sunday, June 1st, 2138: Kevin Charles was named the top rookie in the Continental League for his outstanding performance last month.

In May, the Apex shortstop posted a .296 average while racking up 32 hits, 2 home runs and 18 RBIs.

For the year Charles is batting .240 with 50 hits and 3 home runs. He has scored 19 times and driven in 27.

Republic League Names Rookie of Month
Sunday, June 1st, 2138: A veritable toddler to the Republic League, Pedro Lozano just sewed up the Rookie of the Month trophy for May.

Over the past month the 25-year-old center fielder for Ann Arbor hit .353 with 36 hits, 7 home runs and 14 runs batted in. He also logged 3 walks and compiled a .383 on-base percentage.

This season Lozano has hit 9 home runs and posted a .295 batting average.

CL's #1 Batter Announced
Tuesday, July 1st, 2138: Juan Solano battered Continental League pitchers all June and wound up taking home the Batter of the Month Award.

"I've been around Front Office Offseason League long enough to know you really have to work hard day in and day out to be able to put up this kind of consistency," the 28-year-old Solano told reporters. "I put in a lot of work, even on the days I might not take the field, and it's always nice when everything comes together for me like it did this last month."

In 28 games, Solano hit .324 with 7 home runs, 26 RBIs and scored 21 runs.

Currently Solano is batting .285 with 15 home runs and 59 RBIs.

Olivares Grabs RL Best Batter Award for June
Tuesday, July 1st, 2138: Seasoned by several years of professional experience, 29-year-old Francisco Olivares put together a solid offensive month for Los Angeles and was crowned June's top batter in the Republic League.

He batted .393 with 7 home runs, 21 RBIs and 18 runs scored.

Hernández Snags CL Top Hurler Trophy
Tuesday, July 1st, 2138: It was a very good month for Luis Hernández in June. The 35-year-old veteran starter for the Baltimore Gothams outpitched everybody -- young and old -- to claim the Continental League Pitcher of the Month award earlier today.

Hernández ran up a 4-0 record in his 6 starts during the month. In 44.2 innings he fanned 42 and recorded a 1.01 ERA.

Hernández has gone 8-2 this season with an ERA of 1.84 and 104 strikeouts in 117.1 innings pitched. Other clubs are hitting .204 against him.

Hooligans Starter Named June's Premier Pitcher
Tuesday, July 1st, 2138: Veteran Sotatsu Otani put together quite a successful stretch in June for the Hammersmith Hooligans, earning himself the Republic League Pitcher of the Month award.

Otani racked up a 4-1 record in 5 starts, posting a 2.08 ERA over 39 innings and striking out 30.

To date this season Otani has compiled a 9-4 record with a 3.20 ERA in 16 starts.

Castro Voted June's Best CL Rookie
Tuesday, July 1st, 2138: Pedro Castro was toddling around on his tricycle when some of the guys he's playing against were in their prime, but the 22-year-old second baseman definitely knows how to get to first, second or beyond. Today he was chosen June's Continental League Rookie of the Month for his remarkable month of hitting.

In 25 games Castro batted .324 for Tokyo, slapping 22 hits in 68 at-bats with 1 home run, drove in 7 runs and scored 6 times.

Thus far this season Castro has hit .299 with 2 home runs, 15 RBIs and scored 19 times.

RL Names Lozano Best Rookie
Tuesday, July 1st, 2138: Pedro Lozano is still a bit shy, but then, who could blame the newest Republic League Rookie of the Month honoree? He hasn't been around the league long enough to fully know the ropes yet, despite the fact that he's putting up veteran-like numbers.

In June the Ann Arbor hitter tagged opposing pitching for a .315 average with 28 hits, 3 home runs and 10 RBIs.

Lozano is currently batting .301 with 12 home runs and 35 RBIs.

Cory Moore Selected July's Best Batter
Friday, August 1st, 2138: In July, Napa Valley Winemakers center fielder Cory Moore claimed the Continental League Batter of the Month award.

The 27-year-old swung with confidence, hitting .357 with 5 home runs, 26 RBIs and 14 runs scored.

This season Moore has 23 home runs and a .283 batting average.

Hartford's Noda Snags July Batting Title
Friday, August 1st, 2138: Toshikazu Noda got another reason to celebrate today as he followed up a great month of July at the plate by winning the Republic League Batter of the Month Award.

During the month, the Hartford right fielder hit .347 with 7 home runs, 12 RBIs and 24 runs scored.

In his season totals Noda has 25 home runs and a .334 batting average.

Friday, August 1st, 2138: Last month was a very successful month for Jorge Ibarra of Napa Valley. So successful that he has been honored as the Pitcher of the Month in the Continental League.

Friday, August 1st, 2138: In July, when the name of Paco Sánchez appeared on the Hartford lineup card it was a virtual lock on a victory. He started 6 times and chalked up 4 wins and 2 losses. With those stats it was a also a virtual lock that he would be named the Republic League Pitcher of the Month.

Halifax Rookie Reels in Reward in July
Friday, August 1st, 2138: José Mora's eyes seem to light up whenever he sees the baseball. The young Halifax center fielder has been hitting everything in sight for the better part of a month.

In July he was voted the Rookie of the Month Award.

During the month he hit .263 with 3 doubles, 1 triple and 7 home runs. Mora also scored 19 times and drove in 17 runs.

Mora is batting at a .213 pace this season, picking up 89 hits in 418 at-bats with 12 home runs, 36 RBIs and 52 runs scored.

Top Rookie of the Month Named by RL
Friday, August 1st, 2138: Raúl Guzmán earned July's Rookie of the Month honors in the Republic League for last month's performance. The boyish Hartford right fielder might be wet behind the ears, but he's proving that he has what it takes to play at this level.

Guzmán hit .354 with 4 home runs, 15 RBIs and 11 runs scored this past month on his way to winning the award.

In 83 games this season Guzmán has batted at a .284 pace with 95 hits and 13 home runs.

CL Batter of the Month Honors to Miyamoto
Monday, September 1st, 2138: Takiji Miyamoto, the Napa Valley second baseman, certainly made a name for himself this past month. He banged out a .362 batting average with 34 hits, 5 home runs, 19 RBIs and scored 20 times.

That kind of hitting earned him the Continental League Batter of the Month honors for August.

So far on the season Miyamoto is hitting .280 with 20 home runs, 55 RBIs and 80 runs scored. He has 133 hits and played in 127 games.

Bonce August's Best Bat Choice
Monday, September 1st, 2138: It's a time for celebration in Hammersmith as Armando Bonce has just walked away with August's Republic League Batter of the Month award.

He socked 38 hits in 92 at-bats to put up a .413 batting average, 9 home runs, 23 RBIs and 19 runs scored.

So far this year Bonce has 31 home runs and a .333 batting average.

Monday, September 1st, 2138: The Continental League scribes have picked August's Pitcher of the Month and have given the trophy to Jorge Ibarra of Napa Valley. He was devastating on the mound last month with a standout 4-1 mark.

The Winemakers star hurler made 7 starts with a 2.53 ERA and surrendered 31 hits in 42.2 innings. He struck out 36 and walked 21.

This season Ibarra has compiled a 12-8 mark with a 3.79 ERA in 32 starts.

López Takes RL #1 Pitcher Trophy
Monday, September 1st, 2138: Whether Miguel López stays in Hartford beyond this season remains to be seen, but while he's here he's making the most of it. In August the 35-year-old certainly pulled out all the stops by winning the Republic League Pitcher of the Month award.

He put up some fancy numbers with a 4-0 record and and an ERA of 2.28. In 43.1 innings he struck out 34, surrendered 32 hits, 5 walks and proved to be a solid performer in 6 starts last month.

So far this year López has compiled a 9-4 record with a 2.96 ERA.

Tokyo Center Fielder August's Top Rookie
Monday, September 1st, 2138: Ramiro Crespo was named the top rookie in the Continental League for his outstanding performance last month.

In August, the Tokyo center fielder posted a .293 average while racking up 22 hits, 3 home runs and 12 RBIs.

This season Crespo is batting .233 with 49 RBIs, 75 runs scored and 16 home runs.

Hartford Newcomer August's Best Rookie
Monday, September 1st, 2138: A rookie, Raúl Guzmán is turning heads around the Republic League, especially since he just netted August's Rookie of the Month trophy.

The Hartford right fielder batted .310 last month and collected 27 hits, 9 home runs, 21 RBIs and 20 runs scored.

This could be the first of many such awards if he continues this torrid hitting, but he's definitely put himself in a good position to claim the Benny Myers Rookie of the Year Award later this year.

Hitting .289 to date, Guzmán has 22 home runs and 69 RBIs. He has played in 107 games.

Wednesday, October 1st, 2138: Ramiro Crespo was declared the Continental League Batter of the Month today. Tokyo's center fielder stroked 33 hits in 84 at-bats for a .393 average in September.

He also hit 8 home runs, drove in 11 and scored 27 runs.

In 140 games this season Crespo has compiled a .259 batting average with 133 hits and 24 home runs. He has also scored 102 times and knocked in 60 runs.

RL Top Batter Trophy Won by Rangel
Wednesday, October 1st, 2138: September's outstanding offensive player in the Republic League has been picked and the honor goes to the Hammersmith third baseman Adrián Rangel.

He won the award by batting .337, hitting 7 home runs, knocking in 20 runs and scoring 17 times.

Clear September's Best Hurler in CL
Wednesday, October 1st, 2138: Quincy Clear had an outstanding September -- so good that the Continental League presented him with the Pitcher of the Month Award earlier today.

"There's no way to know where the Gothams would be without Clear," one fan is quoted as saying.

In September Clear dominated the competition, running up a 4-0 record, a 1.25 ERA and 39 strikeouts in 36 innings.

This year Clear has a 11-7 record and a 3.79 ERA.

Hammersmith Starter Named RL's Top Pitcher
Wednesday, October 1st, 2138: September was a magical month for Hao Ow-Yang of Hammersmith. He held the Republic League hitters spellbound, conjuring up a 4-1 mark and a 1.77 ERA.

Ow-Yang also chalked up 5 starts, 35.2 innings and 16 strikeouts.

For this outstanding performance he was rewarded with the Pitcher of the Month trophy.
