López Takes Best Bat Trophy in April
Sunday, May 1st, 2078: Seasoned by several years of professional experience, 27-year-old Eduardo López put together a solid offensive month for St Louis and was crowned April's top batter in the Continental League.

He batted .347 with 4 home runs, 20 RBIs and 22 runs scored.

Super Month Nets Ríos #1 Batter Prize in RL
Sunday, May 1st, 2078: Though his face is weathered and his hands are calloused, Raúl Ríos can still get it done in FOOL-X. In fact, the 36-year-old left fielder for Spring was named the Republic League Batter of the Month today after putting up an impressive performance at the plate.

In April he batted .398 with 2 home runs, 13 RBIs and 19 runs scored.

Havana Starter Selected Best Pitcher
Sunday, May 1st, 2078: In April, Miguel Angel Bojórquez tore through the Continental League like a seasoned veteran -- quite impressive for a player only 22 years old.

The young Havana starter posted a 4-1 mark and an ERA of 2.02 to earn the Pitcher of the Month award. In 35.2 innings he collected 23 strikeouts while limiting the opposition to a .233 average.

Maricopa Starter Wins April's Pitcher Award
Sunday, May 1st, 2078: Conrad Wiggins's been around the league long enough to appreciate the honor he received today. After going 4-0 in April, the 32-year-old Maricopa hurler has been named Republic League Pitcher of the Month.

He fanned 31 in 35 innings, logged an ERA of 1.29 and allowed opponents to hit .202 against him.

CL Selects Rookie Star of the Month
Sunday, May 1st, 2078: Héctor Díaz is still a bit shy, but then, who could blame the newest Continental League Rookie of the Month honoree? He hasn't been around the league long enough to fully know the ropes yet, despite the fact that he's putting up veteran-like numbers.

In April the Oshawa hitter tagged opposing pitching for a .325 average with 26 hits, 3 home runs and 6 RBIs.

Republic League Names Rookie of Month
Sunday, May 1st, 2078: Youngster Tom Young emerged as the latest Republic League Rookie of the Month today. The young man from Maricopa deserved the honor, batting .279 with no home runs and 5 RBI. Is the month of April a harbinger of things to come or just a fluke? We'll find out someday, but for now, we'll just let Young enjoy the limelight.

Rhéaume Snares CL Top Batter Award in May
Wednesday, June 1st, 2078: Today St Cloud's Jean-François Rhéaume was named the Continental League Batter of the Month for May. He punished CL hurlers hard all month long, collecting 33 hits in 102 at-bats.

With a .324 batting average, 8 home runs, 26 RBIs and 19 runs scored, he was an easy choice.

For the year Rhéaume is hitting .242 with 10 home runs. His stats include 34 RBI and 33 runs scored.

RL's Top Hitter Selected
Wednesday, June 1st, 2078: When guys like Las Vegas's Raphaël Brassard win Batter of the Month awards, it just makes you feel good. In a productive May, the longtime Republic League veteran toyed with opposing pitchers all month long, collecting 29 hits in 105 at-bats.

The veteran left fielder hit for a .276 batting average and collected 8 home runs, 37 RBIs and 22 runs scored.

Looking at his present stats, Brassard has compiled a .235 batting average in 53 games with a .381 on-base percentage, while hitting 11 home runs and driving in 46 runs.

Richter Earns CL Top Pitcher Trophy
Wednesday, June 1st, 2078: Larry Richter took a much-deserved turn in the spotlight earlier today as he accepted the Continental League Pitcher of the Month award for May.

The 21-year-old Mullets starter is a relative newcomer to the league, but nonetheless racked up an impressive 4-0 won-lost record in 5 starts. This month he fanned 28 batters in 32.1 innings and compiled a 1.67 ERA.

So far in 10 appearances this season, Richter has recorded 7 wins and sustained 2 losses. He has pitched 60.1 innings, yielded 52 hits, fanned 58 and has a 2.24 ERA.

RL Premier Pitcher is New York's Woods
Wednesday, June 1st, 2078: Whether Kevin Woods stays in New York beyond this season remains to be seen, but while he's here he's making the most of it. In May the 30-year-old certainly pulled out all the stops by winning the Republic League Pitcher of the Month award.

He put up some fancy numbers with a 5-1 record and and an ERA of 2.60. In 45 innings he struck out 35, surrendered 39 hits, 3 walks and proved to be a solid performer in 7 starts last month.

So far this year Woods has made 13 starts, tossed 77.2 innings, struck out 58 batters and walked 9. His record is 6-5 with a 3.59 ERA and he has limited opposing teams to a .265 batting average.

Stafford Rookie Star Sparkles
Wednesday, June 1st, 2078: Santiago García had a very good May and today was presented the Continental League Rookie of the Month trophy.

Last month the 26-year-old Stafford left fielder played in 28 games and hit .291 with 9 doubles, 3 triples and 3 home runs. García also scored 15 times and drove in 7 runs.

A look at his season totals shows García with 3 home runs, .303 BA, .343 OBP, 10 RBIs and 21 runs scored.

Mercado Honored by Republic League
Wednesday, June 1st, 2078: António Mercado earned May's Rookie of the Month honors in the Republic League for last month's performance. The boyish Cleveland left fielder might be wet behind the ears, but he's proving that he has what it takes to play at this level.

Mercado hit .331 with 3 home runs, 24 RBIs and 16 runs scored this past month on his way to winning the award.

This year Mercado is batting .265 with 57 hits, 4 home runs, 28 RBIs, 22 walks, .335 OBP and has scored 27 runs.

Bobby McCormick Named Best CL Batter in June
Friday, July 1st, 2078: One of the more consistent batters in June, London right fielder Bobby McCormick grabbed Continental League Batter of the Month honors by hitting .346 with 37 hits in 107 at-bats.

He racked up 5 home runs and 15 RBIs, scored 22 runs.

Looking at his stats this year, McCormick has compiled a .313 batting average, while hitting 12 home runs and driving in 40 runs. He has played in 81 games and scored 58 runs.

Ríos Wins RL's Best Bat Award
Friday, July 1st, 2078: There's nothing like putting up good, solid numbers in the last year of your contract. Today Raúl Ríos helped his contract negotiations by nabbing June's Republic League Batter of the Month honors.

The Spring left fielder put together a .346 batting average with 4 home runs, 20 RBIs and 13 runs scored.

Someone will surely be opening up the vault this offseason if Ríos continues at this brisk pace.

Ríos is hitting .364 so far this season with 43 RBIs and 52 runs scored. He has 111 hits including 7 home runs, 34 walks and .435 OBP.

Girard Is June's Top Starter
Friday, July 1st, 2078: Veteran Kevin Girard put together quite a successful stretch in June for the St Cloud Raindrops, earning himself the Continental League Pitcher of the Month award.

Girard racked up a 4-0 record in 5 starts, posting a 1.82 ERA over 34.2 innings and striking out 35.

So far this season Girard has a record of 11-3 with 88 strikeouts and 22 walks in 99 innings and a 3.00 ERA.

RL Honors June's #1 Pitcher
Friday, July 1st, 2078: An outstanding 3-0 record in June earned Nelson Chapman the Pitcher of the Month Award in the Republic League. When his name was penciled in to start on the Ann Arbor lineup card, it meant trouble for opposing teams.

In 41 innings of work, Chapman limited opposing batters to 19 base hits and a .142 batting average. He notched 24 strikeouts, issued 8 walks and had a 0.88 ERA.

In 18 starts this season Chapman has rung up a 8-4 record and a 2.66 ERA.

June's Best CL Rookie Named
Friday, July 1st, 2078: A veritable toddler to the Continental League, Mike Beazley just sewed up the Rookie of the Month trophy for June.

Over the past month the 24-year-old catcher for Stafford hit .288 with 30 hits, 6 home runs and 24 RBI. He also logged 6 walks and compiled a .333 on-base percentage.

On the year Beazley has hit .239 with 14 home runs, 47 RBIs and scored 34 runs.

Top RL Rookie of the Month Named
Friday, July 1st, 2078: António Mercado's eyes seem to light up whenever he sees the baseball. The young Cleveland left fielder has been hitting everything in sight for the better part of a month.

In June he was voted the Rookie of the Month Award.

During the month he hit .267 with 5 doubles, 1 triple and 4 home runs. Mercado also scored 15 times and drove in 14 runs.

This year Mercado has socked 88 hits in 331 at-bats for a .266 average with 8 home runs. He is getting on base at a .333 pace and his totals also include 42 RBIs and 42 runs

Washington's Silva Acclaimed Best CL Hitter
Monday, August 1st, 2078: Reynaldo Silva put his mark on the Continental League this July by putting together some award-winning numbers. Washington's left fielder took home the Batter of the Month award on the strength of his .333 batting average.

He tacked up 30 hits, 5 home runs, 22 RBIs and 24 runs scored.

Silva is batting .276 this year with 21 home runs, 72 RBIs and 63 runs scored. He has 113 hits in 409 at-bats.

López Wins Best Bat Trophy in July
Monday, August 1st, 2078: César López of the Wolverines hit .340 in July with 7 home runs, 27 RBIs and 18 runs scored to capture a majority of votes for the Republic League Batter of the Month trophy.

The 32-year-old is in the last year of his contract and will undoubtedly use these numbers to try and bring in a huge pay raise.

This year López is batting .289 with 17 home runs.

CL Selects Girard July's Best Starter
Monday, August 1st, 2078: Kevin Girard nailed down July's Continental League Pitcher of the Month award today, adding pressure on St Cloud to get a deal done before the 29-year-old becomes a free agent.

Girard seems unfazed by the talk. "We get a deal done or we don't," he told reporters, "I'm not worrying about next year. Worrying about next year isn't what wins awards, you know?"

He fashioned a 3-0 record, reeled off 30 strikeouts, worked 33.2 innings and held batters to a .214 average for the month as he posted a 1.60 ERA.

To date this season Girard is 14-3 with 21 starts and an ERA of 2.65 with 118 strikeouts in 132.2 innings.

Republic League Names #1 Pitcher in July
Monday, August 1st, 2078: Despite the number of years he's been in the league, Stephen Walker still gets excited when he puts together a quality stretch like he had in July. The 31-year-old starter for Cleveland was named Republic League Pitcher of the Month earlier today.

He collected 5 wins and 1 loss with 35 strikeouts in his 7 starts, putting up a fine 1.71 ERA in 47.1 innings of work.

This season Walker has compiled a 14-5 record with a 2.93 ERA in 27 starts.

Rookie Honored by Continental League
Monday, August 1st, 2078: Jean-Philippe Savoie was toddling around on his tricycle when some of the guys he's playing against were in their prime, but the 24-year-old center fielder definitely knows how to get to first, second or beyond. Today he was chosen July's Continental League Rookie of the Month for his remarkable month of hitting.

In 25 games Savoie batted .260 for Stafford, slapping 27 hits in 104 at-bats with 2 home runs, drove in 8 runs and scored 7 times.

Savoie is hitting .239 for the season with 5 home runs, 25 RBIs and 56 runs scored. He has 106 hits in 444 at-bats and played in 105 games.


July's Premier Rookie Named by RL
Monday, August 1st, 2078: May was an exceptional month, especially for rookie José Ortíz. The second baseman for the Portland Axemen performed like a veteran and was named the best newcomer in the Republic League.

He captured the honor by hitting .354 in 26 games with 34 hits, no home runs and 16 RBIs.

This year Ortíz has hit 1 home run and posted a .263 batting average.

Butler Takes Home CL Top Batter Award
Thursday, September 1st, 2078: Free agent-to-be Ron Butler has inflated his asking price over the past 30 days by winning the Continental League Batter of the Month.

In August, the 34-year-old Washington first baseman hit .324 with 8 home runs and 21 RBIs.

If he keeps putting numbers like that up, he could be hauling in a big wad of cash at this time next year.

This season in 133 games, Butler has hit at a .273 clip with 141 hits, 24 home runs, 93 RBIs and 71 runs scored.


Red-Hot August Lands White Batting Prize in RL
Thursday, September 1st, 2078: Prospective free agents love to have hot streaks and Austin White is no exception. The Maricopa left fielder capped off a fine month by hauling in Batter of the Month honors in the Republic League.

In August White hit .356 with 8 home runs, 24 RBIs and 21 runs scored.

This year White has hit at a .291 pace and produced 89 RBIs, 32 home runs and scored 83 runs.

CL's #1 Starter is Hubbard
Thursday, September 1st, 2078: Capping off a whirlwind month in which he went 5-1 with a 1.01 ERA, Ray Hubbard was selected as August's Continental League Pitcher of the Month today. Reporters caught up with the elated Washington starter as he left the clubhouse.

"I know it's difficult for pitchers -- when you have a bad start or two, people start wondering if you've lost it. Then you ride stretches like this one for all you can. You find it easier to come to the park every day because know you're contributing to the club, not just waiting for your turn in the rotation to make up for your last start."

Ray Hubbard definitely contributed to the club. He had 6 starts, throwing 35.2 innings, striking out 41, and holding the opposition to a .268 average.

So far this year Hubbard has compiled a 11-8 record with a 2.48 ERA.


RL Pitcher of the Month Goes to Babla
Thursday, September 1st, 2078: Maricopa starter Kaleab Babla claimed the Republic League Pitcher of the Month Award today with his strong performance in August.

The 33-year-old starter tossed 34 innings of solid baseball, putting up a 1.85 ERA, 21 strikeouts and a 4-0 record in 5 starts.

This season Babla has compiled a 11-6 record with a 3.41 ERA.

Last month García posted a .320 average with 33 hits, 3 home runs and 13 RBIs.

García is hitting .295 this season with 11 home runs, 47 RBIs and 59 runs scored. He has 142 hits in 481 at-bats.


August's Spotlight Falls on Rookie Star
Thursday, September 1st, 2078: The best Republic League rookie in August was Las Vegas's catcher Juan Saucedo.

He hit .270 with 27 hits, 7 home runs, 20 RBIs, and 14 runs scored. He also walked 10 times on his way to a .336 OBP.

So far this season, Saucedo has recorded a .211 batting average with 100 hits, 13 home runs, 58 RBIs, 46 runs scored and a .269 OBP.
