2015 Season Tournament Wrap-Up

2015 Alaska Invitational

Hawaii started things off by beating (3) California 96-87 in the First Round, then beat (2) Temple 70-62 in the Semifinals, and fell just short against (1) Cincinnati, losing 73-72 in the Championship. Still a nice run for the Warriors.

2015 Anaheim Invitational

Penn State lost 67-64 to (5) Valparaiso in the First Round, then beat (1) Nebraska 90-81 in the Consolation Round, and won the 5th place game 71-48 over (6) Rutgers.

2015 Island Invitational

Davidson beat (7) Portland State 101-93 in overtime in the First Round, then hammered (3) Providence 86-63 in the Semifinals, and got by (1) Washington 58-57 in the Championship to become the first FOFC team to win a 2015 season tournament.

2015 Las Vegas Challenge

Boston College hammered (7) Akron 111-70 in the First Round, then dropped a tough one 76-74 to (3) UNLV in the Semifinals, but rallied to take 3rd place by beating a very surprising (8) Mercer 75-55.

Iowa opened up by pounding (5) St. Johns 71-48 in the First Round, then beat (8) Mercer 79-67 in the Semifinals, and ran all over (3) UNLV 86-58 in the Championship, making it FOFC team #2 to win a season tournament.

2015 Las Vegas Shootout

Louisville was absolutely shocked by (16) Northwestern State 84-82 in overtime in the First Round, ending their tournament run way earlier than anticipated.

Charlotte beat (13) Drake 67-57 in the First Round, then escaped with a win over (12) Western Michigan 61-59 in the Quarterfinals, then lost to (16) Northwestern State 83-76 in the Semifinals. Unbelievable, the 16th seed took out both our FOFC coached teams in this tournament. If you're wondering, they lost in the championship game to Boise State.

2015 Orlando Classic

Evansville battled, but lost 71-68 to (2) Seton Hall in the First Round, then lost 68-61 in overtime to (3) Manhattan in the Consolation Round, and recovered to beat (1) Minnesota 74-66 in the 7th place game. Another crazy tournament in which the top seed didn't win a game. Unbelievable!

2015 Paradise Shootout

UTEP beat (3) Utah State 66-61 in the First Round, then lost 67-56 to (2) Notre Dame in the Semifinals, but recovered to beat (4) Nevada 70-66 in the 3rd place game.

UCLA rolled over (8) Marshall 80-42 in the First Round, then handled (4) Purdue 69-55 in the Semifinals, and became our 3rd FOFC coached team to win a season tournament by defeating (2) BYU 74-64 in the Championship. This tournament actually held true to form, with the top 2 seeds playing for the title, seeds 3 and 4 playing for 3rd, and so on.

2015 Top of the Globe Invitational

Wright State lost to (5) Oregon State 69-62 in the First Round, then beat (8) James Madison 91-85 in the Consolation Round, and won the 5th place game over (3) Kansas State 69-61.

Oregon State beat (4) Wright State 69-62 in the First Round, then lost 66-55 to (1) Kent State in the Semifinals, then recovered to beat (6) Pacific 84-67 in the 3rd place game.

Overall not a bad showing for our FOFC teams. Every team that played in a standard 8 team tournament won at least 1 game. I think Louisville was the only team not to win a season tournament game, but that's only because their tournament was single elimination. But Kuji, come on man, what were you doing in that game?

Here's a look at how our teams have fared through December 28, 2015.

Hartford (David Ginsberg) -- 8-4, 0-0 America East. The Hawks have won their last 6, including a nice win against Siena. They've had some good losses as well, losing to UMass, St. Louis, Harvard, and Fordham.

Maine (Cillian O'Reilly) -- 5-7, 0-1 America East. It's been rough for the Black Bears so far, including a 4 team losing streak in which they lost all 4 on the road. Their best win so far, believe it or not, is a 79-70 win at Cal Poly. They did lose their first conference game to Binghamton though.

Charlotte (Timmy Tribble) -- 4-7, 0-0 Atlantic 10. The 49ers started the season by losing their first 5, but against some great completion in Ohio St., Houston, and UConn. They've also lost to Davidson, and their tournament win over Drake is their best win to date.

Boston College (Alex Donovan) -- 9-1, 0-0 ACC. The Eagles' only setback so far was against UNLV, but don't let that 9-1 record fool you. Other than St. Johns, UNLV, and Providence, the Eagles haven't exactly played top notch competition. Also, congrats to Alex Donovan for picking up his 100th career win in his last game against Providence.

Colorado (Rob Nielsen) -- 5-5, 0-0 Big 12. The Buffaloes had a 4 game losing streak against decent competition (at Creighton, at Weber State, at Oral Roberts, at Marquette) and also lost a close game at Utah. They hammered Wyoming and Air Force though, and still a few grueling non-conference road games before they jump into B12 play.

Louisville (Kuji Chagulia) -- 6-3, 0-0 Big East. Maybe the voters knew something about this team that we didn't, as not only did they lose to Northwestern State, they also lost to Fairfield, both terrible losses. The 5 point loss at Xavier isn't bad, but the Cardinals could be in some trouble come Big East play.

High Point (Roy Rogers) -- 5-7, 2-0 Big South. The Panthers also started the season on a 5 game losing streak, but have since recovered to win 5 of their last 7, including opening the conference with 2 wins, at Liberty and at VMI. They also have a nice win at Davidson and at Penn.

Iowa (Ernesto Lopez) -- 8-3, 1-0 Big 10. Nice start so far for the Hawkeyes, who won their season tournament, who have also beaten Alabama and Missouri, and won their conference opener against Wisconsin. Their 3 losses: at Kansas, at Florida, and at Texas, and those 3 teams have a combined 31-4 record so far.

Penn State (Tim Sheppard) -- 6-6, 0-0 Big 10. The Nittany Lions have had some tough losses this season, including a 44 point blowout loss against West Virginia, and an upset loss at Eastern Michigan. However, they have a huge win on their schedule, as they won 79-78 at Villanova who is a top 5 team.

Cal Poly (DeShawn St. John) -- 5-6, 0-0 Big West. The Mustangs started the season on a 3 game losing streak, but got a nice win against Wright State, another nice win at Cal, and their last 3 wins have been at Santa Clara, at Loyola Marymount, and at Fresno State. Let's hope they can keep it going.

UTEP (Jeeber Mack) -- 9-3, 0-0 Conference USA. The Miners have lost home games to San Diego and Air Force, but have good wins against Wyoming and TCU, as well as beating Utah State and Nevada. It still looks like an up and down team, but they are definitely improved from last season.

Wright State (Shane Korme) -- 5-7, 1-1 Horizon. The Raiders have had some key losses at Minnesota, Missouri, and Alabama, but won their conference opener at Valpo before losing at Butler. They also hammered Virginia Tech in a good win.

Central Michigan (Cannon Pace) -- 3-7, 0-0 MAC. The Chippewas opened the season taking on top 20 teams Vanderbilt and USC, losing to both. They have beaten Maine however, as well as Oakland and Youngstown State.

Evansville (Ekeje Bafou) -- 6-6, 0-1 MVC. The Aces have a couple nice wins at Xavier and at St. Louis, but a bad loss to Tennessee Tech. They've also lost to Louisville and Kansas, and beaten Nebraska. They lost their conference opener to Missouri State.

Bryant (Score Galore) -- 1-10, 0-0 Northeast. The Bulldogs have not had an easy time of it thus far, as they got their lone win over Duquesne. They've lost to teams such as Syracuse, San Diego State, Notre Dame, and St. Josephs.

Monmouth (Thomas Carrano) -- 4-7, 0-0 Northeast. The Hawks are currently on a 3 game losing streak, losing at Fordham, Penn St., and St. Johns. Their best win is at Citadel, and they've also beaten Radford, Princeton, and Tennessee State.

UCLA (Patrick Hutt) -- 10-1, 0-0 Pac 10. The Bruins' only loss is at Nebraska, and it was only a 2 point loss. They've also beaten Notre Dame and San Diego, and have played a few patsies.

Davidson (Randolph Childress) -- 5-7, 0-0 Southern. Randolph got his 100th career win earlier in the season, and really toughened up the schedule this season. Some of the losses have been to Notre Dame, Tennessee, Wake Forest, North Carolina, and Pittsburgh. They've played the tough schedule, but were hoping to come up with a few wins out of that.

Hawaii (B.B. Gunn) -- 8-2, 0-0 WAC. The Warriors are off to a great start, as they've only lost to Cincinnati and Bowling Green, but they've beaten a good New Mexico team, as well as Cal and Temple. Their schedule hasn't been really tough, but they've had a few tough ones.

Oregon State (Jawouk Bafou) -- 9-2, 0-0 WAC. The Beavers are off to a nice start, as they've had 2 separate 4 game winning streaks so far, including a rivalry win at Oregon. The losses were to Kent State and Montana, and they've got a few more cupcakes on the schedule before WAC play.

Hartford (David Ginsberg) -- 10-5, 1-1 America East. 3 games this week for the Hawks, all at home. First a non-conference win 62-59 over Delaware St., then back to conference play with an 82-69 loss to Albany, and finally a 65-58 win over Binghamton.

Charlotte (Timmy Tribble) -- 4-9, 0-0 Atlantic 10. 2 solid efforts against SEC teams this week for the 49ers, although both were losses. First a home 68-59 loss to a top 10 Tennessee, then a 74-67 loss at South Carolina.

Boston College (Alex Donovan) -- 12-1, 0-0 ACC. The Eagles had 3 games this week, all wins. First a 117-73 win at Duquesne, then an 83-67 win at Harvard, then they returned home to beat Rhode Island 88-60.

How crazy is it to see Oregon State receiving votes in the coaches poll? Are the Beavers for real or will they come back down to earth during WAC play?

I'm thinking about changing this dynasty format a little bit to copy the one I'm using in the Interactive Player/Recruit Dynasty, where I list all the games per week and then do a small recap per team. Basically what I'm doing here, just a little different format. What do you guys think? Should I keep things different here, or make them the same as the Interactive Recruit/Player Dynasty? I think doing it the other way would save me just a little bit of typing, but I would have to do a better job keeping track of the teams that are ranked. What say you?

I'm going to try this format with the coaches dynasty, it's the same format I use with the recruit/player dynasty. First, let me talk about feature games. Anytime we have 2 FOFC coaches playing against each other, it will be a feature game. Conference play will see a fair share of those, and we have 2 this week. We'll start in the America East.

1/6/16- Hartford (David Ginsberg) @ Maine (Cillian O'Reilly) -- This one was close at halftime, as Maine led by 3, but the Black Bears really turned it on in the second half to pull away.

Final Score: Maine- 84, Hartford- 70

Our other feature game is in the Northeast.

1/9/16- Bryant (Score Galore) @ Monmouth (Thomas Carrano) -- This one was an instant classic, that is if you like offense. Both teams shot over 45% from the field, but there were also 37 turnovers combined. What would you expect from 2 of the bottom teams in the conference. In the end, Bryant had a little too much.

Final Score: Bryant- 91, Monmouth- 86

Other Games

Hartford (David Ginsberg) -- 10-7, 1-3 America East.

1/6/16 at Maine- feature game, highlighted above.
1/10/16 at Boston University (L 62-48)

Not a good week for the Hawks, who lose both and have lost 3 of 4 after a 7 game winning streak.

Maine (Cillian O'Reilly) -- 7-9, 2-2 America East.

1/6/16 vs. Hartford- feature game, highlighted above.
1/10/16 at UMBC (W 74-65)

A good week for the Black Bears, who break a 3 game losing streak.

Charlotte (Timmy Tribble) -- 5-9, 0-0 Atlantic 10.

1/9/16 vs. Savannah St. (W 82-55)

Nothing like playing a severely overmatched team in the only game of the week, a feel good win leading into A-10 play.

#7 Boston College (Alex Donovan) -- 13-1, 0-0 ACC.

1/5/16 at Brown (W 58-57)

This would have been an embarrassing loss for the Eagles in their only game of the week.

Colorado (Rob Nielsen) -- 8-6, 1-0 Big 12.

1/5/16 vs. New Mexico St. (W 77-59)
1/9/16 at Kansas St. (W 70-62)

Good week for the Buffaloes, as they open conference play with a solid road victory.

Louisville (Kuji Chagulia) -- 7-5, 1-1 Big East.

1/6/16 at #18 UConn (L 78-62)
1/9/16 at West Virginia (W 56-49)

What is going on with the Cardinals? They just aren't getting it done this season, especially against top 20 teams.

High Point (Roy Rogers) -- 7-9, 3-2 Big South.

1/7/16 vs. Presbyterian (L 71-65)
1/9/16 vs. Florida Gulf Coast (W 68-57)

Losing to Presbyterian is the last thing the Panthers wanted, but at least they follow it up with a win over dunk city.

Iowa (Ernesto Lopez) -- 10-5, 3-2 Big 10.

1/6/16 at #13 Ohio St. (L 65-57)
1/9/16 at Michigan St. (L 77-61)

A bad week for the Hawkeyes who lose ground, but they faced 2 of their toughest conference opponents this week.

Penn State (Tim Sheppard) -- 9-6, 3-0 Big 10.

1/6/16 at Illinois (W 92-58)
1/6/16 vs. Indiana (W 58-48)

2 solid wins for the Nittany Lions, although neither Illinois or Indiana are the powerhouses they used to be. Still a couple much needed victories.

Cal Poly (DeShawn St. John) -- 8-7, 1-1 Big West.

1/5/16 vs. Long Beach St. (W 49-42)
1/7/16 at Pacific (L 76-75)

Just 2 points away from the Mustangs starting 2-0 in conference play. Look out, they could compete this season.

UTEP (Jeeber Mack) -- 10-4, 0-0 Conference USA.

1/5/16 at Texas Tech (W 61-60)

Solid road victory against a middle of the pack P5 team. The Miners will take it.

Wright State (Shane Korme) -- 8-8, 3-2 Horizon.

1/4/16 vs. Illinois-Chicago (W 70-67)
1/6/16 vs. Loyola-IL (W 93-77)

The Raiders sweep through the part of the schedule where teams from Illinois visit, as they get a couple solid wins.

Central Michigan (Cannon Pace) -- 4-10, 0-1 MAC.

1/4/16 at Milwaukee (L 63-55)
1/6/16 vs. Toledo (L 93-84)

The Chippewas have now lost 3 in a row after 2 single digit losses this week. Hopefully they can get it turned around because there doesn't appear to be a dominant team in the MAC.

Evansville (Ekeje Bafou) -- 7-9, 1-4 MVC.

1/7/16 at Indiana St. (L 63-58)
1/9/16 at Drake (L 66-52)

2 road losses for the Aces, who played tough at Indiana St., but not so at Drake.

Bryant (Score Galore) -- 4-11, 3-1 Northeast.

1/6/16 vs. Wagner (L 76-70)
1/9/16 at Monmouth- feature game, highlighted above.

Interesting to see when teams lose at home yet win on the road. The Bulldogs kind of bucked the trend this week.

Monmouth (Thomas Carrano) -- 5-10, 1-3 Northeast.

1/6/16 at #19 Sacred Heart (L 98-90)
1/6/16 vs. Bryant- feature game, highlighted above.

The Hawks ran into a buzzsaw in Sacred Heart this week, as they are crushing everybody right now. Still, the loss to Bryant hurts.

#5 UCLA (Patrick Hutt) -- 14-1, 3-0 Pac 10.

1/7/16 vs. Stanford (W 81-74)
1/9/16 vs. Cal (W 60-34)

Good week for the Bruins who are hitting their stride, but they've got a test next week.

Davidson (Randolph Childress) -- 6-10, 1-3 Southern.

1/6/16 vs. Citadel (L 69-59)
1/9/16 at Samford (W 81-72)

The Wildcats broke a 7 game losing streak with the win at Samford. This is not what Coach Childress expected coming into the season. Hopefully the win will spark something, because there is nothing tough about the Southern Conference at all.

Hawaii (B.B. Gunn) -- 9-5, 0-2 WAC.

1/4/16 vs. San Jose St. (L 68-57)
1/6/16 at New Mexico St. (L 81-73)

The loss to San Jose St. doesn't sting as much, as they have only lost twice, but losing at New Mexico St. smarts a bit. 2 weeks that the Warriors need to sweep before they really get into some tough games.

Oregon State (Jawouk Bafou) -- 13-2, 1-0 Pac 12.

1/4/16 vs. Gonzaga (W 78-70)
1/7/16 at American (W 79-76)

The elder Bafou has definitely lit a spark under his Beavers, who have now won 8 in a row and are playing great basketball right now.

1 feature game to talk about this week, and it's a Big 10 game.

1/13/16- Iowa (Ernesto Lopez) @ Penn State (Tim Sheppard) -- This game was not an offensive display by any means, as Iowa shot 32.6% and committed 23 turnovers, while Penn State shot 35% and committed 14 turnovers. The Nittany Lions led by 9 at halftime and held on late.

Final Score: Penn State- 59, Iowa- 55

Other Games

Hartford (David Ginsberg) -- 12-7, 3-3 America East.

1/13/16 vs. New Hampshire (W 71-70)
1/17/16 vs. UMBC (W 67-58)

Good week for the Hawks who get a couple at home, but against 2 of the weaker teams in the conference.

Maine (Cillian O'Reilly) -- 9-9, 4-2 America East.

1/13/16 vs. Vermont (W 97-79)
1/17/16 vs. New Hampshire (W 87-67)

The Black Bears got a rivalry win over Vermont, always a good win. Our America East coaches go 4-0 this week, hooray!

Charlotte (Timmy Tribble) -- 5-11, 0-2 Atlantic 10.

1/13/16 at LaSalle (L 69-51)
1/16/16 vs. St. Bonaventure (L 75-53)

Yikes! Not a great week for the 49ers, and coach Tribble is really struggling to find his groove at Charlotte.

#8 Boston College (Alex Donovan) -- 15-1, 2-0 ACC.

1/13/16 vs. #5 North Carolina (W 76-69)
1/16/16 at N.C. State (W 96-52)

Despite the weird scheduling (usually when ACC teams have a week against both UNC or N.C. State, both games are either on the road, or at home, not a split), the Eagles got a huge win against UNC and have won 14 in a row.

Colorado (Rob Nielsen) -- 9-7, 2-1 Big 12.

1/13/16 vs. Baylor (W 80-72)
1/16/16 at #10 Kansas (L 100-55)

Well, the Buffaloes clearly have some work to do if they are going to get to the top of the Big 12, as the game in Lawrence showed. 4 game winning streak ends with a whimper.

Louisville (Kuji Chagulia) -- 8-6, 2-2 Big East.

1/13/16 at #12 Notre Dame (L 65-62)
1/16/16 at Rutgers (W 76-60)

The Cardinals really needed that game in South Bend, but fell short, and Louisville is still looking for that marquee win this season.

High Point (Roy Rogers) -- 7-11, 3-4 Big South.

1/14/16 at Gardner Webb (L 69-63)
1/16/16 at UNC Asheville (L 82-49)

Things are going so well for the Panthers right now, as they've lost 4 of their last 5 after winning their first 2 conference games of the season.

Iowa (Ernesto Lopez) -- 11-6, 4-3 Big 10.

1/13/16 at Penn State- feature game, highlighted above.
1/16/16 vs. Michigan (W 96-89)

The Hawkeyes continue to play .500 ball in conference, but they do break their 3 game losing streak with that win over Michigan.

Penn State (Tim Sheppard) -- 10-7, 4-1 Big 10.

1/13/16 vs. Iowa- feature game, highlighted above.
1/16/16 at Purdue (L 89-66)

Nice for the Nittany Lions to win their first 4 conference games, but they got a wake-up call at Purdue, with 2 tough games coming up next week.

Cal Poly (DeShawn St. John) -- 8-9, 1-3 Big West.

1/12/16 vs. Cal St. Northridge (L 71-63)
1/14/16 at Cal St. Fullerton (73-54)

Now the Mustangs are starting to come down to earth after that impressive 6 game winning streak, as they've lost 3 in a row, but have a couple chances to get back on the winning path next week.

UTEP (Jeeber Mack) -- 12-4, 2-0 Conference USA.

1/13/16 vs. ECU (W 47-36)
1/16/16 vs. UAB (W 80-56)

Nice to see the Miners getting it going again, but geez, what a sleeper of a game against ECU. I know high school teams that score more points than that. Come on Coach Mack, pick up the O! Well they did against UAB, and in a big way.

Wright State (Shane Korme) -- 9-9, 4-3 Horizon.

1/14/16 at Youngstown St. (W 64-58)
1/16/16 at Cleveland St. (L 84-70)

The Raiders see their 3 game winning streak end at Cleveland St., and now they must try to start a new streak next week. Although it's still early in conference play, just to show you how balanced things are right now, there is a 6 way tie for 1st place in the Horizon standings currently, with 6 teams at 4-3. Wow! Hopefully that spreads itself out.

Central Michigan (Cannon Pace) -- 4-12, 0-3 MAC.

1/13/16 at Bowling Green (L 84-67)
1/16/16 vs. Western Michigan (L 77-70)

It isn't pretty for Coach Pace and the Chippewas right now, as they have lost 5 in a row, and seem to have forgotten how to play defense.

Evansville (Ekeje Bafou) -- 7-11, 1-6 MVC.

1/14/16 vs. Northern Iowa (L 73-61)
1/16/16 vs. Creighton (L 75-68)

The Aces are so close, yet so far, as they continue to find new ways to lose games. What's even more disturbing is that they actually led both of these games at halftime.

Bryant (Score Galore) -- 5-12, 4-12 Northeast.

1/13/16 vs. Robert Morris (W 80-71)
1/16/16 at Central Conn. St. (L 74-72)

The Bulldogs are another team that are so close, yet so far. They lost their first 9 games of the season but are playing much, much better basketball, and quite frankly should have won that game at Central Conn. if not for a couple late turnovers.

Monmouth (Thomas Carrano) -- 7-10, 3-3 Northeast.

1/13/16 vs. St. Francis-NY (W 61-54)
1/16/16 vs. Robert Morris (W 87-72)

A couple much needed wins for the Hawks this week, and hopefully this will be the beginning of a nice winning streak.

#5 UCLA (Patrick Hutt) -- 15-2, 4-1 Pac 10.

1/14/16 at #13 Arizona (L 94-64)
1/16/16 at Arizona State (W 82-62)

Well, the Bruins, while much improved, lost their first big conference test of the season, by 30 at Arizona. A good recovery, but they've got to take advantage of those big games.

Davidson (Randolph Childress) -- 8-10, 3-3 Southern.

1/13/16 at Wofford (W 77-68)
1/16/16 vs. Western Carolina (W 78-70)

The Wildcats have won 3 games in a row, and are still looking to find their groove. Some of those early season non-conference tests seem to be starting to benefit the team.

Hawaii (B.B. Gunn) -- 9-7, 0-4 WAC.

1/14/16 vs. Louisiana Tech (L 89-78)
1/16/16 at Fresno State (L 86-61)

Well, any hope the Warriors had of having a dream season seems to be going out the window. That's 4 in a row lost now, and the schedule doesn't get any easier. Time for coach Gunn to mix things up.

#24 Oregon State (Jawouk Bafou) -- 14-3, 2-1 Pac 10.

1/14/16 at San Jose State (L 58-50)
1/16/16 vs. Boise State (W 73-58)

The Beavers suffer their 3rd loss of the season, but they do so against a team that's only lost twice, so nothing to be ashamed of there. The elder Bafou still has his team playing great basketball.

Was hoping UTEP would get a few votes in the coaches poll, but no such luck. UCLA drops a few spots, BC continues to rise, and Oregon St. falls out, but they are still having a heck of a season. Sure is odd not to see Louisville in these polls somewhere.

No respect for UTEP, who only moves up 1 spot in the mid-major poll, while Oregon St. drops 2 spots. Gotta get some more of our mid-major teams going here.

No feature games this week, so let's get right to it.

Hartford (David Ginsberg) -- 12-9, 3-5 America East.

1/22/16 at Vermont (L 82-66)
1/24/16 at Albany (L 64-52)

Kinda thought it might go this way for the Hawks, who faced the top 2 teams in the conference this week.

Maine (Cillian O'Reilly) -- 9-11, 4-4 America East.

1/20/16 at Albany (L 91-64)
1/24/16 vs. Stony Brook (L 58-47)

A complete reversal of last week. Last week, the America East FOFC coaches won all their games. This week, they lost them all.

Charlotte (Timmy Tribble) -- 6-12, 1-3 Atlantic 10.

1/20/16 vs. St. Louis (L 87-83)
1/23/16 vs. #11 St. Joseph's (W 66-60)

What might have been for the 49ers, who ended the week by upsetting St. Joe's. They were close to sweeping the week, but couldn't hold on against the Lou.

#6 Boston College (Alex Donovan) -- 17-1, 4-0 ACC.

1/20/16 vs. Florida St. (W 85-54)
1/23/16 at Maryland (W 89-69)

Total destruction this week for the Eagles, who completely dominated both their opponents and continue to roll.

Colorado (Rob Nielsen) -- 10-8, 3-2 Big 12.

1/18/16 vs. #15 Oklahoma St. (L 69-62)
1/23/16 vs. Texas Tech (W 66-63)

A much better effort against a ranked opponent this week for the Buffaloes. At least they stayed in the same building.

Louisville (Kuji Chagulia) -- 9-7, 3-3 Big East.

1/20/16 vs. #5 Pittsburgh (L 83-78, OT)
1/23/16 vs. Cincinnati (W 60-53)

The Cardinals are still looking for that quality win against a ranked opponent this season, and almost got it, taking Pitt to overtime.

High Point (Roy Rogers) -- 9-11, 5-4 Big South.

1/21/16 vs. Charleston Southern (W 61-60)
1/23/16 vs. Coastal Carolina (W 70-61)

The Panthers needed a good week after last week, and they got it, but it took a buzzer beater to beat Charleston Southern.

Iowa (Ernesto Lopez) -- 13-6, 6-3 Big 10.

1/20/16 at Minnesota (W 67-54)
1/23/16 vs. #12 Ohio St. (W 96-88)

Big, big win for the Hawkeyes over Ohio St. That win alone may decide their fate if they are on the bubble.

Penn State (Tim Sheppard) -- 11-8, 5-2 Big 10.

1/20/16 at Michigan St. (W 78-66)
1/23/16 vs. Wisconsin (L 85-61)

Whoops! Somebody should tell coach Sheppard that the Nittany Lions didn't follow him out of the locker room against Wisconsin. They trailed by 19 at the half. At least they got a good road win.

Cal Poly (DeShawn St. John) -- 9-9, 2-3 Big West.

1/21/16 vs. UC Davis (W 76-72)

Short week for the Mustangs, who broke a 3 game losing streak with the win, and have a very good chance to start a nice winning streak. Also, the 9 wins are the most that Cal Poly has had in a season since I started this dynasty. What's even more impressive is that their record was the same the first 3 seasons: 7-23.

UTEP (Jeeber Mack) -- 13-5, 3-1 Conference USA.

1/20/16 vs. Marshall (W 78-62)
1/23/16 at Southern Miss (L 74-66)

It won't take long for the Miners to try and avenge their first conference loss. In one of those weird scheduling quirks, they'll play again next week.

Wright State (Shane Korme) -- 10-10, 5-4 Horizon.

1/21/16 vs. Milwaukee (W 84-63)
1/23/16 vs. Green Bay (L 60-58)

A heartbreaking loss to Green Bay, a game that the Raiders fought to get back into after being down 6 at halftime.

Central Michigan (Cannon Pace) -- 5-12, 1-3 MAC.

1/20/16 at Ohio (W 79-68)

The short week might have been good for the Chippewas, who get extra time to prepare for next week. They need to turn the corner now, because they are way off pace of previous seasons.

Evansville (Ekeje Bafou) -- 9-11, 3-6 MVC.

1/21/16 at Bradley (W 83-61)
1/23/16 at Wichita St. (W 54-52)

When's the last time the Aces swept their opponents during a week, let alone both on the road. Hopefully this is the start of something good.

Bryant (Score Galore) -- 7-12, 6-2 Northeast.

1/20/16 at Wagner (W 86-79)
1/23/16 vs. St. Francis-NY (W 80-63)

Nice week for the Bulldogs, who are sitting pretty in the Northeast right now, and staying hot.

Monmouth (Thomas Carrano) -- 7-12, 3-5 Northeast.

1/20/16 at Central Connecticut St. (L 56-53)
1/23/16 vs. Long Island (L 78-72, OT)

A couple heartbreaking losses for the Hawks this week. They led Cent. Conn. St. at halftime but failed to hold it, and they rallied from a 16 point halftime deficit to force overtime against Long Island, but ran out of steam.

#8 UCLA (Patrick Hutt) -- 17-2, 6-1 Pac 10.

1/21/16 vs. Washington St. (W 56-34)
1/23/16 vs. Washington (W 57-34)

If you want consistency, you had it this week with the Bruins. Only a lone free throw kept the scores of both wins from being exactly the same. Nice job coach Hutt!

Davidson (Randolph Childress) -- 9-11, 4-4 Southern.

1/20/16 at Chattanooga (L 85-68)
1/23/16 vs. Florida Atlantic (W 63-53)

Looks like the Wildcats still have some work to do, as they fell short big time at Chattanooga, and struggled to win against a 3 win Fla Atlantic team.

Hawaii (B.B. Gunn) 9-9, 0-5 WAC.

1/20/16 at Akron (L 91-75)
1/23/16 vs. Gonzaga (L 77-75)

Everything is going wrong for the Warriors right now, as the losing streak is 6. They were so close to knocking off the Zags though.

Oregon State (Jawouk Bafou) -- 14-5, 2-3 WAC.

1/18/16 vs. Louisiana Tech (L 76-70)
1/23/16 at Fresno St. (L 75-64)

Not a good week for the Beavers, who lost all momentum and have lost 3 of their last 4. On a bright note, Oregon St. is another team that has broken their highest win total in this dynasty, and they look like they've got a few more in them.

I'm not sure how BC dismantles 2 opponents last week, 1 of who is in the coaches top 25 this week, yet drops a spot? I'm not surprised to see Oregon St. lose all their votes though. That was expected.

A nice drop in the mid-major polls for Oregon St., no surprise there, while UTEP, even after losing a game this week, rises 3 spots. Weird polls.

1 feature game to tell you about this week, in the America East.

1/31/16- Maine (Cillian O'Reilly) @ Hartford (David Ginsberg) -- Despite committing 13 turnovers, the Hawks led by 12 at halftime, but Maine made a furious rally in the second half, and it came down to a buzzer beater, but the comeback was complete.

Final Score: Maine- 71, Hartford- 70

Hartford (David Ginsberg) -- 13-10, 4-6 7th America East.

1/27/16 vs. Stony Brook (W 70-63, OT)
1/31/16 at Maine- feature game, highlighted above.

Almost a perfect week for the Hawks, but they let that one slip away at Maine.

Maine (Cillian O'Reilly) -- 11-11, 6-4 T-2nd America East.

1/27/16 at Boston University (W 84-77)
1/31/16 at Hartford- feature game, highlighted above

The Black Bears get a couple big wins this week to stay in the hunt for second place.

Charlotte (Timmy Tribble) -- 7-13, 2-4 T-10th Atlantic 10.

1/27/16 vs. Fordham (L 57-46)
1/30/16 at Richmond (W 70-53)

What would be great is if the 49ers can carry some of that momentum into the rest of the season, because Richmond is a pretty strong team and Charlotte dismantled them.

#7 Boston College (Alex Donovan) -- 19-1, 6-0 1st ACC.

1/27/16 vs. Clemson (W 98-80)
1/30/16 at Georgia Tech (W 67-52)

Another easy week for the Eagles, as the winning streak continues to grow. They should get a couple road tests next week though.

Colorado (Rob Nielsen) -- 10-10, 3-4 T-7th Big 12.

1/27/16 at #4 Texas (L 81-59)
1/30/16 vs. Iowa St. (L 84-82)

Ouch! The Buffaloes have a major decline this week, getting blown out by another top 25 team. Gotta compete better, and also lost to Iowa St.

Louisville (Kuji Chagulia) -- 11-7, 5-3 T-5th Big East.

1/27/16 at DePaul (W 71-61)
1/30/16 vs. Seton Hall (W 67-56)

Don't look now, but the Cardinals are on a 3 game winning streak. That could all change next week when 2 teams with a combined 4 losses come to town.

High Point (Roy Rogers) -- 9-12, 5-5 6th Big South.

1/30/16 at Radford (L 68-65)

Those single game weeks are really important for teams to get a win, and the Panthers didn't get the job done. At least it was respectable, but the games against even competition or the must wins.

Iowa (Ernesto Lopez) -- 13-7, 6-3 T-3rd Big 10.

1/28/16 vs. SIU Edwardsville (L 65-56)

Ugh! Talk about a momentum killer. A home game against a 5 win team, gotta have it. Brutal loss, but fortunately it was a non-conference loss, so hopefully the Hawkeyes can refocus when they get back to conference play.

Penn State (Tim Sheppard) -- 12-8, 6-2 T-2nd Big 10.

1/27/16 vs. Northwestern (W 62-58)

Exactly what the doctor order for the Nittany Lions. An easy game against a conference cellar dweller, but it was anything but easy. Penn St. got the win though in their lone game of the week.

Cal Poly (DeShawn St. John) -- 10-10, 3-4 6th Big West.

1/28/16 vs. UC Santa Barbara (L 74-57)
1/30/16 at UC Irvine (W 76-66)

The Mustangs will take the split, especially since it means they've won 2 of their last 3, but they'll look back on that 17 point home loss and make some adjustments.

UTEP (Jeeber Mack) -- 15-5, 5-1 T-2nd Conference USA.

1/27/16 vs. Southern Miss (W 83-63)
1/30/16 vs. Houston (W 84-47)

Great week for the Miners who avenge their loss to Southern Miss, then absolutely hammer Houston.

Wright State (Shane Korme) -- 10-12, 5-5 5th Horizon.

1/25/16 at Longwood (L 67-57)
1/30/16 vs. Detroit (L 75-68)

What is it with our FOFC teams losing to really bad non-conference opponents? The Raiders lay an egg at Longwood, then return to conference play and lose to Detroit. That's 3 losses in a row.

Central Michigan (Cannon Pace) -- 5-14, 1-5 6th (last) in West Division of MAC.

1/27/16 vs. Buffalo (L 94-69)
1/30/16 at Northern Illinois (L 80-69)

This just is not a very good Chippewas team, losing to 25 at home against a team that is no better than them. At least they kept it respectable at Northern Illinois.

Evansville (Ekeje Bafou) -- 11-11, 5-6 7th MVC.

1/28/16 at Illinois St. (W 67-64)
1/30/16 at Southern Illinois (W 89-70)

The aces have now won 4 in a row, all on the road, including taking down Wichita St. and Southern Illinois. Is this the start of something? Or just a fluke? Hopefully the younger Bafou has decided to wake up and get serious about his team.

Bryant (Score Galore) -- 8-13, 7-3 T-2nd Northeast.

1/27/16 vs. St. Francis-PA (W 89-63)
1/30/16 vs. Sacred Heart (L 92-90)

The loss to Sacred Heart is not a bad loss at all for the Bulldogs, as Bryant beat them earlier in the season. Not to mention Sacred Heart has only lost 4 games all season. Folks, don't let the record fool you, this is a much improved Bulldog team.

Monmouth (Thomas Carrano) -- 7-14, 3-7 T-9th Northeast.

1/27/16 vs. Mt. St. Marys (L 69-61)
1/30/16 vs. Wagner (L 99-74)

No clue what is going on with the Hawks this season, they have been hugely disappointing. Now they've lost 4 in a row again.

#8 UCLA (Patrick Hutt) -- 19-2, 8-1 1st Pac 10.

1/28/16 at Oregon (W 65-45)
1/30/16 at Utah St. (W 58-52)

The Bruins continue to shine, winners of 5 in a row now. Utah St. was a test, they trailed that game at halftime.

Davidson (Randolph Childress) -- 10-12, 5-5 4th in South Division of Southern.

1/27/16 at Florida Atlantic (L 78-67)
1/30/16 at Furman (W 81-64)

Teams like the Wildcats should not be losing to 5 win teams like Florida Atlantic, even if it is on the road. Have to wonder if Coach Childress isn't at least regretting a little not taking one of those many offers he had in the offseason.

Hawaii (B.B. Gunn) -- 10-10, 1-6 9th (last) WAC.

1/25/16 at Boise St. (L 87-49)
1/30/16 vs. #9 Nevada (W 84-64)

Well, if there's ever a time to break a losing streak, why not do it against a top 25 team? I'm sure they'd love to trade some of those points for some extra points against Boise St. though. What a shamble of a game that was.

Oregon State (Jawouk Bafou) -- 15-6, 3-4 T-4th WAC.

1/28/16 at #9 Nevada (L 87-75)
1/30/16 vs. New Mexico St. (W 73-63)

The Beavers also break a losing streak this week, but they'll tell you they'd have rather had the game at Nevada. Still, wins are wins at this point.

I thought maybe UTEP would get a few votes in the coaches poll, but no such luck. Boston College moves up, UCLA stays put.

Looks like I jinxed Hawaii. And Louisville is just terrible right now. At least Cal Poly is making it a memorable season for my guys.

1 feature game this week, and it's in the Pac 10. Let's take a look.

2/4/16- Hawaii (B.B. Gunn) @ Oregon State (Jawouk Bafou) -- This was a battle of Pac 10 teams that are both struggling right now, with both teams really needing the win. Unfortunately, it was a completely one sided affair, as only 1 team bothered to show up in this one. Hawaii came to play, shooting 45.5% from the field while Oregon State shot just 33.8% from the field. The Warriors came to Oregon State and completely dismantled them.

Final Score: Hawaii- 94, Oregon State- 63

Other Games

Hartford (David Ginsberg) -- 13-11, 4-7 T-6th America East.

2/7/16 at New Hampshire (L 65-44)

Just the 1 game this week for the Hawks, and it wasn't a good one. Blowout city.

Maine (Cillian O'Reilly) -- 12-12, 7-5 T-2nd America East.

2/5/16 vs. Binghamton (L 78-66)
2/7/16 at Vermont (W 89-82)

A split this week for the Black Bears, as they get a win against their rivals in Vermont, but couldn't defend their home turf.

Charlotte (Timmy Tribble) -- 9-13, 4-4 T-7th Atlantic 10.

2/3/16 vs. LaSalle (W 81-58)
2/6/16 at #24 Temple (W 66-58)

Something is clicking right now for the 49ers, as they have won 3 straight against solid competition. Coach Tribble seems to have found the right pieces to make a late season run.

#5 Boston College (Alex Donovan) -- 21-1, 8-0 1st ACC.

2/3/16 at Miami (W 74-71)
2/6/16 at Florida St. (W 72-54)

A road trip through Florida seemed to be no problem for the Eagles, who continue to run through ACC play without much of a sweat.

Colorado (Rob Nielsen) -- 11-11, 4-5 T-8th Big 12.

2/3/16 at Nebraska (L 94-86)
2/6/16 at Missouri (W 81-74)

The Buffaloes broke a 3 game losing streak with the win at Missouri, but just are not living up to preseason expectations. They've gotten it done at home, but not on the road, which is the story for most teams.

Louisville (Kuji Chagulia) -- 12-8, 6-4 T-5th Big East.

2/3/16 vs. #16 Notre Dame (W 67-66)
2/6/16 vs. #2 Villanova (L 66-53)

Tough week for the Cardinals, with a couple Top 20 opponents on the schedule. They get the split, but it took a last second defensive stop to hold on against Notre Dame.

High Point (Roy Rogers) -- 10-13, 6-6 T-7th Big South.

2/4/16 at Florida Gulf Coast (L 83-76)
2/6/16 at Presbyterian (W 57-34)

The Panthers haven't really put together a solid winning streak, but on the other hand, they haven't had a solid losing streak either. This is a team with lots of potential, but missing some key pieces.

Iowa (Ernesto Lopez) -- 15-7, 8-3 2nd Big 10.

2/3/16 vs. Michigan State (W 76-70)
2/6/16 at Northwestern (W 91-82)

Great week for the Hawkeyes who shrugged off that embarrassing non-conference loss last week. A solid win against a struggling Michigan St. team followed by a good win at Northwestern.

Penn State (Tim Sheppard) -- 14-8, 8-2 1st Big 10.

2/3/16 at Indiana (W 76-67)
2/6/16 vs. #17 Ohio State (W 80-60)

It's unusual to see the Nittany Lions on top of the Big 10, but that's exactly where they are after a big week that saw them not only beat, but pound a ranked Ohio St. team. Next week will be another tough week, with a return match at Iowa looming.

Cal Poly (DeShawn St. John) -- 11-11, 4-5 6th Big West.

2/2/16 at UC Riverside (W 67-62)
2/4/16 at Long Beach State (L 51-48)

Almost a sweep this week for the Mustangs, who lost a late lead at Long Beach. This is still an improved Cal Poly team, but will it be enough for coach St. John to keep his job?

UTEP (Jeeber Mack) -- 16-6, 6-2 T-3rd Conference USA.

2/3/16 at Central Florida (L 79-69)
2/6/16 at ECU (W 75-53)

My guess is the Miners would have liked to have had that game at Central Florida back, as a bad finish cost them dearly. Still, this is also an improved UTEP team that has a chance to finish high in C-USA.

Wright State (Shane Korme) -- 11-13, 6-6 T-5th Horizon.

2/4/16 at Loyola-IL (L 91-88)
2/6/16 at IL-Chicago (W 76-64)

The monkey is off the backs of the Raiders who get a much needed win and break a 4 game losing streak. Now it's time for them to turn the corner as the Horizon is still wide open.

Central Michigan (Cannon Pace) -- 7-14, 3-5 T-4th in West Division of MAC.

2/3/16 vs. Miami (OH) (W 77-56)
2/6/16 at Ball State (W 65-64)

Good week for the Chippewas, and it couldn't have come at a better time. Now can Central Michigan maintain the momentum, or was this a fluke week?

Evansville (Ekeje Bafou) -- 12-12, 6-7 T-7th MVC.

2/4/16 vs. Drake (L 55-52)
2/6/16 vs. Indiana State (W 74-43)

Wow! Did the Aces come to play against Indy State or what? I don't think Larry Bird himself could have helped them on this day. Unfortunately, the schedule gets brutal for Evansville after this point, with 5 of their last 6 games against teams that have 13 wins or more.

Bryant (Score Galore) -- 8-15, 7-5 T-3rd Northeast.

2/3/16 at Fairleigh Dickinson (L 82-77)
2/6/16 at Robert Morris (L 65-63)

2 tough losses this week for the Bulldogs, by a combined 7 points. This really caused Bryant to lose momentum, of which they have a chance to get back next week.

Monmouth (Thomas Carrano) -- 9-14, 5-7 9th Northeast.

2/3/16 vs. Quinnipiac (W 85-67)
2/6/16 at St. Francis-NY (W 73-54)

A great week for the Hawks, who blasted 2 opponents and break a 4 game losing streak. Next week: a rematch with Bryant.

#8 UCLA (Patrick Hutt) -- 21-2, 10-1 1st Pac 10.

2/4/16 at California (W 89-74)
2/6/16 at Stanford (W 85-69)

Another easy week for the Bruins, who have now won 7 in a row. Next week they get a chance to avenge their only conference loss as they host a rematch with Arizona.

Davidson (Randolph Childress) -- 10-14, 5-7 4th in South Division of Southern.

2/3/16 vs. Georgia Southern (L 94-67)
2/6/16 vs. Wofford (L 88-70)

How far have the Wildcats fallen? Look no farther than this week, in which they got blown out twice at home. The 3 game winning streak they had in early January is but a distant memory. Recruiting has played a role as Davidson has been outrecruited by several Southern schools over the years, which doesn't make sense as coach Childress has a 91 recruit ranking.

Hawaii (B.B. Gunn) -- 12-10, 3-6 9th (last) WAC.

2/4/16 at Oregon State- feature game, highlighted above.
2/6/16 at San Jose State (W 65-53)

Great week for the Warriors who are back over .500 and are now on a 3 game winning streak after a 7 game losing streak in January. Sadly, with the WAC being so jumbled, they are still in last place, but have a chance to move up next week.

Oregon State (Jawouk Bafou) -- 16-7, 4-5 T-4th WAC.

2/4/16 vs. Hawaii- feature game, highlighted above.
2/6/16 at Gonzaga (W 83-80)

On a bright note, the Beavers have won 2 out of their last 3 after a 3 game losing streak. Unfortunately, next week they face 2 of the top teams in the WAC. And as for how convoluted the WAC is? A 4-5 conference record is good enough for 4th place, and 5 WAC teams share that 4-5 conference record.

Still stunning to me that neither Iowa, Penn St., or UTEP are getting any kind of love in the coaches poll. I figure all 3 are good enough to receive at least 1 vote.

Weird polls, as despite losing by over 30 to Hawaii, Oregon St. rises 2 spots in the mid-major poll, while UTEP loses 2 spots and they lost to a team that is receiving votes in the mid-major poll. Weird.

2 feature games this week, a huge showdown in the Big 10 and a match-up of Northeast teams. Let's start in the Big 10.

2/10/16- Penn State (Tim Sheppard) @ Iowa (Ernesto Lopez) -- A battle of the top 2 teams in the Big 10 was over at halftime. The Hawkeyes jumped out to a 14 point halftime lead and never looked back, holding Penn State to just 31.5% shooting and outrebounded them 37-29, getting revenge for an earlier loss at Penn St.

Final Score: Iowa- 70, Penn State- 51

Now we move to the Northeast:

2/13/16- Monmouth (Thomas Carrano) @ Bryant (Score Galore. -- The first time these teams met, it was Monmouth getting a 5 point win. Things were completely different this time around, as the Hawks jumped out early and used a 25-6 run early in the second half to ice the game. Bryant committed 22 turnovers in the game and Monmouth got revenge with east.

Final Score: Monmouth- 92, Bryant- 65

Other Games

Hartford (David Ginsberg) -- 13-13, 4-9 T-8th America East.

2/10/16 at Binghamton (L 87-73)
2/14/16 vs. Vermont (L 75-70)

Not a good week for the Hawks, who actually competed well against Vermont, but lost a lot of ground in the conference race.

Maine (Cillian O'Reilly) -- 12-13, 7-6 4th America East.

2/14/16 vs. Albany (L 84-69)

Short week for the Black Bears, who lost to league leader Albany and will try to get back on track next week.

Charlotte (Timmy Tribble) -- 10-14, 5-5 T-8th Atlantic 10.

2/10/16 at St. Louis (L 74-61)
2/13/16 vs. UMass (W 76-60)

Still a decent week for the 49ers, who competed at St. Louis until the final minutes, then took care of business against UMass.

#5 Boston College (Alex Donovan) -- 23-1, 10-0 1st ACC.

2/10/16 vs. Maryland (W 99-64)
2/13/16 vs. Virginia (W 91-55)

Another easy week for the Eagles who are making a strong case to be the top overall seed in the NCAA Tournament, albeit against an ACC that isn't at its strongest.

Colorado (Rob Nielsen) -- 11-12, 4-6 9th Big 12.

2/13/16 vs. #9 Kansas (L 79-72)

A great effort in the Buffaloes' only game of the week, but they just didn't have enough.

Louisville (Kuji Chagulia) -- 12-10, 6-6 T-8th Big East.

2/10/16 vs. Syracuse (L 60-58)
2/13/16 at St. Johns (L 65-58)

2 tough losses for the Cardinals, who are having their worst season in quite some time. Still plenty of time to turn it around.

High Point (Roy Rogers) -- 12-13, 8-6 T-1st Big South.

2/11/16 vs. UNC Asheville (W 69-52)
2/13/16 vs. Gardner Webb (W 65-62)

2 solid wins for the Panthers, and what a difference a week makes, going from 7th to tops in the conference, but they are sharing it with 3 other teams right now in a wide open race.

Iowa (Ernesto Lopez) -- 16-8, 9-4 T-2nd Big 10.

2/10/16 vs. Penn State- feature game, highlighted above
2/13/16 at Purdue (L 66-40)

Yuck! Not the way to continue a streak after a great win against conference leader Penn State. The Hawkeyes got Hawkeyed by Purdue.

Penn State (Tim Sheppard) -- 14-10, 8-4 4th Big 10.

2/10/16 at Iowa- feature game, highlighted above.
2/13/16 at Wisconsin (L 72-65)

Not a good road trip for the Nittany Lions who lose their lock on first place and now stand alone in 4th.

Cal Poly (DeShawn St. John) -- 12-12, 5-6 T-6th Big West.

2/9/16 vs. Pacific (W 89-60)
2/11/16 at Cal St. Northridge (L 76-41)

2 blowouts this week for the Mustangs, 1 good, 1 bad. The streak of .500 basketball continues after they started 2-6.

UTEP (Jeeber Mack) -- 17-7,7-3 T-3rd Conference USA.

2/10/16 at UAB (L 80-55)
2/13/16 at Marshall (W 78-64)

Losing by 25 at a conference leader isn't the impression you want to make. The Miners are improved but still have work to do.

Wright State (Shane Korme) -- 13-13, 8-6 T-2nd Horizon.

2/11/16 vs. Cleveland State (W 87-64)
2/13/16 vs. Youngstown State (W 90-68)

Great week for the Raiders who have won 3 in a row and are right in the hunt of the conference title now.

Central Michigan (Cannon Pace) -- 7-16, 3-7 T-4th MAC.

2/10/16 at Akron (L 69-63)
2/13/16 vs. Kent State (L 81-71)

The question appears to be answered as last week appears to be a fluke week for the Chippewas, although they did play 2 tough games this week against very strong teams.

Evansville (Ekeje Bafou) -- 13-13, 7-8 7th MVC.

2/11/16 at Creighton (L 73-54)
2/13/16 at Northern Iowa (W 69-59)

With the win at Northern Iowa, the Aces have now set the record for win total in a season since this dynasty began. They previously had done no better than 12 wins a season. Now, this probably won't net the younger Bafou any Coach of the Year awards, but it seems to be a step in the right direction.

Bryant (Score Galore) -- 8-17, 7-7 T-5th Northeast.

2/10/16 at St. Francis-NY (L 77-72)
2/13/16 vs. Monmouth- feature game, highlighted above.

The losing streak is now 5 for the Bulldogs who are definitely going the wrong way.

Monmouth (Thomas Carrano) -- 11-14, 7-7 T-5th Northeast.

2/10/16 at Robert Morris (W 57-48)
2/13/16 at Bryant- feature game, highlighted above.

The Hawks are going in a different direction after a 4 game winning streak, but still have a long way to go to get to the point they've been at before, which is competing for a conference title.

#8 UCLA (Patrick Hutt) -- 22-3, 11-2 T-1st Pac 10.

2/11/16 vs. Arizona State (W 67-50)
2/13/16 vs. #11 Arizona (L 59-44)

The Bruins had 2 chances to beat Arizona, but lost them both handily, and those are the only 2 conference losses. That loss also snapped an 8 game winning streak.

Davidson (Randolph Childress) -- 11-15, 6-8 4th in South Division of Southern.

2/10/16 vs. Elon (L 100-95, OT)
2/13/16 vs. Appalachian State (W 76-55)

The Wildcats break a 3 game losing streak with the win at Appalachian State. I'm scratching my head at how things have chance for Coach Childress.

Hawaii (B.B. Gunn) -- 13-11, 4-7 T-8th WAC.

2/11/16 vs. New Mexico State (L 82-81)
2/13/16 at Louisiana Tech (W 85-69)

A heartbreaking loss for the Warriors, who had everything going their way. Still, winning 4 of their last 5 isn't bad.

Oregon State (Jawouk Bafou) -- 17-7, 5-5 T-2nd WAC.

2/13/16 vs. San Jose State (W 82-69)

Just 1 game for the Beavers this week, a solid win. They have resigned themselves to the fact that they can't win the WAC title as Nevada is several games ahead, but a postseason appearance is definitely in the cards.

Oregon State jumps UTEP in the mid-major poll, the Miners stay at 14.

Bubble Watch

It just occurred to me that I have been forgetting to fill you all in on the bubble watch. So I'll do that now. None of our teams are in the overall bubble watch, so I'll do a quick version of the conference bubble watch.

Locks- Boston College, Iowa, UTEP, UCLA
In- Oregon State
Everybody else is projected out, the other 15 teams. Remember, this is only for the NCAA tournament. Some of the other 15 teams could be in the running for some other tournaments.

No feature games this week, so let's get right into the schedule.

Hartford (David Ginsberg) -- 14-14, 5-10 T-8th America East.

2/17/16 vs. Boston U (W 79-68)
2/21/16 at Stony Brook (L 64-48)

Yet another split for the Hawks this week, seems to be a recurring trend.

Maine (Cillian O'Reilly) -- 13-14, 8-7 4th America East.

2/19/16 vs. UMBC (W 70-60)
2/21/16 vs. Boston U (L 79-73)

A split for the Black Bears as well, as they blew a lead late against Boston U.

Charlotte (Timmy Tribble) -- 12-14, 7-5 T-5th Atlantic 10.

2/17/16 vs. George Washington (W 78-58)
2/20/16 at St. Bonaventure (W 65-62)

Huge week for the 49ers who got 2 big wins and are now on a 4 game winning streak. Believe it or not they still have a chance to win the A-10 regular season title.

#4 Boston College (Alex Donovan) -- 25-1, 12-0 1st ACC.

2/17/16 vs. Virginia Tech (W 81-43)
2/20/16 at Wake Forest (W 104-85)

2 more easy wins for the Eagles, who continue to make a case for the top overall seed in the NCAA Tourney.

Colorado (Rob Nielsen) -- 13-12, 6-6 T-7th Big 12.

2/17/16 vs. Nebraska (W 88-84)
2/20/16 at Texas A&M (W 73-65)

Solid week for the Buffaloes who are back to .500 in the Big 12.

Louisville (Kuji Chagulia) -- 13-11, 7-7 T-8th Big East.

2/17/16 at Providence (W 87-76)
2/20/16 vs. #18 UConn (L 76-68)

The Cardinals just can't break through and get that key win against a top 25 team.

High Point (Roy Rogers) -- 14-13, 10-6 1st Big South.

2/18/16 at Coastal Carolina (W 58-45)
2/20/16 at Charleston Southern (W 67-59)

The Panthers now own 1st place all by themselves with 2 games to go in the conference season, and are on a 5 game winning streak.

Iowa (Ernesto Lopez) -- 17-9, 10-5 T-4th Big 10.

2/17/16 at #22 Michigan (W 80-79)
2/20/16 vs. Illinois (L 64-48)

Getting hammered by Illinois has cost the Hawkeyes a share of 1st place, but they did get a close win over a ranked team.

Penn State (Tim Sheppard) -- 16-10, 10-4 T-1st Big 10.

2/17/16 vs. #24 Purdue (W 113-106, OT)
2/20/16 at Northwestern (W 91-75)

Huge week for the Nittany Lions. Not sure how many overtimes the game against Purdue went, but what a shootout.

Cal Poly (DeShawn St. John) -- 12-13, 5-7 T-6th Big West.

2/20/16 vs. Cal St. Fullerton (L 82-78)

A gallant effort against the league leaders in the Mustangs' only game of the week. This loss really stings because Coach St. John had his team up by 11 at halftime but they let it slip away.

UTEP (Jeeber Mack) -- 19-7, 9-3 T-2nd Conference USA.

2/17/16 at Houston (W 77-65)
2/20/16 at SMU (W 69-66)

The Miners keep rolling and have won 4 of their last 5, with some good tests coming up.

Wright State (Shane Korme) -- 14-14, 9-7 T-2nd Horizon.

2/18/16 at Green Bay (W 99-94, OT)
2/20/16 at Milwaukee (L 76-74, OT)

The Raiders played a lot of extra ball this week, splitting the Wisconsin road trip, and falling just short of a sweep.

Central Michigan (Cannon Pace) -- 9-16, 5-7 T-3rd West Division of MAC.

2/17/16 vs. Eastern Michigan (W 74-62)
2/20/16 at Western Michigan (W 68-59)

A good week for the Chippewas, and we'll see if the inconsistency continues, as they've been on a win 2, lose 2 streak since late January.

Evansville (Ekeje Bafou) -- 15-13, 9-8 T-4th MVC.

2/18/16 vs. Wichita St. (W 69-60)
2/20/16 vs. Bradley (W 50-38)

Don't look now, but the Aces have their first winning record late in the season since this dynasty started. They've still got a chance to finish 3rd in the MVC. Wow.

Bryant (Score Galore) -- 8-19, 7-9 9th Northeast.

2/17/16 vs. Central Connecticut St. (L 61-59)
2/20/16 at Mt. St. Marys (L 65-56)

7 losses in a row now for the Bulldogs, who at one point were 7-2 in the Northeast Conference.

Monmouth (Thomas Carrano) -- 12-15, 8-8 T-6th Northeast.

2/17/16 at Long Island (W 85-58)
2/20/16 vs. Sacred Heart (L 77-55)

It took the conference leaders to break the hot streak of the Hawks, who had won 5 in a row coming into that game.

#8 UCLA (Patrick Hutt) -- 24-3, 13-2 1st Pac 10.

2/18/16 at Washington (W 67-42)
2/20/16 at Washington St. (W 86-49)

The Bruins had no trouble cruising through the Washington trip and lead the Pac 10 by 2 games.

Davidson (Randolph Childress) -- 11-17, 6-10 4th in South Division of Southern.

2/17/16 at Western Carolina (L 68-51)
2/20/16 at Citadel (L 86-78)

The Wildcats continue to make a case for most disappointing FOFC coached team this season, as they've now lost 5 of 6.

Hawaii (B.B. Gunn) -- 14-12, 5-7 T-5th WAC.

2/15/16 vs. Fresno St. (W 76-63)
2/20/16 at St. Marys (L 87-79)

Former conference member St. Marys came back to knock off the Warriors and end their streak of winning 5 of their last 6, but at leas tthey did get the conference win.

Oregon State (Jawouk Bafou) -- 19-7, 7-5 2nd WAC.

2/18/16 at Boise St. (W 76-66)
2/20/16 at Louisiana Tech (W 71-60)

2 more wins for the Beavers, who have won 5 of their last 6. They've got a big one coming up next week against Nevada.

Still disappointed at the lack of respect some of FOFC coached teams are getting. You're telling me UTEP and Oregon St. can't get 1 frikkin vote from the coaches? Ridiculous.

At least both Oregon St. and UTEP are holding strong in the mid-major polls.

Time for this weeks edition of the Bubble Watch, and we've got 1 of our teams in the overall bubble watch.

The Nittany Lions are on the First four in list and are only 1 of 2 teams on this list to have a winning record against top 50 teams. A couple more wins next week should seal their NCAA bid.

Now let's take a look at the other 19 teams:

Locks: Boston College, Iowa, UTEP, UCLA, Oregon State

The other 14 teams are projected out of the NCAA Tournament.

Just wanted to touch base and let everybody know that I will not be around much for the next couple weeks. There is a huge baseball tournament coming to town that I am helping out with. I may occasionally sneak in a post or 2 over the next 3 weeks, but don't hold your breath.

I will have a lot more free time starting mid-August though, so hopefully I can really get a move on this. Thanks for your patience all

Feb. 22-28, 2016

Hartford (David Ginsberg) -- 15-14, 6-10 T-6th America East.

2/24/16 at UMBC (W 71-62)

The Hawks finish out the regular season on a winning note, and will be the 6th seed in the America East Tourney, taking on (3) New Hampshire in the Quarterfinals.

Maine (Cillian O'Reilly) -- 13-15, 8-8 4th America East.

2/26/16 at New Hampshire (L 84-78)

The Black Bears have a non-conference game with Harvard coming up, then they'll be the 4th seed in the America East Tourney, and will take on (5) Binghamton in the Quarterfinals.

Charlotte (Timmy Tribble) -- 12-16, 7-7 T-7th Atlantic 10.

2/24/16 at Rhode Island (L 79-76)
2/27/16 at Dayton (L 99-79)

Not a good road trip for the 49ers, who lose both, but at least they competed at Rhode Island.

#3 Boston College (Alex Donovan) -- 27-1, 14-0 1st ACC.

2/24/16 vs. N.C. State (W 88-77)
2/27/16 at Clemson (W 80-72)

The Eagles continue to soar, leading into their big week next week as they have rematches with both North Carolina and Duke.

Colorado (Rob Nielsen) -- 13-14, 6-8 T-6th Big 12.

2/24/16 at Oklahoma (L 90-73)
2/27/16 vs. Kansas St. (L 83-70)

Tough week for the Buffaloes who drop a pair, and that loss to K-State really stings.

Louisville (Kuji Chagulia) -- 14-12, 8-8 8th Big East.

2/24/16 at South Florida (W 84-55)
2/27/16 vs. Georgetown (L 75-63)

The Cardinals still struggle to beat the better Big East teams, but they've got 1 more chance next week.

High Point (Roy Rogers) -- 16-13, 12-6 1st Big South.

2/25/16 vs. Liberty (W 72-65)
2/27/16 vs. VMI (W 57-48)

The Panthers assure themselves of a postseason berth by winning the Big South regular season title and will be the top seed in the Big South Tourney. They'll open up the Quarterfinals against (8) Liberty.

Iowa (Ernesto Lopez) -- 18-10, 11-6 4th Big 10.

2/24/16 at Wisconsin (L 63-57)
2/27/16 vs. Minnesota (W 62-55)

A split for the Hawkeyes who needed that win at Wisconsin to stay at the top of the conference race, but are still in good position.

Penn State (Tim Sheppard) -- 16-12, 10-6 5th Big 10.

2/24/16 vs. Michigan State (L 67-59)
2/27/16 vs. Illinois (L 74-68)

Not a good week for the Nittany Lions, who lose their conference lead and are now really on the bubble.

Cal Poly (DeShawn St. John) -- 13-14, 6-8 T-6th Big West.

2/25/16 vs. UC Irvine (W 52-45)
2/27/16 at UC Davis (L 74-62)

A split for the Mustangs, who will look to what should be a couple easy games next week.

UTEP (Jeeber Mack) -- 21-7, 11-3 2nd Conference USA.

2/24/16 at Memphis (W 68-61)
2/27/16 vs. Tulsa (W 82-64)

The Miners are still in the race for the C-USA title, 1 game back. The game against Tulane next week is looming large.

Wright State (Shane Korme) -- 15-15, 10-8 T-2nd Horizon.

2/25/16 vs. Valparaiso (W 84-53)
2/27/16 vs. Butler (L 58-46)

Winning against Butler might have given the Raiders the Horizon title, but instead they finish 2nd, winning a 4 team tiebreaker, and will be the #2 seed in the Horizon Tournament. With the weird format, they get a double bye into the Semifinals and will face either (3) Illinois-Chicago, (10) Cleveland St., (6) Valparaiso, or (7) Green Bay.

Central Michigan (Cannon Pace) -- 11-16, 7-7 2nd in West Division of MAC.

2/24/16 vs. Ball State (W 56-55)
2/27/16 at Toledo (W 74-69)

4 in a row for the Chippewas, and 6 of their last 8, with a chance to finish over .500 in conference with 2 wins next week.

Evansville (Ekeje Bafou) -- 16-13, 10-8 T-3rd MVC.

2/27/16 at Missouri State (W 74-59)

The Aces finish conference play on a good note, and have a non-conference game remaining against a very tough IUPUI team. They'll be the 5th seed in the MVC Tourney and will take on (4) Indiana State in the Quarterfinals.

Bryant (Score Galore) -- 8-21, 7-11 T-9th Northeast.

2/24/16 vs. Quinnipiac (L 77-76)
2/27/16 at Long Island (L 74-55)

So the Bulldogs finish their regular season on a 9 game losing streak and fail to qualify for the Northeast Tourney. Their season is over.

Monmouth (Thomas Carrano) -- 13-16, 9-9 7th Northeast.

2/24/16 at St. Francis-PA (L 86-78)
2/27/16 vs. Fairleigh Dickinson (W 77-68)

A split for the Hawks this week, which ends a 2 game losing streak and give them the 7th seed in the Northeast Tourney. They'll open up the Quarterfinals with (2) Quinnipiac.

#7 UCLA (Patrick Hutt) -- 25-4, 14-3 1st Pac 10.

2/25/16 vs. Utah State (W 76-69)
2/27/16 vs. Oregon (L 71-61)

The Bruins missed a chance to clinch at least a tie for the Pac 10 title with a loss to Oregon, and now really needs to beat USC next week.

Davidson (Randolph Childress) -- 13-17, 8-10 4th in South Division of Southern.

2/24/16 vs. Samford (W 95-91)
2/27/16 at UNC Greensboro (W 76-73)

2 tough wins for the Wildcats this week, but hopefully they are battle tested and ready for the Southern Tourney. They'll be the 8th seed and will play in the Quarterfinals against (9) Western Carolina.

Hawaii (B.B. Gunn) -- 14-14, 5-9 T-8th WAC.

2/25/16 at Gonzaga (L 89-86, OT)
2/27/16 vs. Boise State (L 91-67)

Yuck! The Warriors forgot to show up against Boise St., and next week won't be easy as they face the top 2 teams in the conference.

Oregon State (Jawouk Bafou) -- 20-8, 8-6 2nd WAC.

2/25/16 vs. Fresno State (L 97-71)
2/27/16 vs. #11 Nevada (W 72-56)

A reversal of fortunes here, as the Beavers beat the team I thought they'd lose to, and got thumped by the team I thought they'd beat. 2nd place is still within reach, but they really need to win both their games next week.

So UTEP moves up a couple spots in the mid-major poll while Oregon State moves down.

Time for this weeks edition of the bubble watch, and with none of our teams in the overall bubble watch, let's see how they do conference wise.

Locks: Boston College, Iowa, UTEP, UCLA
In: Oregon State

The other 14 teams are projected out.

We have 1 feature game this week, and it took place in the WAC.

3/5/16- Oregon State (Jawouk Bafou) @ Hawaii (B.B. Gunn) -- A huge game for both teams going into the WAC tourney, and it was really almost as even as you can get. The difference was that Hawaii hit a couple more shots from the field and a few more free throws to get a big win ending the regular season.

Final Score: Hawaii- 83, Oregon State- 75

Hartford (David Ginsberg) -- 15-15, 6-10 America East.

3/5/16- America East Quarterfinals vs. (3) New Hampshire (L 67-59)

With that loss, the Hawks will have most likely ended their season.

Maine (Cillian O'Reilly) -- 14-16, 8-8 America East.

2/29/16 vs. Harvard (W 82-53)
3/5/16- America East Quarterfinals vs. (5) Binghamton (L 81-72)

The Black Bears end a disappointing season with a loss in the A-East Quarters.

Charlotte (Timmy Tribble) -- 14-16, 9-7 T-6th Atlantic 10.

3/2/16 vs. Duquesne (W 76-57)
3/5/16 at Xavier (W 80-71)

Great week for the 49ers who take a lot of momentum into the A-10 Tourney. They'll be the 8th seed and will open up in the First Round against (9) Richmond.

#3 Boston College (Alex Donovan) -- 28-2, 15-1 1st ACC.

3/2/16 at #1 North Carolina (L 77-62)
3/5/16 vs. #18 Duke (W 109-83)

The Eagles will take a split for the week, as beating Duke gave them the regular season ACC title and the top seed in the ACC Tournament. They'll open up in the Quarterfinals against the (9) Virginia Tech/(8) Maryland winner.

Colorado (Rob Nielsen) -- 13-16, 6-10 T-8th Big 12.

3/2/16 at Iowa State (L 79-77, OT)
3/5/16 vs. Missouri (L 84-77)

The Buffaloes will take a 4 game losing streak into the Big 12 Tourney, where they will be the 10th seed after losing all the tiebreakers and open up in the First Round against (7) Texas Tech.

Louisville (Kuji Chagulia) -- 15-13, 9-9 8th Big East.

3/2/16 vs. West Virginia (W 79-77, OT)
3/5/16 at Marquette (L 80-76)

The Cardinals now have 3 straight weeks of splitting their games and will take the 8th seed into the Big East Tourney. They'll get a bye into the Second Round and will face the winner of (16) Cincinnati/(9) Georgetown.

High Point (Roy Rogers) -- 16-14, 12-6 Big South.

3/1/16- Big South First Round vs. (8) Liberty (L 78-69)

A tough loss for the Panthers, but they will continue their season. By virtue of winning the Big South regular season title, they should get an auto-bid to the NIT.

Iowa (Ernesto Lopez) -- 19-11, 12-6 3rd Big 10.

2/29/16 vs. Illinois State (L 76-59)
3/5/16 vs. Indiana (W 54-51)

The Hawkeyes missed a chance for a 20 win season with an embarrassing blowout against Illinois St, but still had a good regular season. They'll go into the Big 10 Tourney as the 3rd seed and get a bye to the Quarterfinals where they'll take on the winner of (11) Minnesota/(6) Penn State).

Penn State (Tim Sheppard) -- 16-14, 10-8 T-6th Big 10.

3/2/16 at Michigan (L 81-70)
3/5/16 at Minnesota (L 62-46)

The Nittany Lions will take a 4 game losing streak into the Big 10 Tourney where they'll be the 6th seed and look to get revenge as they open up in the First Round against (11) Minnesota.

Cal Poly (DeShawn St. John) -- 15-14, 8-8 T-5th Big West.

3/3/16 vs. UC Riverside (W 85-81, OT)
3/5/16 at UC Santa Barbara (W 58-55)

2 tough wins this week have given the Mustangs a .500 record in conference, and has easily surpassed Coach St. Johns best season record so far. They'll be the 6th seed in the Big West Tourney and with the weird format will take on (7) Long Beach State in the First Round.

UTEP (Jeeber Mack) -- 23-7, 13-3 T-1st Conference USA.

3/2/16 vs. Tulane (W 77-66)
3/5/16 vs. Rice (W 62-51)

The Miners continue to roll, taking 7 straight wins into the Conference USA Tourney. Although they have to split the C-USA regular season title, they won the tiebreaker and will be the top seed in the Tourney. They get a bye into the Quarterfinals and will take on the winner of (9) SMU/(8) Rice.

Wright State (Shane Korme) -- 16-15, 10-8 Horizon.

3/5/16- Horizon Semifinals vs. (3) Illinois-Chicago (W 70-62).

It's pretty simple going into next week for the Raiders. If they win the Horizon Championship game, they go dancing. If not, they probably stay home for the postseason.

Central Michigan (Cannon Pace) -- 11-18, 7-9 T-2nd in West Division of MAC.

3/2/16 at Eastern Michigan (L 75-69)
3/5/16 vs. Northern Illinois (L 63-53)

The short winning streak is over for the Chippewas, who must win the MAC Tourney to see postseason play. Speaking of, they drew the 6th seed and will play (11) Buffalo in the First Round.

Evansville (Ekeje Bafou) -- 17-15, 10-8 MVC.

2/29/16 vs. #21 IUPUI (L 80-72)
3/4/16- MVC Quarterfinals vs. (4) Indiana State (W 66-57)
3/5/16- MVC Semifinals vs. (1) #16 Southern Illinois (L 89-68)

Not a good way to end the MVC Tourney for the Aces as they got rocked, but still a much improved season, and they'll hold out hope for a CBI or CIT berth.

Bryant (Score Galore) -- 8-21, 7-11 Northeast.

No games this week, as the Bulldogs did not qualify for the Northeast Tourney and their season is over.

Monmouth (Thomas Carrano) -- 13-17, 9-9 Northeast.

3/3/16- Northeast Quarterfinals vs. (2) Quinnipiac (L 70-68).

The Hawks almost pulled the upset in this one, but the fact is they didn't, and they'll end a very disappointing season with a 13-17 record.

#7 UCLA (Patrick Hutt) -- 26-4, 15-3 1st Pac 10.

3/5/16 vs. USC (W 75-63)

Beating USC gives the Bruins the Pac 10 regular season title and the top seed in the Pac 10 Tourney. They'll get a bye to the Quarterfinals and open up with the winner between (9) Arizona State/(8) California.

Davidson (Randolph Childress) -- 14-18, 8-10 Southern.

3/4/16- Southern First Round vs. (9) Western Carolina (W 84-64)
3/5/16- Southern Quarterfinals vs. (1) Georgia Southern (L 92-88)

The Wildcats end by far their worst season with a 14-18 record, and will look to regroup in the offseason.

Hawaii (B.B. Gunn) -- 15-15, 6-10 T-7th WAC.

3/3/16 at #14 Nevada (L 75-66)
3/5/16 vs. Oregon State- feature game, highlighted above.

Huge win for the Warriors as they get to .500 overall, but only good for the 8th seed in the WAC Tourney. They'll open up in the First Round against (9) Louisiana Tech.

Oregon State (Jawouk Bafou) -- 21-9, 9-7 T-2nd WAC.

3/3/16 at New Mexico State (W 66-55)
3/5/16 at Hawaii- feature game, highlighted above.

The Beavers still finish the season on a nice run, winning 6 of their last 8 and will get the 2nd seed in the WAC Tourney where they'll open up in the Quarterfinals against (7) Fresno State.

Both UTEP and Oregon State rise in the mid-major poll.

It's time for our final bubble watch of the season. No teams in the overall bubble watch, so let's go down the list.

Locks: Boston College, Iowa, UTEP, UCLA
In: Oregon State

Everybody else is projected out.

Big win for Hawaii there, but will it matter?

Hartford (David Ginsberg) -- 15-15, 6-10 America East.

No games this week.

Maine (Cillian O'Reilly) -- 14-16, 8-8 America East.

No games this week.

Charlotte (Timmy Tribble) -- 17-17, 9-7 Atlantic 10.

3/8/16- Atlantic 10 First Round vs. (9) Richmond (W 78-69)
3/11/16- Atlantic 10 Quarterfinals vs. (1) Dayton (W 110-103, OT)
3/12/16- Atlantic 10 Semifinals vs. (12) St. Bonaventure (W 75-67)
3/13/16- Atlantic 10 Championship vs. (2) #25 Rhode Island (L 80-71)

An incredible run for Coach Tribble and the 49ers, making it to the A-10 Championship. There are a lot of bubble teams that were happy to see them go down in the finals. Unfortunately, that run may not be good enough to extend the season.

#2 Boston College (Alex Donovan) -- 30-3, 15-1 ACC.

3/11/16- ACC Quarterfinals vs. (9) Virginia Tech (W 84-41)
3/12/16- ACC Semifinals vs. (5) #22 Miami (W 89-84)
3/13/16- ACC Championship vs. (2) #1 North Carolina (L 80-56).

Yikes! Somebody forgot to tell the Eagles to show up in the ACC Championship game, as they were completely dominated. It's hard to think coach Donovan and BC won't receive a #1 seed though, although they could get bumped down to a 2 seed after that loss.

Colorado (Rob Nielsen) -- 13-17, 6-10 Big 12.

3/9/16- Big 12 First Round vs. (7) Texas Tech (L 65-55)

A very disappointing season comes to an end, as the Buffaloes were expecting big things this season, but it never materialized.

Louisville (Kuji Chagulia) -- 15-14, 9-9 Big East.

3/9/16- Big East Second Round vs. (9) Georgetown (L 50-47).

Just a terrible season for the Cardinals, who are just a few seasons removed from a national championship. On name only, they might sneak into a postseason tournament, but a couple wins in the Big East Tourney would have went a long ways.

High Point (Roy Rogers) -- 16-14, 12-6 Big South.

No games this week.

Iowa (Ernesto Lopez) -- 21-12, 12-6 Big 10.

3/11/16- Big 10 Quarterfinals vs. (11) Minnesota (W 76-69).
3/12/16- Big 10 Semifinals vs. (10) Indiana (W 73-70).
3/13/16- Big 10 Championship vs. (1) Michigan State (L 93-76).

The Hawkeyes definitely got an easy path to the Big 10 title game, but Sparty is tough, and Coach Lopez and Iowa run into a buzzsaw there. I would like to think Iowa has done enough to make the Big Dance, especially since they've been a lock in the bubble watch for several weeks.

Penn State (Tim Sheppard) -- 16-15, 10-8 Big 10.

3/10/16- Big 10 First Round vs. (11) Minnesota (L 84-73).

Ugh! The Nittany Lions needed this win to help their cause for a postseason berth. Now it's very questionable whether they'll sniff a tournament or not.

Cal Poly (DeShawn St. John) -- 15-15, 8-8 Big West.

3/9/16- Big West First Round vs. (7) Long Beach State (L 64-60).

It's been a heck of a season for the Mustangs, who have more than doubled their win total over previous years, but it probably won't be enough to give Coach St. John his first taste of postseason.

#23 UTEP (Jeeber Mack) -- 24-8, 13-3 Conference USA.

3/10/16- Conference USA Quarterfinals vs. (8) Rice (W 85-66).
3/11/16- Conference USA Semifinals vs. (4) Tulane (L 65-57).

The Miners ended their regular season a game earlier than they wanted to. They will be safely dancing, the question is what will this loss do to their seeding?

Wright State (Shane Korme) -- 16-16, 10-8 Horizon.

3/8/16- Horizon Championship vs. (4) Detroit (L 81-52).

It was win or bust for the Raiders. They certainly didn't win and will most likely be sitting out the postseason.

Central Michigan (Cannon Pace) -- 12-19, 7-9 MAC.

3/8/16- MAC First Round vs. (11) Buffalo (W 68-61).
3/10/16- MAC Quarterfinals vs. (3) Kent State (L 78-62).

It went about as well as expected for the Chippewas, who will spend the rest of the season at home watching.

Evansville (Ekeje Bafou) -- 17-15, 10-8 MVC.

No games this week.

Bryant (Score Galore) -- 8-21, 7-11 Northeast.

No games this week.

Monmouth (Thomas Carrano) -- 13-17, 9-9 Northeast.

No games this week.

#9 UCLA (Patrick Hutt) -- 29-4, 15-3 Pac 10.

3/10/16- Pac 10 Quarterfinals vs. (8) California (W 98-88).
3/11/16- Pac 10 Semifinals vs. (5) Stanford (W 80-61).
3/12/16- Pac 10 Championship vs. (3) #10 Arizona (W 75-70).

Well, the Bruins were going dancing anyways, but with winning the Pac 10 Tourney, they may have just earned themselves a #1 seed. At the very least a 2 seed.

Davidson (Randolph Childress) -- 14-18, 8-10 Southern.

No games this week.

Hawaii (B.B. Gunn) -- 15-16, 6-10 WAC.

3/8/16- WAC First Round vs. (9) Louisiana Tech (L 70-60).

It doesn't get anymore embarrassing than this loss for the Warriors. Most likely they'd have been done after the next game anyways, but this will end their season.

Oregon State (Jawouk Bafou) -- 24-9, 9-7 WAC.

3/10/16- WAC Quarterfinals vs. (7) Fresno State (W 72-62)
3/11/16- WAC Semifinals vs. (6) San Jose State (W 59-51).
3/12/16- WAC Championship vs. (1) #14 Nevada (W 90-78).

The Beavers are for real again, after winning the WAC title in very convincing fashion. They were on the bubble coming into the WAC Tourney, but now they have clinched a spot in the big dance.

2016 Selection Sunday

First, something that jumped out at me right away is that we have 2 of our FOFC coaches playing each other in the postseason.

In the NCAA Midwest Region (8) UTEP will square off with (9) Iowa in the First Round. Now, what's even crazier is whoever wins that game will square off against (1) UCLA in the Second Round. That's assuming UCLA gets by (16) Iona in their first game. And we all know they will.

As far as other teams..

Oregon State got the 8th seed in the NCAA West Region and will face off against (9) Florida State in the First Round.

Boston College got the top seed in the NCAA East Region and will face the winner between UC Davis and Lehigh. That is a play-in game.

High Point, by virtue of winning the Big South regular season title, gets the 10th seed in the NIT Midwest Region and will travel to (7) Loyola-Maryland in the First Round.

And that, my friends, is it. 6, count em, 6 of our 20 FOFC teams made the postseason this year. Absolutely terrible. Now, I think Charlotte and Evansville got totally snubbed, they should still be playing. But, I feel that if things keep up, some of our teams are going to get better and better. Louisville will rebound, they have to.

I'll get the 2016 postseason going within the next couple days.

Guys, I am considering a change for next season. Instead of recapping the season tournaments and starting my weekly reports at the end of December/first of January, I'm considering doing just like I do with the FBCB Interactive Player dynasty, and starting my weekly reports at the beginning of the season. Obviously it would take more time to get through a season, but you guys would have a more in-depth look at your non-conference schedule.

Unless someone is totally opposed to me doing it this way, I'm going to try it with the beginning of next season.

NCAA Sweet Sixteen

(1) UCLA rolls over (12) Kent State 83-60.

(9) Purdue shocks (1) Boston College 80-69. So much for a potential UCLA-Boston College game.

NCAA Elite Eight

(1) UCLA over (6) Nevada 76-64.

It's up to UCLA to lead the FOFC coaches to prominence this season.

NCAA Final Four

(3E) ends the FOFC reign by beating (1MW) UCLA 68-64.

2016 Postseason Recap

We already know the results of 1 national semifinal, and the other saw (1W) Tennessee beat (2S) North Carolina 85-77. Tennessee then beat Pitt 73-61 in the National Championship.

The NIT Final Four was actually a decent one this year, based on seeding. In the first semifinal, (1W) Siena beat (3S) Stanford 80-72. The second semifinal saw (2E) Rider all over (2MW) Michigan 86-65. The NIT championship was a snoozefest, as Siena completely dismantled Rider 71-32.

The CBI Championship Series went all 3 games, and none of them were close. (11) Chattanooga beat (8) Arkansas 2 games to 1. Chattanooga won the first game 95-66, Arkansas won the second game 95-73, and Chattanooga won the final game 88-59.

The CIT Championship saw (10) Winthrop beat a very surprising (16) Long Island 62-54. What a run by Long Island though, proving that seedings don't matter much in these smaller tournaments (CBI, CIT).

Sometime this weekend will be the season wrap-up with awards, recruiting rankings, and any job offers, so be on the lookout.

Best season for Iowa yet, hopefully that helps a bit with recruiting.

Just a heads up, it may be a few days before I start the next season. I'm getting ready to start the process of creating a fairly extensive spreadsheet for you guys with a lot of key coach stats (records, tournament appearances, titles, etc etc) and will be updating it after every season. I know I don't have to do this, but this gives you guys an idea of how your coach is doing in some key stat lines.

Unfortunately, I'll probably have to go back through the thread and research to get some of the stats for all the coaches. Once I have the spreadsheet built, I'll send it and then we'll start the next season.

Also, I am looking for a few more coaches, so if you already have a coach in this and you want another (no more than 3 though, sorry bbgunn), let me know. I've got 1 new coach, I'd like to have 2 or 3 more. I'll even take 4 to get me up to 25.

Hopefully I'll have this ready to go by early next week.

If I can get you to do me a favor and go into the FBCB Coaches Dynasty sign-up thread and put all your info, that would be great. You can surely have Norfolk State.

Just wanted to give you guys a taste of what I'm working on, as there are 4 different tabs to the spreadsheet. Everything is blank right now, but here's all the pertinent stuff I came up with. Since I can only seem to get 1 at a time to show up, otherwise they turned into links, I'll do them 1 by 1. Here is record and 20+ win seasons, plus regular season and conf tourney titles. The other part of it is the in-season 8 team tourneys, and how your teams finished.

This second screenshot is for the 4 team and 16 team tourneys, again, this is just a way to know how every team finished in every tournament they played in:

The 3rd spreadsheet is season awards. I have it broken down by freshman of year, coach of year and player of year for national and conference level, and then 1st team, 2nd team, and All-Freshman Team for national and conference level, as well as national 3rd team. If any of your teams had a player who got an award or made an all whatever team, it'll be noted. Here's that spreadsheet:

And the 4th one is postseason tournaments. Now, I did fudge on this one a little bit, as there was no way enough space for me to break down every possible finish for every tournament, so for the smaller tourneys (CBI, CIT) I'm only tracking appearances and championships. I may add runner-ups to those at some point. For the NIT, I'm tracking appearances, Final Fours, and Championships. Again, I may add Runner-up. There was no way I was going to do lose in First Round, etc etc for the postseason tourneys. And for the NCAA, I'm tracking appearances, Sweet Sixteens, Final Fours, and Championships. Here's that spreadsheet.

Now, before you guys go off and say I'm putting way too much work into this, especially with everything else I've got going on, other projects and stuff, I have figured out how to manage my time to get a little bit of everything accomplished every day, every week. But I'm really enjoying this, and I want to track and see how all our coaches are doing. I'm a data and spreadsheet nut, I had 3 stints at a Remote Encoding Center, so doing this kind of stuff is nothing to me.

The only question I have is, after every season, should I separate each spreadsheet like I just did, or lump all 4 together and just provide the links for you guys to click on? I'm cool either way, just lemme know.

I am still working on the spreadsheet, and still looking for a couple new coaches. I've got 2 new ones, including a female coach (thanks for that thmscrrn3), I would gladly take 2 or 3 new coaches at this point. I think my limit will be 25, that's more than enough to keep me busy and keep this going.

Also, I'm still waiting on some opinions on how you would like me to produce the screenshots, whether one at a time, or post all 4 of them in links for you to click on. Either way is fine with me, whatever works for you guys.

Regardless of whether I hear from anybody or not, I'm going forward with the next season probably tomorrow night, or Thursday, as I'll try to be finishing up the spreadsheet tonight.
