FOF: Rewriting NFL history

The first football game I ever remember watching was the San Francisco/Cincinnati Superbowl at the conclusion of the 1981 season. I randomly picked the Bengals as the team to root for in that contest, and ever since I hated the 49ers. The next couple of seasons are pretty cloudy in my memory banks. I became a full fledged NFL fanatic at the start of the 1985 season and was very impressed by the Bears team that year. Who wasn't? The next year, my team won the Superbowl and I have been hooked on the NFL ever since.

So in this dynasty I will use FOF2007 to reply the NFL history from the 1982 strike season onward. The limitation of the game make it so that all the expansion teams since 1982 are in the game, as well as the relocated teams. I'll be using the historical roster set/draft files that have been created. I took control of the Panthers, but will not be doing any running of that team, so expect them to never make an impact. I will just be following the league, teams and players and submitting reports to this dynasty report as a way for me to get immersed in this historical replay. After the 2006 season, or possibly after all the teal players have retired I will take full control of the Panthers. That part of the dynasty may or may not be written up. Follow along if you wish and I will be happy to report on anything you are curious about.

1982 Regular Season

AFC

Pittsburgh Steelers 13-3. The Steelers are 2 games better than anybody else in the AFC this year. They are led by 12 year veteran QB Terry Bradshaw. Bradshaw had a brilliant year, throwing for over 4000 yards, 25 touchdowns and 9 interceptions. That resulted in a 104.5 QB rating. Eleven year pro RB Franco Harris was a force this year. He ran for 1630 yards and 19 touchdowns. The WR tandem of John Stallworth and Lynn Swann combined for 13 touchdown receptions and both had over 1000 yards receiving. The defense was the best in the league, allowing just 13 points per game. The Steelers have to be the heavy favorites to represent the AFC in the Superbowl.

Tennessee Titans 11-5. The Titans are one of two teams a tier below the Steelers. John Reeves had a solid year at QB, but the star of the team is RB Earl Campbell. He ran for 1793 yards and 18 touchdowns. He also had 9 receiving touchdowns, for a total of 27 on the year. Pretty amazing numbers. The defense was the 6th rated, allowing 16 points per game.

New York Jets 11-5. Led by QB Pat Ryan, the Jets won their division this year. RB Freeman McNeil tallied 1357 yards and 11 touchdowns. Mark Gastineau was a force on defense, racking up 14 sacks on the year. Ron Crosby tallied 11 sacks of his own. The Jets are balanced on both sides of the ball, but don't have that star power on offense that Tennessee has.

Cincinnati Bengals 10-6. One of two teams with double digit wins and a wildcard spot. QB Kenny Anderson threw for 17 touchdowns this year. Archie Griffin and Gino Perkins split duties in the backfield and combined for over 1600 yards and 12 touchdowns. The defense carried this team, as they were ranked number 2 in points allowed with 14.1.

Buffalo Bills 10-6. Its hard to see why this team got to 10 wins. They have no outstanding players, but just a solid bunch of guys getting the job done out on the field.

San Diego Chargers 9-7. Winners of the AFC West, they will host a playoff game this year. QB Dan Fouts was solid, throwing for 3815 yards and 25 touchdowns, for a 90.7 QB rating. RB Chuck Muncie topped the 1000 yard mark in rushing and scored 7 touchdowns. Wes Chandler was the Chargers top receiver with 1256 yards and 11 touchdowns. Charlie Joiner fell just short of 1000 receiving yards and had 4 touchdowns, but his 12 drops on the season were a sore spot. The defense is near the bottom of the league when it comes to giving up points and this may very well hurt them in the playoffs.

Cleveland and Kansas City both fell just short of the playoffs this year.

NFC

San Francisco 49ers 12-4. The 49ers are trying to repeat as champion and the road to the Superbowl in the NFC goes through San Francisco. They had the best record of a tightly packed group of teams in the playoffs. Joe Montana led the 2nd best offense in the league this year with over 4400 passing yards and 27 touchdowns. Jeff Moore and Ricky Patton split the ball carrying duties and totaled over 1500 yards and 17 touchdowns between them.

Atlanta Falcons 11-5. QB Steve Bartkowski had an amazing year leading the Atlanta offense. He threw 23 touchdown passes to just 2 interceptions on the year. The bulk of his passes went to WR Alfred Jenkins, who had 1360 yards and 14 touchdown catches. Gerald Riggs ran for 1094 yards and 10 touchdowns.

New York Giants 11-5. 4th year QB Phil Simms had a productive year with 22 touchdowns and a 97.6 QB rating. His favorite targets were Earnest Gray and Johnny Perkins, both with over 1000 receiving yards. RB Joe Morris ran for 1274 yards and 5 touchdowns. Second year phenom LB, Lawrence Taylor disappointed with just 3 sacks this year, but he did have 98 tackles.

Green Bay Packers 11-5. QB Lynn Dickey threw for a lot of yards, 4036, but also 16 interceptions. WR John Jefferson hauled in 100 catches for 1414 yards and 9 touchdowns. James Lofton had 1198 receiving yards as well. In the backfield, Gerry Ellis ran for the bulk of the yards, but they gave it to Del Rodgers in the red zone and he scored 12 touchdowns. On defense, Ezra Johnson and Mike Butler, a pair of DE's, each had over 10 sacks on the year.

Washington Redskins 11-5. In Washington it was Joe Theisman and Art Monk putting on an offensive show. Joe threw for over 4000 yards and 1475 of those went to Monk, who also caught 11 touchdowns.

Tampa Bay Bucs 10-6. I have to think this year was a big fluke for the Bucs. They sneak into the playoffs in a 3 way tie breaker. QB Doug Williams was pedestrian this year with a 77.7 QB rating. They didn't have a 1000 yard rusher or receiver this year. Their defense was 9th in scoring though, so they obviously have a pretty solid unit there.

Other notable seasons:

Philadelphia QB Ron Jaworski led the league in passing yards with 4777. He had a QB rating of 91.4 and threw for 28 touchdowns.

Dallas RB Tony Dorsett was the 2nd leading rusher in the league with 1690 yards and 7 touchdowns.

Philly WR Harold Carmichael was the leading receiver in the league with 1595 yards.

Arizona's Elois Grooms led the league with 18.5 sacks. St. Louis's Jack Youngblood had 17.5 on the year.

Detroit's James Hunter led the league with 12 interceptions.

Tampa Bay 31 – New York 24. With under a minute to play in a tie game, Bucs QB Doug Williams hits WR Theo Bell for a 77 yard touchdown strike and the upset victory.

Washington 36 – Green Bay 30. Green Bay fumbled the ball to open up the overtime period and Theisman threw the game winning touchdown pass as all 4 ROAD teams win in the first weekend of the playoffs.

1982 Playoffs

Divisional Round

Buffalo 34 – Tennessee 10. The Bills defense shut down Earl Campbell and Bills QB Matt Robinson picked apart the Titan defense for 3 touchdowns and a 132.2 QB rating.

Pittsburgh 20 – Cincinnati 13. In a defensive battle for most of the game, the Steelers had the more dominate running game and ground out a tough victory at home.

San Francisco 38 – Tampa Bay 17. The 49ers continue on their quest to repeat as champions. Joe Montana throws for 3 touchdowns and Jeff Moore runs for a pair of touchdowns in the route of the Bucs.

Atlanta 29 – Washington 16. The Falcons defense picked off Theismann twice today and the Redskins could not recover from those mistakes.

Conference Title Games

San Francisco 20 – Atlanta 16. The Falcons led 13-6 at halftime. A third quarter 49er touchdown gave them a 14-13 lead and then a 59 yard interception return by Eric Wright in the 4th quarter seeled the deal and the 49ers return to the Superbowl.

Pittsburgh 14 – Buffalo 13. Terry Bradshaw threw his second touchdown with 6 minutes left to play and the Steeler defense passed the test at the end of the game to preserve the 2 point win. The Steelers, arguably the best team in the regular season, will face the defending champs. Seems like the right two teams advanced to the Superbowl this year.

Superbowl XVII

San Francisco vs. Pittsburgh

Franco Harris could not be stopped on this day and Joe Montana had what seems like the worst game of his career. Harris ran wild for 186 yards and 2 touchdowns. Bradshaw threw for a couple more and the Steelers blow out the defending champs, 37-10. Montana was just 16 for 39 on the day with no touchdowns and 1 interception for a 41.4 QB rating. Ronnie Lot had an interception for the Niners, but that was the only bright spot on the day.

Superbowl MVP: RB Franco Harris

Free Agency: Notable Signings

WR Dwight Clark left San Francisco for the team that beat them in the Superbowl, Pittsburgh. He signed a small 1 year deal with the World Champion Steelers.

QB Jim Zorn signed a lucrative contract with the Tennessee Titans after a decent, but not spectacular year as the Seahawks QB. The Titans were in need of a quality QB though and took about the best guy they could find.

WR Mel Gray moved from Arizona to Cleveland and signed a new 2 year deal.

Denver inked QB Steve Grogan to a 1 year deal as a backup to Dave Preston, but some think that Grogan may have a shot to replace Preston, unless Denver drafts a QB.

Amateur Draft.

1)Jacksonville – QB John Elway. The first half dozen picks go to the 'expansion' teams and Jacksonville will build their offense around a tremendous talent in John Elway.

2)Baltimore – QB Dan Marino. Marino and Elway were the clear top 2 picks in the draft I think and Baltimore should be very happy here.

3)Houston – CB Albert Lewis. Lewis is clearly the top cover man in the draft. With the two high profile QB's gone, Houston went with the best player left in the draft.

4)Carolina – QB Ken O'Brien. Carolina passes up on a couple great DE's to get their QB.

5)Indianapolis – DE Richard Dent. The Colts are very pleased that Carolina passed up Dent.

6)Minnesota – WR Henry Ellard. A bit of a stretch maybe with some great defensive talent still on the board.

7)New Orleans – QB Tony Eason. Four QB's are gone in the top 7 picks, but the Saints got the most questionable of the bunch. A real surprise with Jim Kelly still on the board.

8)New England – DE Leonard Marshall. Very solid pick here for the Patriots.

9)Miami – QB Jim Kelly. All 5 of the big QB's are now off the board and we have not even reached the 10th pick yet.

10)Denver – DE Charles Mann. The Broncos were hoping for a QB to pick here, but with none left, they took the BPA.

11)Oakland – CB Ronnie Lippett

12)Kansas City – T Dave Lutz. One of 4 very good tackles in the draft. I am not sure Lutz will turn out to be the best though.

13)Philly – DE Toby Williams.

14)St Louis – RB Gary Anderson. One of three very nice looking backs.

15)Detroit – WR Willie Gault.

16)Chicago – RB Curt Warner. I guess they will groom him to replace Walter Payton at some point.

17)Cleveland – RB Roger Craig. A very nice steal this late in the first round.

18)Seattle – DT Mike Charles. May have been the BPA for the last 6 picks. A nice steal.

19)San Diego – CB Darrell Green.

20)Houston – LB Karl Mecklenburg

21)Arizona – CB Carl Lee.

22)Cincinnati – WR Mark Clayton.

23)Tampa Bay – S Leonard Smith

24)Buffalo – LB Johnny Rembert

25)New York Jets – LB Billy Ray Smith

26)New York Giants – S Dave Duerson

27)Green Bay – T Chris Hinton

28)Tennessee – DT Bill Pickel

29)Washington – CB Tim Lewis

30)Atlanta – TE Arthur Cox

31)San Francisco – RB Major Everett

32)Pittsburgh – CB Gil Byrd

Other notables:

#41 New England – DT Tim Krumrie

#53 Cincinnati – RB Eric Dickerson - a second round steal!

#57 New York Jets – DE Jim Jeffcoat

#61 Atlanta – T Mark Tuinei

#71 Minnesota – P Reggie Roby

#74 Denver – LB Darryl Talley

#114 Seattle – G Bruce Matthews

#120 Cincinnati – QB Todd Blackledge

1983 Regular Season

AFC

San Diego Chargers 13-3. Dan Fouts put together a career year, throwing for 4509 yards, 37 touchdowns and only 11 interceptions. His QB rating was 106.5. They had a running game by committee, but no single back even rushed for 900 yards and they only had 12 total rushing touchdowns. WR Wes Chandler put together an MVP type receiving season with 1535 yards and 16 touchdowns. The defense was also very good, ranked 2nd in points allowed at 13.9 per game.

Denver Broncos 12-4. They finished 2nd behind the Chargers in the division, but might be the 2nd best team in the AFC. Their QB situation is a mess and they ended up starting Tennessee retread John Reeves. He had an average year at best with a 80.3 QB rating and 15 touchdowns to 11 interceptions. RB Sammy Winder was the offensive star with 1398 yards running and 8 touchdowns. The defense carried this team though, leading the league in defense with only 12.7 points allowed per game. They were top 10 in just about every important category.

New Jersey Jets 11-5. The Jets earned a bye week in the playoffs. It was not through their passing game though. Pat Ryan struggled this year with 17 touchdown passes to 16 interceptions. RB Freeman McNeil was outstanding though, rushing for 1724 yards and 9 touchdowns. Mark Gastineau led the defense, tallying 16.5 sacks this year. The defense was the 4th ranked in the league.

Cincinnati Bengals 11-5. 13 year veteran QB Ken Anderson had a great year for the Bengals. He threw for 25 touchdowns and on 4 interceptions, an amazing ratio. Rookie RB Erik Dickerson had a very solid campaign in his first season, rushing for 1124 yards and 7 touchdowns. He did fumble 8 times, so he needs to tighten that up a bit. The defense was fairly solid with 2 guys, Glenn Cameron and Reggie Williams, both recording over 100 tackles.

Tennessee Titans 10-6. The running game, and Earl Campbell in particular, drove the Titan offense. Campbell ran for 1394 yards and 12 touchdowns. The passing game struggled a bit with Jim Zorn under center. He had a 88.5 QB rating, mainly thanks to the 26 touchdowns he threw, but the 14 picks to go with it was a little too much. The defense was middle of the pack in the NFL.

Pittsburgh Steelers 10-6. The defending champs snuck into the playoffs as a wildcard, thanks to winning the tiebreaker with Kansas City. Terry Bradshaw had a brilliant year, throwing for 3539 yards, and 28 touchdowns for a 100.6 QB rating. Franco Harris ran for 1213 and 12 touchdowns. WR John Stallworth had 1000 receiving yards and 7 touchdowns. LB Jack Lambert had 100 tackles, but the defense slipped quite a bit from last year's championship form. They were only the 14th ranked defense this season.

1983 Regular Season

NFC

Four teams finished with a 12-4 record. There is no one or two teams that stand out from the rest.

Atlanta Falcons 12-4. QB Steve Bartkowski led the Falcons to a division title and a bye week. He threw for over 4000 yards and 31 touchdowns. He spread the ball around very well too, 4 primary receivers all put up nice numbers this year. Second year pro RB Gerald Riggs rushed for over 1000 yards to keep the offense balanced. The Falcons had 12 rushing touchdowns on the season. The defense was only average though, but Jess Yeates had a very fine season at DE, racking up 13.5 sacks.

Arizona Cardinals 12-4. The Cardinals earned a bye week as well, mostly thanks to a well rounded defensive effort. They were the 5th ranked defense in the league. They were particularly good against the pass. Their run defense did tend to give up some big games. QB Neil Lomax was sufficient behind center, throwing for 25 touchdowns to 11 interceptions. He is on track to becoming a premier QB in just his third year. Pat Tilley was his favorite target, as he racked up 1462 yards and 10 touchdowns. Otis Anderson was the main running threat, as he rushed for 1075 yards and 8 touchdowns.

Washington Redskins 12-4. The Theismann to Art Monk combination continued to be a strong threat this year. Monk had 1339 yards and 10 touchdowns. Theismann threw for 3700 yards and 26 touchdowns, though his 14 interceptions was a bit of a cause for concern. Otis Wonsley rushed for 1402 yards and 13 touchdowns to prove to defenses that this was more than a passing team. Their defense had 2 DE's with over 10 sacks, Dexter Manley and Alvin Short. The defense was ranked 3rd overall.

San Francisco 49ers 12-4. The defending conference champs should not be counted out, although they had to settle for a wildcard spot. Montana was his usual self, throwing 25 touchdowns and over 3800 yards. Carl Bates was his favorite target as he racked up 843 yards and 6 touchdowns in a very balanced passing game. Rookie RB Major Everett just topped 1000 yards at 1009 and added 7 touchdowns. The defense remained a top 10 unit.

Seattle Seahawks 10-6. 3rd round pick, QB Babe Laufenberg had a sensational rookie campaign for the Seahawks. He started all 16 games and threw for 3097 yards, 19 touchdowns and only 3 interceptions for a 101.9 QB rating. They focused on the ground game and this led to great success for the Babe. It also helped to have Steve Largent catching passes. He had 1360 yards and 10 touchdowns. RB Sherman Smith had 1469 yards and 9 touchdowns. The defense was ranked 6th in the NFL. This could be a dangerous team in the playoffs if Laufenberg limits his mistakes, as he seemed to do in the regular season.

Green Bay Packers 8-8. The pack won a very weak division by going just 500 on the year. The poor record was no fault of QB Lynn Dickey who threw over 30 touchdown passes and had a QB rating over 100 as well. Jefferson and Lofton were both 1000 yard receivers this year. Their running game was in the bottom quarter of the league. Ezra Johnson had 13 sacks for a fairly bad defense as well. They were ranked just 24th.

Other notable performances this year.

QB Phil Simms for the New York Giants had an MVP type season. He was the highest rated QB with a 106.9 rating. He completed over 70% of his passes for 4129 yards, 32 touchdowns and 9 interceptions. His team fell short of the playoffs by a tiebreaker. Will that affect his MVP candidacy?

RB Walter Payton for the Bear ran for 1611 yards, 2nd best in the NFL. He also had 11 touchdowns.

Rookie performances.

QB John Elway, the #1 overall pick for the Jaguars, looks like he is going to be a great one. In his rookie campaign he threw for 3402 yards, 19 touchdowns and 11 interceptions. The Jags finished 6-10.

QB Dan Marino struggled in his rookie year and will need more time to develop than Elway, but still projects out very good. He threw for 3360 yards, 14 touchdowns, but also 20 interceptions. Baltimore finished 2-14.

Houston CB Albert Lewis had 4 interceptions and a touchdown return.

QB Ken O'Brien started 15 games for the Panthers and only threw for 2221 yards, 6 touchdowns and 11 interceptions.

Indy DE Richard Dent had 7.5 sacks and 9 hurries on the year.

WR Henry Ellard for Minnesota had 50 catches for 670 yards and 3 touchdowns.

Miami QB Jim Kelly threw 20 passes this year, all in mop up time. He looks like he might turn out to be a pretty big bust.

1983 Playoffs

Wildcard Weekend

Denver 13, Tennessee 0. All the scoring occurred in the first quarter. The Broncos completely shut down the Titans, although Earl Campbell did manage to grind out 102 yards for the Titans.

Cincinnati 31, Pittsburgh 20. The defending champs fall in the first round of the playoffs, on the road. Terry Bradshaw threw 2 costly interceptions in the game. Bengal RB Dexter Bussey ran for 125 yards and a touchdown. QB Ken Anderson threw 2 touchdowns and no interceptions.

San Francisco 17, Green Bay 7. Not a surprise here, as Green Bay really wasn't a playoff caliber team. Joe Montana threw a couple of touchdown passes and that was more than enough today.

Seattle 14, Washington 13. The only scoring in the 2nd half was a Washington field goal in the 4th quarter. Theismann threw 2 interceptions today and was out-gunned by the rookie Babe Laufenberg. Seattle RB carried the load for the Seahawks, rushing for 169 yards.

1983 Playoffs

Divisional Round

Cincinnati 27, New York Jets 3. Cincinnati goes on the road and looks as good as they did last week at home in knocking off the defending champs. Ken Anderson threw 3 first half touchdown passes to put the game away fairly early.

San Diego 23, Denver 10. The game was tied at 10 at half time and the second half was all Chargers. Dan Fouts threw for a total of 370 yards and a touchdown. Chuck Muncie ran one in for the Chargers.

San Francisco 34, Atlanta 28. The 49ers get some payback here as they beat the champs of their division when it counts the most. Atlanta's Steve Bartkowski was the best QB on the field today, as he threw for 221 yards and 2 touchdowns without an interception. Joe Montana proved human, but still got the win. He threw for 424 yards but no touchdowns and an interception. The real story of the game was rookie RB Major Everett. He ran for 5 touchdowns, including the game winner in overtime!

Arizona 20, Seattle 13. With under 3 minutes left in the game, Arizona RB Stump Mitchell broke the 13-13 tie with a 8 yard touchdown run. Ottis Anderson also ran for a touchdown for the Cardinals.

1983 Playoffs

Conference Championships

Cincinnati 20, San Diego 17. The Bengals need a fourth quarter comeback, but they are headed to the Superbowl after 3 playoffs wins, 2 on the road. Down 17-10 with 6:50 to play, Ken Anderson throws a touchdown pass and then Jim Breech kicks a field goal with 35 seconds left for the Bengals. Anderson threw 2 touchdowns with no interceptions, while Dan Fouts threw 2 picks for the heavy favorites.

Arizona 30, San Francisco 20. The game was a bit closer than the final score indicated. The game was actually tied with 2 minutes left. QB Neil Lomax threw the game winning touchdown with 1:56 on the clock. The late fieldgoal was an unnecessary play. Lomax threw 2 touchdowns on the day, while Montana threw two interceptions. A very disappointing playoffs for Montana. Ottis Anderson ran for 83 yards and a touchdown for the surprising NFC Champion Arizona Cardinals.

Superbowl XVIII

Cincinnati vs. Arizona

Arizona gets off to a quick start with a Neil Lomax 43 yard touchdown pass to Roy Green in the first quarter. The score stayed at 7-0 all the way to the fourth quarter. Early in the 4th, Ottis Anderson ran one in from 21 yards out to give the Cardinals a seemingly huge 14-0 lead in the 4th quarter of a game with little offense. Kenny Anderson led the Bengals downfield on the next series for a touchdown, and then again on their following possession. Two Cincinnati possessions, two Ken Anderson touchdowns and suddenly a 14-14 game. With time running down, Cincinnati had the ball again. With 6 second left, they line up for a field goal of 29 yards. Jim Breech kicks it and the Bengals win the Superbowl, 17-14!

Superbowl XVIII MVP: QB Ken Anderson, Cincinnati Bengals

Notable Free Agent Signings

DE Jeff Yates, who had 13.5 sacks for Atlanta last year moves to Buffalo on a new 2 year contract. This move will hurt the Falcons after their surprisingly successful season last year.

WR Dwight Clark has played for the 49ers and Steelers the last two years. Now he will move on to Chicago on another 1 year contract.

FB Mosi Tatupu stays with Pittsburgh in this free agency period.

The Amateur Draft

1)Carolina Panthers – WR Irving Fryer. Fryer was the clear best player available and the Panthers need help everywhere on the field, especially a target for Ken O'Brien.

2)Detroit Lions – QB Steve Young. A great pick. The Jeff Rutledge era in Detroit is thankfully over.

3)Baltimore Ravens – WR Louis Lipps. The Ravens had only 3 receivers on the roster as of the draft and none of them were even backup material. In a pretty week draft, any pick outside of the top 2 is going to be a crap shoot.

4)Houston Texans – WR Lionel Manuel. Three receivers in the top 4 picks is a bit unique.

5)Indianapolis Colts – CB Terry Taylor. One of two very good defensive players in the draft. A good pick and a steal at #5, in my opinion.

And the rest of a pretty mediocre draft:

6. Jacksonville - Jones, Sean, DE, Northeastern
7. Chicago - Campbell, Scott, QB, Purdue
8. Tampa Bay - Alt, John, T, Iowa
9. Cleveland - Fuller, Jeff, S, Texas A&M
10. Dallas - Banks, Carl, OLB, Michigan State
11. Minnesota - Marshall, Wilber, OLB, Florida
12. Miami - Hostetler, Jeff, QB, West Virginia
13. Chicago - Case, Scott, CB, Oklahoma
14. New England - Sanders, Ricky, WR, SW Texas St.
15. Philadelphia - Zimmerman, Gary, T, Oregon
16. Oakland - Schroeder, Jay, QB, UCLA
17. St. Louis - Jamieson, George, OLB, Cincinnati
18. Green Bay - Fuller, William, DE, North Carolina
19. New Orleans - Wonsley, George, RB, Mississippi State
20. Kansas City - Stankavage, Scott, QB, North Carolina
21. New York - Williams, Lee, DE, Bethune Cookman
22. Tennessee - Fairchild, Paul, G, Kansas
23. Pittsburgh - Scott, Chris, DE, Purdue
24. Seattle - Jennings, Stanford, RB, Furman
25. New Jersey - Meads, Johnny, OLB, Nicholls State
26. Houston - Roberts, William, G, Ohio State
27. Atlanta - Griffin, Keith, RB, Miami, Florida
28. Denver - McNanie, Sean, DE, Arizona
29. San Francisco - Johnson, Bobby, WR, Kansas
30. San Diego - Dorsey, John, ILB, Connecticut
31. Arizona - Geathers, Jumpy, DE, Small College
32. Cincinnati - Carreker, Alphonso, DE, Florida State
