Journey, Pearl Jam, and Kraftwerk.
Journey and Pearl Jam because I think they had enough hits, Kraftwerk because of their influence on electronic music. I personally enjoy The Zombies, The Cars, and Tupac more, but I don't think they had the longevity to really belong in a "Hall of Fame." |

I'm hoping for more than five to get in this year with so many nominees. However If I only have 5 to choose...
I would pick Pearl Jam Joan Baez Janet Jackson Yes Kraftwerk

Journey & Yes seem like the most obvious, ELO right there with them.
The Cars are an interesting case between HoF and Hall of Pretty Good Aside from that maybe Steppenwolf is the only worthy longshot.

Pearl Jam seems like the most obvious choice. Anyone that left them out care to elaborate why?

I agree they should be in and would be my 6th choice, I can even put them ahead of Tupac. I think they qualify for sheer number of hits, just like the legacy of Journey and Yes, the influence of Kraftwerk and Bad Brains and the impact and staying power if you will of Tupac, but again, I can easily drop him for PJ. |

Part of the worst decade of music in history. I wouldn't piss on the entire era if it were set ablaze.

If I'm just picking 5...
Bad Brains Depeche Mode Journey MC5 Yes Not really reflective of my individual tastes, but those seem like the big 5 in this bunch. I'm sure Pearl Jam Will get in from popularity, but I don't feel much influence from them. |

I think they're the most clear-cut entry on the list, but there will always be some haters. I think the best argument against them is they peaked with their first record and have been going downhill since. But Ten is an all-time great record with no filler, and both Vs. and Vitalogy have some very strong tracks. Things thin out after that, but you have to also account for their longevity and popularity.

Nine Inch Nails not getting in through its first two year of eligibility was surprising. Them not being even being nominated this year is downright weird.

Janet Jackson is a clear choice - very strong resume even if she hasn't been a big force in music for quite a while. The trio of Control, Rhythm Nation and janet is enough to cement her candidacy.
I think Yes is a good choice, though I'm more sympathetic to prog-rock than many. The Yes Album, Fragile, Close to the Edge and 90125 should get them in. Depeche Mode is an easy choice even if some have a distaste for euro synth-rock. They and New Order (who should be eligible by this point) deserve to be in. The Cars almost certainly deserve to get in. I'm not a big hip-hop/rap aficionado, but it seems like Tupac is an obvious entry. Kraftwerk probably gets in at some point due to their influence on music, though I'd say Brian Eno has an even better case. |

Bad Brains was a huge influence on punk rock and should be in the hall.
Pearl Jam has been going strong for all 25 years. They hit it big early and then proceeded to issue album after album of solid stuff. Their touring history has no comparable of the era. Who else jams for 3 hours with no openers and never has the same set list twice. The Cars were awesome in their time and are worthy. Journey is always solid and has had some staying power. Tupac was unreal when he was with us. Deserves to be in for his influence in the hip hop world and was a trailblazer on multiple levels, hard rap and heartfelt songs.

In this matter, I take & offer the advice of John Sinclair:
"Brothers and sisters, the time has come for each and every one of you to decide whether you are going to be the problem or you are going to be the solution! You must choose, brothers, you must choose. It takes five seconds, five seconds of decision, five seconds to realize your purpose here on the planet. It takes five seconds to realize that its time to move , it's time to get down with it. Brothers , it's time to testify. And I want to know - are you ready to testify? Are you ready?! I give you a testimonial: THE MC5
