Werewolf LXX Pleasure Cruise - (GAME OVER)
With Render's game seemingly likely to end soon (I'm basing that on my following of the game and nothing that he has said), its time to open up signups for the new game. I'll fill in the story, rules, etc as the day goes on today. Some importants that people will want to know to determine if they plan on signing up or not...
1) Schedule - We will start this game next Sunday evening. First day deadline will be on Monday later in the afternoon. There will be weekend play, however it will be slowed down play and conditional orders are always accepted. 2) Difficulty - This game will be similar to some of my past games such as Tombstone, Clash of the Gods and the Big City. If you are playing in the game, you will likely have some side duty, order or instruction to send in at some point in the game besides just voting. 3) Game clock - In order to not confuse days in terms of storytelling, this game will have a series of turns. Because of the interactions needed for certain pieces of this game a 24 hour clock will not be possible, however the traditional day/night phases have been replaced with a different idea in this game. There will be two turns per each 24 hours. The normal game play turn will exist from 11pm EST start until 3pm EST of the following day. The vote deadline for voting turns will be 3:00:59pm EST each day. a second phase will start at 3:01pm EST and end at 10:59pm EST each day. I will explain this secondary phase in the rule section that will be posted later. And as always conditional orders are allowed. ********************************************************** One thing that you have never done, yet always had said you wanted to experience was go on a pleasure cruise. Finally, one day a deal seemingly too good to be true falls in your lap, a very affordable Caribbean cruise for 7 days and 6 nights! On nothing more than an impulse, you call up the number and book a ticket with the Royal Lupine International Cruise Lines. The trip sounds outstanding, and beyond just being able to have great activities on board the ship such as Shows, nice dinners, casinos, a swimming pool, and various shiptop type games ; The listing of destinations along the way are top notch! Your itenerary for this trip: - Depart the port of Miami, Florida - Spend two sunny days in Cozumel, Mexico - Spend a day in George Town, Grand Cayman - Two beautiful days in Montego Bay, Jamaica - One final day in Labadee, Haiti before returning back to Miami What can be better than some fresh ocean air, and some warm sun to help you relax and forget about all of the worries of the every day life that you live?? Right???? Last edited by Alan T : 04-17-2008 at 03:59 PM. |

Storyline - You all have joined this cruise as an innocent bystander. One thing that is made clear however, is there is something wrong aboard this ship. Quickly after leaving the port of Miami, the first officer is found killed in his room. Also several million dollars has been reported stolen from the ship casino. The cruise management is torn in deciding what to do, but end up wishing to not make any of their customers unhappy, so they continue with the cruise. Over the course of this game, many of you may remain an innocent bystander, however some of you might have opportunities to become part of the ship crew, part of the dangerous underground or perhaps something even more "special".
----------------------------------------------------- GameTurns - Each 24 hours, there will be 2 turns, one a gameplay turn, and one an event reaction period. The traditional day/night turns have been replaced in this game with the single gameplay turn with a small twist. The event reaction period is an additional period that happens during the course of each 24 hours to allow players an opportunity to respond or provide choices to what events may happen to them. Gameplay Turns: Each 24 hour period, there will be one gameplay turn that occurs between 10:01pm EST and 3:00:59pm EST of the following day. The gameplay turn will require one of two responses from all players depending on the status of the ship at that point. Gameplay Turns where the ship is on the open seas between ports will behave like a normal werewolf game's traditional day period. Each person should post in the thread a vote for whom they think should get kicked off of the ship. Also each player should submit via PM to me what activity they would like to choose for the next port. Your choices will be given at the start of the gameplay turn, however some options might have limited availability and would be given out first come, first serve. Due to this, it probably is a good idea to submit a first choice, second choice and even third choice to me in the PM to ensure you get an activity that you would like. Anyone not choosing an activity will be assumed that you are choosing to remain aboard the ship at the next port. Gameplay Turns where the ship is at a port will not have a vote, but instead will be when you are able to partake in the particular activity that you had previously chosen. Bewarned however, that there might be some nefarious activity afoot! Just make sure you return to the ship before it leaves, so you do not get left behind! In locations where two consecutive days are spent in the same port, gameturns will act such as: Gameturn on ship with vote traveling to port -> Gameturn at port (with no vote) -> Gameturn on ship with vote (despite not traveling to a new location) -> Gameturn at same port (with no vote) -> Gameturn on ship traveling to new location with vote. I will post what type of gameturn it is at the start of each Gameturn to help make sure there is less confusion to what is expected of you each day. -------------------------------------------------- Roles - There is nothing randomly decided in this game, including roles. This will allow for alot more flexibility in fake reveals as the sky is the limit. However it might also make truthful reveals a bit more difficult to believe. Some of the traditional Werewolf game roles may be gained by players due to actions that they choose to take. Others may gain a role simply by being in the right or wrong place at a specific time. Other roles might actually come from items that can be found or passed around. In some cases an item is "incomplete" and you must find the other half of the item, or some missing component in order to complete it and gain a special role or action from it. ------------------------------------------------- Items - During the course of the game you may receive an item base don your actions or location. The item might allow you to posess a particular role or action, or it might be incomplete and needing the addition of another piece to complete the item. For each item, you will be given an action that you can take with the item, or in addition you can either drop the item, give the item to someone else or do nothing with it. If you choose to pass the item to another player, you should specify in PM to me which player you wish to pass the item to and that action occurs immediately with no possibility of undoing it. The player who receives the item will be told what item they are given, along with whom passed it to them. Money - Each of you have chosen to bring $500.00 (US Dollars) with you on the cruise. You may find various shops along the way that you would like to purchase something from, or other opportunities to use your money. For the purpose of simplifying the game, all prices for anything in any port will always be given in USD, even if the local currency might be something else normally in Real life. ------------------------------------------------- Votes - As there is not a vote each day, you might expect this game to occur at a slower pace. Expecting anything in this game might end up being a mistake on your part. When it is a gameturn that is a voting stage, you must post your Votes in the game thread. In order to make sure that it is counted and not missed, you should make it standout in your post by making it bold and in a paragraph by itself such as: Vote Alan T You may choose to unvote as well and vote for someone else such as: Unvote Alan T Vote Player2 The tiebreaker for votes is unannounced to start in this game, as is the determination for what is required to "win a vote" The only thing I will state in the rules is that getting votes for yourself is not in your best interests. All votes must occur during the appropriate gameplay turn or they are void and do not count. For scheduling issues where you simply can not be available during that gameplay turn, please PM me and we can work out some form of conditional vote that can be made. ---------------------------------------------------- Teams - There are theoretically two teams in this game. The underground, which can be considered the traditional "wolf" team, and then the passengers/crew team which can be considered the traditional "villager" team. That said, a member of the Cruise crew could be working for the underground and have a winning condition with the underground. There also may or may not be other third allegiances or individuals that do not exist on either team with special winning conditions during this game that are unannounced. The allegiance of each player is announced at their death. How they died or what roles or actions that they may or may not have posessed will not be announced, but might be learned by someone's actions during the game. ---------------------------------------------------- Winning Conditions - The passengers win if they either have elminiated all members of the Underground at the start of any gameturn starting gameturn 4 or later. The passengers also win if the cruise ship returns to Miami, Florida at the end of the cruise successfully. Be warned, that there might be those who slow down this return trip if given the opportunity however. The underrground wins if they manage to gain a 1:1 ratio with the remaining passengers. Any third party teams or individual players with independant victory conditions are not considered at all in the 1:1 ratio. ------------------------------------------------------------------ Event Response Turn - Each day between 3:01pm EST and 10:00pm EST there will be an event response turn. At the start of this turn you may or may not receive a PM with some event that has occured to you requiring some form of response or choice. During this turn, normal conversation can continue in this thread, including discussion of what events have occured to you and conversation about what choice you should make. Of course this conversation could influence other's decisions for either good or bad. If you are going to be unavailable during the entire event response turn and have absolutely no way to respond to me via PM, please let me know before noon EST before that Event Response turn so I can accomidate you appropriately. All events will come with a default choice or action in the case that I receive back no PM by the deadline. I would prefer however to work out any scheduling issues ahead of time if possible. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Contacting me - I usually respond to PMs here in a fairly timely fashion between 6am EST and midnight EST each day (while I am awake). If for whatever reason you need an answer ASAP or my PM box gets full, I will try to make sure to be on AIM each day during the game when possible. For people that I have not added to my AIM in past games, you will unfortunately need to drop me a PM ahead of time to let me know your AIM name so I can add you, otherwise I won't see any message from you. Alternatively any questions can also be emailed to me at dairnir AT gmail.com but please make sure to include werewolf in the subject line, so my wife doesn't think I have some girlfriend on the side. -------------------------------------------------- Other miscellaneous rules - Remember, no editing of your posts ever for any reason. If you wish to correct spelling, grammar or anything in your post, you should make a new post with the correction. (You can quote the previous post for context if you wish). You should not discuss this game with anyone else that currently is playing in any other forum other than this thread. Email, AIM, PM or other forms of communication should not be used unless explicitly told by me that you can do so. Please be courteous if you end up being removed from the game early due to being voted off or some form of kill. Unfortunately in this game, someone has to go and it usually is not personal. It could easily be seen as a compliment. There is a seperate thread that you can post in to gripe about an early kill if you wish. Please keep any spoilers out of that thread until the game is over though. I don't restrict people from posting in this thread once they are dead, but please try to avoid influencing the game or antagonizing players that are still left. The game of Werewolf can be quite heated at times and is a game of lies and deception. Heated verbal banter is expected at times, however please keep it game oriented and try to avoid making anything personal. I reserve the right to modify any of the game rules at any time if deemed necessary for the integrity of the game. If you have any concerns or receive any information that you feel was inappropriate or that you should not have received, please let me know privately so I can handle it as needed. Just for people with odd time zones, I am making this post at 2:38pm Eastern time. So the normal gameturn deadline would be about 20 minutes from now.

I'd love to play another Alan game (Big City has been my favourite game) but I'm not going to be around much until September (paternity leave) so I'll be reading along here and there.

Cronin, from what I've observed I think you could use a game where you aren't a wolf.
I'll give this one a go. |

Three games in a row, plus I think if you look at my last 10 its 7 or 8 out of 10 where I've been a wolf. Its a bad stretch, I really dislike being a wolf. |

It is tough to play when you are a wolf that consistently, as people begin to assume you are a wolf. Plus it is harder to "act normal" game in and game out when you haven't been a villager in awhile.
I think newcomers want to be the wolf. Guys who have played more, and gotten a chance at most of the roles, are just fine with being a boring villager. |

I enjoy being a wolf alot, but I understand what Cronin is going through. I had a stretch 2 years ago where I was a wolf 6 straight games. It got to the point where I was lynched day 1-3 every single game for a few months and it just became very un fun for me. You can't get too into a game and put alot of heart into it if you're likely going to be gone before it gets good. |

Sometimes not having a role allows you to really let it all go and get into the game. You aren't worried about risking the seer or bodyguard or some other role with a mistake in play. Its a very low risk, high reward situation. |

No, I really prefer vanilla villager. I've been the seer plenty of times, and its interesting, but there's a lot of pressure and you usually end up dead pretty early on. I've been the bodyguard I think only once, and I guess wouldn't mind that again - its a role I still don't really understand the best way to play it. |

There is a certain amount of freedom in playing as a normal villager. You don't hurt the team if you are killed early. Because of this, you can play a more aggressive game and not worry as much about the consequences. It is harder to do this as the seer, for example, because you worry about backlash for being wrong or for inadvertantly giving some kind of information to the opposition about your role.
Personally, I've never been Duke in a game. So there is a good chance I'll try and land that role in Alan's game if I can figure out a way to gain that position. |

I like being a wolf, but it seems I've been bad a little too much lately myself. Nice villager role would be just fine, thanks.

Yep! I am taking signups this week. I will take signups right up till I'm ready to start the game. Since I won't be sending out any role PMs, I'll just start the game on Sunday, with gameturn 0 ending Monday at 3pm EST. I had expected that Render's game would at least last until tonight, and with the post-game discussions around it, people would be itching for a new one Wednesday or THursday |

Short answer: because SkyDog said so
Medium answer: it is widely believed that some of the membership complained about the nature of posts in WW games compared to other threads. Posters would frequently post 100+ times in a single game of werewolf, which led to escalating post counts for a number of the regulars. Which was perceived as a problem, I guess. |

+1. The bigger the role the worse I play and the worse I feel. Path's still on my hate list for converting me. Although I punished him and the others by bombarding them with long-winded PMs and screwing things up so that's taught them. I've yet to play a game with st.cronin where he isn't a wolf so I'm interested in seeing what his normal play is as a villager. |

Heh - Narc, we should play a game as wolves together then. I think the most chatty wolf team I've had was Lathum + Barkeep in the Tombstone game. We had 30+ minute chat sessions every evening while we were all around for the first 4 days. |

Hoops left off an important point. SkyDog uses post count as a consideration when making modding decisions. Longtime posters, who make a contribution to the community, get more slack.

Looking back through my old gmail threads, a recent one in a game that Barkeep ran I had 394 emails (not counting I assume another 30-40 PMs). I don't remember who all was on that wolf team though, Claphasma, and some others.. (I'm bad with remember who's RL name/email address goes with who)
