14:07 - We are focused on playing a very slow, methodical tempo and rugged defense to try to beat Washington. So far, we are down 9-6.

12:59 - Dillard gets a 2nd foul on Bailey. We are down 11-6. They are going big.

11:03 - Vega gets hit with a BS second foul. That is huge as he has been big on both ends of the court. I bring in Abdur-Rahim. We are down 14-12.

8:45 - While we are slowing things down, we are running when it presents itself.. absolutely beautiful fast break with Abdur-Rahim getting the rebound, passing it to Farrell who passes it to Dillard who passes it to Dillard who takes a step and dunks it. Never touched the floor. We lead 20-16. They call time after the play. Farrell is very tired. I bring in Annen for him.

5:50 - We are on a 11-0 run and we've sucked all of the energy out of this building. We lead 27-16.

5:05 - They call time. We bring back Farrell and rest Kabba. We lead 29-16.

2:50 - Simon with a drive into the paint draws contact and gets the foul. He hits a FT to end the very long drought. We lead 32-18. We bring in Dawson, Farrell, Annen, Fuller, and Abdur-Rahim.

That wakes up their offense. They rattle off 6 quick points before Farrell makes a 3 to end their run.

Best defensive half of basketball that we have played all year. Great positioning every single time down the floor. I finally feel like they are playing up to their defensive ratings (98 defense as a team.)

Halftime: We lead 37-24.

Farrell is the player of the half with 14 points. He has shot 4 of 8, 4 of 7, and 2 of 2.

Dillard with 2 points, 4 assists, and great defense on Bailey.

Kabba with 5 points.

Stevens with 0 points and 5 boards. He is constantly harassing Hornsby (who still has 8 points to lead their team.)

Vega and Annen each have 6 points.

17:00 - Simon has hit a pair of 3's using screens and his quickness. He's their leading scorer with 13 now. We lead 39-30.

16:03 - Vega with his 3rd block of the day, starts the fastbreak, Farrell is fouled by Bailey. That is Bailey's 3rd foul. We lead 40-30.

13:08 - Vega picks up his 3rd foul. Farrell is tired. I bring in Annen and Abdur-Rahim. We lead 43-34.

9:05 - Hornsby draws a 3rd on Abdur-Rahim. We lead 46-41.

8:24 - Hornsby with another strong move. If he was a better FT shooter, they would be leading. As it is, we lead 46-42.

6:12 - Abdur-Rahim picks up his 4th foul on a strong move by Wise, who only has 2 points. I bring in Dawson, Farrell, Annen, Abdur-Rahim, and Vega. We lead 48-44.

4:02 - Dawson with a drive, kicks it out to Abdur-Rahim who swishes the 14 foot baseline shot! We lead 53-47.

Simon with a quick 3. He has 16 points.

Vega with a nice move in the paint to get 2. Abdur-Rahim with a steal to start the fastbreak by Annen. He is caught from behind and fouled by Simon. He makes 1 of 2 FT's. We lead 56-50 with 3 minutes to go.

Annen with good defense and Simon misses the quick 3.

Annen misses a 12 footer.

Simon off the screen.. Farrell helps out Annen and Farrell blocks the 3 point attempt!

1:30 - Vega gets an open look from 10 feet and makes it. We lead 58-50.

Bailey hits his first shot of the day, a quick 3.

Dawson has his shot at the buzzer blocked. We rush back on defense. Vega with his 4th block of the day on an interior basket by Hornsby. Annen collects the ball and is fouled.

We win the game 62-53! Best win of the year by a mile.

Farrell is the player of the game with 18 points, 2 boards, and a block. He shot 5 of 12, 5 of 9, and 3 of 4. He helped hold Simon to 5 of 14 shooting and 16 points.

Dillard with 5 points, 6 assists, and 2 turnovers. He helped hold Bailey to 3 points and 6 assists.

Kabba with 9 points and 2 steals. He held Hooks to 2 of 7 shooting.

Stevens with 0 points, 8 boards, and 2 assists. He shot 0 of 4. He held Hornsby to 6 of 14 shooting and 13 points. Hornsby was 1 of 8 from the line.

Vega with 10 points, 10 boards, 1 assist, and 4 blocks. He shot 5 of 9. He held Wise to 4 points.

Annen led the bench with 12 points, 2 assists, 2 steals, and a block. He shot 3 of 9.

Abdur-Rahim with 6 points, 6 boards, 2 assists, and a block.

Our next game is at 18-6 (8-4) #16 Stanford.

Great road win! We beat them 90-63! Vega led the way with 24 points, 8 boards, 2 assists, and 2 blocks.

Farrell with 12 points and 2 boards. He shot 3 of 7.

Dawson with 11 points and 6 assists off the bench. Annen with 10 points, 5 boards, and 2 blocks.

Kabba with 8 points. Dillard with 0 points and 3 assists. He's such an anomaly. He has the ability but doesn't produce consistently.

Badu with 4 points in just 3 minutes. Abdur-Rahim with 10 points and 6 boards.

We are now 18-6 (11-2) and we jump to #11 in the media poll and #5 in the Coaches' poll! I feel momentum building.

Our next game is hosting 14-8 (5-7) Arizona. We beat them 86-84 in a thriller at their place earlier in the year. Here is a repost of the summary of their lineup:

SR PG Kasey Pasco is starting in place of Pardon due to Pardon's injury. Pasco is 6'1 192 and rated 85 overall. He is an excellent 3 point shooter. He's averaging 11.8 ppg and 1.6 apg.

JR SG Harrison Wofford is 6'3 195 and is rated 82 overall. His best strength is his outside shooting. He's averaging 10.6 ppg and 1.9 apg.

JR SG Marty Gray is starting at SF. He is 6'4 207 and is rated 81 overall. His strengths are his defense and midrange shooting. He's averaging 7.3 ppg, 2.3 apg, and 1.7 spg.

SO PF Lyle Cole is 6'6 227 and is rated 76 overall. He's averaging 5.4 ppg, 3.9 rpg, and 1.5 bpg.

FR PF Michael Castillo is starting at C due to the injury to Neverett. He's 6'10 244 and is rated 71 overall. He's averaging 2.3 ppg and 1.6 rpg.

They have absolutely zero size on the bench. No one over 6'5.

SR PG Stefan Pardon is 6'0 199 and is rated 85 overall. He was starting before this recent ankle injury. He's averaging 11.6 ppg and 3.5 apg.

JR SG Gavin Boatner is 6'0 170 and is rated 79 overall. His strength is his quickness. He's averaging 6.7 ppg and 1.1 apg.

FR PG Jeff Yates is 6'3 192 and is rated76 overall. He's averaging 2.9 ppg and 1.2 apg.

The rest of their bench is rated in the low 70's.

The only difference is that Pardon is healthy but he is still coming off the bench. Both teams are 100% healthy. I'll play them later today.

Edit: The other difference is that Neveritt is back to 100% healthy and starting. My brand new TV just got delivered and it's only fitting this be the first game played on it.

15:23 - Kabba has started off very well with 8 points and a block of a 3 attempt. We lead 12-4.

14:50 - Vega gets a 2nd foul on Neverett. They bring in Castillo.

11:25 - Kabba with a long 3. They call time out. We lead 22-10.

9:00 - Everything is clicking. We lead 29-10. They call another T.O. Our crowd is going nuts.

Pasco hits a 3 to end our run.

5:00 - We lead 40-16. I decide to rest all of my starters. We bring in Dawson, Badu, Annen, Fuller, and Abdur-Rahim.

Halftime: We lead 55-28.

Farrell is the player of the half with 18 points, 1 board, 1 assist, and 1 steal. He shot 7 of 10 in the ifrst half.

Kabba with 15 points. Annen with 12.

Pasco leads them with 6.

15:00 - I tell my guys to slow down the attacking pace. We are up 68-33.

9:49 - Time to go the bench. We lead 74-38.

We win the game 92-60.

Kabba is the player of the game with 19 points, 4 boards, 2 assists, 1 steal, and 1 block. He shot 8 of 10, 1 of 2, and 2 of 2.

Farrell with 20 points, 3 boards, 1 assist, and 1 steal. He shot 8 of 13, 4 of 8, and 0 of 0.

Dillard with 3 points, 5 boards, 6 assists, and 3 steals. 0 Turnovers. He shot 1 of 2.

Stevens with 4 points, 9 boards, 4 assists, 1 steal, and 1 block. He shot 1 of 5.

Vega with 10 points, 11 boards, 3 assists, 1 steal, and 1 block. He shot 4 of 11.

Annen led the bench with 20 points, 3 boards, 1 steal, and 1 block. He shot 7 of 12.

Dawson with 3 points and 4 assists in 14 minutes.

Fuller with 7 points, 6 boards, and 3 assists. A very productive 14 minutes off the bench for him that will lead to more PT in the future.

Badu with 6 points, 3 assists, and 1 board in 14 minutes.

Abdur-Rahim with 0 points, 4 boards, and 2 blocks in his 14 minutes.

Next up, we host WSU. They are 17-7 (5-7.) They upset us 87-77 at their place in an earlier simmed game. Will they sweep us?

Nope! Our team is clicking in every game now. We beat them 112-60 (highest score my team has ever scored in a simmed game.. maybe the highest in any game?)

Annen led the team with 16 points, 8 boards, 1 steal, and 1 block. hE shot 4 of 9.

Every starter in double digits: Dillard with 11 points and 9 assists. Farrell with 11 points and 5 assists. He shot 4 of 8.

Kabba with 14 points, 8 boards, and 3 blocks. He shot 4 of 6.

Stevens with 11 points, 7 boards, and 3 blocks. He shot 2 of 5, but 7 of 10 from the line. Vega with 14 points, 4 boards, and 2 blocks. He shot 4 o f 10.

Dawson with 9 points and 6 assists off the bench. Abdur-Rahim with 13 points, 5 boards, and 2 blocks.

We are now 20-6 (13-2) and we are 6th in the media poll and and 3rd in the coaches' poll. The Coaches' poll seems to play more emphasis on team talent ratings. Let's look at their top 10 with talent ratings:

1. DePaul (26-1), 95 overall rating.
2. Washington 22-3, 95 overall rating.
3. USC 20-6, 95 overall rating
4. Providence 23-4, 91
5. Texas A&M 19-5, 94
6. Fordham 23-3, 91
7. Cal 19-6, 94
8. Kansas 21-3, 92
9. Texas Tech 17-6, 93
10. Florida 23-3, 94

We have just 3 regular season games left. Next up is a game at Oregon. They are 14-11 (5-9.) They have 4 guys who are playing with minor injuries. We beat them 82-61 at our place earlier in the year.

SO PG Randall Luna is 5'10 172 and is rated 79 overall. He's a very good 3 point shooter and a reliable passer. He's averaging 13.9 ppg, 5.2 apg, and 1.8 spg.

SO SG Bob Swanson is 6'6 191 and is rated 84 overall. He's one of the top 5 3 point shooters in the country but that is his only great offensive weapon. He has no real weaknesses. He's averaging 8.6 ppg, 3.4 rpg, and 2.7 apg.

SR SF Brennan Forney has a broken finger. He's 6'7 194 and is rated 83 overall. He's normally a very good shooter, but his offense has been bothered all year by injuries. He's averaging 7.4 ppg.

SR PF Earnest Saunders is their only physical presence on the team. He'll play center for them mostly. He's 6'9 252 and is rated 81 overall. He's averaging 12.9 ppg, 5.5 rpg, and 1.4 bpg.

SO PF Alton Lloyd will play most of the time at PF for them. He's 6'8 206 and is rated 81 overall. He's averaging 8.5 ppg, 5.3 rpg, and 1.9 bpg. He has great hops and blocking instincts.

The bench is led by JR SG Ian Stapleton who is 6'5 187 and is rated 81 overall. He's a good slashing guard who provides some solid perimeter defense. He's averaging 7.2 ppg and 3.8 rpg.

SO SG Perry Jansen plays a lot of 3 and even some 4 for them. He's 6'7 240 and is rated 79 overall. He has excellent speed and quickness for his size. His shooting is supect, but his defense is rock solid. He's averaging 5.0 ppg, 3.2 rpg, and 1.2 bpg.

The rest of their bench is all banged up with minor injuries. Most of them are rated in the low to mid 70's.

I'll play them later.

14:02 - We are up 14-10. Swanson has all 10 of their points.

Farrell misses a 3 and then Swanson shoots a 3 over Farrell despite good defense.

11:40 - Swanson with another 3 to tie it at 16.

10:20 - Dillard gets a 2nd foul on Luna. We lead 20-16. I bring in Abdur-Rahim for Stevens.

8:15 - Dawson and Annen in for Dillard and Farrell. We lead 25-19.

4:15 - Vega is tiring, but he keeps hitting all of his shots. I keep him in. I bring back Farrell and rest Kabba with Annen at SF. We lead 29-21 as Vega has our last 6 points.

Farrell hits a 3 as the half expires.

Halftime: We lead 40-29.

Swanson is keeping them in it with 20 and he is the player of the half in my opinion.

Farrell with 10 points, 1 board, and 2 assists. He has shot 4 of 8.

Vega with 10 points, 3 boards, and 1 assist. Dillard and Annen each have 6 points.

16:00 - Playing the entire first half has drained Vega. I rest him and bring in Abdur-Rahim. We lead 44-34.

8:44 - We lead 54-40. Great defense from that group. I bring in Dawson, Annen, and Vega. We keep Kabba and Abdur-Rahim in the game.

6:02 - They finally end our 18-0 run when Saunders draws a foul inside. . We lead 62-42.

2:00 - I call time to get the end of my bench into the game. We lead 66-46. Cox, Badu, Annen, Fuller, and English into the game.

17 seconds - Cox goes down from non-contact. It looks like his knee is hurt badly. Poor kid.

We win the game 66-51.

Vega was the player of the game with 14 points, 9 boards, 1 assist, and 1 steal. He shot 6 of 10, 0 of 1 (what was he thinking?) and 2 of 3.

Dillard with 8 points, 5 assists, 3 steals, and 0 turnovers. He shot 3 of 7.

Farrell with 13 points, 2 boards, 3 assists, and 3 steals. He shot 5 of 10, 3 of 6, and 0 of 0.

Kabba with 11 points, 5 boards, and 1 assist. He shot 4 of 7.

Stevens with 4 points, 2 boards, 1 assist, and 1 steal. He shot 2 of 5.

Abdur-Rahim with 8 points, 4 boards, and 2 blocks in 25 minutes.

Dawson with 0 points, 7 assists, and 1 steal in 15 minutes.

Annen with 8 points, 2 boards, 1 steal, and 1 block in 19 minutes.

Swanson finished with 21 points as Farrell did a better job in the 2nd half and Annen really shut him down.

March 1, 2036 -

Next up is a game at ASU. They are 12-13. We beat them 92-77 earlier in the year.

Dillard shuts down Walton and Farrell shuts down Sessoms as we win 82-60.

Annen was our leading scorer with 20 points, 8 boards, 4 assists, and 1 block. He shot 5 of 8 in 24 minutes.

Dillard with 7 points and 4 assists. Dillard was hurt in the game with a strained groin muscle. He'll be available but far less than 100% for 2-3 weeks.

Farrell with 15 points and 2 assists. he shot 4 of 7.

Kabba with 9 points. Stevens with 4 points. Vega with 6 points, 8 boards, and 4 blocks.

Dawson with 7 points and 4 assists off the bench. Badu with 4 points in 4 minutes.

We are now 22-6 and still 6th in the media poll. I've played out 1 extra game due to UCLA and with no need to sim 1 extra game to make the tourney, I'll sim out this last game of the regular season (but play all of my tourney games.)

Mar 8, 2036 -

Our last game of the regular season is at #5 Cal. They are 21-6. I'm starting Dawson due to Dillard's injury.

We beat them 94-89!

Dawson thrives in his first start of his career with 20 points, 2 boards, and 6 assists. He shot 7 of 11.

Vega with 16 points, 9 boards, 3 blocks. He shot 6 of 9.

Farrell with 10 points and 3 assists. Kabba with 11 points and 5 assists. Stevens with 7 points and 4 boards.

Annen led the bench with 9 points. Abdur-Rahim with 6 points and 3 boards. Badu with 7 points and 2 assists in just 6 minutes. Next year, he'll be ready to explode I think.

We are now 23-6 and 4th in the media poll. We are 3rd in the coaches' poll. Washington is #2 in both polls.

In the Mid-Major poll, Siena is #1. Niagara has fallen off the landscape for now.

We've won the Pac-10 Regular Season Title again! Here are the final standings:

1. USC 23-6 (16-2)
2. Washington 24-4 (14-4)
3. Cal 21-7 (11-7)
4. Oregon State 17-13 (9-9)
5. Stanford 19-11 (9-9)
6. ASU 13-15 (7-11)
7. Arizona 16-12 (7-11)
8. Oregon 15-14 (6-12)
9. WSU 18-12 (6-12)
10. UCLA 12-18 (5-13)

Our first game in the Pac-10 Tourney is against Oregon. We just beat them 66-51 (but it displays as a 71-63 win on the screen - uh-oh, I read about this bug just the other day in a College Hoops thread. I hope it's not going to keep reappearing and is just a 1 time thing.) We also beat them earlier in the year 82-61.

I'll play them again later today.

A look at our roster now that the season has progressed:

SR PG Jerald Dillard is up to a 93 rating. He'll be slowed for another 1-2 weeks. He should have every skill to dominate in the tourney. He's one of the fastest guards in the country when healthy. He's a very good ball handler, a good passer, and a good shooter. His stealing ability is elite. Despite all of these abilities, he's only averaging 7.6 ppg, 3.7 apg, 2.5 rpg, and 1.6 spg this year.

JR SF Lucious Kabba is now rated 88 overall. His midrange game is his most lethal weapon followed by his dunking. Defensively, he is very good and he has great quickness and speed as well as nice strength for his position. He's averaging 11.5 ppg, 3.9 rpg, and 1.3 spg. There is talk among NBA scouts that he could come out early and be a 1st round pick.

JR PG Antone Dawson is 6'1 193 and is now up to a 88 rating. His passing is at an elite level and he is clearly the best passer on our team. His defense is top notch as well now. His midrange game is incredible even though he rarely uses it. He's averaging 5.0 ppg, 2.7 apg, and 16.9 mpg. Despite his limited minutes and production, scouts are talking about him being a mid 1st round pick if he comes out now.

SO SF Leo Annen is up to a 86 rating. Tremendous quickness and speed for his size. He's the most electric finisher on the team. His defense is his most improved attribute. He's averaging 9.9 ppg, 3.2 rpg, and 0.7 bpg.

JR C Olu Vega is 7'1 259 and is rated 84 overall. His rebounding is his most improved rating. He's also developed his left hand in the post. As a result, he has career highs in almost every category: 12.6 ppg, 7.0 rpg, 1.6 apg, and 1.6 bpg.

SO C Abdur-Rahim has improved in so many important areas. He's now rated 84 overall as well. He's faster than Vega and is much better at putting it on the floor. His post game is also better. If Vega leaves, I don't think we'll miss a beat at C next year. He's averaging 6.4 ppg, 4.1 rpg, 0.4 bpg, and 17.9 mpg.

SO PF Desmond Stevens is now rated 83 overall. While he isn't shooting consistently, when he is on, we are almost unstoppable. He's averaging 5.2 ppg, 5.9 rpg, 1.7 spg, and 0.7 bpg. His strength is his leaping ability and his quick hands.

SO PF A.C. Fuller is now rated 83 overall as well. He has the most refined post game of any player on our team, but his post defense is the weakest of our big men. Still, if we are struggling offensively, I need to remember to put him into the game. He's averaging 2.4 ppg, 1.3 rpg, and 5.4 mpg.

SO SG Arzelle Farrell is now rated 82 overall. He's really rounding out his game nicely. His 3 point shooting is up to a 93 rating. His defense is now a very respectable 85. His length helps add to that. His post up ratings have improved considerably. He's also very quick. He's averaging 15.6 ppg, 2.3 apg, and 1.2 rpg.

FR PG Marcellus Badu has shown the most growth of any player on my team. He is now 6'5 204 and is rated 79 overall, a 4 point increase from when he arrived on campus. His biggest improvements are in awareness, but he has improved every facet of his game considerably. His defense is going to be one of the best ever among my players when he is done, I suspect. He's averaging 3.3 ppg, 1.4 apg, 6.4 mpg.

RS FR Kody Hehn is also doing a great job growing during his redshirt year. He is now rated 78 overall.

RS FR Devon Kilgore is now rated 77 overall.

Walk-on RS SO PG Domonic Cox is now rated 74 overall. We have two other walk-ons who are in the 50's and will never see the court.

6. Fordham 23-3, 91
7. Cal 19-6, 94
8. Kansas 21-3, 92
9. Texas Tech 17-6, 93
10. Florida 23-3, 94

This is definitely the case in real life as well.

Agreed. It also explains why I had so much trouble breaking into the Coaches' poll way back in the early days when I was at Niagara.

15:46 - Kabba gets a 2nd foul on Lloyd. We lead 8-5.

11:23 - Kabba and Vega are the only scorers so far. They are feeding off each other. Kabba with 11 and Vega with 8. We lead 19-13.

Interesting, I just noticed I have 3 Coaches on the Floor now (4 if Dillard was in there) including my young COF ever, Desmond Stevens. He's such an intelligent player out there who really does a great job of positioning for rebounds.

Swanson is being a distributor this half.

6:40 - We lead 27-18. All of my starters are tired. I rest them all going with Dillard, Badu, Annen, Fuller, and Abdur-Rahim.

5:04 - Badu gets a 2nd foul on Swanson. We lead 29-20.

Dillard is moving very slow with his injury. Definitely the right move not to start him.

Abdur-Rahim with a rebound, long pass to Badu who lobs it to Annen for a dunk just before the half.

Halftime: We lead 39-25.

Kabba is the player of the half with 13 points and 2 assists.

Vega with 12 points, 6 boards, and 2 assists. Annen with 6.

Forney is their leading scorer with 5. Swanson has 4 assists to lead their team.

15:00 - We lead 50-32. The Trojan component of this crowd at the Staples Center is going crazy.

6:30 - I pull my starters with the game in hand. We lead 73-48. Dawson had a brilliant half. He did a great job of setting up Kabba in his favorite spots over and over again. Maybe, I've underestimated how important a high pass rating is?

We go with Badu, Cox, Annen, Fuller, and Abdur-Rahim. I'll them to slow the tempo down.

We win the game 89-58 as my guys just couldn't resist a few running opportunities in the last few minutes.

Kabba with a career high 33 points. He also had 2 boards and 1 assist. He shot 10 of 15, 6 of 8 (mostly wide open looks thanks to great drive and dishes by Dawson), and 7 of 8.

Dawson with 2 points and a career high 11 assists.

Farrell with 6 points and 2 assists. He shot 3 of 9 and 0 of 5 from the arc. Dawson got him good looks and he just wasn't hitting them tonight.

Stevens with 2 points, 10 boards, 1 assist, and 2 blocks.

Vega with 18 points, 13 boards, and 2 blocks. He shot 5 of 12 and 8 of 10 from the line.

Annen with 14 points, 2 boards, and 2 assists.

Fuller with 6 points, 3 boards, and 2 assists in 13 minutes.

Badu with 6 points, 2 assists, and 1 steal in 13 minutes.

Dillard with no stats collected in 7 minutes.

Our next game will be against Oregon State. They beat Stanford 63-57 to advance to play us. We beat them 83-68 at our place and 70-66 at their place. We are now on a 13 game winning streak.

Oregon State's starting PF and backup SG are both less than 100%. They rely heavily on their SR PG:

SR PG Mitch Hipsher is the only star on the team. He's 6'2 188 and is rated 87 overall. He's electric with the ball. Great passer, great speed, and a good shooter. If he had more weapons around him, he would be all-conference. He's averaging 15 ppg and 4.1 apg despite the lack of great weapons around him.

SR PG/SG Wilson Wisniewski is starting at SG tonight. He's 6'3 204 and is rated 79 overall. He's averaging 7.2 ppg and 3.0 apg. His strength is his midrange game.

JR SG Artur Soto is battling a hamstring injury but will start at SF. He's their only real option on the team for that position. He's 6'6 210 and is rated 75 overall. His best attribute is his post up play. He's averaging 7.1 ppg.

SO PF Ernesto Nutter is 6'8 225 and is rated 72 overall. He's battling a sprained ankle but will start. He is a very weak defender. Offensively, he isn't terrible. He's averaging 7.8 ppg and 6.4 rpg.

JR C Jacoby Salazar has size going for him at 7'2 279. He's rated 72 overall. He's a slow plodding center who can muscle guys around in the paint, but has a very raw offensive game. He's averaging 5.4 ppg, 3.5 rpg, 1.1 bpg, and 15.9 mpg as he tends to get in foul trouble.

The bench is led by JR PG Dawan Millage who is 6'1 187 and is rated 78 overall. He's a good 3 point shooter. He's averaging 9 ppg and 1.4 apg.

FR C Nehemiah Carney is their only other talented bench player. He's 6'10 234 and is rated 73 overall. He's a bit quicker than their starter and has a better post game. Defensively, he is very weak. He's averaging 6.5 ppg and 5.2 rpg.

JR C Boyd Allen is the only other player worth discussing in detail. He's 7'1 229 and is rated 67 overall. He's actually the most athletic of their 3 centers, but he has horrible hands, can't shoot, and can't defend well. He's averaging 3.3 ppg, 1.4 rpg, and 8.6 mpg.

The rest of their bench is rated in the low 60's.

16:30 - Vega gets a 2nd foul on Salazar. We are down 8-5.

15:33 - Vega gets a 2nd foul on Carney. We are down 10-9.

13:17 - Hipsher with a drive to get a 2nd foul on Vega. We are tied at 14. Abdur-Rahim into the game.

8:29 - Dawson gets a 2nd foul on Hipsher. We are up 23-21.

8:09 - Abdur-Rahim gets a 2nd foul on Allen.

6:18 - I get the entire 2nd unit out there to rest the starters. We are up 29-25.

Dillard hits a quick jumper on a good pass by Badu. Then, Dillard gets beat easily by their PG for an easy 2.

4:43 - Abdur-Rahim picks up his 2nd foul. I bring in the walk-on Daune English (who is rated 77 overall and is by far my best walk-on in a while.) We lead 31-29.

Halftime: We lead 38-35. I didn't expect such a close game.

Kabba is the player of the game with 11 points and 3 boards. He's not shooting as well from the arc as he did last game, but he's still making some things happen.

Dawson with 5 assists. Farrell and Stevens with 5 points each.

Hipsher leads them with 11 points. Millage has 9 points for them. Wisniewski with 7.

19:34 - Dawson drives into the lane (with the help of a screen) and gets a 3rd foul on Salazar.

17:40 - Farrell drives and draws a 3rd foul on Carney. We lead 44-38.

16:30 - Vega with a board.. passes to halfcourt to Dawson.. 3-on-1 fastbreak.. Dawson fakes right and throws a perfect lob to Kabba who dunks it home with style. We lead 48-38.

14:09 - Wisniewski ends our run with a FT. We lead 48-39.

8:46 - Lots of time outs are allowing my guys to stay rested and in the game. We lead 64-46. Much better defense this half.

8:27 - Vega gets a 4th foul on Salazar.

6:18 - A perfect 2:30 minute 12-0 run as we got out on the fast break 3 times and hit a pair of 3's. Vega and Farrell each with a block during the run. I pull my starters with a 76-46 lead.

2:32 - Ouch. Soto collides with Abdur-Rahim and it felt like I could hear the crack of Soto's bones in his leg. He has to be carried off the court. We lead 80-61.

We win the game 83-65.

Kabba is the player of the game with 22 points, 4 boards, 1 assist, 1 steal, and 1 block. He shot 7 of 15, 2 of 6, and 6 of 7.

Dawson with a new career high 14 assists! If he keeps playing like this, he's going to hold the job even when Dillard is back to full health. He also had 5 points, 1 board, 1 steal, and 1 turnover. He shot 1 of 4.

Farrell with 15 points, 2 boards, 1 assist, 4 steals (his length was great on the full court trap), and 2 blocks. He shot 5 of 12, 3 of 6, and 2 of 2.

Stevens with 10 points, 11 boards, and 1 block. He shot 4 of 4 and 2 of 5 from the line.

Vega with 13 points, 10 boards, 2 assists, 1 steal, and 1 block. He shot 4 of 8 and 5 of 8 from the line.

Annen led the bench with 8 points. Dilllard with 2 points, 1 assist, and 4 turnovers in 13 minutes. His hampered mobility is really hurting him.

Fuller with 3 points, 5 boards, and a block.

Soto suffered a fracture in his leg, but did not tear any ligaments. He'll be able to play next year for Oregon state.

At 25-6, we are #4 in the media and #3 in the Coaches' poll. We'll be facing Cal in the Pac-10 Tourney Final. They are #6 in the Media poll and #4 in the Coaches' poll. They beat UCLA 78-49 in the other Semi-Final game.

While we have Dillard hurt, they are in worse shape with Stevenson being out for 2-3 more weeks with a separated shoulder. Hiram Starks also is hurt with a broken finger.

A look at their top players' ratings now:

SR SG Roscoe Hoskin is 6'4 211 and is rated 90 overall. He's averaging 16.5 ppg, 3.6 rpg, and 2.5 apg.

SR SF Kalu Stevenson is 6'7 229 and is rated 90 overall as well. He was averaging 10.2 ppg, 5.0 rpg, 2.1 apg, 1.6 spg, and 1.5 bpg. They will definitely miss his presence.

JR PF Brooks Parham is 6'9 223 and is rated 86 overall. He's averaging 14.2 ppg, 5.9 rpg, and 1.3 apg.

SR SG Damon Thomasson is 6'3 198 and is rated 85 overall. He's averaging 9.8 ppg.

JR PG T.R. Garrity is 6'3 198 and is rated 85 overall. He's averaging 8.0 ppg and 6.3 apg.

SR SG Hiram Starks is 6'2 183 and is rated 84 overall. He's averaging 5 ppg and 11.7 mpg.

JR PG Lodrick Lyons is 6'1 195 and is rated 82 overall. He's only playing a few minutes per game and is averaging 1.7 ppg and 1.7 apg.

SR PF Sidiki Giddens has seen his time cut way down this year. He's 6'9 270 and is rated 81 overall but he is only playing 8 mpg. He's averaging 2.9 ppg and 2.0 rpg.

JR SF Kelly McCurry is 6'5 210 and is rated 81 overall. He's averaging 8 mpg and 3 ppg.

The rest of their bench is rated in the high 70's including stud freshman C Jibran Delgado who is 7'2 243 and is rated 79 overall. He's averaging 5.4 ppg, 3.4 rpg, 1.6 bpg in only 23 mpg.

I'll play them later.

15:19 - Both teams come out tight offensively and with some good defense. We are tied at 2 as Vega draws a 2nd foul on Delgado. They bring in Giddens.

12:00 - I can't believe this. We are down 4-2. Never seen this bad of offense or this good of defense... I rest Farrell and put in Annen.

8:33 - Dawson and Vega are tired and both defenses are breaking down more now. We are down 12-9 as I bring in Badu and Abdur-Rahim.

6:00 - Annen with a strong drive gets a 2nd foul on Garrity. He hits a FT to end their run. We are down 18-10.

3:21 - We are down 22-12. I go with Dawson, Farrell, Annen, Abdur-Rahim, and Vega to finish the half.

Some great defense from my team and we get a few transition baskets off it.

Halftime: We are down 24-20.

We are shooting 25% from the field. They are shooting 34%.

Thomasson is the player of the half with 5 points and 3 assists off the bench.

Kabba and Annen lead us with 5 points. Abdur-Rahim with 4 points and 7 boards. Vega with 4 points and 4 boards.

17:21 - Farrell fouls Hoskin on a 3 point attempt. Dawson is doing a better job of getting the ball into the paint to Vega. We are down 28-24 after he makes 2 of the 3 FT's.

16:29 - Dawson gets a 3rd foul on Garrity. We are down 28-26.

16:01 - Dawson with a steal and breakaway dunk to tie it at 28.

12:57 - McCurry with a pair of 3's to give them a 38-31 lead.

10:12 - We are down 42-33 as I bring in Badu and Annen for Dawson and Kabba.

6:56 - We need offense now. I put in Badu, Annen, Kabba, Fuller, and Abdur-Rahim. We are down 46-39.

Starks hits a 3 over Kabba.

Abdur-Rahim with a tough interior basket and the foul. Giddens goes down from the collision and appears to be hurt. Abdur-Rahim completes the 3 point play.

Kabba with a block that starts our fastbreak.. Badu is fouled from behind. He makes the pair of FT's. 49-44.

5:03 - Annen with a drive gets a 4th foul on Parham. We are down 51-46.

Annen hits a 3, but gets beat badly by Hoskin who hits a 3 at the other end.

3:36 - We are down 56-51. I bring back Dawson. Vega and Stevens will be back in a minute.

Parham with a hook shot for 2.

Kabba has it stolen and Hoskin hits a pull-up 3. Down 61-51.

Abdur-Rahim draws a foul and makes a pair of FT's. 2:15 left.

2:11 - They call time. We bring back Vega and Stevens. Down 61-53.

We get a defensive stop. Kabba with a wild out of control layup attempt on the secondary fastbreak.. he misses it.

Starks draws a foul on Kabba.

Vega with a quick 2. We are down 62-55. We try to trap.. we have them.. they call time.

Thomasson with a beautiful pass to Parham on the backdoor cut. That should finish us off. So ends our winning streak..

We lose the game 66-57.

Hoskin is the palyer of the game with 10 points, 9 assists, and 3 steals. He shot 3 of 11. Parham also had 10 points for them on 5 of 10 shooting.

Dawson with 5 points, 3 assists, 1 steal, and 3 turnovers. He shot 2 of 7.

Farrell with 0 points, 1 board, 1 assist, and 1 steal. He shot 0 of 9.

Kabba with 7 points, 4 boards, 1 assist, 1 steal, and 2 blocks. He shot 2 of 8.

Stevens with 4 points, 7 boards, and 1 steal. He shot 1 of 6.

Vega with 10 points, 8 boards, and 1 assist. He shot 4 of 9.

Annen with 18 points, 3 boards, 1 assist, and 1 steal in 22 minutes. He shot 4 of 9, 2 of 4, and 8 of 10.

Abdur-Rahim with 9 points, 7 boards, and 1 assist. He shot 3 of 5.

Badu with 4 points, 3 assist, and 1 turnover in 12 minutes.

Time for the tourney selection show. I imagine that loss cost us our #1 seed..

First the 4 #1's are announced:

DePaul, Providence, Washington, and ... USC! I can't believe we got it over Cal. We are in the Mid-West.

Interesting East Matchups:

#8 Temple (24-9) vs #9 LSU (19-11)
#6 North Carolina (20-10) vs #11 Syracuse (18-12)

Interesting West Matchups:

#7 Minnesota (24-10) vs #10 UConn (21-11)

Cal is a 2 seed in the West

Interesting South Matchups:

#8 Pepperdine (24-6) vs #9 UTEP (21-8)
#6 Rutgers (21-10) vs #11 Wake Forest (18-11)
#7 Ohio State (22-9) vs #10 Rhode Island (22-13)

Interesting Mid-West Matchups:

#8 Cincinnati (22-10) vs #9 Siena (25-8). Both teams with a rating of 89. Assuming we handle business in the first game, I'll be playing one of them next.

#7 Iowa (24-10) vs #10 Mississippi State (19-11.) I think Mississippi State will win this game.

Saint Joseph's is the #2 seed in this bracket. They aren't as scary as they have been in past years with a team rating of 90.

#4 Kansas is probably the most talented team in this region besides us.

Only 3 Pac-10 Teams made it this year. Definitely, a down year for Stanford and Oregon.

I'll play later today if I'm feeling any better.

I forgot to mention our first game is against UT-Arlington. They finished the year with a 14-14 record. They have a 70 overall team rating. Their top 3 players are somewhat concerning:

SR PF Teddy Spooner is 6'9 236 and is rated 73 overall. He's averaging 12.5 ppg and 7.9 rpg.

SO C Paul Duhon is 7'2 256 and is rated 72 overall. He's averaging 12.3 ppg, 6.3 rpg, and 1.9 bpg.

SR SF Lubor Bouma is 6'6 250 and is rated 71 overall. He's averaging 6.9 ppg, 3.3 rpg, and 2.9 apg.

The rest of their team is rated in the 50's. I expect to beat them by at least 30..

15:04 - Disgusting start to the game. We allow them to jump to a 15-9 lead in the first 5 minutes. I call time and tell my guys to start playing defense or I'll put in players who will.

12:13 - We are tied at 18 after a Vega block leads to a 2-on-1 fast break with Dawson completing the alley-oop dunk to Kabba. They call time.

7:45 - After building a 24-20 lead, we've gotten sloppy again. I call time and rest my starters. I go with the entire 2nd unit of Dillard, Badu, Annen, Fuller, and Abdur-Rahim. We are down 25-24.

1:50 - Annen just had one of the most spectacular blocks I've ever seen in this game.. he chased down their SG on the breakaway coming from the other side of the court and swatted his layup out of bounds. We lead 34-29. That was his 2nd block of the day.

Badu with a 3 at the buzzer.

Halftime: We lead 40-33. I can't believe we've given up 33 points to this team. At least, the defense has been decent after that horrible start.

Farrell is the player of the half with 10 points and a steal. He has shot 2 of 3, 2 of 3, and 4 of 6. Vega with 8 points and 3 boards. Abdur-Rahim with 7 points and 3 boards. Badu with 7 points and 1 assist.

12:00 - We lead 52-42. Better defense the last few minutes.

9:45 - Badu in for Dawson, Annen in for Kabba, and Abdur-Rahim in for Vega. We lead 59-46. With this lineup in there, we'll run our full court trap more often..

6:05 - I go with Badu, Annen, Kabba, Abdur-Rahim, and Vega. We lead 68-50.

Badu, Annen, and Kabba wreck havok with the full court trap. 10 quick points off turnovers and this game is over.

2:44 - We are up 85-53. I get in the entire bench: Badu, Cox, Annen, Fuller, and English.

We win the game 90-53. Great finish thanks to our full court trap after not trapping most of the game. I need to remember to use it earlier next game, particularly when Badu is on the floor. His height and quickness makes it work very well. Of course, our remaining opponents should have much better ball handlers.

Abdur-Rahim is the player of the game with 20 points, 7 boarrds, and 1 block. He had most of those points during those turnovers generated by our fastbreak but he had 10 before that.

Dawson with 2 points, 7 assists, 1 steal, and 3 turnovers. He shot 1 of 6.

Farrell with 18 points, 2 boards, and 1 steal. He was highly efficient as he shot 4 of 6, 4 of 6, and 6 of 8.

Kabba with 13 points, 5 boards, 1 assist, and 2 steals. He shot 5 of 9.

Stevens with 2 points, 8 boards, 1 assist, 1 steal, and 1 block. he shot 0 of 3.

Vega with 12 points, 9 boards, 1 steal, and 1 block. He shot 6 of 7.

Badu with 9 points, 5 assists, and 4 steals in 18 minutes.

Annen with 9 points, 3 boards, 3 assists, 2 steals, and 2 blocks. He shot 1 of 7, but was 6 of 6 from the line.

Dillard with 0 points, 1 board, 2 assists, and 1 steal in 8 minutes.

Fuller with 2 points and a board.

#8 Cincinnati beat #9 Siena 100-77 to advance to play us.

Cincinnatti is 23-10 (11-7) this year. They are rated 90 overall. They have a long time coach there who has done very well over the last 30 years. Their RPI is 22nd. However, they have been hammered by injuries and they have 2 of their top players out completely and 2 more who are slowed with minor injuries:

Starting SR SF Treg Werner is 6'9 240 and is rated 83 overall. He's out with a back injury and will miss the rest of the season.

Back-up JR PF Benjamin Krager is 6'10 255 and is rated 82 overall. He's out with a torn ACL for the year.

Starting SR PG Amien Cassler is 6'1 202 and is rated 84 overall. He's slowed by a sprained knee but will play. He's averaging 7 ppg and 4.8 apg. He has no real big strengths but no weaknesses either.

Backup SR PG Taurean Obasohan is suffering with a broken big toe but will also play. He's 5'11 169 and is rated 83 overall. Normally, he is a great slashing guard who can get penetration and fill it up from midrange. He's averaging 14.1 ppg and 4 apg. His defense is below average.

SR C Andrew Darden is the star of this team. He's 6'10 221 and is rated 87 overall. He's got tremendous post moves, good hands, and is a good passer. He has superior mobility. He's averaging 20.7 ppg, 6.0 rpg, and 1.2 apg.

JR PF Ricardo McFarlin is a 6'9 232 pound player from Cincinnati. He loves to shoot the outside shot and can hit the 3 better than a lot of guards. In fact, he is their best 3 point shooter on the team. He's averaging 17.1 ppg, 2.8 rpg, and 0.9 bpg. He is rated 83 overall.

FR SG Floyd Davenport is starting for them at SF due to the injuries. He's 6'7 220 and is rated 76 overall. He's very mobile with good strength. He's averaging 2.9 ppg in limited minutes this year.

SO PG Dramane Stephenson leads the bench. He's 6'1 208 and is rated 81 overall. He's averaging 6.4 ppg and 3.5 apg.

JR PF Dane Dillon is 6'9 227 and is rated 79 overall. He's averaging 3.0 ppg and 2.8 rpg.

The rest of their bench is rated in the high 60's. With their injuries and resultant lack of depth, I hope to run them out of the game and wear them out. I'll play them later this week.

Edit to add: I was curious how they scored so many against Siena. They apparently had a big mismatch inside - Darden put up 40 points last game! McFarlin added 22. Obsohan had 14. Dillon and Cassler each had 10.

8:42 - Farrell with a block that starts a 3-on-1 fastbreak.. Dawson to Stevens for the dunk. We lead 22-13.

8:02 - They call time again. We lead 24-14 after Vega gets an easy 2. I bring in Badu, Annen, and Abdur-Rahim for Dawson, Farrell, and Vega. We'll run the full court trap more and try to put this out of reach early.

Our trap doesn't do anything special, but our M2M defense does. They go scoreless for another 4 minutes. We lead 32-16.

We finish the half with that group since they are playing so well.

Halftime: We lead 44-19.

Kabba is the player of the game with 17 points, 2 boards, 2 assists, 2 steals, and 2 blocks. He played the entire half.

Dawson with 4 assists. Farrell with 9 points. Stevens with 8 points. Annen with 8 points and 2 steals.

14:41 - We lead 54-24.

14:23 - Vega on a dunk attempt lands awkwardly. He is limping off the court. Abdur-Rahim into the game.

14:10 - Abdur-Rahim picks up his 3rd foul.

9:55 - That injury fired up our guys and we turn up the intensity. A 20-0 run finally ends. I pull my starters. We lead 74-26. The lineup for the next few minutes will be: Badu, Cox, Annen, Fuller, and Abdur-Rahim with English coming into the game in a few minutes.

We win the game 87-40.

Kabba was the player of the game with 26 points, 4 boards, 2 assists, 2 steals, and 2 blocks. He shot 10 of 14, 5 of 7, and 1 of 2.

Dawson with 2 points, 9 assists, 2 steals, and 2 turnovers in 22 minutes.

Farrell with 15 points, 2 boards, 1 assist, and 1 block in 22 minutes. He shot 5 of 10.

Stevens with 14 points, 10 boards, 2 assists, 1 steal, and 1 block in 30 minutes. He shot 5 of 8.

Vega with 6 points, 5 boards, 1 assist, 1 steal, and 1 block. Early word is that his injury isn't serious...

Annen led the bench with 14 points, 3 boards, 2 asssists, 2 steals, and a block. He shot 5 of 8.

Abdur-Rahim with 6 points, 9 boards, and 1 assist.

Badu with 2 points, 8 assists, and 2 steals in 18 minutes. He also had 3 turnovers.

Who else is in the Sweet 16? Who will be our next opponent? Dillard will be healthy next week, but should he start?

These and other questions to be answered..

In the rest of our bracket, #12 Boise state upset #5 Southern Miss. Even more shocking #13 Dartmouth upset #4 Kansas in the first round!

Boise State beat Dartmouth 78-72 and will be our next opponent. Dartmouth is a team with great team unity, but not nearly the talent of us, with an overall rating of 81. I'll preview them more in a minute. First, a look at the rest of the bracket:

#3 San Diego State beat #6 Dayton 72-67 to advance to the Sweet 16.

#7 Iowa crushed #15 Mississipi Valley State (who upset Saint Joseph's in the first round 66-64.)

I'll be playing either San Diego State or Iowa in the Elite 8 if I can win this game. Either team is a very winnable game. Things appear to be breaking very favorably for us..

East Matchups:

#1 DePaul vs #4 Florida
#2 Maryland vs #14 Southern Illinois (the year of the lower seeds apparently.)

West:

#5 Pitt vs #9 Texas
#6 Texas Tech vs #10 UConn

South:

#1 Washington vs #5 Tulane
#3 Texas A&M vs #7 Ohio State

I just can't see sitting Dillard who is projected as a top 5 pick in the draft. I'll start him now that he is healthy. Dawson will get in quickly though if Dillard appears too rusty and we fall behind.

A closer look at Boise State's Lineup:

JR SG Nelson Fox is their only player rated 80 or higher. He's 6'3 210 and is rated 80 overall. He was the 55th player in his class. He's a good 3 point shooter. He's their leading scorer at 16.3 ppg. He's also averaging 3.0 rpg, 2.4 apg, and 1.5 spg.

JR SF Freddie Guerrero is 6'8 200 and is rated 78 overall. He's averaging 8.2 ppg, 5.9 rpg, and 1.9 apg.

JR PG is usually their starter, but he is out with a torn ACL. Toree Nunez is 6'0 167 and is rated 74 overall. He's averaging 9.5 ppg and 3.7 apg.

Instead, SR PG Abraham Diener is starting. He is 5'9 180 and is a very smart player. He's rated 72 overall. He's averaging 7.1 ppg and 3.2 apg.

SR PF V.J. Batte starts at C for them. He's 6'10 230 and is rated 72 overall. He's averaging 8.5 ppg, 5.7 rpg, and 2.3 bpg.

JR PF Torey Matela is starting at PF. He's 6'7 215 and is rated 68 overall. He's averaging 4.8 ppg and 2.3 rpg.

Their best player on the bench is JR SG Irving Hopkins who is rated 72 overall. He's 6'2 185. Most of their bench players are rated in the low 60's with 1 other in the mid 60's.

15:53 - Dillard with a drive into the lane to get a 2nd foul on Matela. We lead 7-4.

9:47 - Dillard gets a 2nd foul on Batte. We lead 13-11. Dillard's shooting is very rusty, including his FT shooting. I bring in Dawson, Annen, and Abdur-Rahim for Dillard, Farrell, and Vega.

7:14 - Dawson has already matched Dillard's assist numbers. We lead 24-11..

Fox with a 3 to end our run.

Fox with another 3.. and another!

1:00 - Kabba and Stevens are very tired. I put in Farrell and Vega. We lead 37-26.

Halftime: We lead 39-26.

We are dominating at the line with our physical play.

Kabba is the player of the half with 16 points, 4 boards, 1 steal, and 1 block.

Dillard with 2 points and 2 assists in 11 minutes. Dawson with 4 points and 4 assists in 9 minutes. Both had 1 turnover.

Annen with 8 points. Farrell is 0 of 5 so far.

18:51 - Dillard gets a 3rd foul on Batte.

15:30 - I bring in what appears to be our best trapping lineup: Badu, Annen, Kabba, Stevens, and Abdur-Rahim. We lead 42-34.

We take until the 12:29 mark to make a basket to help us set up our trap.

12:02 - Kabba picks up his 3rd foul and is tired. I bring in Farrell. We lead 45-37.

10:02 - I go with Dawson, Farrell, Annen, Stevens, and Vega. We lead 50-37.

4:19 - We put together a 26-0 run! They finally score on a shot by Diener. We lead 76-39. I call time and pull my starters and empty the bench. Dillard will play the last 4 minutes as he tries to shake more rust off. The lineup that will finish the game is Dillard, Cox, Annen, Fuller, and Vega.

We win the game 82-40.

Annen is the player of the game with 17 points, 4 boards, 2 assists, 2 blocks, and 2 steals. He shot 5 of 11, 1 of 4, and 6 of 6. He played 25 minutes.

Kabba with 16 points, 4 boards, 2 steals, and a block. He shot 6 of 11. He played 27 minutes.

Dillard with 4 points, 4 assists, and 3 turnovers. He shot 0 of 2 and was 4 of 9 from the line. He played 19 minutes.

Dawson with 4 points, 7 assists, 2 steals, and 1 turnover. He played 15 minutes.

Badu with 0 points, 1 assist, and 1 steal in 5 minutes.

Farrrell finished with 14 points, 2 boards, 2 assists, and 2 steals. He shot 4 of 10.

Stevens with 6 points, 7 boards, and a block.

Vega with 13 points, 12 boards, and 3 blocks. He shot 3 of 4 and was 7 of 7 from the line.

Abdur-Rahim with 4 points, 8 boards, 2 steals, and 2 blocks.

Fuller and Cox with 2 points.

Who will we face in the Elite 8?

Iowa continues the run of upsets as they beat #3 San Diego State 68-62.

Iowa is 27-10 (we are now 28-7.) They have a roster rating of 87. Ours is now 96.

Their starting SG is out with a broken ankle. Their top freshman is playing through a knee sprain.

A look at their starting lineup:

SR PG Cliff Linebaugh is the main focus of their offense. The 6'3 208 pound player from Colorado Springs is rated 88 overall. He was the 19th player in his class back in H.S. and he is a very fast guard with out of the world leaping ability, excellent passing, and good shooting. His defense is above average. He's averaging 16.6 ppg, 4.4 apg, and 3.4 rpg.

JR SG/PG Renato French usually starts for them at SG but the injury will keep him out. He averaging 10.7 ppg and 3.5 apg.

SR PG Austin Slater is starting at SG for them with the injury. Austin is 6'2 199 and is rated 79 overall. He is a very quick player. His defense is subpar. He is averaging 8.3 ppg and 2.8 apg.

FR SF Muhamed Maldonado is starting despite his injury. He's 6'6 202 and is rated 77 overall. He's averaging 8 ppg and 3.9 rpg. He was the 29th player in his class. His strengths are his midrange shooting and his strength.

SR PF Rhett Jennings is 6'7 242 and is rated 78 overall. He'll play a lot of center as they like to go small at times as well. He's a very good post player and a good 3 point shooter for a big man. He's averaging 12.3 ppg, 5.4 rpg, and 0.9 bpg.

SO C D.C. Parsons is 7'0 258 and is rated 67 overall. He'll start but they don't play him many minutes at all. As a result, he is only averaging 1.4 ppg and 2.1 rpg.

SR SG Andres Seymour leads their bench. He's 6'3 210 and he is a tough minded defender. He's averaging 4.4 ppg. He's rated 78 overall.

SO PG Vladimaras Helms is a quick slashing guard who is rated 77 overall. He's 6'2 190. He's averaging 7.2 ppg and 1.7 apg.

JR SG Toby Sidney is a good shooter. He's 6'6 219 and is rated 77 overall. His defense is subpar. He's averaging 8.3 ppg.

SR PG Shane Castillo provides some size and 3 point shooting ability. He's 6'5 240 and is rated 76 overall but he is the best 3 point shooter on the team with a 85 rating. He's averaging 7.7 ppg in limited minutes.

The rest of the bench is rated in the 60's. I'll play them tomorrow. Here is a look at the rest of the Sweet 16 results and Elite 8 matchups:

East:

#1 DePaul beat #4 Florida 94-80.
#2 Maryland beat #14 S. Illinois 100-72.

West:

#9 Texas beat #5 Pitt 75-69.
#10 UConn beat #6 Texas Tech 86-70.

South:

#1 Washington beat #5 Tulane 75-70.
#7 Ohio State beat #3 Texas A&M 90-79.

15:00 - We lead 10-4. Kabba with 7 points.

12:04 - I get my trapping lineup in the game. We are up 10-6.

Not off the trap, but Badu gets a steal and breakaway dunk.

8:59 - They end our run with a drive by Seymour for the foul and FT's. We lead 16-8.

5:35 - I bring back Farrell and Vega, resting Kabba and Stevens. We lead 18-10. Terrific defense from our group.

3:00 - I bring back Dillard. We lead 23-14. Badu with a nice stretch there.

Halftime: We lead 26-21. Linebaugh scored all 7 of their points in the last 3 minutes as he finally broke out of his shooting slump.

Kabba is the player of the game with 7 points, 1 board, and 2 steals.

Annen also has 7 points, 1 assist, 1 steal, and 1 block. Badu with 5 points, 3 assists, and 2 steals.

15:44 - Linebaugh with a 3 (after coming off a screen) to put them ahead 32-31.

12:03 - Dillard gets a 3rd foul on Linebaugh who is their main source of scoring. We are tied at 37.

9:25 - We are up 42-39. I feel bad not playing Dawson, but I think our defensive/trapping lineup is the best option right now. I put in Badu, Annen, and Abdur-Rahim.

6:11 - The trapping isn't working. They are getting some easy baskets and Linebaugh has just hit a pair of 3's to give them a 50-46 lead. I call time. We go with Badu, Farrell, Annen, Abdur-Rahim, and Vega.

Farrell misses a wide open 3. Linebaugh with a 3 at the other end.

Vega turns it over. Badu with a block that starts a fastbreak.. he is fouled. He makes both FT's. Badu with a steal from the full court trap.

He finds Abdur-Rahim who is fouled. 53-50.

The trap forces an errant out of bounds pass. Farrell misses a 3 but Abdur-Rahim with the tip-in.

Vega forces a missed shot by Jennings. Vega is fouled at the other end. He makes both FT's! We lead 54-53. 4 minutes left.

Jennings with a 14 footer. He has 14 points.

Badu hits a wide open 3. He has 8 points.

Maldonado gets inside and Vega fouls him on a block attempt. He misses both FT's. Sidney with the board and he is fouled on a block attempt by Abdur-Rahim. He makes both FT's. Tied at 57. 3 minutes to go.

2:39 - Farrell hits a long 2 with his foot just on the line. We lead 59-57.

Badu with good defense forces an awkward shot by Linebaugh that misses. Jennings with the board. Vega blocks the put-back attempt. Farrell hits a corner 3! We lead 62-57.

Seymour hits a long 3 off a screen. 1 minute left.

Farrell misses a 12 footer.

6.9 seconds left - Vega comes out with the center who sets a screen for Linebaugh to take a 3.. Vega leaps.. and barely tips the shot.. what a block! Annen gets the carom and is fouled. He makes the first FT... and the 2nd. I take out Farrell and bring in Kabba for the defense.

1.6 seconds - Badu steals a pass. He is fouled and makes both FT's. That is the final margin!

We win the game 66-60. We are going to the Final Four!

Vega is the player of the game with 13 points, 5 boards, 2 assists, 2 blocks, and a steal.

Dillard with 2 points, 4 assists, 1 steal, and 1 turnover in 21 minutes.

Badu with 10 points, 2 boards, 4 assists, 4 steals, 2 blocks, and 2 turnovers in 19 minutes.

Farrell with 10 points and 2 steals. He shot 4 of 12.

Kabba with 10 points, 2 boards, 1 assist, and 2 steals. He shot 3 of 9.

#2 Maryland beat #1 DePaul 83-66 to advance.

#10 UConn beat #9 Texas 67-64 to advance.

Maryland and UConn are veyr evenly matched in my opinion. UConn had injuries earlier in the year and are actually a very talented team who fought through those injuries.

Will we be playing #1 seed Washington?

Nope, 7 seed Ohio State beat them 74-70 to advance.

Ohio State is a very talented team as well. They finished the year 26-9 (11-7) and have a team rating of 91. Their coaching is rated at 100. Thad Matta is still there and has a lifetime record of 804-408. Both teams are completely healthy. They rely on a pair of dynamic wingmen:

SR SG Germain Thomasson is 6'4 215 and is rated 89 overall. He is a great slashing guard who can also hit the outside shot well. Defensively, he is also very good. His only weakness is his stamina. He is averaging 10.1 ppg, 4.9 apg, and 1.5 spg.

SR SF Darell Watkins is 6'7 233 and is rated 87 overall. He is another dynamic dunker who can also shoot the outside shot. His defense is outstanding. His weakness is his ball handling and passing. He is averaging 10.8 ppg, 5.2 rpg.

JR PF Lou Clinton is 6'7 235 and is rated 85 overall. He is a great shot blocker and a very good post player. He's averaging 14.1 ppg, 7.4 rpg, and 2.4 bpg.

SO C Hendrik Laurelin is a big man with a ton of potential, but he isn't quite there yet. His defense is solid but his post game needs work. Des[ote that he is averaging 12.5 ppg, 6.8 rpg, and 1.8 bpg. He is rated 80 overall.

JR PG Jackie Blackett is the weakest link on the team. He's 5'10 181 and is rated 77 overall. He isn't a very good ball handler or passer and is more of a tweener guard whose best attribute is his outside shooting. He's averaging 5.6 ppg and 2.2 apg in 20 mpg.

SR SG Juan Chiles plays a lot of point for them. He isn't a very good ball handler either. Actually, Thomasson is their best ball handler and passer on their team. Juan is averaging 7.8 ppg and 2.3 apg in 22 mpg. He is 6'3 186 and is rated 79 overall.

JR SG Laurie Mendez is 6'0 185 and is rated 77 overall. He's a pure 3 point specialist and is the best shooter on their team. However, his defense is so bad he only plays 2-3 minutes per game. He's averaging 2.6 ppg despite this.

They have no size on their bench. Their tallest bench player is SO SF Dee Challed who is 6'8 215 and is rated 73 overall.

Most of their bench is rated in the low 70's.

Not off the trap, but Kabba gets the steal. He throws it to Annen.. who passes it to Badu in stride.. Badu dunks it home. They call time again.

Watkins with a coast-to-coast move and he draws the foul. He makes the first FT to tie it and the 2nd to give them the lead. 37.5 seconds left..

We call time and bring back Dillard and Farrell. The plan is to get it inside to Vega with about 5-6 seconds to go..

With 4.6 seconds left, Vega hits the hook shot to put us ahead!

They are out of T.O's. They inbound it.. we get a bit of pressure on them.. they get it midcourt.. Thomasson shoots.. it's on line... it's long! It bounces off the backboard and is no good!

We win the game 76-75! On to the National Championship Game!

Vega is the player of the game with 19 points, 6 boards, and 2 blocks. He shot 7 of 11, 0 of 0, and 5 of 7.

Dillard with 12 points, 10 assists, 4 steals, 3 turnovers. He shot 3 of 9.

Farrell with 13 points, 1 board, and 4 steals. He shot 4 of 9.

Kabba with 7 points, 1 board, 1 assist, and 1 steal in just 14 minutes due to his foul trouble.

Stevems with 2 points, 3 boards, and 1 block.

Badu led the bench with 10 points, 2 assists, and 1 turnover. He shot 4 of 7.

Annen with 9 points, 6 boards, 1 steal, and 1 block.

Dawson with 2 points and 1 assist. Abdur-Rahim with 2 points, 5 boards, and 2 assists.

Nice work again, EF27. This sure did not feel like a title caliber team after 15-20 games, but once again it seems like you found the switch in the back half of the season. The first three rounds of the tourney were basically a warm-up act for your guys and you've gutted out the last two.

Good luck bringing home another title in the final.

#2 Maryland handles #10 UConn 99-75. Maryland is a very talented team with a rating of 93. They are 34-6 (12-4.) They are averaging 84 ppg, one of the higher outputs in the country this year.

They have a backup SO PG, Oliver Haigler, who is out with a broken ankle. Hmm, I think that is a player I looked at recruiting at one point. They are led by a very talented PF:

SR PF Reginald Gillingham is 6'8 245 and is rated 90 overall. He is a player who can do it all - post up, shoot midrange shots, shoot the 3, play defense, rebound, pass well. His only weakness is his tendency to get into foul trouble. He is averaging 13.0 ppg, 7.7 rpg, and 1.1 spg in only 21.8 mpg (due to foul trouble I'm sure.) He averages 4.5 fouls per game. We'll certainly be looking to attack him early..

JR PG Cameron Tate is a dynamic penetrating guard who can shoot the midrange shot extremely well. He's expected to be a lottery pick in the upcoming draft. He's 5'11 180 and rated 88 overall. He's averaging 14.4 ppg, 3.9 apg.

JR PG Francisco Njila is 5'11 184 and is rated 85 overall. He's a lightning quick penetrating guard. He's averaging 11.9 ppg and 3.0 apg.

JR SG Tadas Peterson is 6'1 184 and is rated 84 overall. He's one of the best 3 point shooters in the country when he's open but he has trouble creating his own shot. He's averaging 10.7 ppg.

SO SG Othello Hairston is 6'4 213 and is also a very good 3 point shooter. He's rated 82 overall. His defense is below average. He's averaging 8.9 ppg.

SR PF Jay Vargas starts at C for them. He's 6'8 236 and is rated 81 overall. He is a very good post player, but he also tends to get into foul trouble. He's averaging 11.0 ppg, 4.6 rpg, and 1 bpg in 18.3 mpg.

Other key bench players:

SR PG Miles Ames is 5'9 178 and is rated 81 overall. Great dribbler with very good speed. He's averaging 4.9 ppg, 2.0 apg, and 16 mpg.

SO SG D.C. Horton is 6'4 208 and is rated 80 overall. Very good 3 point shooter. He's averaging 3.5 ppg and 8 mpg.

SO SF Ben Luber is 6'5 200 and is rated 76 overall. His best attribute is his 3 point shooting. He's averaging 2 ppg and 3 mpg.

The rest of the bench is rated in the mid 70's.

Thanks. Guys are developing MUCH better since I hired a 2nd assistant coach who excels at teaching. Also, our cohesion has gone way up since early in the year. In fact, before I start the game let's take one last detailed look at my team:

SR PG Jerald Dillard is up to a 93 rating. He's one of the fastest guards in the country with a 96 speed and 95 quickness. He's a very good ball handler (90), a good passer (82), and a good shooter. His stealing ability is elite (95). Despite all of these abilities, he's only averaging 6.8 ppg, 3.7 apg, 2.2 rpg, and 1.6 spg this year. He was the 27th player overall in his class. He is projected to be a top 5 draft pick after he graduates.

JR SF Lucious Kabba is now rated 89 overall. His midrange game is his most lethal weapon followed by his dunking. Defensively, he is very good and he has great quickness and speed (88 in each) as well as nice strength for his position (79). He's averaging 12.6 ppg, 3.6 rpg, and 1.4 spg. He has really picked it up in the tourney except for the last game. There is talk among NBA scouts that he could come out early and be a 1st round pick. He was the 79th player in his class.

JR PG Antone Dawson is 6'1 193 and is now up to a 88 rating. His passing is at an elite level (95) and he is clearly the best passer on our team. His defense is top notch as well now. His midrange game is incredible even though he rarely uses it. He's averaging 4.7 ppg, 3.6 apg, and 17.9 mpg. Despite his limited minutes and production, scouts are talking about him being a mid 1st round pick if he comes out now. He was the 56th player in his class.

SO SF Leo Annen is up to a 86 rating. Tremendous quickness and speed for his size (87 for both.) He's the most electric finisher on the team (93 dunking.) His defense is his most improved attribute. He's averaging 10.4 ppg, 2.9 rpg, and 0.7 bpg. He was the 77th player in his class.

JR C Olu Vega is 7'1 259 and is rated 85 overall. His rebounding is his most improved rating followed closely by his post offense and close range shooting. He's developed his left hand in the post. As a result, he has career highs in almost every category: 12.6 ppg, 6.4 rpg, 1.6 apg, and 1.6 bpg. He was the 146th player in his class. There is talk he could come out early and be a 1st round pick..

SO C Abdur-Rahim has improved in so many important areas. He's now rated 85 overall as well. He's faster than Vega (78 speed, 72 quickness) and is much better at putting it on the floor. His post game is also better. If Vega leaves, I don't think we'll miss a beat at C next year. He's averaging 6.5 ppg, 4.4 rpg, 0.4 bpg, and 17.8 mpg. He was the 96th player in his class.

SO PF Desmond Stevens is now rated 84 overall. While he isn't shooting consistently, when he is on, we are almost unstoppable. He's averaging 5.1 ppg, 6.3 rpg, 1.7 spg, and 0.7 bpg. His strength is his leaping ability and his quick hands. He was the 37th player in his class.

SO PF A.C. Fuller is now rated 84 overall as well. He has the most refined post game of any player on our team, but his post defense is the weakest of our big men. Still, if we are struggling offensively, I need to remember to put him into the game. He's averaging 2.4 ppg, 1.3 rpg, and 5.4 mpg. He was the 99th player in his class.

SO SG Arzelle Farrell is now rated 83 overall. He's really rounding out his game nicely. His 3 point shooting is up to a 93 rating. His defense is now a very respectable 85. His length helps add to that. His post up ratings have improved considerably. He's also very quick. He's averaging 14.6 ppg, 2.0 apg, and 1.2 rpg. We've relied on him less in the tourney and his scoring has been down a bit. He was the 78th player in his class.

FR PG Marcellus Badu is tied for most growth on the team with a 4 point gain. He is now 6'5 204 and is rated 79 overall. His biggest improvements are in awareness, but he has improved every facet of his game considerably. His defense is going to be one of the best ever among my players when he is done, I suspect. This is magnified by his size. He's a great trapping guard. If I get that 6'9 guard, Moss, next year and he can trap as well, I think we could be absolutely devastating with the full cour trap. He's averaging 3.6 ppg, 1.8 apg, 8.9 mpg. All of those numbers are trending up over the last few weeks. He was the 21st player in his class.

RS FR Kody Hehn is also doing a great job growing during his redshirt year. He is now rated 79 overall, a 4 point growth. I just hope he doesn't get mad about being redshirted..

RS FR Devon Kilgore is now rated 77 overall.

Walk-on RS SO PG Domonic Cox is now rated 75 overall. We have two other walk-ons who are in the 50's and will never see the court.

Badu misses a quick 3 as it almost goes down but rims out.

So close, but so far. We lose 88-81.

We do get one bit of good news. I guess losing that game wasn't how Kabba wanted to go out. He's returning for his senior year!

The only player's leaving are Dillard who was drafted high in the 1st round and a walkon SF. No transfers either.

I get a bunch of jobs including DePaul, Minnesota, and Ohio State (Thad finally retired.)

ASU got hit hard losing 2 of their players to transfers. SO SG Karl Mason went to Northern Iowa. JR SF Wilson Gale went to Hawaii.

Time to see if Allan Wolfe still wants to be a Trojan..

Allan Wolfe is now a Trojan! He's a 5 star PF who is 6'8 255. If he grows an inch or two as I expect, he could get some PT next year. He is rated 25th overall and is a 5 star player from Santa Ana, CA. He averaged 10.5 ppg, 9.8 rpg, 2.6 bpg in the ABL. Our staff believes his defense is his biggest strength and that he has "A" potential. He grades out as: Shooting B-, Skills B, Defense B+, Athleticism B+, Rebounding A-, IQ A, Potential A, and Size B+.

Washington had a very good day getting a 5 star PG who I liked, W.B. Henry. He is the 7th ranked player in the country. If I didn't have Badu, I think we would have been a big player for him. He's from Modesto, CA. They also got Max McDade, who is the #1 C in the country and is from Glendale, CA. He's 6'11 230 and is ranked 42nd overall. I would have gone after him as my primary target if Wolfe didn't want to be a Trojan so obviously.

Now, to see if we can close the deal on Connally Moss..

1 week later, Moss signs with USC turning down Wake Forest! Connally is a 6'9 234 pound SG. He's a 3 star player who is ranked 163rd overall and 43rd among SG's. He grades out as: Shooting B, Skills A-, Defense B+, Athleticism A-, Rebounding B-, IQ B-, Potential B-, and Size A-. He averaged 10.1 ppg, 6.4 rpg, 6.3 apg, 3.9 spg, and 2.1 bpg in the ABL. Our staff believes he is a terrific passer, has excellent speed for his size, and is an instinctive shot blocker. I hope they are right. His weakness is his outside shooting.

That fills this class. Time to start weeding through the Juniors more to see which 1 I'm going to target for next year.

Tough way to end it as it sounded like this was going to be your year. Then again that is why this game is so great. Even with a great team and great regular season success it is still difficult to win the tourney.

True. I'd be bored with it if I could go 35-0 and win the title every year.

Looking forward to seeing this team perform this upcoming year. I think we're going to have a special year. I got too locked into the idea of working Dillard in where Dawson was performing very well while Dillard was out. I think the team is going to play much better with Dawson at PG. I think the passing attribute matters more than I gave it credit for in the pass.

Time to see what the team looks like before Midnight Madness.

Our class is ranked 78th. Not surprising with only 2 players, although I guess I thought the 1 5 star would push it up a bit higher than that.

The top 10:

1. UConn - 2 5 star All-Americans, 2 3 stars.
2. Texas A&M - 3 5 star players.
3. Nebraska - 2 5 star players and 1 4 star player.
4. FSU - 2 5 stars and 2 4 stars.
5. Maryland - 2 5 starts and 2 3 stars.
6. Washington 1 5 star, and 4 4 stars.
7. Colorado 1 5 star, 3 4 stars.
8. Pitt - 1 5 star, 1 4 star, and 2 3 stars.
9. Arkansas - 4 4 stars.
10. UNLV - 2 4 stars and 2 3 stars.

Now, it is time to look at what the team looks like.

We are #1 in the Pre-season polls!

PG - I love both options.

RS SR Antone Dawson could have gone to the NBA but he is ready to be a superstar in college. He's 6'1 197 and is rated 89 overall now. Nothing new to say. Great passer, great midrange shooter in theory, excellent defender.

SO PG Marcellus Badu is 6'5 206 and rated 81 overall now. His hsot blocking and stealing are better than Dawson but he isn't as fundamentally sound on defense. He is the better 3 point shooter and the stronger player. He's a better ball handler as well but a worse passer.

RS JR Walk-on Domonic Cox may not even make the 12 man roster to start the year. However, if there is an injury, he'd be a viable player. He's 6'3 203 and is rated 76 overall. He's actually the best 3 point shooter of the group.

SG - Farrell is still one of my favorite players. Moss might be a disappointment (but I need to remember overall rating isn't everything and might not be that important for his role.)

JR SG Arzelle Farrell is now 6'7 214. He's rated 84 overall. His 3 point shooting has leveled off, but his athleticism, defense, and passing are all improving. Great quickness. With his shooting and ability to move, he should put up 20 a game.

My staff is recommending I redshirt Moss, but I don't think I will despite a disappointing overall of 73. Then again, back in the day, I would kill for that kind of overall in my freshmen. The fact is that Moss has what I expected: Size - He's now 6'9 236. He has legit SG speed and quickness which should make his size very disruptive on defense. The downside is that his potential is worse than advertised. Also, his shooting is worse than advertised. He's going to strictly a defensive stopper and dunker when he is on the floor. He is a good passer as advertised. I definitely think he'll have a key role when we run our full court trap and need increased defensive presence. Not to mention, he certainly has the size to play the 3, 4, or even 5 in a pinch..

SF - An embarassment of riches.

SR Lucious Kabba is now rated 89 overall. He's 6'7 233. His shooting is unbelievable when he is on, but he is a very streaky shooter which is my only knock on him. Great athleticism for the position, great dunker, strong defense, decent passer. Great leaping ability.

RS JR Leo Annen is 6'8 205 and is rated 87 overall. He is the best shot blocker outside of my PF's and C's. He has tremendous midrange shooting ability. He's got nice post up ability. He's still the best dunker on the team. He's also one of the best hustle players on the team.

RS FR Kody Hehn had a growth spurt! He's now 6'10 225 and rated 80 overall. He's a good midrange shooter, a good dunker, a strong player, and his defense is good, particularly his stealing ability. On the downside, he is a bit slow with some lateral movement issues as well. He's significantly slower than Moss for example. That being said, I need to find a few minutes a night at least for him. He may play some PF for us as he is a good rebounder.

RS FR Devon Kilgore is another player who deserves some PT, but he might get lost in the numbers. He's 6'8 211 and is rated 78 overall. His potential isn't as high as the other guys on the team. However, he is a solid player without too many weaknesses. He is much quicker and faster than Kody.

PF - I'm not happy with Stevens production and remembering that overall's aren't the end all, I might give the Freshman a shot at winning the job...

JR PF Desmond Stevens should be able to win the starting job. He's gained an inch and is now 6'9 235. He's the best rebounder at the position. He has a decent midrange shot. He's a good dunker. He's a solid defender. He's got adequate speed and mobility. His only weakness is his post offense.

JR PF A.C. Fuller is also a contender to start. Particularly, if I decide I need more offensive options. He's the best post player on the team. I need to remember to get him minutes regardless of whether or not he starts. He's faster and quicker than Stevens. He's not as good of a rebounder or a defender.

FR PF Allan Wolfe didn't have a growth spurt, but I still like what I see. My staff wants us to redshirt him, but I think I'd like to get him some PT this year. He's 6'8 258. His post game is better than either of his teammates were at this point. He is the best passer of the 3. His rebounding needs work as does his defense. Looking at him, I doubt he will win the starting job, but I don't think I should redshirt him. He'll get some minutes.

C is another position where I feel we have 2 great options and a solid 3rd option:

SR C Olu Vega's return really surprised me. He's 7'1 267 now and rated 86 overall. His post game needs work still, and I guess this is why he returned, but he's become much better over the years. His midrange game is also improving and he has a legit 12 footer now. Defensively, he should be getting a ton of swats. He is also the best passer of our big men and is really an excellent passer for a big man. He's also one of the strongest players I've ever had. Definitely need to get him the ball more this year.

JR C Jeromy Abdur-Rahim is 6'10 253 and also rated 86 overall now. He has some legitimate 3 point ability. He's a solid post scorer. He's a great offensive rebounder. He's also a very strong player.

Walk-on R C Duane English is 7'0 249 now. He's rated 78 overall. He's a very good rebounder and a solid post defender. I wouldn't feel bad at all if I had to use him.

This team is loaded. Easy to see why we are #1 in the pre-season poll. I really want to take them for a spin now, but I'm tired. I'll start the recruiting process and play our first game which is against Montana tomorrow.

Oh yeah, don't know why I thought I only had 1 scholarship to sign a player with. I have 3 and the #3 player in the nation, a PG from Colorado, has a lot of interest in USC...

As I was going to bed last night, I realized I have a problem. I have 15 players who I'd like to be on my 12 man roster (and use.) Cox is easy to exclude even though I like him. Ditto for English. Should I follow through with the staff suggestion and redshirt Moss? I thought about it as I was falling asleep. While it is tempting to do so, I think Moss can help us win a championship this year even if he only plays a few minutes a game. So, I hate to do it, but Kilgore is out of the 12 man roster to start the year.

Our Starting 5: Dawson, Farrell, Kabba, Stevens, and Vega. I decided Stevens' defense and rebounding is what I need at PF for now. It's already going to be hard to find enough opportunities for Farrell, Kabba, and Vega who are all 1a, 1b, and 1c scoring options.

Annen will be the first player off the bench. Abdur-Rahim 1st big off the bench. Badu will be primary PG off the bench and everyone else will get rotated in depending upon the situation.

Recruiting needs:

No overwhelming needs but the top preferences would be:

1. PG - I don't want Badu to be the only legit ball handler next year.
2. C - I don't want Abdur-Rahim to be our only true C. I want to get another 7 footer if I can to replace Vega.
3. Best available player

Looking at the top players in California:

1. SG J.W. Reese from San Diego. He is the 6th player overall in the country. Darn, playing time is his #1 priority and his interest in USC is very low. He is heavily favoring UCLA

2. Leland Graham is the 20th player in the nation and 2nd best in the state. He is a 5 star SG from Los Angeles. He is also heavily favoring UCLA as they have huge playing time available.

I'm going to pursue Reese and hope I can somehow convince him..

3. C Rylan Prillman is the 4th rated player in California and is 77th in the nation. He's a 4 star C who did very well in the ABL. He's 6'9 228, but has everything else I'd like in a center including an outside shot. I'm pursuing him.

4. Jasper Stevers is the #3 player in the nation and #2 PG. He's from Colorado and he has USC in his top 3 along with Texas A&M and Kansas. I'm going after him hard. He's 6'1 181 and averaged 18.6 ppg, 6.9 apg, 5.6 rpg, and 1.4 spg in the ABL. Our staff thinks he could be an immediate starter, he's that talented.

2 weeks later: Reese has made it clear he is going to either UCLA or UNLV. I decide to go after Graham and I offer him my last scholarship (I also offered Stivers and Prillman.)

Our first game is at home vs Montana. They have a roster rating of 75. Their best player is JR PG T.J. Cochran who is rated 73 overall and 5'10 170. They do have a big SG who, Jerod Bush, who is 6'6 227 and is a good 3 point shooter. Their SR PF is also rated 72 overall. Alec Holland is 6'9 270 and is a decent post scorer.

Should be a nice warm-up in which I should be able to empty my bench.

Wow. I've never had this before. Our overall team rating to start the year is 96. I wonder if we can reach 100 before the end of the year...

19:08 - The first basket of the season is scored by Stevens on an open 12 footer.

Bush with a pair of 3's. They are up 6-4 early.

14:20 - We are down 9-7. Farrell with 4 points. Kabba has missed his first 3 shots.

12:27 - We are down 14-11. Badu in at PG, Annen in at SG, and Abdur-Rahim in at C. Time to turn up the pressure in the backcourt.

8:40 - They are handling our trap most of the time and are shooting very impressively. If they get an open look, they are making the shot. We are down 22-18.

6:59 - My lineup now will be Badu, Farrell, Annen, Fuller, and Abdur-Rahim. We are down 25-21.

6:31 - Fuller with a great double move in the post, gets the basket and the foul.

Fuller with the steal in the backcourt. He finds Abdur-Rahim for the basket and the foul. We are up 27-25.

5:33 - Farrell gets his 2nd foul as he fouls Bush on a 3 point attempt. I bring in Moss for the first time.

We run a play for Moss who posts up the much smaller defender.. he hits a hook shot for his first basket as a Trojan.

Moss tips a pass in the backcourt and Badu gets the steal. He is fouled as he goes up for a dunk.

Moss is fouled on a fastbreak after he gets the outlet pass from Abdur-Rahim. He makes both FT's although the 2nd rattled around a lot.

Moss tips another pass that Badu collects.

1:20 - Moss with a drive to draw the defender and he throws it up for Abdur-Rahim to dunk. We lead 42-34. They call time. We go with all of our starters except Annen at SG.

Their shooting is keeping them in it.

Halftime: We lead 42-39.

Abdur-Rahim is the player of the half with 11 points, 5 boards, and 1 assist.

Farrell and Annen with 6 each. A few players with 4 including Moss.

I'm telling my guys during halftime that they need to clamp down much better on their shooters..

15:00 - Our defense isn't getting the job done, but our offense is becoming very efficient. We lead 59-49.

14:33 - Farrell picks up his 3rd foul. I bring in Moss at SG and Abdur-Rahim at C. We lead 59-51.

13:34 - Dawson picks up his 3rd foul. Badu into the game.

13:05 - I scream "no.. no.. yes!" as Moss takes and makes a wide open 3. We lead 64-51.

Moss steals it in the backcourt and gets fouled on a dunk attempt. He makes 1 of 2.

11:23 - They finally end our run as they break the trap and get an easy basket. We lead 71-53.

Our full court pressure is wrecking havok now.

8:59 - We lead 81-57. They call time. Time to get some of the freshman some PT. I bring back Farrell for some leadership - We go with Badu, Farrell, Hehn, Wolfe, and Vega.

8:33 - Vega with a board.. throws it to Badu.. who passes to Farrell who passes to Wolfe for the dunk. Hardly touched the floor.

7:32 - Hehn with a 2 boards already including an offensive board in which he was just fouled on the putback attempt. He makes both FT's for his first career points.

5:30 - We lead 92-64. I call time and empty my bench. We'll go with Badu, Moss, Hehn, Fuller, and Wolfe.

We win the game 109-79.

Wow. Moss won player of the game. I love the kid already and can't figure out why he wasn't ranked higher. Moss with 19 points, 6 assists, 2 boards, and 1 steal (but his tipped passes led to countless more, mostly for Badu.) He shot 5 of 6, 1 of 1, and 8 of 10. Only question is if he can do this against higher level competition. Despite that, I'm very glad I didn't redshirt him. Although he did give up a lot of points. Bush had 29 points to lead their team. Their SF Reynolds, who is also a good 3 point shooter, had 28 points.

Dawson with a quiet start. He only played 15 minutes due to the blowout. He finished with 3 points, 2 assists, and 2 steals. I know he'll come up bigger down the road.

Badu with 6 points, 8 assists, 6 steals, and 4 turnovers in 25 minutes.

Farrell with 10 points, 4 assists, and 2 steals. He shot 2 of 7. He only played 18 minutes tonight.

Kabba with 14 points, 3 boards, and 1 steal. He played 24 mintues and shot 5 of 10.

Stevens with 7 points, 5 boards, and 1 assist in 24 minutes.

Vega with 12 points, 9 boards, and a block in 18 minutes.

Annen with 6 points, 1 board, 1 assist, and 2 steals in 12 minutes.

Abdur-Rahim with 15 points, 7 boards, and 2 assists in 17 minutes.

Fuller with 11 points, 2 boards, and 2 steals in 12 minutes.

Hehen with 3 points, 2 boards, 1 block, and 2 turnovers in 10 minutes.

Wolfe with 4 points and 2 boards in 10 minutes.

I'm elated with how the team looks right now.

Our next game is against South Dakota State. They are 0-2 with a rating of 72.

We beat them 109-51. Dawson with another quiet night as he only played 9 minutes due to foul trouble. He had 0 points and 3 assists.

Badu stepped up with 13 points, 7 assists, and 1 turnover.

Farrell with 14 points, 3 boards, and 2 assists. He shot 5 of 10.

Kabba with 14 points, 2 boards, 2 assists, and 1 steal. He shot 5 of 6.

Stevens with 5 points, 8 boards, 2 assists, and 2 blocks.

Vega with 18 points, 8 boards, 3 assists, and 2 blocks.

Annen with 14 points, 4 boards, 4 assists, 1 steal, and 3 blocks. He shot 5 of 10.

Abdur-Rahim with 12 points, 7 boards, 2 assists, and 3 blocks. He shot 3 of 6.

Hehn with 7 points, 3 boards, 1 assist in 6 minutes (the sim engine doesn't change substitution minutes in blowouts usually)

Moss with 0 points, 2 boards, and 3 assists in 6 minutes. Love his passing.

Wolfe with 2 points, 1 board, and 1 steal in 6 minutes.

Fuller with 8 points and 1 board in 13 minutes.

Dawson broke his nose in the game but will play through it.

Recruiting news:

C Rylan Prillman had Stanford as his #1 before we started recruiting him. We are now his clear #1. He should be signing early with us.

Our next game is against CS Fullerton. They are 1-1 with a rating of 76. Their best player is 6'2 173 pound SG Isaac Staple who is rated 75 overall. JR PG Marlon Fray is 6'4 210 and is rated 73 overall. FR SF Ije Bojang is 6'6 205 and is rated 69 overall. They have good size at C, but both of them are rated in the low 60's.

One other thing worth mentioning is that our team already has a unity rating of 83. One of my highest ever this early in the year. These guys have grown together.

14:26 - Vega picks up his 2nd foul - a cheap one. Abdur-Rahim into the game. We lead 15-9.

11:59 - We lead 19-14. I bring in Badu and Moss and turn up the pressure.

Badu with a 3. Badu with a steal and breakaway.. He is fouled. He misses both FT's, but Abdur-Rahim with the offensive board.

Badu with a steal and a pull-up 3.

9:21 - Kabba with a steal, finds Moss for an easy dunk. We lead 29-14.

So much length and quickness. Our defense is swarming and playing switch-up defense very well.

5:59 - We bring back Dawson, Farrell and Vega. We go with Annen and Abdur-Rahim as well. We are up 35-19.

4:54 - Annen hurts his ankle on a dunk attempt in which he was fouled. We bring in Hehn.

:44 - I have to laugh as Vega is left open so he takes a 3 and makes it. We lead 49-25.

Halftime: We lead 49-28.

Farrell is the player of the half with 18 points, 2 assists, and 2 steals.

Vega with 8 points. Kabba with 5 points.

19:20 - Vega picks up his 3rd foul. I'm leaving him in for now.

15:11 - We lead 61-31. Great defense right now.

15:02 - Vega picks up his 4th foul. I bring in Abdur-Rahim.

8:45 - I empty our bench with a 75-40 lead. We bring in Badu, Moss, Hehn, Fuller, and Wolfe.

We win the game 106-56 as I called off the full court trap, but never told the guys they had to milk the clock.

Farrell was the player of the game with 28 points, 5 assists, 3 boards, 2 steals, and a block. He shot 7 of 18, 4 of 11, and 10 of 12.

Dawson with 3 points, 6 assists, and 1 steal.

Kabba with 15 points, 5 boards, 1 assist, and 4 steals. He shot 6 of 8.

Stevens with 6 points, 5 boards, 4 assists, and 2 blocks.

Vega with 10 points, 6 boards, and a block in only 16 minutes.

Badu led the bench with 23 points, 3 assists, 4 steals, and 2 turnovers. His steals were mostly straight up as well with only 1 come from the trap. He shot 9 of 10, 3 of 4, and 2 of 4. He did all of that in only 16 minutes.

Abdur-Rahim with 5 points, 5 boards, and a block in 21 minutes.

Fuller with 2 points and 3 boards in 9 minutes.

Kody Hehn with 6 points, 5 boards, and 2 steals in 14 minutes.

Wolfe with 0 points, 1 board, and 1 assist in 9 minutes.

Moss with 8 points, 6 assists, 4 boards, 1 steal, and 1 block in 15 minutes. He shot 1 of 3, 0 of 1, and 6 of 6.

Time to see who is signing early..

And it happens. UCLA gets J.W. Reese. The 6th player in the nation and #1 SG in the nation, and #1 player in California chooses UCLA. They must have written a big check.

The 6'5 guard averaged 16.5 ppg, 5.0 rpg, and 4.4 apg in the ABL. The only plus is that he is a bit of a ball hog and only shot 29% from the arc. Still, I'm not looking forward to playing against him down the road.

We switched to Graham too late. He decided to go out of state and chose BYU. Oh well, SG isn't really a need right now anyway.

As expected, Rylan Prillman signs with USC right away. A closer look at him. He's 6'9 228 and is rated 77th overall and 4th among C's. He's a 4 star player and was the #1 C in California, 4th overall. Our staff grades him as follows: Shooting B-, Skills B-, Defense B+, Athleticism B-, Rebounding A, IQ A, Potential A, and Size A-. He averaged 12.6 ppg, 9.3 rpg, and 2.9 bpg in the ABL while shooting 48% from the field and 40% from the arc. Despite our staff believing his shooting as a whole is weak, we think he is a reasonably good 3 point shooter. His other strength is he shows great hustle.

Great news. Stivers didn't sign with us, but he seems on the cusp of doing so. If he signs, he'll be the highest ranked player I've ever signed (in this version of the game.) I just hope he doesn't have a last second change of heart for Texas A&M. Stivers is rated as follows by our staff: Shooting A, Skills A+, Defense B+, Athleticism A-, Rebounding B-, IQ A, Potential A, and Size C+.

We also have a 6'5 PG from San Bernadino who is a 4 star player who wants to sign with us. I don't want to scare away Stivers and I don't need 2 PG's unless Badu goes pro early. I hold off on offering Geoffrey Russell.

Our next game is at NC State. They are 4-2 with a roster rating of 90. Can we win on the road in our first real test?

Farrell with a huge game to lift us over NC State on the road! We win 69-65. Farrell with 19 points, 11 boards, 6 assists, and 1 steal. He shot 5 of 15.

Dawson fouled out in 20 minutes. He finished with 3 points and 2 assists. Kabba with 12 points, 8 boards, 2 assists, and 2 blocks. He shot 5 of 9.

Stevens with 5 points, 6 boards, and 3 blocks. Vega with 13 points, 8 boards, and 2 blocks.

Abdur-Rahim with 4 points, 4 boards, and 1 assist in 18 minutes. Annen with 6 points, 2 boards, and 1 assist in 17 minutes.

Badu with 2 points, 2 boards, and 2 assists in 13 minutes.

SOB! Stivers switches to Texas A&M at the last minute. That hurts.

Meanwhile, Geoffrey Russell decides that he doesn't want to wait any longer for a USC offer. He signs with BYU. Ouch.

I think the bug with scoring is when you start to sim a game and then cancel out, so I sim the game on Monday after signing day. We are playing Georgia who are 4-2 with a 84 rating.

We beat them 83-63 to remain perfect. We are now 5-0.

Dawson with his best game of the season as he finished with 15 points, 10 assists, and 3 steals in 28 minutes.

Farrell with 12 points, 4 boards, 4 assists, and 1 steal. He shot 4 of 8, 4 of 5, and 0 of 1.

Kabba with an 0 for 8 shooting night. He finished with 0 points, 8 boards, and 2 blocks.

Stevens with 9 points, 6 boards, 3 assists, and 1 block.

Vega with 19 points, 5 boards, 3 assists, and a block.

Abdur-Rahim with 11 points, 3 boards, and 1 assist. Badu with 10 points, 4 boards, and 3 assists in just 14 minutes. Fuller with 6 points and 2 boards in 12 minutes.

Now, I need to re-group and see if there are any recruiting targets worth my 2 scholarships..

Looking at all of the 5 stars, they've all signed early and Texas A&M got 3 of them. Why are they getting so many great players from across the country? They got Stivers from Colorado, Cameron Sutton a 5 star PF (who is short) from Fort Worth, TX, and and a 5'10 PG from San Antonio, TX who is ranked 5th in the nation overall.

I don't see any great targets out there, but I'll scout a bunch of 3 and 4 star players over the next few weeks to see if any look like they might fit my system.

Meanwhile, we have our next game at Marquette. They are 4-1 with a roster rating of 85.

Their best player is SR SG Deshaun Watson who is 6'3 216 and is rated 80 overall. He's a quick slashing guard who is averaging 14.6 ppg and 4.2 apg.

SR C Leighton Modica is 6'11 240 and is rated 78 overall. He's averaging 16.6 ppg and 2.4 bpg.

SR SG Whitney Avery is 6'2 233 and is rated 75 overall. He's averaging 9.6 ppg.

SR SF Devin Norton is 6'9 213 and is rated 73 overall. He's averaging 8.3 ppg and 3.6 rpg.

JR PG Fredrick Burnstein is 6'2 179 and is rated 73 overall. He's averaging 12.4 ppg and 3.8 apg.

The bench is all in the low 70's with one player in the high 60's.

I'll play them later.

15:00 - We lead 12-8. Farrell with 8 points.

9:18 - They are shooting very well from the arc now. We are tied at 24. I bring in Moss, Annen, and Abdur-Rahim.

6:34 - Entire 2nd unit in the game now. We are tied at 32.

3:20 - Farrell and Kabba back into the game. We are up 40-38. Moss with a nice 6 minutes.

Halftime: A brilliant final 3 minutes. We lead 53-38.

Farrell is the player of the half with 10 points, 7 assists, 2 boards, and 2 steals. He's shooting 3 of 4.

18:54 - Farrell draws another double team.. he finds Stevens in stride for a huge monster dunk. Oh crud. Stevens lands very awkwardly after the dunk. He has to be helped off the court.

Fuller into the game.

15:02 - We lead 63-43. Farrell doing everything we need tonight.

8:55 - I go to my 2nd unit. We lead 72-49.

4:45 - Moss with 4 straight points on post up moves. Moss and Abdur-Rahim with a 2-on-1 fastbreak.. Moss with a nice lob and Abdur-Rahim finishes the alley-oop. Huge response from the crowd. We lead 85-58.

3:45 - They double Moss in the post.. he makes a great behind the back pass to Wolfe for the dunk.

We win the game 100-60.

Farrell is the player of the game with 18 points, 10 assists, 2 boards, 2 steals, and a block. He shot 5 of 9, 2 of 3, and 6 of 7. Their SG had 19 points against him but on 6 of 15 shooting.

Dawson with 3 points, 3 assists, and 1 steal. However, his assists numbers are down in part because we are letting other people initiate the offense more now.

Kabba with 12 points, 2 boards, 1 assist, and 1 steal. He shot 5 of 8.

Stevens with 9 points, 7 boards, and 1 assist. He shot 3 of 6.

Vega with 7 points, 7 boards, 2 assists, and 3 blocks. He shot 3 of 9.

Annen with 14 points, 2 boards, 1 steal, and 1 block. He shot 5 of 7.

Badu with 10 points, 3 boards, 3 assists, and 2 turnovers in 15 minutes.

Moss with 11 points, 6 assists, 2 boards, 2 steals, and 1 block in 15 minutes. He shot 3 of 5, 0 of 1, and 5 of 6. He missed both shots that he took out of the paint.

Abdur-Rahim with 7 points, 7 boards, and 1 steal in 18 minutes. Wolfe with 5 points, 3 boards, 1 assist, and 1 steal in 9 minutes.

Fuller with 4 points, 7 boards, and a block in 17 minutes.

This team is so much fun to play with.

Stevens suffered a sprained ACL. He'll be resting for the next week or two, although he could play in a pinch, but I see no reason to push it at this point.

We are now 6-0. Our next game is against Idaho. They are 6-2 with a roster rating of 75.

Their starting 5:

SR SG Drake Esparza is 6'2 205 and is rated 73 overall. He is a nice outside shooter. He's averaging 8.6 ppg.

SR SF Ontario Lindeman is 6'6 213 and is rated 72 overall. He's a decent defender and has some dribbling ability. He's averaging 7.6 ppg and 4.5 rpg.

SO PF Jean Rios is 6'7 225 and is rated 71 overall. He's averaging 10 ppg and 4.6 rpg.

SO C Renato Schafer is 6'11 250 and is rated 68 overall. He's averaging 8.1 ppg and 5.6 rpg.

JR PG Shema Kirkland is 6'2 196 and is rated 66 overall. He's averaging 7.1 ppg and 3.3 apg.

Their entire bench is rated in the mid 50's.

I'll play them later.

14:41 - Slow start for our offense. Kabba picks up his 2nd foul. We are tied at 5. Annen into the game.

12:08 - We lead 11-7. Abdur-Rahim in for Vega. Farrell has 6 points and Dawson has 3 assists.

8:00 - Annen with a trio of treys. We lead 17-11. I bring in Badu, Moss, and Hehn at PF.

1:40 - Kilgore sees his first game action as Annen is tired. We lead 26-20. This team has done a good job of slowing down our offense. Vega back into the game as well.

Halftime: We lead 31-20. Brilliant defense from our guys.

We've held them to 33% shooting.

Annen is the player of the half with 11 points and 1 board. He has shot 3 of 4, 3 of 4, and 2 of 2.

Dawson with 4 assists. Farrell with 6 points. Hehn with 6 points, playing for 8 minutes at PF where his speed just overwhelmed his opponent.

We are going inside to Vega more this half.

14:45 - We lead 38-33. Dawson and Vega doing the most of our scoring this half so far.

11:52 - We lead 48-38. Kabba starting to pick up his game, but he is getting tired. Vega will take a seat to Abdur-Rahim.

8:20 - We lead 57-44. I bring in Badu, Moss, Annen, Hehn, and keep in Abdur-Rahim.

Moss with back to back spectacular plays. First a very flashy dunk on a great feed by Badu on the backdoor cut. Then, a block at the other end where he flew out of nowhere to get his hands on it. That led to a fastbreak 3 by Annen.

The 2nd unit plays so well, they finish it out.

We win the game 76-56.

Annen is the player of the game with 20 points, 2 boards, 2 assists, 1 steal, and 1 block. He shot 6 of 10, 6 of 8, and 2 of 2.

Dawson with 2 points and 11 assists.

Farrell with 15 points, 1 board, and 1 assist. He shot 5 of 9, 4 of 5, 1 of 1.

Kabba with 6 points, 1 assist, and 1 steal.

Fuller with 0 points and 5 boards.

Vega with 11 points, 6 boards, and a block. He shot 5 of 10.

Badu with 6 points, 6 assists, and 2 steals in 16 minutes.

Hehn with 6 points, 2 boards, and 2 steals in 16 minutes.

Moss with 6 points, 2 boards, 2 assists, 1 steal, and 1 block in 16 minutes.

Abdur-Rahim with 4 points, 7 boards, 1 assist, and 1 block in 23 minutes.

I somehow completely forgot about getting Wolfe into the game as the primary back-up PF. Oops.

Our next game is at 1-7 Air Force. They are rated 80 overall.

We won the game easily but Vega suffered a broken bone in his hand. He'll be out 4-5 weeks. We get the win 92-68.

Farrell with 24 points, 3 boards, 2 assists, and 2 steals. He shot 9 of 12, 4 of 4, and 2 of 2.

Dawson with 9 points, 8 boards, 9 assists, and 3 steals. He shot 3 of 7.

Kabba with 8 points, 4 boards, and 2 steals.

Abdur-Rahim stepped up with the big minutes - he finished with 20 points, 6 boards, and 2 blocks. He shot 7 of 12 and 6 of 7 from the line. His outside shooting ability is better than Vega and he'll give us a new dimension. Question is who will be the backup C? I'm considering giving Hehn a shot at it.

Kabba with 8 points and 5 boards.

Fuller with 3 points, 5 boards, and 2 blocks.

Annen with 6 points and 5 boards. He shot 2 of 8.

Badu with 11 points, 3 boards, 2 assists, and 2 steals in 18 minutes. He's growing at a rapid rate.

Hehn with 4 points, 2 boards, and 1 assist in 14 minutes.

Moss had a 0 stat line night in 6 minutes.

Our next game is hosting 5-4 Wyoming. They have a team rating of 79.

They are led by SO SF Julian Cleveland who is 6'7 212 and is rated 77 overall. He's averaging 7 ppg, 5.5 rpg, and 1.2 spg.

JR PF Samba Francis is 6'8 246 and is rated 73 overall. He's averaging 14.3 ppg and 6.3 rpg.

JR PF/C Jud Mills is 6'10 215 and is rated 73 overall. He's averaging 14.1 ppg and 6.8 rpg.

JR PG Al Waters is 6'1 192 and is rated 71 overall. He's averaging 5.6 ppg and 5.2 apg.

JR SG Bronski Wysocki is 6'4 210 and is rated 60 overall. He's averaging 2.1 ppg.

FR SF Markus Joiner leads the bench. He is 6'5 218 and is rated 73 overall. He's starting at SG and is averaging 6.8 ppg and 3.8 rpg.

The rest of the bench is rated in the high 50's to low 60's.

I'll play them tomorrow or Friday.

15:00 - Offense is flowing nicely with Abdur-Rahim. The defense isn't as tough as I'd like. We are up 11-8.

12:50 - They go on a 6-0 run that Abdur-Rahim ends with a strong move down low that draws a foul. He makes 1 of 2 FT's.

12:33 - Dawson picks up his 2nd foul. We bring in Badu. I also bring in Hehn at C. We are down 14-12.

8:32 - Moss, Annen, and Wolfe into the game. We'll turn up the full-court trap now. We are down 21-18.

5:29 - We lead 24-18 as they call time. Hehn is a huge speed mismatch in our favor at C, although he is giving up some offensive rebounds to them.

Annen with a pair of 3's and a traditional 3 point play as he is fouled on a pull-up jumper. We lead 33-21.

4:01 - Abdur-Rahim back into the game.

3:44 - Abdur-Rahim picks up his 2nd foul. Hehn back into the game.

Waters gets to the line to end our run.

Halftime: We lead 36-27.

Annen is the player of the half with 15 points, 1 board, and 1 assist. He shot 6 of 10, 2 of 4, and 1 of 1.

Farrell with 7 points. Hehn with 6 points and 3 boards.

18:02 - Dawson picks up his 3rd foul. Badu back into the game. We lead 38-32.

17:20 - Stevens with his 3rd foul. Wolfe into the game. We are up 38-34.

15:10 - Kabba gets a 3rd foul on Mills. We lead 43-37.

14:24 - Kabba gets a 3rd on Cleveland who has been their main scorer. We lead 46-37.

9:35 - We are on a 6 minute, 16-0 run. They call time. We lead 55-37. Everyone playing well.

9:13 - Cleveland hits a 3 to end our run.

6:38 - Abdur-Rahim picks up his 4th foul. We lead 62-44. I bring in Dawson, Moss, Annen, Fuller, and Hehn.

Halftime: We win the game 83-55.

Annen is the player of the game with 20 points, 1 board, 1 assist, and 3 steals. He shot 7 of 14, 2 of 4, and 4 of 5.

Dawson with 4 points, 5 assists, 2 boards, 1 steal, and 3 turnovers.

Farrell with 12 points, 1 board, and 2 steals. He shot 4 of 11.

Kabba with 8 points, 3 boards, 2 assists, and 2 steals. He shot 1 of 6.

Stevens with 2 points, 3 boards, and 1 steal.

Abdur-Rahim with 11 points, 3 boards, 1 assist, and 1 steal. He shot 5 of 8.

Fuller with 2 points and 5 boards in just 7 minutes.

Badu with 2 points, 4 boards, 7 assists, and 5 steals in 23 minutes. He also had 2 turnovers.

Hehn with 7 points and 7 boards. He shot 3 of 4.

Wolfe with 5 points, 4 boards, a steal, and a block.

Moss with another great game - 10 points, 4 boards, 4 assists, 1 steal, and 1 block in 16 minutes. He shot 4 of 4, 0 of 0, and 2 of 3. All of his baskets were either dunks or short hook shots.

Recruiting newss: I wouldn't normally look outside our borders, but this is word of a phenom in Mexico City named Renaldo Rodriguez. I'm flying down today to watch a game of his in person and talk to him. Other schools that he is interested in include Miami and Texas.

After seeing Rodriguez in person, I believe he is overhyped. He has great potential but he is too raw to be useful to our program despite being ranked as the 28th recruit in this year's class. I'm going to keep looking for worthier recruits.

Dec 29, 2036 -

Our next game is at UTEP. They are 3-5 with a roster rating of 78.

NO!! Farrell breaks his wrist. He is out 5-6 weeks. Injuries is the only thing that I thought could lead this team to lose and now 2 of our starters are out.

We win the game anyway 79-56. Farrell only played 6 minutes and finished with 4 points. Annen led the team with 16 points, 2 boards, and 1 assist.

Dawson with 10 points and 7 asssists. Kabba with 8 points. Stevens with 8. Abdur-Rahim with 13 points, 10 boards, and 3 blocks.

Hehn led the bench with 7 points and 2 boards. Badu with 5 points, 4 assists, and 2 boards in 16 minutes. Fuller with 6 points and 6 boards in 23 minutes.

We are just about to enter Pac-10 play now as well. We are going to try Annen starting at SG with Kilgore playing minutes at backup SF. With these injuries, English gets bumped up to the active 12 man squad and will get a few minutes at least at center, particularly when we need rebounding and defense.

Time for the Pac-10 Preview..

1. USC - #1 ranking in both polls. 10-0. Even with the 2 injuries, we have a team rating of 95. Could this be the team that I finally manage to guide to an undefeated season? I think so, if we can avoid more injuries..

2. Washington - Ranked 17th in the media poll, but I expect them to climb. 8-2 record. 93 overall rating. They have 3 SR's, a JR C, and SO PG and they are all true star players. Besides us, they have the most star power on their roster. SO PG Lynn Lenzly is improving rapidly and if he stays for his Jr year, he'll have a monster season.

3. Oregon - #9 ranking in the media poll. 10-0 record. Team rating of 91. JR SG Bob Swanson is the star of their team. They are veteran laden with 4 key juniors off the bench.

4. UCLA - #22 in the media poll. 10-2 record. Rated 91 overall. SO PF Taurance Diallo is their only weak link in the starting 5. SR SG Lowell Filipovic has become a complete player.

5. Cal - #16 in the media poll. 8-2 record. Rated 91 overall. Led by SR PF Brooks Harham. 4 SR's starting with SO C Jibran Delgado who is improving rapidly.

6. Stanford - 9-2 record. 90 rating. They have a hole at C, but are otherwise very good. SR SG Moshood Ballard may be the best player in the conference.

7. Arizona - 6-6 record. 89 rating. They are weak at PF. SR SG Harrison Wofford is their best player. SO PG Jeff Yates is going to be a good player down the road.

8. ASU - 9-3 record. 83 rating. Their phenom PG (should have gone pro last year) has a torn ACL (and played too many games to get a medical redshirt) and now they are going young with 4 sophomores and a freshman starting. SO SF Eulis Gomes looks like he is their best player now and will be next year as well unless they hit the recruiting jackpot. I expect them to fade quickly. Part of why they are going young is the SR SG Booker Stockman is also out with a torn ACL. He got a medical redshirt. Sessoms is also out for the next 3 weeks.

9. Oregon State - 5-5 record. 83 rating. SR PG Dawan Millage is a talented player, but he doesn't have much help around him.

10. WSU - 5-6, 79 rating. They are starting a SO PF Martin Hunt who is only rated 66 overall. That is due to injury, but still, this is the Pac-10. Pathetic. They do have 2 good players in SR SG Kashien Bey and JR C Donald Nwoke.

Team Leaders:

Scoring: USC, 90.4 ppg.
Rebounding: Cal, 33.3 rpg
Assists: USC, 20.8 apg.
SPG: USC 12.2
BPG: Washington, 6.7

Individual leaders:

Scoring: PF Parham, Cal 22.1
RPG: PF Parham, Cal 10.4
APG: PG Garrity, Cal 6.5
SPG: PG Luna, Oregon 2.1
BPG: PF Lloyd, Oregon 3.1

Best Overall Player: Kabba, USC
Best Freshman: Hehn, USC (didn't know redshirts counted in this category, I wonder if he can win Freshman of the year)
Shooters: Sessoms, ASU
Playmaker: Walton, ASU
Best Pro Prospect: SR Ballard, Stanford
Best Defender: Desmond Stevens, USC

We open up with a home game against Arizona. A more detailed look at their lineup is coming
