Brooklyn's Ramírez Top CL Batter in April
Wednesday, May 1st, 2176: Orlando Ramírez battered Continental League pitchers all April and wound up taking home the Batter of the Month Award.

"I've been around Front Office Offseason League long enough to know you really have to work hard day in and day out to be able to put up this kind of consistency," the 28-year-old Ramírez told reporters. "I put in a lot of work, even on the days I might not take the field, and it's always nice when everything comes together for me like it did this last month."

In 27 games, Ramírez hit .419 with 10 home runs, 30 RBIs and scored 27 runs.


Torrid April Gets Kokura RL #1 Batter Trophy
Wednesday, May 1st, 2176: Seasoned by several years of professional experience, 25-year-old Ryushi Kokura put together a solid offensive month for Toronto and was crowned April's top batter in the Republic League.

He batted .300 with 5 home runs, 21 RBIs and 18 runs scored.

Davis Acclaimed Top Pitcher in April
Wednesday, May 1st, 2176: Randy Davis is at the zenith of his career and today he was selected as the Continental League Pitcher of the Month for April.

He made 13 relief appearances for Napa Valley last month, throwing 14.2 innings and collecting 10 saves, a 1-1 record, 16 strikeouts and a 0.61 ERA.


Royals O'Rourke April's Top Hurler
Wednesday, May 1st, 2176: Randy O'Rourke's been around the league long enough to appreciate the honor he received today. After going 4-1 in April, the 30-year-old Montreal hurler has been named Republic League Pitcher of the Month.

He fanned 17 in 37.2 innings, logged an ERA of 1.19 and allowed opponents to hit .184 against him.

CL Selects Rookie Star of the Month
Wednesday, May 1st, 2176: Dave Shirley was toddling around on his tricycle when some of the guys he's playing against were in their prime, but the 25-year-old third baseman definitely knows how to get to first, second or beyond. Today he was chosen April's Continental League Rookie of the Month for his remarkable month of hitting.

In 26 games Shirley batted .259 for Halifax, slapping 28 hits in 108 at-bats with 4 home runs, drove in 13 runs and scored 13 times.


Republic League Names Rookie of Month
Wednesday, May 1st, 2176: Youngster Jason Davis emerged as the latest Republic League Rookie of the Month today. The young man from Montreal deserved the honor, batting .195 with 6 home runs and 18 RBI. Is the month of April a harbinger of things to come or just a fluke? We'll find out someday, but for now, we'll just let Davis enjoy the limelight.

Bradley May's Best Bat Choice
Saturday, June 1st, 2176: Mark Bradley picked up the top batter prize in the Continental League for May.

The Cleveland first baseman hit .362 with 12 home runs, 31 RBIs and 25 runs scored. He also drew 8 walks to post an OBP of .403.

During the current season Bradley is batting at a .341 clip with 16 home runs and 45 RBIs. He has played in 54 games and scored 42 times.


Bernard Hetherington Winner in Republic League
Saturday, June 1st, 2176: Bernard Hetherington let his bat do the talking in May and the Republic League heard him loud and clear. He made plenty of noise as he put together a .458 batting average and was named the top hitter of the month.

Hetherington's month to remember saw him accumulate 49 hits, 2 home runs, 16 RBI, 27 runs, 19 walks and a .543 on-base percentage.

So far this season Hetherington is hitting .385 with 3 home runs.

CL Premier Pitcher is Noblesville's Earle
Saturday, June 1st, 2176: Jerry Earle of Noblesville had a tremendous May with a 4-2 mark and was chosen the Pitcher of the Month in the Continental League.

Earle restricted opposing hitters to 25 base hits and a .167 batting average. He rang up 20 strikeouts in 41.2 innings of work, surrendered 8 walks, and crafted a 0.86 ERA.

Checking out his stats for the season, Earle has registered 5 wins and 2 losses in 10 starts, 2.04 ERA and struck out 36 batters in 66.1 innings.


Deushi Nets RL #1 Pitcher Award
Saturday, June 1st, 2176: Veteran Robun Deushi put together quite a successful stretch in May for the Omaha Bees, earning himself the Republic League Pitcher of the Month award.

Deushi racked up a 5-1 record in 6 starts, posting a 1.68 ERA over 48.1 innings and striking out 27.

This year Deushi has posted a record of 7 wins and 2 losses with a 2.26 ERA. He has appeared in 11 games and struck out 47 in 83.2 innings.

CL Picks Rookie of the Month
Saturday, June 1st, 2176: Dave Shirley is still a bit shy, but then, who could blame the newest Continental League Rookie of the Month honoree? He hasn't been around the league long enough to fully know the ropes yet, despite the fact that he's putting up veteran-like numbers.

In May the Halifax hitter tagged opposing pitching for a .239 average with 26 hits, 4 home runs and 14 RBIs.

This year Shirley has batted at a .249 pace with 54 hits, 8 home runs, 27 RBIs and scored 27 times.


RL Chooses Rookie of the Month
Saturday, June 1st, 2176: Bradley Holland's eyes seem to light up whenever he sees the baseball. The young Toronto third baseman has been hitting everything in sight for the better part of a month.

In May he was voted the Rookie of the Month Award.

During the month he hit .224 with 5 doubles, no triples and 6 home runs. Holland also scored 12 times and drove in 16 runs.

Currently Holland is batting .203 with 6 home runs and 25 RBIs.

Windus Captures CL Batter of Month Award
Monday, July 1st, 2176: Nobody was better with the bat in June!
Graham Windus caught everyone's attention with some hot hitting and today he came away with the Batter of the Month award.

Noblesville's left fielder put together a solid month with a .298 batting average, 10 home runs, 24 RBIs and 26 runs scored.

Windus is batting at a .284 pace this season, picking up 82 hits in 289 at-bats with 19 home runs, 64 RBIs and 53 runs scored.


Davis Snares RL Top Batter Award in June
Monday, July 1st, 2176: One of the more consistent batters in June, Montreal first baseman Jason Davis grabbed Republic League Batter of the Month honors by hitting .315 with 28 hits in 89 at-bats.

He racked up 8 home runs and 16 RBIs, scored 14 runs.

For the year Davis is batting .243 with 20 home runs, 46 RBIs and 41 runs scored.

Continental League Selects #1 Starter in June
Monday, July 1st, 2176: Roberto Garza nailed down June's Continental League Pitcher of the Month award today, adding pressure on Noblesville to get a deal done before the 27-year-old becomes a free agent.

Garza seems unfazed by the talk. "We get a deal done or we don't," he told reporters, "I'm not worrying about next year. Worrying about next year isn't what wins awards, you know?"

He fashioned a 5-0 record, reeled off 29 strikeouts, worked 42.1 innings and held batters to a .253 average for the month as he posted a 2.76 ERA.

So far this year Garza has 8 wins and 4 losses and a 3.60 ERA.


Reliever Hunt Top RL Pitcher in June
Monday, July 1st, 2176: Jason Hunt has been around the league long enough to know that relievers are often overlooked. That has never stopped him from doing what he does best -- and he did it extremely well in June and stole away with the Republic League Pitcher of the Month award.

The Royals bullpen ace collected 9 saves and 7 strikeouts in 13.2 innings, holding the opposition to a .119 average and posting a 0.00 ERA and a 2-0 record.

Season-to-date, Hunt has rung up 21 saves in 33 relief appearances. He has 26 strikeouts and 10 walks in 36.1 innings while registering a 3.22 ERA and a 3-3 won-lost record.

Shirley in a Class by Himself
Monday, July 1st, 2176: A veritable toddler to the Continental League, Dave Shirley just sewed up the Rookie of the Month trophy for June.

Over the past month the 25-year-old third baseman for Halifax hit .261 with 30 hits, 4 home runs and 5 runs batted in. He also logged 5 walks and compiled a .303 on-base percentage.

This year Shirley has hit at a .253 clip with 84 hits, 12 home runs, 32 RBIs and 40 runs scored.


June Sensation RL's Best Rookie
Monday, July 1st, 2176: Jason Davis earned June's Rookie of the Month honors in the Republic League for last month's performance. The boyish Montreal first baseman might be wet behind the ears, but he's proving that he has what it takes to play at this level.

Davis hit .315 with 8 home runs, 16 RBIs and 14 runs scored this past month on his way to winning the award.

Davis is currently hitting at a .243 pace with 20 home runs and 46 RBIs.

Romero Wins CL's Best Bat Award
Thursday, August 1st, 2176: July's Batter of the Month Award has been given out by the Continental League. This month's trophy was presented to the Noblesville left fielder, Robinson Romero.

He starred by hitting .380 with a .454 on-base percentage, totaled 35 hits in 92 at-bats, 6 home runs, 16 RBIs and scored 19 runs.

So far this season Romero has put up a .312 batting average with 132 hits, 19 home runs and 46 RBIs.


Hernández Crowned Batter of the Month in July
Thursday, August 1st, 2176: Hot-hitting first baseman Juan Hernández of the Rancheros really pounded Republic League pitchers in July, winning the Batter of the Month award.

He hit .455 with 4 home runs, 15 RBIs, 10 runs scored and 9 walks to finish with a .530 on-base percentage.

In his stats this season, Hernández has posted a batting average of .333 with 95 hits in 285 at-bats, 17 home runs and 69 RBIs. He has also scored 46 runs, walked 24 times and compiled a .397 OBP.

Cleveland Starter Named CL's Premier Pitcher
Thursday, August 1st, 2176: Despite the number of years he's been in the league, Ramón Tapia still gets excited when he puts together a quality stretch like he had in July. The 33-year-old starter for Cleveland was named Continental League Pitcher of the Month earlier today.

He collected 4 wins and 1 loss with 31 strikeouts in his 6 starts, putting up a fine 2.41 ERA in 37.1 innings of work.

This year Tapia has compiled a 13-4 mark with a 3.54 ERA.


Vachon Wins RL Top Pitcher Award
Thursday, August 1st, 2176: Raymond Vachon was the anchor in the Hartford bullpen last month and snatched up the Republic League Pitcher of the Month honors for July. The 27-year-old is in the prime of his career and pitching like he intends to stay around baseball for quite some time to come.

He threw 12.1 innings over 11 relief appearances and collected a 2-0 record with 10 strikeouts and 8 saves while etching his 0.00 ERA.

To date Vachon has 26 saves with a 4-3 season record and a 2.72 ERA. He also has made 44 relief appearances, thrown 49.2 innings and struck out 42.

Rookie Third Baseman Honored by CL
Thursday, August 1st, 2176: The Continental League made the official announcement today. The Rookie of the Month trophy went to Dave Shirley of Halifax. He was singled out as the premier rookie in July.

Last month the 25-year-old Winter Wolves third baseman played in 21 games and hit .256 with 6 doubles, 2 triples and 4 home runs. Shirley also scored 17 times and drove in 11 runs.

This season Shirley is swinging the bat at a .254 rate with 107 hits in 422 at-bats. To date he has hit 16 home runs, scored 57 runs and driven in 43.


July's Top Rookie Named by RL
Thursday, August 1st, 2176: Chris Taylor was voted the Republic League Rookie of the Month award for his standout play in July.

The 22-year-old Omaha shortstop batted .357, hit no home runs and drove in 10 runs. He also tagged 25 hits, scored 9 runs and picked up 6 walks for a .410 on-base percentage.

This year Taylor is batting .261 with no home runs. He has scored 23 runs and driven in 22.

CL's Best Batter Selected
Sunday, September 1st, 2176: Napa Valley's Travis Lewis had a productive August and topped it off by winning the Batter of the Month citation from the Continental League.

The 26-year-old third baseman stood out at the plate with a .312 batting average, 8 home runs, 26 RBIs and 23 runs scored.

This year Lewis has socked 119 hits in 491 at-bats for a .242 average with 29 home runs. He is getting on base at a .324 pace and his totals also include 86 RBIs and 75 runs scored.


RL Announces Outstanding Batter Award
Sunday, September 1st, 2176: The vote is in and Bill Jarvis, the 26-year-old first baseman for Hammersmith, is the winner. Today he was honored with the Republic League Batter of the Month award.

In August, Jarvis wowed voters with a .351 average while posting up 8 home runs, 32 RBIs, 20 runs scored and a .388 on-base percentage.

This season in 127 games, Jarvis has hit at a .326 clip with 172 hits, 26 home runs, 108 RBIs and 69 runs scored.

Morín Wins CL Top Pitcher Award
Sunday, September 1st, 2176: The Continental League hitters didn't have a chance in August when the Brooklyn Brownstones manager wrote "Morín" on the lineup card. Outing after outing, Fernando Morín held teams in check and usually got a win.

He excelled with a 5-1 mark and 1.42 ERA in 6 starts. The talented Brownstones star pitched 44.1 innings, fanned 28 and held opposing teams to a .200 average.

For his superb mound work Morín was named the CL Pitcher of the Month by the baseball writers.

This season Morín has a 13-8 record with a 3.17 ERA in 26 starts.


Hurtado Nets RL #1 Pitcher Award
Sunday, September 1st, 2176: One of the Republic League's hottest pitchers last month did his work late. Toronto reliever Gabriel Hurtado held opponents to a .231 average and was named the Republic League Pitcher of the Month today.

Hurtado rolled out 9 saves in 9 save opportunities and a 2-1 mark with 10 strikeouts in 14 innings. For the month he had a 0.64 ERA.

To this point in the season, Hurtado has rung up 26 saves in 44 relief appearances. He has also crafted a 1.09 ERA, 3 wins and 2 losses and 46 strikeouts in 49.1 innings.

Shirley Snags Rookie of Month Trophy
Sunday, September 1st, 2176: Halifax's Dave Shirley created quite a buzz around town today when he was presented August's Continental League Rookie of the Month trophy.

The standout rookie third baseman took the award by connecting for 24 hits in 112 at-bats for a .214 batting average. During the month he collected 3 home runs, drove in 10 runs and scored 14 times.

Currently Shirley is batting .245 with 19 home runs, 53 RBIs and 71 runs scored.


Butler Selected RL's #1 Newcomer
Sunday, September 1st, 2176: Byron Butler is a latecomer to this league. The 31-year-old Hartford catcher is putting up quality numbers, even though he's not your traditional rookie. On the heels of posting a .373 average, the Republic League named him August's Rookie of the Month.

He hit 1 home run last month, knocking in 8 runs and scoring 5 runs. He banged out 25 hits and drew 4 walks to post a .408 OBP.

This year Butler is batting .268 with 10 home runs and 41 RBIs.

Guthrie Wins Best Bat Trophy in September
Tuesday, October 1st, 2176: Prospective free agents love to have hot streaks and William Guthrie is no exception. The Halifax first baseman capped off a fine month by hauling in Batter of the Month honors in the Continental League.

In September Guthrie hit .361 with 9 home runs, 20 RBIs and 17 runs scored.

Guthrie is hitting .280 so far this season with 87 RBIs and 96 runs scored. He has 166 hits including 31 home runs, 68 walks and .364 OBP.


Héctor Ramírez is September's #1 Hitter in RL
Tuesday, October 1st, 2176: Héctor Ramírez put his mark on the Republic League this September by putting together some award-winning numbers. Hartford's shortstop took home the Batter of the Month award on the strength of his .323 batting average.

He tacked up 30 hits, 11 home runs, 22 RBIs and 25 runs scored.

Ramírez is presently hitting at a .248 pace with 26 home runs, 83 RBIs and has scored 103 times.

Millers Guerra Chosen September's Best in CL
Tuesday, October 1st, 2176: Jesús Guerra hated to see September turn to October.
And who could blame him?
The 29-year-old hurler piled up 5 wins and no losses for the Millers last month and won the Continental League Pitcher of the Month award for his efforts.

Guerra stymied opposing batters on 25 base hits and a .205 batting average. He rang up 29 strikeouts in 35 innings of work, surrendered 10 walks and fashioned a sparkling 2.31 ERA.

In 30 starts this season, Guerra has recorded 13 wins and absorbed 7 losses. He has pitched 192.1 innings, allowed 173 hits, struck out 147 and has a 3.37 ERA.


Martínez Cops #1 Pitcher Award in September
Tuesday, October 1st, 2176: Whether Vicente Martínez stays in Hartford beyond this season remains to be seen, but while he's here he's making the most of it. In September the 33-year-old certainly pulled out all the stops by winning the Republic League Pitcher of the Month award.

He put up some fancy numbers with a 4-0 record and and an ERA of 3.22. In 36.1 innings he struck out 22, surrendered 37 hits, 8 walks and proved to be a solid performer in 5 starts last month.

On his stats sheet this season Martínez shows a 11-11 record, 30 starts, 185.1 innings, 131 strikeouts and a 5.39 ERA.

Bueno Voted September's Rookie Trophy
Tuesday, October 1st, 2176: The top-rated Continental League rookie in September was Cleveland's catcher Gabriel Bueno.

Last month he played in 24 games and hit .432 with 9 doubles, no triples, and no home runs. Bueno also scored 12 times and drove in 11 runs.

In the current season, Bueno has put up a .315 batting average with 166 hits, no home runs, 44 runs batted in and scored 76 runs.


Toronto Third Baseman September's Best Rookie
Tuesday, October 1st, 2176: Bradley Holland had a standout September and today received the Republic League Rookie of the Month trophy.

Last month the 24-year-old Toronto third baseman played in 23 games and hit .333 with 10 doubles, no triples and 5 home runs. Holland also scored 13 times and drove in 21 runs.
