In case you missed my post on the last page, Humble Bundle has it as one of their "free" games for their monthly subscription package. $12/month and I guess you can cancel after signing up and you get your game.

Seems like every unit and race has multiple abiliites, and then your choice of 6(?) secret abilities that really affect how you play the game. On a serious note, I'm on a periodic Paradox detox at the moment, but I respect the transparence of Quill. His style isn't for everyone but he's always up front when he does sponsored content.

Agreed.

I don't always watch but I don't ever really feel like I'm misled about what's what (or why he's playing certain things). One of my most-watched over the past several years now.

(For pure enjoyment thought, I'm a Rycon guy. To the extent that I intentionally stay 6-8 weeks behind on his content so that I always have an episode available when I want one)

Yeah I like Quill the best when he's trying a game for the first time because he really tries to explain what he's doing with almost every action. That can be a bit annoying when he then decides to do something else. He pays attention to his twitch chatters and answers many questions along the way. His voice can get a bit whiny at times. He recently did a few tutorials for EVE Online for which I was grateful because I was pretty lost when I tried it.

He quickly loses me when he plays something like Stellaris, which he's played a lot. He just knows what to do in most cases, and doesn't bother to explain as much.

I don't think I've looked at a Rycon video-I will have to check him out, thanks for the tip Jon.

I can't watch Quill.. nothing against him as he is through but I just can't listen to him for more than a few minutes.

For those unfamiliar, he's a heavy role-play guy. But he's damned good / entertaining at it. He takes it quite seriously (as opposed to some who RP for humor) and has grown by leaps & bounds over the years. A lot (most?) of his stuff is played as permadeath, which makes for serious tension in things like F4: Frost.

In addition to possibly shorter term permadeath plays he also does very involved role-plays with extensive backstory characters that he plays to type very strictly.

His New Zealand accent has an element of Bob Ross to the ear but varies his voice into character accents & is excitable enough (think "oh %#$ I nearly died there) that he's not monotone or anything.

I'm about 5 hours into AOW: Planetfall and I've finally met my perfect 4x game. Building up my base and adding sectors for additional benefits, upgrading my units and leaders and xcom like combat, yes please.

Nice, I've heard pretty solid reviews. The strategy side (base building, etc) is supposed to be pretty thin, but the tactical side is supposed to be crazy good.

Tactical side is fantastic. Base building is decent with buildings as you get more tech. I love how combat and social tech are two separate branches that you research together.

Also, you get mods from techs and rewards for finishing quests which you can add to your units and leaders.

Plus, the game runs really well on my Nvidia 970 ti - which is a fairly old video card.

On Steam the Endless Space 1 collection is $10, but ES2 is $90 with the base game at 40 bucks I think. Maybe somewhere else it's 10.

Check Fanatical-its on sale for 77% off for me-there's a digital deluxe version for about $11.50, There's also the original (I assume) also on sale for over $9. Do a search for Endless Space 2 to see the different versions
