Longest FOF Holdout Ever

In my current career, I left my previous team in 2023 to take over a moribund franchise and rebuild them to greatness, the Colorado Springs 49ers. As I'm looking over the roster of my new team, and I see a rookie negotiation symbol. I figure that it's a holdout from last year, so I decide to take a look at signing the guy before I lose him back to the draft.

Original player report

The first thing that strikes me is that he was the League's Strongest Man in 2011, 2018, 2019. Odd. Further inspection reveals that he was born in 1983 and was a first round draft pick in 2006 -- 17 years ago. I was/am perplexed. I thought rookies who didn't sign ended up back in the draft the following year, but this guy didn't for some reason. He just stayed on the team, and the 49ers never signed him.

On a lark and in need of a LT, I went ahead and signed him to a contract -- he asked for a deal that would have been pretty normal for a first round draft pick in 2006, not in 2023. I figured it was a novel experiment at worst and at best maybe he would hang on for a few years. So I signed him up and his ratings held up pretty well.

Player report after training camp

He had a serviceable rookie season as my starting LT, 30 percent on key run blocks. Then he upped and retired at the end of the season. A 40-year-old rookie and that was it.

i'm certain this is an anomaly. I've never seen it before, and I know that during this career I patched. It was an old career with house rules that I started then left for a while before recently coming back to it. Just thought it was curious.

Go on Max, take the money and run.

The low intelligence might have something to do with it as well.

Great story. I love it that he retired after just one season, taking the bonus money.
