How do you know you killed him then? Have you not ever seen an action movie? That deer might be looking at your head through a scope on a high-powered rifle even as we speak.

Rather depressing to pack my kid off for a three day "class retreat" on a dreary rainy Wednesday morning.

I'm pretty big on the whole "parent first, friend second" outlook where kids are concerned (i.e. this isn't a "my child is my best friend" lament) ... but I generally enjoy his company.

Heh, I also appreciated his take on the absurdity of the trip itself "We're together about 8 hours a day, 180 days a year. If we're not 'bonded" by now, it's just not happening"

My daughter and I had practiced softball every day for about a month before Spring Break. My wife thought it was a good idea to send my daughter to my inlaws for the week of Spring Break. I told her I was cool with it but it was a week of practice we would lose.

I felt out of sorts the whole week. I didn't realize it until she was away that I was enjoying all of that time with her, helping her get better. The whole week just plain sucked.

Dear realtors/property management companies:

If you are advertising a place to rent online and you have 15,054 pictures of the outside of the place and 0 pictures of the inside of the place....you're doing it wrong.

1 or 2 pictures of the outside is more than enough, however, not showing ANY pictures of the inside of the place, makes zero sense. I'm not going to call you. I'm not going to email you. I'm not going to do your homework for you. Quit being a lazy ass and include pictures of (at least one each): the living room, dining room, kitchen, bathroom, bedroom/s. It ain't that hard.

Why hasn’t anyone invented Star Wars Lightsaber Wrapping paper? It would be a translucent plastic tube with translucent red/green (light blue/purple/whatever) paper for the top 3/4ths and then silver and black on the bottom. It could come with a cheap lightup in the middle of the tube, maybe. There's gotta be a good way to make this translucent and colored but not transparent so it can still be used as wrapping paper. Kindof like frosted windows or a cheap shower curtain. And, of course, you can fight just like you always do with wrapping paper tubes.

George Lucas, get it done. Oh, and JediKooter, if I see this in stores now, I only ask for a lifetime supply and a 1% cut of the sales (not profits- no studio "profits" baloney) because it would sell ridiculously at Christmas and I could retire on just 1% of the sales.

When we finally get a quiet weekend at some point in the fall after tournament season is over, the wife and I literally don't know what to do with ourselves. I feel like I need to fill the cooler with ice and drinks and a Frogg Togg just to watch a football game on the couch.

Was home yesterday with a fever. So I laid in bed and, among other things, streamed 6 episodes of Mad Men.

It made me REALLY appreciate my wife and kids.

I remember my only meeting with my advisor at my first college. He told me that even though i met all the pre-reqs for a class for my major he wouldnt let me take it since I was a freshman. He WOULD, however, let me place out of it and take the higher level class the following year even though I knew that would be a bad idea. My advisor at my second school was helpful enough though, helped me make sure i met all the requirements I needed to do the external program I wanted.

The two advisors I had were pretty good. However, there wasn't much for them to do. The engineering department was a big flowchart that you had to follow in the correct order. If you were in engineering and couldn't follow the flowchart... well, then maybe poker isn't for you

Yeah....Me too...

The other thing...they have a tech program...$300 a year towards any piece of technology as long as it fits what we do.

I am now an owner of a Samsung Galaxy 10.1....It should be here next week...Pretty stoked by it.

Well, the shit has hit the fan in my school district. Two days ago one of our elementary principals was escorted out of his school. Word had leaked that he had been secretly working on a plan to open a charter school within the district boundaries. It seems fairly certain that he had been using company resources and time to recruit certain teachers and certain parents to follow him. Several teachers in his building knew about this because they were asked. Others were completely blindsided.

Our district, like many, is in a precarious financial position. My school would be a prime candidate for the chopping block because it's the most secluded geographically and the oldest structurally. It would devastate the community it is in because it is the town's social epicenter. It's also a state rated A school..so closing it would cut down one of the county's best academic schools.

Per se, I have nothing against charter schools....if they can't put the pressure on failing schools, then that's great. But that's not the case here. This says nothing of the underhanded tactics used by the principal and the strong indication that this was pushed personally by the Indiana DOE Superintendent, who worked here years ago and seems to have a beef against the county (my principal put it best when he said that the superintendent is just trying to kill all the witnesses that remember him as a subpar administrator)

To top it off, the last two days have exposed holes in the charter school proposal. They claim they'll offer an international baccalaureate, but lack many of the required courses and aren't listed with the organization. They have claimed to have the backing of several local boards, none of which ever voted on it and apparently had single members attempt to speak on the behalf of this board. They are also claiming their openness to all students, but they don't offer transportation and have parental requirements, both of which would keep most of our lower income, rural based families away.

It's going to be an incredibly long spring.

Having a serious discussion about porn with your wife is, most likely, not a good idea. Just trust me on this one.

Yep. Not a subject I will even remotely touch with mine.

Even jokingly; my mom was over not long ago and mentioned the Playboy collection I had in my younger days (sizable - mags dating back into the 60s - which unless someone picked it up, sadly wound up in a landfill). She I think asked for confirmation that I in fact had given them all up, and I joked "that's what the internet is for." That got a "oh, you'd better not be" from my wife, which may have been partially for show for my mom but I suspect also had serious undertones.

My wife has always said she doesn't care if I look at porn. She has always said that it doesn't matter where I get my appetite as long as I come home to eat.

This topic has come up a couple of times with a couple that we have been friends with for over 15 years. The wife in the other couple has always said the same thing as my wife. Then, she found her husband looking at porn while on conference calls late at night for work and it turned into a big deal and she wanted to divorce him over it. So, in truth she wasn't fine with it.

My wife has done the same thing. I normally don't go to strip clubs just because I don't feel like I need to because I have my wife and out of respect for her anyway. The one time I went to one with a friend while traveling for work, she didn't like the idea. So, she not as open to the idea either, but she still claims she is to this day.
